Anu, female wolf
Tyr, male wolf
Not long until winter, now. Anu can feel it in the wind as it gallops through the trees and makes finding Tyr even more difficult. She can't keep track of any sort of trail with the wind changing direction and buffeting her around like this. Suddenly, the shewolf feels a sharp stab of loneliness. What if Tyr really has disappeared? She did relax her guard, after all. She would have snuck off, too, if she were him. But if he's gone, then that means she is truly alone. She can't go home without him, and she can't make her home here. After her encounter with the alpha a few suns ago, she feels she probably won't fit in around here. Taking a deep breath, the female pushes down her feelings of anxiety and focuses on picking up her brother's trail. There isn't any alternative.
He has stuck to the fringes of Ute since... since being warned in all too clearly stated terms, though that makes finding Anu all the more difficult. She couldn't have been foolish enough to delve deep into their lands on her own, then again, not knowing what passed before the spirit decided to interfere in their affairs she could have done anything to earn the ire of such a creature. He trots swiftly through the trees, the chill edge in the wind driving him on with a set jaw and crystal-steel eyes. It is loud as it gusts past his ears, a reminder of the warning that graced him not a day before. Then there is a dramatic shift in the wind that hits him square in the face and his eyes become alive with the fire of the hunt. "ANU!" he barks sharply, his voice just on the pale side of a howl, and he turns his body to face the direction where she should likely be.
Her name! Anu stops abruptly, every sense on full alert. That was Tyr, all right. She scans the area around her thoroughly, and comes face to face with her brother. "Tyr!" she calls, trying to hide her relief as she bounds over to him. A quick glance tells her that he is not hurt, or overly tired. He hasn't been fighing, nor has he traveled too far. Sigh. They were probably following each other in circles, knowing her luck. Well, he's here now, and that's what matters. Any other siblings might have nuzzled or pressed close, rejoicing in their reunion, but not these two. The shewolf stands stiffly nearby, braced against the wind. After a pause, she says, "Thought you could lose me, did you?"
The recognition on his face is brief and the speed with which a deep and serious look replaces it is almost imperceptible. He does not help her in her approach nor does he answer her question, though likely she wasn't anticipating an answer from that quip anyway. What does show is that fierceness behind his eyes, and it takes all of his concentrating in the heavy gale of wind around them to seat himself with his full attention focused on his sister."Y'are in serious danger," he warns, voice deep, low, and as unamused as his eyes.
"What've yer been doin' that Ah get a warnin' on yer life such as /that/?" Tyr demands an answer. Not that he will explain the meaning of his words, or the reason for the demand; let her learn.
Danger? Anu looks around them, ears swivelling and nose straining for signs of other wolves. Shifting from paw to paw, she finds nothing and fixes Tyr with a look similar to the one he's giving her. "Me? I've been looking for /you/. I haven't seen you for days. What am I supposed to think when you disappear, Tyr?" Because, clearly, all of this is his fault. They wouldn't be this far from home if not for him, after all. Her eyes narrow as his words finally register. "Who have you been talking to? The Ute alpha?" He didn't seem the type to react like that. He asked her to leave, ans she did without a fight. Maybe he's been spreading the word that she's not welcome inside the borders. Frustrating. If they're actively looking for her to keep her out, then Ute lands might prove a hospitable hiding place for her brother, and she can't have that.
"Ther wind tells me enough," Tyr responds coldly, knowing that there is more to the statement than Anu would realize. It is difficult not to scoff outright and Tyr proves it by doing so, though he is unwilling to remove the stare that he as affixed his sister with. "Jes' remember one thing, Anu. Yer not in Akh's lands anymore. Yer don' 'ave the backing of a pack t'defend the words that yer utter." Most importantly, though, "An' yer don' 'ave 'alf as much strength'er wisdom yer think y'ave." Cold and unforgiving words, perfect for cold and unforgiving creatures. Though his face is a mask, his chest aches deeply after he's spoken. Both brother and sister are whipped by strong winds and Tyr cannot help but flatten his ears. Either that spirit has followed him or this is just stupid coincidence.
Augh! There he goes again! Being /Tyr/. Not saying what he means, but hiding it with clever words. The wind told him? What's that supposed to mean? As her brother goes on to insult her, a low growl rumbles in her throat. All of this trouble she's supposedly in is /his/ fault. The only reason she doesn't have the pack to back her up is because of /him/. /He/ tore her away from everything they've grown up with, and now here they are. In strange lands with strange wolves and no one but each other - even then, only grudgingly. Anu responds with an indifferent, "Are you done? We should get out of this wind." She won't acknowledge his words. What does he know? Nothing. He thinks he understands her limits, her strengths and weaknesses, but he can't possibly know her better than she knows herself. He can't. He's just trying to weaken her resolve for whatever he's planning next, and she won't let that happen.
Tyr snorts, disgusted. Fine then, let whatever it is that haunt's, or protects, or serves, or whatevers Ute's lands find his sister and have its words with her. Perhaps then it will frighten her more into submission than he has failed to do today. As she fails to be impressed on, he fails to look impressed with her bold act of cruel carelessness. "Make yer own decisions," he retorts, then with a suddeness of pent up aggression stands and turns his back on her, stalking back the way he came, south, ready to continue his own forced march away from things. Maybe this time he will intentionally seek to leave Anu behind.
The wind howls, high and plaintive. She lets Tyr go a few steps before she lopes after him. Fine. No more talking, if that's what he wants, but he's not getting away from her so easily. She's not wasting more time chasing him down than she has to. The shewolf walks next to her brother, matching his pace. She's here, and that's not going to change anytime soon. Make her own decisions? Here's one. She's following him, no matter what. At least until he'll come home.
