Place: Dense Undergrowth, Lazuli territory Time: Mid Afternoon Involved: Lazuli members
Summary: Larkspur has finally returned home after a long absence, and she has news for her family.
---
Home. Smells, sights, sounds that are achingly familiar threaten to overwhelm the shewolf. The sun is bright and cheerful, illuminating everything she's missed for so long. Her pawsteps are quick and strong. She is racing toward the undergrowth and the den, eager to see her family again. Who will all be there? The wolf's mind wanders with possibilities. Will her new sibling be around? Just the thought makes her muzzle split into a grin. And how will her parents -- or the whole pack, for that matter -- take the news? Her smile shrinks a bit at the thought of her father's reaction. Oh, he is going to be /thrilled/.

It's been several days since she last steped foot upon familiar ground, least of all the ground that resides right outside the den. The time spent looking for Johari was long, Lykaios can atone for that much, but it was well worth the effort. The surprise she discovered; she still doesn't know what to think. Back home, Halidari has yet to enter the area of the undergrowth, unfact she stands just outside it looking around for anyone or anything. The wind rushing by, there's a scent in the air she hadn't smelt in far to long within it and it caught her attention. Moveing forward to find the presumed owner of this scent, a second surprise makes itself known; it's Larkspur. At first she thought her eyes were playing tricks on her; her sister here; but as she grew closer it was no trick, but the real thing. "If it isn't my long lost sister." Teases Hali with a smirk as she passes through the undergrowth.

Several hours after their hunt, Felstride returned to the den with the others to check on the pups who, thankfully, all remained within the confines of the den while they were away. They're getting older and older by the day and it's harder to keep their energy bottled up while out on necessary excursions like that. Still, with the pack returns and stomachs full, the male can sit content in the knowledge that everyone has been provided for. Sitting quietly at the edge of the den, the aging male had been looking off to the east, to the river, a vague and distant gaze upon his face as if he was looking past the dense forest of trees to something far beyond comprehension. It's because of this that he doesn't notice the change in the wind and he doesn't taste the scent on his palatte until a soft and familiar voice ghosts across his mind and he blinks, turning to see his eldest daughters side by side. It takes a brief moment, but a warm and gracious smile blooms across the wolf's graying muzzle, and Felstride stands and takes a few paces forward, tail low and wagging in quiet greeting.
Behind him, the stoic and silent white pup had been eyeing the old wolf's tail for some time, reaching out with a forepaw in an attempt to swat the thing away, but it moved just out of his reach before he got the chance. Surprised, Echo blinks and watches as Felstride moves off a little ways, and with a playfull butt-waggle the boy pup trundles after his uncle. He stops though, wary, seeing the two older wolves that he doesn't quite recognize, and peers around Felstride's hind leg, ears flat and blue eyes bright, but cautious. In his unease, he begins to om-nom-nom lightly on the male's back paw, watching as one of the female wolves runs closer and another comes out of the woods. With an open mouth, he breaths through his nose and snuffles up at his uncle, 'Unc', who'ar dey?' say his eyes, though, as ever before, he remains mute.

Time has taught Riko several things. Including the fact that all her other senses are right: the outside world still exists during daylight hours, even though she can't see it. That doesn't mean she goes far during the day, though, still not liking the way afternoon light -- even when filtered by the forest canopy -- affects her vision. The dark pup sits in the den's entrance, and stays there despite hearing Fel' and Echo pad a short distance away. Pricked ears angle towards the sounds. "Da'?" she prompts anxiously, knowing Echo won't be able to convey many answers to her at this time.

"Hali!" Lark yelps in reply. She nuzzles her sister. "Skies above, I missed you!" Pulling away with a grin, she notices her father. Instead of racing toward him immediately, as she thought she might, the shewolf looks at the aging alpha for a moment. It seems to startle her that that the male doesn't look exactly like she remembers. Then again, she must look different to them. Her reverie is broken by the sight of a white bundle of fur lurking behind her father. Gasping slightly with surprise, she wonders if this is one of her siblings and tries to get a closer look. After another moment of peering at the pup, she decides to heck with it and lopes over to the alpha to administer a gentle nuzzle. The female is too focused on Fel to notice the pup in the den entrance, at least for now.

