Askuwheteau wandered the borders of the Ute pack's lands, sniffing here and investigating there. He usually did this several times a day anymore, with the intention of keeping interlopers out of his pack's home turf. He had in recent months been privy to two she-wolves violating the borders. And he wasn't particularly pleased with the seeming lack of respect for his pack's boundaries.
He had begun check the borders several times a day with the hope of intercepting any more wayward travelers and turning them back the way they came. So far he had been successful the past several days, but only insofar as he had not run into any intruders while on his walks.

Having taken to wandering, always wandering the edges of the pack's borders, looking for something only she could know, is Wachiwa; who today comes into line of sight of Asku, but has not noticed him, for the fact of being so distracted herself, with sniffing at the ground, and moving at a lazy pace.
Eventually, however, she does smell something on the wind, and lifting her head, she takes a deep, long breath, nostrils flaring, eyes closed, before she follows the smell .. and finds herself peering toward the wolf she'd known since their puppyhood. She smiles, and utters a bark in greeting; more of a 'wu--arp!' than a real dog's bark, honestly, before she trots forward, tail wagging, ears back, moving in to lick at his face if he'll allow.
"Asku, why are you so far away from the den today?" She asks, curiously.

It's not usually a stretch to imagine Hinto out on the fringes of the Ute territory. Usually he is out here with his mate, Lupin, where it's nice and quiet, private, and most of all, secluded. It's attractive to two wolves who, even after they found each other, found a certain value in being apart from the group. Not to say they have no place in the pack, far from it. Hinto enjoys trying to help those he considers friends which, so far, encompasses all the Ute.
Hearing the sounds of talking not far away, the wolf male can't help but investigate. After all, youthful voices plus borders to territory equals potential disaster, and Hinto isn't exactly about to allow youthful indiscretions to result in trouble. However, he doesn't reveal himself just yet.

Askuwheteau does indeed allow his oldest and most dear friend to lick his face, he returns the licks as well in a familiar greeting before answering her question, "I'm watching the borders, we've had far too many strangers invade our lands lately and I mean to do something about it. I'm making sure if any wandering rogues breach our borders that I am here to turn them back around and send them off properly. You realize we've had no less then three she-wolves step over our borders in the past moon alone? It's ridiculous. But what are you out here doing Wachiwa? Sniffing up some adventure?" He smiles and noses at her neckfur a bit, snuffling her scent just to see where she's been.
He does not yet realize Hinto is nearby listening and watching them.

As with Askuweteau, Wachiwa is oblivious of the presence of the wolf in the grass listening. She smiles amicably to her best friend, and leans in against him for a moment, setting her head against his shoulder. She smells like the clover from the sunny, yet dying lawn, and like the mud one finds at the side of the river.
"Three she-wolves?" Wachiwa asks, tilting her head thoughtfully. "Maybe they're looking for young boys to play with. You and Mori.." She teases softly, "Or maybe they're looking to distracted your father away from your beautiful mother; oh how could they ever!" She laughs amused, then hmms. "They could also be people looking for a new home. You shouldn't be so quick to get upset."
She paws at his shoulder lightly, and then gives him a playful tug of his ear. "So serious all the time, Asku, you need to play more." She says, with a grin, before she drops back into play invitation, paws extended, butt thrust in the air, and tail wagging back and fourth. "C'mon, we can leave serious business behind just once, can't we? I say we play. Let's play tag. And You're it!" She leaps up and paws at his shoulder with a grin, before turning away and trotting a bit, to give him incentive to chase.

Asku's serious expression softens a bit and he actually teases back at his bestfriend, "If that is the case they'll have to get your permission before I'll play with them. Chewy is the only pretty she-wolf I'll play with." He nips at her cheekruff and then laughs softly, "My father would not be hard to steal away, he already keeps two mates. I'm not sure why mom puts up with it." When tagged he actually bounds after her with a gentle snapping of his jaws at her tail, "Then you better run faster then that Chewy! Or else I'll be the one chewing on you!" He was only joking though. It was rare for Asku to actually let go and play, he so often shouldered burdens far more then a wolf his age should. At his age he shouldn't be thinking about driving out intruders or Making half disparaging comments about his parent's mate sharing tendancies. He should be doing this, chasing after young females himself.

A laugh comes from the she-wolf as she skirts ahead of the nipping jaws ever so slightly, and wags her tail in attempt to slap him in the face playfully. Then she pounces a few feet ahead, and dips into a playful bow, replying to him.
"You parents are just... weird, I dunno," Wachiwa admits, "I mean, it's obvious they love each other. Maybe they're so comfortable in that love that they don't mind sharing? I mean, your mom told Hinto she could like, have puppies for him and Luna. I think Hinto's gonna go with it! I hope it won't make you, your brother, or sisters feel weird." She smirks faintly, then wiggles her backside in the air with a grin.
"Besiiiiiides. I'm the chewer here not you!" She teases, with a grin, patting the ground wit her forepaws.

Askuwheteau smirks at Wachiwa's words then her tail does whap him in the face and he mock growls, "Oh...Careful now Chewy...you play like that and I might have to do something liiiike. Pin you until you beg me to let you go?" He grins and runs at her as she taunts him. Replying ti her comments about his parent's lightly, " Yes well it's too late for that. I already feel odd about it. and I don't approve of it. It's just out and out wrong." With each statement he hops left and right trying to get to one of the she-wolf's sides to flank her.
"I mean, how would you feel if I started having you and Snow follow me around and telling folks I had you and her as my mates? I'd wager it wouldn't feel really good now would it?" While Asku was talking too her he had not forgotten the game they were playing. He was using the conversation to try and distract her so that he might be able to get an easy tag.
Devilishly sneeky young male that he was.

