Characters:
Nyssa - Female Cougar
Kein - Male Cougar
Her dreams found her to be quite accommodating, floating lazily across her mind most of the evening and slowly vanishing into the morning mist as the sun began to warm the air around her a little, stirring the young female from the realm of sleep. With her eyes still closed, Nyssa draws a longing breath of morning air through her nose, releasing it with a wide yawn, at the same time synchronizing her legs to stretch out from beneath her. She doesn't yet open her eyes, but her ears search her surroundings in her waking haze and find little, if nothing, to be alarmed about.
Though his sleep was not more sound than usual, per se, the times he did wake up, he it easy enough to remain lying down until he drifted off again, instead of becoming restless as he might, normally. While Nyssa's eyes are still closed, his open in response to her yawning and shifting. Without moving, he says, "I'll have you know, it is not nearly warm enough yet for you to be considering getting up." Though he does not smile, his tone gives away amusement enough. And though he contradicts himself with a thought that he ought to be the one getting up and tending to his lands, for now, he remains lying down, hoping to relax for at least a while longer.
"Hmm?" she sighs, as though sleepily surprised that her company remained. Nyssa's muzzle curls into a smile as she lifts her head to see Kein through that gently woken bliss. "If you insist," she replies then, resting her head against his fore leg and rolling to her side. Her tail flicks once then lays as still as she, content to wait until the sun has warmed them both fully.
As Nyssa rests against him, Kein presses his nose gently against her neck and takes a deep breath. After breathing in her scent, he asks, "Did you sleep well?" This is not the first time they have woken up together, but this time it seems rather more pleasant. At least since he did not sleep too soundly, he was not the one who was surprised at finding himself in another's company upon waking.
"Pleasantly, Kein," Nyssa says, her voice a little stronger as she rouses further, glancing to one side in order to look at him while he speak. "You as well, I hope." He's still here, after all, and he doesn't seem to be disturbed. She watches him a moment and returns the nuzzle lightly before lifting her head again and yawning.
"Yes." Whether she would define Kein's sleep as restful, if she noticed any of the times he woke up, he's being sincere. "Yes, I slept well." As though his body decides now is the moment to argue with him, he finds himself taken by a yawn. After yawning, and with a hint of a smile, he says, "So well, in fact, that I think I should like to keep on doing it for the rest of the day." Ah, if only. It's a pleasant idea right now, but it would not be too much longer before he would feel driven to do something or another.
"And waste a beautiful sunrise?" Nyssa asks, turning her eyes to the pale pink dawn for a moment then back to the male. "Certainly not." She picks up her paw and lays it on top of one of his, keeping him quite well pinned. "When was the last time, Kein," she begins softly, purr tumbling out with her words, "that you slowed down to watch the world?" Rather than letting it push him along, kicking and screaming?
"Do I not see the sun rise most every day?" Actually, Kein has no idea how long it has been since he has just watched a sunrise, or perhaps one of his cubs or grandcubs, or really anything else. It is the sort of thing he used to do, yes, but... not in a good long while. It's not a pleasant thought, no, and for that reason, he tries to dismiss it, as he is not much in the mood to be serious. Why ruin a perfectly good mood with such seriousness? "I do suppose I could always watch you watching the sunrise, though. I don't believe I've ever seen that."
"No sunrise is ever the same--" Nyssa begins, though she stops with maw slightly parted and looks at Kein, then quickly back to the aforementioned sunrise. Surely the pink in her ears is from the sky. Amaranth's Chieftain is too serious, and he knows that, and it was a moment like that one, and the night before, the surprise the young female into embarrassed silence. It is not uncomfortable though, and after a while she clears her throat and tries a second time to look Kein in the eyes without shying away. "Well, now you can, if you'd like." Then she reaches out to touch her muzzle to her shoulder.
Kein is bold, and only getting bolder, when it comes to talking to Nyssa. And why shouldn't he be? Although he has always been faithful to Nayeli, he never promised monogamy. Indeed, there were times when he would not have been surprised if he had been expected to provide another with cubs. So perhaps Kein's interest in Nyssa is foolish, considering that she is considerably younger than Kein is. It doesn't much matter to him. For so long as she seems even the least bit receptive to his not-so-subtle and not-very-suave flirting, he is willing to allow himself to enjoy his fantasies without poisoning them with thoughts of how his relationship with his mate is falling apart. "Then you will have to watch them for me, and tell me what I've missed." After all, he has found something much more pleasant to watch than the rising sun, and after speaking, he rubs his nose against her before beginning to groom the fur on her neck.
'Well, I-' Nyssa doesn't even get through her thought let alone get the words to her mouth before they are silenced by Kein's own and his affectionate attention after. The female has never had any sort of relationship like this with a male before, only having relationships with other creatures that bordered on friendship but were merely acquaintances. Kein may not be subtle, but it is attention that Nyssa finds very new and to her liking. What would have been words turns to rich purrs, and finds herself leaning closer and enjoying the impromtu groom. 'I will miss the sunrise,' flashes in her mind but with a flick of her tail it is dismissed. There do seem to be nicer things than sunrises right now.
