Thrash - Adolescent Male Couger
Kein - Male Cougar
- Stone Formations -
Laying out in the grass is Thrash, who appears to be as bored as one cougar can be. His paw has been wrapped up with some kind of plant like vine, beneath it, smeared with some kind of 'healing gel' or whatever it is that the Elder was placing upon it. He also notes that she wasn't gentle, probably because Kein told her to be rough with the upstart. It's been no surprise though that he has made a few of the younger resident ladies giggle though as they came out to inspect this ragamuffin. His pick up lines are world famous for their cheese factor, and he got plenty of eye rolls, hissing, and laughter. For now though, he just watches the clouds, giving his paw a wiggle at times. "Ow."
Kein knows that Thrash has not bothered to move further away. He doesn't blame the boy, really. He's not pleased, no, but he has been injured himself, in the past. He knows how hard it can make it to move. He has avoided the boy, simply because he knows he cannot drive the boy further away. Today, though, he has something to ask of Thrash, and he makes no effort to conceal his presence as he approaches the bored youth.
"Ow... Ow..." Thrash says as he continues to wiggle his paw, eyes squinting down at it. ".. hope she knows what she's.. ow.. doing.." Squinting his eyes down at his paw, then back upwards once he catches the scent of the familiar, angry chieftain, he squints his gold gaze through the sunlight. "Afternoon, sir." See, respect! He owes the war leader, so he may as well be nice, and courteous. He may get something to eat out of it if he's really, really lucky.
"If it hurts, you shouldn't still be moving it. If Sweet Rain saw you doing it, she'd probably break your other paw to go along with it." Though Kein behaves in none too friendly a manner, neither does he growl as he speaks to the boy. What would be the point? Immediately after issuing a reprimand and warning, he leaps into the reason he is here. "Where did you last see my son and daughter?" Kein really isn't one for wasting time or words.
"She probably would, yeah. She reminds me of my grandma. She's a sweet old lady." Thrash says as he puts the paw down gingerly, trying his best not to apply any pressure to it. His tail sways back and forth behind him, and he lifts up a shrug of his shoulders. "Down near the river, about two, maybe three days travel that way." He motions with his head. "I don't know where they were headed though, but they were both in good shape. Last I left them, I had got them food, and that was when I took off."
"I'm not sure I would use sweet to describe her, despite her name." Sweet Rain is a big cougaress. Always has been. And she has only taken to the study of healing at his request, not because it particularly suits her any more than her original occupation. "Thank you, Thrash." It is not food, but at least the chieftain knows when to show some small gesture of appreciation, and this at least gives him a place to have his messenger start looking.
"So... since we're on good terms now, and I did give up two of my kills for your daughter.. think maybe.. I could get something to munch on? I'm totally starving." Thrash says hopefully as he lifts his ears upwards, putting on a broad smile along his boxy muzzle. "Maybe also show me around your lands? I figure if I'm stuck here, I could at least get to know the locals, and see where Maul grew up at."
Kein looks at Thrash silently for a moment, fighting back the desire to growl. "Don't think that your injury has increased your welcome in Amaranth. It hasn't." Tactful? Not really. "And if I'm to get you food, you shouldn't mistake it for compassion, either. At least not mine." Kein is tempered greatly by his mate, and her compassion. Otherwise, Thrash may be dead, even now.
"Oh c'mon, why are you being so grumpy for? Yeah, I was rattling your chain the other day, but that's just how I am. I'm a good guy, really. And I do really like your daughter, honestly." Thrash says as he lets out a loud huff in Kein's direction. "Besides, I've been protecting your borders the entire time I've been here. Some squirrel tried to sneak past me and I totally kicked him out. It was pretty awesome if I can say so." He says with that big, goofy smile upon his face.
Kein appears utterly unamused by Thrash's jokes. Nor does he appear insulted by the light insult. He had been described as grumpy before. It's an accurate description. "You'd best not let squirrels wear you of your strength. There are much scarier things at my northern border than tree-rats. If I were you, I'd be appreciative of any food I could get and focus on resting until you are healed, which will hopefully come before the wolves or other cougars catch wind of you and your weakness."
