Characters: Lazuli and Viridian pack members Location: Merging Tributary (river bordering the prairie)
-----
In the time since Haze had left to propose his idea to Tariro, the moon has passed through a full cycle, rising once more to a full, bright, white glow in the midnight sky. Although summer is coming to an end, the night is still warm, though an occasional chilled breeze riffles through the Lazuli alpha's brindled fur as he travels once more across the plains, this time with the eagerly young Motega at his side. After almost an hour of walking, mostly in solemn silence, from their home to the south, the pair of unrelated (by blood, at least) males finally arrive at the river that divides the prairie to the south from the woodlands to the north. Stepping up to the water's edge, his paws sinking in to the cool, damp mud found along its banks, Haze's amber gaze follows the winding river to sight the fork where the south-flowing stream merges with the east-running river, eventually pouring out into a still, peaceful pond. Seems appropriate enough for a similarly new beginning. Settling down on his haunches on the embankment, the valley-born male tilts his muzzle back in a long, soulful howl, summoning not only Tariro, but any of those who would join them, both Lazuli and Viridian, in unifying their split packs.

With the many times he has set paw upon the murky foothold of where the river met the forest and the clearing to the south, the white wolf of Viridian would find nothing but the silence that now took hold of what seemed like a barren wasteland every time. The fork and lands around it had now basically become home to those who still called themselves a part of Viridian even though they knew they'd eventually have to depart. When that time would come was unknown to most, even the one who shoulders carried most the burden. Tariro never gave up hope, however, as he got up each day and made that walk around the vicinity his family occupied. On his way back one day something was different; the breeze seemed to flow with purpose. It carried a message; a howl that came as a lure; it was the sign he had been searching for. Making quick to howl himself, it not only served as a response to the first but as a message to those of his pack able to hear it. Hoping they would follow behind him, the white wolf set foot in the general direction of whom he could only assume was Haze.

Venturing farther than he had before was one of Tariro's newest pups, a son named Rockfall. The pup heard his father's call, and his developing, gangly paws trapsed through grasses taller than himself, across trecherous rocky gulleys and through dusty fields to arrive at his father's side. The pup wiggle-waggles his tail, arches his head and does his best to answer his father's howl with a high-pitched, relatively weak one of his own.

A path worn into the grass was a for sure sign that someone had been traveling through the area around of the Butte; and rather recently too. Wondering about aimlessly seemed like a reasonable thing to do right; well it was when you were bored and the only one around to witness it. Coming to a stop near the areas landmark, Halidari looks up toward the sky and it is at that moment that she no longer becomes alone as a howl echos through the wind. The howl from the south draws the slate wolfs attention from the sky and to the forest; sounding a lot like Haze, she takes only a few steps towards that direction a first, looking around her briefly and noticing that Motega had taken leave. Giving quick question as to where the adolescent had gone before proceeding onward, she starts forth toward the owner of the howl; perhaps she'll run into him on the way.

Motega simply wasn't good at following people. Still an adolescent, the young male would often wander to a crevice or something else with an interesting scent that caught his attention, and no matter how hard he tried to follow the scent of the one he was following, he simply couldn't find them. However, this time, being lost had it's benefits. From travelling with Halidari for a while there, he'd done just this. The red-brushed wolf had caught the scent of a rabbit, and had tracked and chased it for a few minutes, catching himself a meal but in the process, also getting himself very lost. Wandering further north every day, he eventually came upon the path of the one he was first following, Haze. So as not to be scolded for his disappearance, the younger one had taken to a bout of silence, following Haze and only following Haze, keeping his attention on the alpha and whatever it was that he did. How would he explain this to Halidari? Surely, she would understand a pup's talent for getting misguided. Standing there now, at the tributary with the former Lazuli alpha, Motega stood quietly behind Haze even as the howl-call was given. The temptation to join had nagged at his vocal cords, but he did not. Not unless he had permission to, and he didn't want to step on any paws by doing what was an alpha's job.

Ears perking at the soon-returned howl from the eager would-be alpha, Haze lowers himself onto his haunches, posed casually for the coming meeting. Though it is indeed a serious matter, one of changing politics and shifting hierarchies and family ties, the deposed Lazuli alpha does not wish to create any more anxious tension than is absolutely necessary, wishing for a smooth transition into the new pack hierarchy. When his sister's son arrives on the other side of the river, easily identified by his similarly monochromatic coat, Haze's muzzle is dipped respectfully towards the other male. Lifting his amber eyes to survey those who have come already, and sensing those who have yet to arrive, the brindle-furred wolf addresses Tariro with a serious-minded gaze. "Nephew, will the Viridian join with the Lazuli, and be unified together as a single, stronger pack?"

