Aspen - Female Whitetail Deer
Roscoe - Male Whitetail Deer
Setting:
Cluster of Fir Trees
--------------------
Believe it ir not, Aspen has fallen into the motherhood role rather well despite her youthful age. Instincts have kicked in full-force, and both fawns are healthy, and as far as she can tell, happy. But they are still young, and though she doesn't like it, they aren't quite able enough to come with her on her foraging trips. So it's yet again that she has left the two to lay low while she ventures out for sustinance. And...try as she might to keep away from the maple glade, she can't make herself forget how succulent the leaves and grasses are at that particular place. And so, after a bit of travelling, here she is. The doe emerges through the foliage and into the clearing as the shadows of evening elongate as night falls. She moves with a slight bounce in her step before stopping beneath a tree to stretch her neck and nibble at low-hanging leaves. No help needed, this time.
From the depths of the glade, Roscoe emerges into the lighter part of the forest. The delicate rays of fading, evening sunshine that peak through the canopy of green leaves above them make him seem especially red today, and whatever bits of white he had lingering on him, they seemed whiter as well. With his rack of antlers basically formed once again, just covered in their velvety blanket for the season, the male feels more comfortable in his own lighter skin. With his head high and his chest puffed out as usual, the large buck doesn't even have to take a whiff of the breeze to tell that Aspen is around. From where he is, he can see her. A tiny smile forms, though it is short lived. Making his way over toward her gracefully, his tail flicks, and his ears cup toward her. "Good to see you again, Aspen." He says kindly, looking toward their hooves for a moment. "I would say the same for your fawns.. where are they?" A twinge of concern is in his voice, though he's sure they're both safe.
Crunch, munch! Aspen strips a thin branch of its leaves rather quickly and she contents herself with chewing while her ears swivel this way and that. And its this constant surveillance that tunes her into the presence of another, and its while chewing that she turns her head and ears in Roscoe's direction. Her eyes lift to his soft-looking antlers, and a moment later she swallows her mouthful, tail swishing form side to side. Good to see her again? She blinks once before offering a small smile. "Have you seen them at all?" she questions with a vague turn of her head and smirk. "They're...away where they should be. They have not moved from where I had them ... though they will soon, I suppose," she says with a vague sigh, as if dreading the day they become completely mobile with her. "And Tix and your fawn? They're both doing fine, I hope?"
Ears swivelling in all different directions for a moment, Roscoe is confused as to whether or not he and Aspen are actually on good terms or .. not so much. Standing there quietly as she turns around and then speaks up, he chuckles a bit and rolls his shoulders in a shrug. "I'm not sure if I've seen them, actually.." he said, trailing off as he tried to remember how they looked. Normal, he assumed. A bit of a bitterness was felt, but he quickly got over it. The buck grinned at her sigh, and took a step back, eyes wandering to the tops of the trees, as if he hadn't noticed that it was getting late already. "They're.." he started, and pulled one side of his mouth back in thought. Truthfully, he hadn't seen either of them since the day of Hotah's birth. "They're fine. Thank you." Nodding his head, he forced a grin and stifled a yawn. "Your fawns, and you as well.. you're all more than welcome here. There are plenty of thick areas for hiding, and it's.. spacious."
"Oh, good," Aspen says, sounding genuinely honest, as Roscoe tells of Tix's and the fawn's well-being. She has not seen the other doe...well...in quite some time! But still to know that she's alright does being her comfort for whatever reason. She's not even sure if she /likes/ Tix, considering that she's only met her maybe once in the past. His insistence that she and the fawns are welcomed inspires a smile that's soon followed by a soft giggle. "I know," she assures. "And I'm not planning on hiding them away forever. I've already told Chanson I'll be coming back here, and he should meet his son and daughter properly now that that they do just a little more than sleep before he comes too...occupied with other things," said with another thoughtful look to his velvety antlers, expression dimming a little. But her thoughts are soon shaken away as she dips her head to him. "You're tired. Rest. I'll be fine."
Nodding his head, he tries to forget about Tix and Hotah for a moment, knowing that going in search for them at this time of night would be rather silly, though had this been another day or had he not been preoccupied in a converation with this other doe, he probably would've gone anyway. The giggle kind of suprised him, but he grinned back anyway. "Good. I will look forward to meeting them when they do arrive here." He said, making it kind of formal when in it really didn't need to be. The Prince let his status get to his head too much, apparently. As much as he wanted to fight the accusation that he was tired, he simply nodded his head. "You should do the same." Turning himself around, Roscoe glanced back at her as one hoof remained above the ground. "Good night, and be safe." He said in his kind tone again, and was off at a slow but steady pace, his ears kept backward until he was out of her sight.