Waiting for some sort of response from her sister upon turning around and taking sight of her, Hali takes one last look around the place as she makes those final last steps of encroachment. Not noticing their father nearby would be impossbile, but the possibility of missing him out of distraction was still an option. However, over the past few days Hali's senses have grown along with herself and she does notice him. With the turning of an ear in his direction, to indicate such, her gaze falls back on Larkspur, meeting up with her at last. "I was beginning to think the forest had managed to actually swallowed you this time." Chuckles Halidari who obviously can't help but joke a little as she returns the long awaited nuzzle. It's been a long time sence she actually laid eyes on her sister; infact she's a bit disappointed yet happy at the same time. "I've missed you too." Just then a single small note of another reaches the outward ear of the female. Shifting her ears one last time, Hali raises a brow ready to turn and give acknowledgement but holds herself from further action as Lark leaves her and makes way to their father.
Remaining where she is for a moment, she watches the two as greetings are made before stepping forward to give greeting to her father as well. Looking back to her sister then Fel once more the wonder of what he thought about his second daughters return did cross mind but never gave it to much thought herself just yet. Taking a seat near the two, Hali smiles softly side-glancing to the young ones below. Riko she knew, having played her once or twice, but the other she wasn't to familiar with but least knew his name.

The older male stays quiet for a time, content to watch his grown children reuinte, as sisters and family should, and a sad, aged smile rests across his muzzle. When Larkspur turns to look at him, Felstride sees a she-wolf who knows her future, who has something to tell him, but, above all, who is his daughter. That same look is given to Halidari, as well, knowing that both of his girls have their own minds and beliefs, knowing full well that they will do what they have set out to do. And this is not a sad realization, rather, it is uplifting for the wolf who, has recently, begun to feel tired and grizzled, and who has been feeling none-too-well since the mid-evening hunt. As he stands, even now, a dull ache in his side from his old wound creeps up on him, though perhaps the only hint of the pain is a brief and subtle flash of his amber eyes, though it is gone as instantly as it appeared. Larkspur's gasp breaks him of his thoughts, his ears tilting forward, and it is then that he realizes his leg is being slowly eaten. The wolf blinks, and with a gentle, thrumming laughter, turns his head to see the wide-eyed white pup, and a soft, subtle voice beckons him back to the den's entrance. The male turns and noses young Echo in the rear, urging him to meet with his two aunts while he moves back to nuzzle warmly behind Riko's ear. "Riko," he croons softly, carefully watching the pup's eyes, though he knows, for some reason, she cannot see him now, "Your older sister's are here. Would you like to meet them?"
To his Uncle, Echo snuffles, surprised, as he's butt-shoved closer to the older and taller females who he really has no recollection of. He knows that they are not his mother, by any means, though they have a strange smell that almost like Lazuli, but too much like the forest beyond... a scent he only briefly knows from when his mother returns. He totters forward a few paces, casting bright blue eyes up to Larkspur before Riko's quiet call distracts him, and his large ears twist back and he bounds back to the den right behind his uncle, nuzzling Riko's side and pressing his shoulder up against hers. He snuffles in her neck to let her know that he's there, and mouth at her ear-tip in playfull jest. He has learned, too, that while he remains silent, his litter mate cannot see until the darkness comes and, as children often do, he has come to accept that and taken a kind of charge to look after her during the daylight.

Riko looks towards her father's voice, ears angled forwards. "Hali?" she says, lifting her muzzle to sniff at the air. It does smell a little like Halidari, come to think of it. "Hali's green." 'Green' having, out of stubbornness, evolved into Riko's equivalent of 'good', 'neat', or 'cool'. But... sisters? More than one? Echo's touch is met with a grateful snort, the dark pup burying her nose in his ruff. Riko stands up and leans her shoulder against Echo, but she hesitates a lot when it comes to actually walking, her ears flicking back with distaste. She doesn't want to go out there. Not at all.

*tosses in a pose so you all know she's still alive. XD*
Voices finally get Storm's attetnion from within the den, the she-wolf stands, stretching while a yawn escapes her before she slowly makes her way up to the den and looks outside. Her ears perk, maw twitching as she looks around Felstride to see who else is here, it doesn't take to long for her to get Lark's scent and a smile crosses her maw. She lowers her head to give a soft nosing to both Riko and Echo to show that its alright. "No, not Hali. Its Lark." This offered in a soft murmur to the pair of pups so that they will both know who it is.