Hinto still doesn't feel like revealing himself yet. He doesn't want to get in the way of their fun, knowing if he does appear they'll start behaving, well, as if a grown-up is around. He doesn't want that sort of thing to stop them from feeling like simply being themselves with each other. He slowly lies himself down. He still has to keep watch, though, since they're still quite young. He perks his ears to listen to what they say.
Hinto takes care to make changes in his position, trying not to be found, if not for one tiny problem in his attempts at stealth. Those sneaky, traitorous twigs and their snappings! He manages to step on one, snap it, freak out a bit, turn around, snap two more twigs, flail, and fall over, all in one fluid. graceful motion. It was all quite inspiring, actually. But that's what he gets for trying to sneak around under a tree. Not wanting to give himself away, Hinto tries, in a big of a rush, to run for another tree to hide behind it. Only time will tell if he succeeds.

"... I dunno how I would feel," Wachiwa admits, thoughtfully, "I mean, I.. Just don't, y'know? I mean, I thought you'd said you didn't want a mate." She says, giving him a puzzled look. She stops though, ear twitching, turning toward the direction of a snapping twig, her head going down. "Wait, shh, something's over there.. maybe it's food."

Askuwheteau shakes himself and snorts at her, "Yes I said that. I'm sorry I did though. I just got scared, butterflies in my stomach. It was something about telling my Mom. I do love you Chewy, I always will and if you can't forgive me for hurting you then I hope we will always be friends at least. I just...I got scared and I did something stupid." He noses her and offers a small joking smile, "First stupid thing i've ever done in my life and boy it was a big one huh?"
"I hope we can get back to where we were as far as---whu?" He stopped, falling silent when she shushes him at the sound. He turns slowly and instantly begins to circle around towards the other side of the sound. His apology forgotten he was trying to pin whatever it was between himself and Wachiwa, Focused wholly now on the prospect of eating, he tried too keep his stomach quiet.

Hinto is most certainly *not* food, thank you. And he would much prefer not to be eaten, especially by other wolves. Soon he is indeed behind the other tree, taking care to tread softly this time so that he won't step on any twigs. This is a difficult proposition, as it seems like trees have minds of their own.
That is to say, a stick, with fortuitous timing and no shortage of a sense of humor, breaks off a high branch in the tree and lands right on poor Hinto's head. He stifles a yelp and a growl. That hurt! The stick even decided to be pointy!

Ears pop up as her follow of stalking behind Asku is interrupted by a yelp. "Hey! That sounded like another wolf!" Wachiwa says, suddenly bristling from nose to backside in surprise, her ears laying flat. Well, Asku DID say there had been females around on the borders that didn't belong. Maybe it was one of those. She frowns. Asku, being the 'older' and 'higher rank' of them, as far as things go (He is the son of the Alphas) is allowed to go ahead first.
But that doesn't mean Chewy isn't watching with some concern. She's the only one allowed to chew on Asku.

Asku froze mid-step, he hadn't heard a full yelp, but a stifled one and that told him a few things. Things he didn't like. He felt just as protective of Wachiwa as she did of him. Regardless of their romantic troubles at the moment she would always be his best friend. His fur began to bristle, his hackles rising and he glanced back at Chewy, his eyes hard and small letting her know he was ready for a fight. He was also trying to tell her he wanted her to listen carefully to what he said next, hopefully she would understand how he reached the conclusions he did and that he wasn't just being aggressive for aggressions sake.
His voice was a half growl of threat as he spoke, "Whoever you are you had better come out. I saw the stick fall, and I heard you try to hold back your yelp of pain when it landed. That tells me two things; One that you are a wolf. Two that you are trying to remain hidden, whether that is out of fear or because you are trying to ambush us I don't know. But for the sake of my friend's safety I am going to assume the latter. It also tells me that you are eves dropping on a private conversation, because of the twig your paws snapped earlier. I know that you are not trying to sneak out of the area but are instead circling us."
"That does not paint you in a favorable light. Another thing I know about you is that after snapping that twig you tried to walk more softly, meaning you learn from your mistakes, a good attribute in a friend, however you are acting like a spy or an enemy. And in an enemy that just means I can't afford to be merciful if I catch you. In short I advise you to step out now, very slowly, and where we can see you before my fangs find you." While Asku has summed up the situation very analytically he then displayed a great deal of emotion and drove home just how serious he was by snarling to punctuate his words

Hinto has to really think about that one. Circling? He ended up circling the two, all in an attempt to evade detection? Spirits all around, he made himself seem like some sort of enemy agent of some sort. He supposes he really should just reveal himself and explain the situation. Or...
Or...
Perhaps this old wolf could have a little fun. After all, he just steps out, he'll have to explain himself, assure them he wasn't eavesdropping, just trying to make sure that they wouldn't get into trouble. Besides, he still needs to teach Askuwheateau to stop analyzing every little last thing and try to solve less problems with his brain. So... Hinto peeks out to try and establish where the two are and... runs safely to another tree, taking care to be heard a little bit.