Lexus is hunting in the wood, quietly stalking a hare when he hears the howls and briefly forgets his dinner. The hare bolts and Lex just frowns after it as he perks his ears pinpointing the direction the howling came from. At least one howl he recognises and with a returning howl of his own he dives off through the undergrowth and towards the gathering. He slows down to a trot as the other come into view, coming to stop behind and somewhat to the side of Tariro. He nods to his nephew silently before watching Haze.

The white wolf's trek was a short one, even though he had made a short stop to assist his son who had heard his call and followed along. Though he would have wished Rockfall to of stayed behind with his mother, it was up to him to keep watch of the little guy now since he hadn't. Giving the pup a light nudge with his nose to follow, Tariro continues on; the Tributary in eye shot, the wolves there following shortly there after. Coming to a brisk stop at the rivers edge, it is not long after that he is joined by his Uncle Lexus. A light smile given to his packmate, he turns to Haze and returns the nod in respect. Before giving the older wolf the answer he seeks, Tari' takes a moment to see those who had come. Upon turning back to Haze he nods, "Yes." One word was all he says, taking a single step forward. "Will the Lazuli do the same; to join us in the same respects as one family in hope of a brighter future?" Although the Viridian were skeptical and wary of the Lazuli, he had confidence they'd treat the unfamiliar the same as one who was.

Halidari, of course, wasn't one to allow herself to become displeased over the young adolescents actions of getting lost; things happen. Though she had lost track of Motega herself, she doesn't loses his scent. Following along she does eventually reunite with the young wolf and evidently Haze as well after a good trek through the forest. Keeping a fair distance at first, she waits a moment before stepping up to the tributary. Greeting the two wolves with a nod, Hali glances around; who else was here she wondered. It did not take her long to pick up on the white wolf Haze addresses as Tariro. Offering him a nod in greeting, she moves up alongside Haze. Although she held no position of leadership in the Lazuli, she was one of the eldest in the pack. Looking to Haze as he spoke, she turns to Tariro awaiting his answer. Who was this wolf who stood for Viridian. Her question mute, she takes note of the second wolf taking up along side the first; keeping her silence.

Shag is watching the proceedings nearby. The starry backed male seems to have the strange ability to simply appear when he's needed these days. Odd for one of so much bulk, being able to be so stealthy. He had heard the howl from afar and come towards it faithfully, slinking through the woods until he came to this very spot: a mossy bit of ground next to a thin tree. Though what he's actually here for is anyone's guess, since he seems more concerned about the tree, and the ground around him. One paw is splayed out on the ground, and his ear is pressed against the bark of the tree next to him, practically hugging the thing with his head. But when the talking starts and the offers are made, he comes forward, making himself known simply by moving into view, his puffy, shaggy pelt wavering and shimmering in the air. He comes up alongside Tariro, showing his worth, his unity and confidence in his brother's decisions, standing tall, proud, and rather mysterious next to him, staring directly at Haze. So this was the male that was going to step down and make the transition that much easier? Strange. But it had to happen. Winter is coming. "We stand as one. But ready to swell in number," he says quietly, his voice gentle and resonating. A dream's voice of a dreamer. He is here to support Tariro. That is all he seems to be willing to acknowledge. Everything else is written in the stars... everything else is merely details.

The young Viridian pup named Rockfall is excited at the prospect of meeting these wolves they would merge with to become one ... but it isn't long before his excitement turns to a bit of fear: these are strange wolves! What had the pup expected? He gulps a bit and clings to a spot very near his father's heel. He sniffs at Motega, Haze and Halidari from safely behind his father.

"We will...we must. I feel that we must unite as one in order to have any hope of a brighter future." As what must be the alpha-to-be's brother, not only by sight and smell but also by stature, approaches the gathering of wolves, Haze's golden eyes turn in his direction, considering his added support. "I do not wish to vie for the role of alpha with this new pack. I have done enough," the brindled older male explains, his tone slightly weary. "Though, I still think our new pack should carry on the original alphas' legacies for as long as possible, to honor our split paths before we became as one." Turning to the younger male who's settled slightly off to the side behind him, Haze looks briefly to Motega before returning his gaze to the pair of brothers across the stream. "Tariro, I would move that Motega, son of Lazuli's betas, grandchild of alphaess Storm, take a supporting rank alongside you and your brother, sons of Viridian's betas, grandchildren of alphaess Silver." It just feels right for it to be that way...the aging wolf can feel it in his bones.