"Weakness? HA! I don't think so. Any wolves come over here, I'll give 'em a good beat down!" Thrash says, stamping his paw on the ground, as if to illustrate his point, followed by a loud rowl of pain. Wrong paw! Wrong paw! With a grunt of pain, he gives a sheepish look towards Kein, ears flattening back against his skull. "You'd protect me, right?" He asks, almost shyly.
Now, Kein /does/ appear amused. Ah, the stupidity of youth. "You're protected well enough, just by where you are. For now." Those Thrash should be most worried about do not make a habit of venturing too near the Amaranth border.
"But.. if they do come, you'll protect me, right? You wouldn't let me get eaten.." Thrash asks hopefully as he taps his tail back and forth behind him, ears slanting back against his skull. "So.." He trails off. "I.. would like to apologize for yesterday. I was out of line, and I shouldn't have said most of those things to you." He ducks his head a bit, staring down at his paws.
The bold, cocky young man from the previous day seems completely gone, having left behind a lad who, for all his size, seems quite a bit younger, and rather more to Kein's liking. He doesn't really give this away, though. Gruffly, he says, "No. I wouldn't let you be eaten. And I won't let you starve, so... consider yourself forgiven." Forgiven. Not welcome, and he still isn't sure he likes the idea of this boy anywhere near his daughter, but perhaps it's a start?
Nodding his head, Thrash says, "Thanks, sir. Maul...and I do like each other, a lot." He admits softly as he continues to paw the ground, with his good paw this time. "And... if she comes back, and if she still likes me, I'd like to know what I'd have to do to earn your trust, sir. I'm a strong warrior, and I'm a very good fighter.. my dad was like you, big and tough, really aggressive. So he expected that out of me." He says with a sheepish grin. "But, I mostly just mess around..but I can still handle myself."
Kein stares at the boy quietly for a moment. He would rather not be having this talk right now, but since it seems to be happening... "If you are serious about my daughter, and I mean really serious, then there are many things you will have to know. First among them is that if you ever hurt her, the only pieces I would leave of you would be so small, not even flies would bother with them. Do I make myself clear?" With any of his other daughters, he could trust that they would be able to handle the minor heartaches that naturally come along with love, but with Maul...
"Yes sir, I completely understand. My father pretty much tells that to all the boys that try and court his daughters, and he killed one in front of us one day, and it was not pretty, and.. I don't want that to be me." Thrash says as he winces at the old memory. Poor guy, he forgot his name, but he won't forget the mess that was left over. "I promise to never hurt her, won't ever lay a paw on her in anger."
Kein would never kill anyone in front of any of his family members, if he could avoid it. Still, he can't fault Thrash's father for doing that to someone who harmed one of his daughters. At least the boy believes him. Not that Thrash shouldn't, but adolescent boys do not always recognize the truth when it is presented to them. "Maul is not... like most cougaresses. She tries to hide it, but she can be hurt easily. She does her best to pretend to be like any other cougar, because every time she sees judgment in another, it tears at her... but she is /not/ like any other cougar." Kein makes a lot of assumptions, yes. False assumptions, even. But he knows his daughter, and has seen how deeply she hurts, at times.
"Yeah, she seems to get upset really easy at stupid things." Thrash says as he paws at the ground a bit, shrugging his shoulders upwards in a high arc. "I don't understand her, but I do know she makes me feel all goofy though. I can get any lady I want, don't get me wrong, but Maul seems to have a power over me, I don't understand it yet. She got really pissed off at Cael and I fighting, even if we weren't even hurting each other, just wrestling around."
"That is exactly the problem. To you or me, these things might be stupid. To her, they are very important. I don't expect you to just trust me when I tell you that she has experienced more terror than anyone her age, than anyone any age, ever should, but she has. She's seen enough bloodshed and lost enough loved ones. She doesn't need more of that." Really, Kein and Thrash, and Nayeli and Maul, are not so very different. As Maul's father, he doesn't like it, but as Nayeli's mate, he can understand the things Thrash says.
