Aurora, female cougar
Peyote, male cougar
=== Foggy Path ===
It's been several moons over the span of a full cycle of seasons since the young Amaranth princess had spread her wings -- or at least been nudged encouragingly out of the nest -- and Aurora feels the deep longings to return to the lands of her family, the heart-tugging yearnings of homesickness...even if she hasn't truly been alone this whole time. While her father, the chieftain, sent her out to fend on her own, the smallish cougaress truthfully didn't end up spending very much time by herself even from the beginning. After her terrifying encounter with the bear, and Peyote's daring rescue, Aurora hasn't strayed very far from her cubhood friend's side...and neither has the boy abandoned the protective post he's taken up in the meantime. Even now, as they finally begin their southern trek that will carry their paws south, away from the forests and back up the ascent to Amaranth's mountain, the faintly-spotted female wonders if she's actually accomplished whatever it was she was supposed to have been doing out here in the first place. "Peyote? What do you think I was supposed to be looking for out here, anyway?" Maybe her best friend has some idea.
Its been ages since they set off, many moons indeed. Peyote's paws have become used to the travel. Keeping their minds off the distance traversed with recalling all the fun times had back home as well as new instances of adventure in between. "Man I wonder if we can find ourselves some elk again.." He mutters to himself. "Huh? I dunno, they do this with all the kids of Amaranth. Probably to show you some independence." He smirks then laughs softly. "Glad I could accompany you though." He lashes his tail and looks up the slope of the climb that will take them home. "Do we really have to go back already?" Its halfway said with a laugh, but maybe theres part of him that wants to stay out here with her.
"Mmmm..." Aurora croons at remembering the savory deliciousness of their first elk kill together. Granted, it was a runt of a female, and still difficult despite that, but all the extra effort (particularly on Peyote's part) had been well worth it in the end. At the other male's suggestion, the pale-furred female gives a little thoughtful 'huff' as she walks onward, paws crunching over the dry pine straw that's already covering the ground at the end of this particular summer. "Yeah, I guess so. And yeah, we gotta. But, I think I was supposed to find something out here on my own..." She pauses for a second as she thinks over what she just said, and gives a little laugh at that. "I guess I didn't really do it on my own, though...but that's okay. If nothing else, I think I found /you/," the young cougaress purrs, swaying towards Peyote before coquettishly bumping her muzzle underneath his chin, then pulling away a moment later with a faint blush beneath her furred cheeks. "...though I guess it was really more like you found me."
Peyote rolls his eyes dramatically and then has his head bounced into the air a bit from the show of affection. "Thats dumb though.. You could have found me at home and we wouldn't have had to go anywhere.." If she was trying to be sweet he obviously missed something. He notices her shying up and boldly gives his female companion a nuzzle on the cheek. "But ya, you had to go.. so of course I had to find you.. what was I going to do, wait for you at home? Pshshh. Sides, who would have rescued that bear from that berserk Amaranth warrior?"
Aurora giggles at Peyote's typically boyish response, though her pale green eyes glimmer with obvious adoration nonetheless. "I guess that's true...but...I kinda liked spending all this time with you. You're a lot of fun to be around. And I'm glad you were there to save me," she continues to affectionately coo, apparently quite enamored with the young male that she's become quite close to over the couple of years she's been alive. She may not have found much on her long journey, or at least recognized what she's seen as being much, but like she said, she at least found him. "Hey, Peyote...you're gonna stay with me back in the Amaranth lands, aren't you?" Hopefully despite anything her dad might have to say on the matter, and any instinctual dispersal urges the young adult male might have himself. She found him, and she doesn't want to lose him.
Peyote's smirk turns more into an actual smile. "I liked spending the time with you too." He puffs his chest out feeling a little bit important. He did manage to keep her safe from danger this entire time and he found it to be a good test of his skills as a hunter as well. "You know, I bet the elders just get lazy and they send out us to learn how to hunt for them." He laughs but he might not be too far off there. "Huh? Ya come on of course. Its you and me all the way!" He chirps with a big smile and then scoots ahead on the path before stopping to wait for her up ahead. "If they send /me/ on a spirit quest journey I'm taking you right back out here again with me."
Another twitter of laughter escapes Aurora's throat at Peyote's answers, 'wise' in their own way, and the girl quickly bounds after him to catch up to the bigger male, smiling all the while. "You always make me feel so happy, Peyote," the undersized cougaress purrs sweetly as she moves up beside him again. "I'd like that. It'd be fun to go out exploring and having adventures again," she replies, green eyes turning skyward as she fondly reminisces. "...well, except maybe not the part with the bear."
Peyote snickers and nods in agreement. "And what about that time that rattlesnake held you prisoner in that hollow log. Hahah, we had to convince him that you were too big to eat!" Ah yes, fun times.. "And now we have to go face your father! DundunDunnnn.." He says all dramatically, though hes sure that her father will be happy to see her returned in one piece. With that Peyote realizes that this might be the last time before they get back to their families when he will really be alone with her. He scoots a little closer after she catches up with him and purrs, nuzzling her facial cougar markings with his own.
Aurora wrinkles her rosy-colored nose up in an adorable gesture of displeasure at the reminder of the rattlesnake encounter, only 'improved' by the presence of a pink tongue at the mention of facing her father again...though it's lost with a blink as the smaller girl is surprised by the suddenly returned affection from Peyote. Though certainly not in a bad way. The nuzzle is quickly returned, Aurora offering a sweet little lick to the other boy's cheek, accompanied with the soft thrum of a loving purr.
Peyote blinks in surprise at the kiss, but settles down quickly as he was expecting a reaction like that, hoping for it a bit. "Dont worry about a thing though really. I think this whole journey proved it. There's no place we can't go together so we dont ever have to be apart." Seems the little bug of love has bitten Peyote too. He matches her purring with his own and leads the smaller cougress up the path towards home.