Though it was indeed a great honor to be considered for a supporting role in the pack, Motega would just as soon not be in a leadership position. However, he doesn't want to disappoint anyone. Quite the contrary, the young male wanted to be accepted as an upstanding member of the pack, and if it meant taking up a leadership position, then he would do so, and would do so quite willingly, with his excited, pup-like eagerness to learn the ways. So long as he was met with guidance, of course. The grandson of Storm hadn't known his lineage.. the title that Haze had given him in order to introdue his non-related nephew to the other alpha actually caught him by surprise. A flick of his ears was given, and he looked from the brindled wolf close to him, to the other, on the opposite side of the conversation. A grin was given, and he nodded his head respectfully, but remained silent as stone. What would he say? A 'thank you' would be in order, but not until after the formal proceedings. He would say how honored he was, but not yet. Right now, everything was still being worked out, and Motega wouldn't be the one to butt in just yet.

While awaiting his uncles reply, the lingering presence of Tariro's brother strikes the wolf in high regards. He wasn't sure if Shag was going to come; social gatherings outside the realm of nature were not something his brother often took part in. However, this wasn't your everyday meeting; it was their future slowly being writ in stone. So the white wolf was not to surprised to see his brother emerge from the wilds and take a stance beside him, even for as odd as he made it feel. Giving Shag a brief nod, Tari's attention shifts back to Haze and his prepared answer. A respectful nod giving follow, he listen closely. This he knew of the older and would not push for his mindset to change on relinquishing his title; it was up to him whether he wished to continue. Though with his down-step it would mean a new to step forth. As the given appointee, he was ready. Allowing his momentary silence to further, Tariro turned to the young wolf who stood in back. It was mentioned that 'this' Motega was to follow in his parents paw prints within the new pack and he wanted to meet this wolf before giving any final decision on the said role. Now that he has seen him, Tari would, as of now, give no objection. Like he and his brother, Motega carried the same story; to hear it spoken aloud brings realization. "As a child of prior leadership, I see it only fit that he continue their legacy." He says turning to Haze assuring their alphas legacies will continue to thrive. Back upon the young wolf he says, "Motega, I welcome you at my side not only as support, but as a friend, as family." Turning from Motega, Tariro looks to Shag. "What say you brother. Will you accept this wolf as I have and work alongside him; strengthening the bonds between our two great packs?"
****
It was not long after the notice of the second that Halidari's ears flick to that of a third. At first she could not see him, but in short notice there he was; a shaggy wolf who stood in that of a similar manner as of the first; his brother. She has seen many wolves in her lifetime, formal and unsure, these two were certainly no different. Letting Haze do the talking, it was clear she was here only as a witness to the following union. Slowly looking to Motega as he is mentioned, a light smile covers the slate shewolf's face. As much as it would of been an honor for even herself to accept, Beta was not her dream, it was that of Alpha; the one position she'd die to protect in order to hold. This particular thought brings the females look back upon the males across the river. It was one of them who would claim it and this she frowned upon. Keeping her disapproval a silent one she gives quiet congrats to her young nephew, sure he'll do just fine when given the chance.

Shag does not answer Tariro at first, instead regarding the two wolves before them with a secretive, furtive gaze. Haze he only stares at and nods politely, but Motega gets something a bit more focused. Shag trundles forward in a non-threatening way, but his eyes are ever on the young male. This is a very important decision, and he must make a good analysis after all. He comes right up to Motega, staring, ever staring, totally unblinking with those strange dreamer's eyes of his. Forest green in color like crisp, new leaves regard the other male with an expression that's virtually unreadable. Who can tell what Shag is even looking for? Nobody watching him can tell. And then his gaze is broken with the suddenness of a snapping twig. That's it, apparently. He moves to the side and walks around the two Lazuli wolves, but it is no longer watching them now. He's just... looking at the forest. Considering. Pondering. Mulling. What a strange way to go about things. He watches the trees above, set against the sky farther up. "Green. Blue..." A blink upwards. "Cerulean," he murmurs, closing his eyes, and nods at some unheard voice. "Oh... yes. That makes perfect sense." He stops pacing near all three of them, watching each of them in turn. He smiles very widely as his large pelt fluffs up, the stars on his back shimmering as he shakes himself happily.
"Cerulean! That's what we need to call it."
Apparently, that was his way of saying yes.

Haze's ears tip forward when the less familiar Viridian wolf pads up close to Motega, peering curiously at the young adolescent while he apparently makes some sort of internal assessment of his potential as beta. When he finally pipes up, the deposed Lazuli alpha listens carefully to his musings, particular the mystical-sounding word that Shag comes up with as the title of their newly joined pack.
"Then let it be done. The Lazuli and Viridian are now one."
The Viridian-born male then returns his gaze to Tariro, the new alpha of the Cerulean, looking intently at the white wolf. With a lowering of his forequarters, Haze proceeds to submit his authority in a respectful bow to their families' new leader.