"Well, I've seen some pretty gory things back at home, kind of why I took off." Thrash says with a deep breath. "My clan was always at war with their neighbors, and it got to a point where I was being asked to get in and kill others I had no issues with. So.." He trails off as he paws the ground. "I left, maybe I'm a coward, but I didn't want to get in the middle of a war I didn't understand, or wanted any part of. Don't get me wrong, I love kicking someone's ass, but I don't condone killing for no good reason. They're always arguing about territory, or food, or whatever. I don't see why they can't work together, something about a long time ago someone pissed off someone else, and for years there has been a feud."
Kein has his fair share of cougars who hate him just for who he is. For where he is. He has a duty to his tribe, to his ancestors, to protect this mountain, to keep it as a place for his mate's children, but even so, there have been many times when he just wanted to leave. Yes, in many ways, he and Thrash are very alike. "Accidents happen. You can ask my son what the problem with getting in stupid brawls is, but don't expect him to be happy to tell you. As far as my daughter... I suggest you avoid asking her things. When she wants you to know something, when /she/ is ready to know something, she will tell you."
"Ha, I don't plan on asking her stuff like that. I just want to get to know her in general." Thrash says as he sways his tail back, and forth behind him, then puffs out his broad chest a bit, giving his shoulders a good rolling back. "I can't wait to have round two with Cael. I owe him one for the whap he put across my head, but I sure knocked him on his ass though. He's a good fighter, he learn all that from you?"
Kein bares his teeth now. "If you really expect food and a warm welcome here, I would watch how you talk about all of my children." Kein has never pretended that he is fair when dealing with misbehavior from his children, where it involves outsiders. Even if his son is at fault, he will not stand idly by while this male talks about fighting with his son. "My son may fight well, but he has a few things to learn, yet." Kein doesn't attempt to disguise that statement as a not-so-mild threat. Just because Thrash put Cael on his back doesn't mean he could do it to Kein.
"Hey, I like Cael. He reminds me of my older brother, and I used to wrestle with him all the time." Thrash says with a loud snort. "I had a lot of fun with him, and I think he enjoyed it as well. I gave him a good brawl, even if he came out on top. None of us really got hurt, unless you count my jaw that he almost broke. Besides, we had a completely misunderstanding. I thought he was hurting Maul, and he thought I was attacking them, and Maul cleared it up. You never tussled with your siblings before when you were younger, or even you friends?"
"I had a sister who died when we were still very young, and a brother who was afraid of his own shadow. My only friend was a girl." Kein did not do a lot of play fighting, growing up, save with small animals and inanimate objects. "And I'd be careful about assuming too much about how Cael might enjoy fighting. If it's a game to him, it isn't a friendly one."
"Your only friend was a girl? I guess that's cool.. if she was hot." THrash says as he flops back upon his haunches, then quirks up a grin upon his muzzle. It seems that something has crossed his mind, something funny that he isn't quite sharing to the older cougar. His tail flicks back, and forth behind him.
"That girl is now my mate." And, like many male cougars, Kein is very possessive of his mate. Especially as she is the only one he has ever taken. His patience with Thrash having worn very thin, he says, "I will go find you a meal, now. You should stay off of that paw." He may have already messed up Sweet Rain's work. She wouldn't like it if he screwed it up, further.
"Oh, then she definitely must have been. Good for you, kitten sweet hearts. I used to have one of those, but she found someone else." Thrash says with a flatten of his ears back against his skull, looking disappointed for a moment. "But, Maul is ten times more prettier, and super sweet, so I think I lucked out." He says with a tap of his tail, slowly sprawling out onto his stomach. "Sure I can't cross the borders and meet the rest of your family? I promise not to hit on anyone."
"You've a long way to go before I allow that." If Kein ever does allow it. After speaking, he turns to begin walking away. There is nothing more good that can come from this conversation, so far as Kein believes.