Lark grins at Echo and her tail sways slowly as he goes over to Riko. Ah, a sibling! When the girlpup announces that Hali is 'green', she shoots an amused look first to her father and secondly to Hali, who doesn't look terribly green. At the sound of her mother's voice, the shewolf's muzzle bursts into a wide smile. The alphaess would be getting a nuzzle, but she is too close to the pups. Lark doesn't want to frighten them by racing toward them. She can properly greet her mother soon, perhaps when she has stepped away from the little Lazuli members. As she examines Riko and Echo, something doesn't feel quite right. Maybe these pups are different, but the wolf distinctly remembers being a bundle of energy at their age. If their roles had been reversed, she would have bounded out eagerly to meet a new comer, but maybe they're just shy. They are so quiet! Riko has spoken a little, but Echo....hmmm. Certainly she isn't /that/ scary?

A fair look down to Riko, Halidari smiles amused that her younger sister would still think of her as green like that of the rock they found or the bug caught. It made her laugh just thinking about it. "Still think of me as green, huh." she tells the young pup with a gental smile. "If you like, you can call me green all you like." Whatever made her sister happy, made her happy and thats all that mattered. A look is then drawn up to the voice of her mother. It was always good to see her parents, especially both of them. "Hey mother.. everythings alright I hope?" Not that she thinks there is, but one never truely knows. Stepping up, taking to mind of where the pups are, she meets up with Storm and greets her with a nuzzle.

"Mm, green," Felstride murmurs in slight affirmation in his daughter's ear, taking a brief moment to wash over her face with his tongue and smooth down some of her ruffled fur. Riko, he's come to realize, has a kind of world to herself, one she's built herself during the daytime and even when the moon is at its fullest and highest. He hasn't drawn her out of it, and sees no reason to do so; it is something that she will journey through as she gets older. He watches Echo as he acts as Riko's young body guard and smiles ever so briefly before he picks up his head to see his mate emerge from the darkness of the den. He moves closer to her and nuzzles Storm's neck and shoulders, burying his face in her neck ruff and inhailing her scent in a kind of cubbish way, enjoying her touch and company before he lifts his head again to return his attention to those gathered. Felstride issues a breathy sigh as he eases himself back on his haunches, trying to avoid attracting attention to his worn and tired self, "Larkspur," he murmurs, "This is Riko," he notes, pausing for a moment to touch his nose to the girl's head, "and her litter mate, Echo, Miakoda's son." The white pup is nosed as well before he stops to take a good long look at his eldest daughters. "It is good to see you both again," he says quietly, curling his tail against his haunches and easing his still tense stance as much as he can.
To Felstride's nuzzle, Echo offers a stiff-legged bap at his nose before the other wolf's attention is again grabbed by the newcomers. Storm is given a beaming smile and a tip of his head in greeting, returning her nuzzle with a few choice nibbles at her neck ruff. Standing out against the darker fur of his alpha's and their daugher, Echo's rather easy to spot even as he mooshes himself against Riko and eyes Larkspur and Halidari, half-hidden behind the girl pup's ears. Om-nom-nom.

"Lark?" Riko echoes, turning towards her mother's voice and touch, responding to the nuzzle by nosing at her fur. "Is a Lark green?" she asks of Felstride, pale blue eyes peering into the (for her) featureless gray distance. But the girl-pup's contemplation is cut short by Echo's chewing on her ears. Riko yelps and ducks her head, nudging the paler pup in playful reprimand with her shoulder.

Storm smiles at Riko and nuzzles back at the cub once more. "Well I suppose you could call her green too." She offers before leaning back into Felstride, her tail swaying a few times as she settles down to her haunches next to her mate. The alpha has picked up on how her mate has been acting and will be talking to him about it later for sure. A warm smile is offered to Echo and she noses the boy before turning the attention to her older daughters. "Hello Hali. Everything is fine." At least that's what she knows, she nuzzle Hali back before looking to Lark. "I'm glad you've home Lark, we've all missed you."

Lark's tail sways at the thought of being 'green'. "It's nice to meet you, Riko and Echo," she says, smiling happily as her tail swings faster. Her eyes notice Felstride's laboured movements, but knows she must address something first. After a deep breath, the wolf replies, "Thank you, mother. I'm glad to be home. It's been so long..." She stops and clears her throat, "But I've come to tell you some exciting news." A pause, now, to gather her thoughts. Eyes flicking momentarily to her mother, father, and sister, she continues, "Haze and I are going to start our own pack." The wolfess looks instantly to her father, knowing that he isn't-- or at least he wasn't-- terribly fond of Haze. Her heart is beating almost painfully fast, hoping for a favourable reaction from her family.
