After having the odd conversation with Winema the night before, Thrash left her to her bunny and started to head back to look for Kein, as opposed to Nayeli. He may find the chieftain in a more manageable mood. Unfortunately it seems that Nyana is out and about exploring as usual, so he can't bring her to him, but, there is time for that in the future. As he trots through the snow covered land, he lets out loud chuffs to the chilly air, signaling his approach in hopes the older cougar may hear him.
Describing Kein's mood as manageable is something of a joke. He has done his best to avoid everyone except Nyssa in the days since he told Nayeli of Nyssa's pregnancy. Once he speaks to Nayeli again, perhaps that will change. For the time being, though, Kein has very little patience, even less than normal. Still, he has tended to his duties. Securing the borders. Keeping an eye on the prey available. Currently, he is just approaching the southernmost border of the land.
As he spies Kein in the distance, Thrash's ears swivel upwards and he bounds through the snow towards him, trying to keep his paws out of the cold as much as he can until he can find a rock to settle on. Brr! Clearing his throat loudly, he offers up a quick smile. "Hey dad, got time to talk for a moment?" He asks as he rounds about to walk shoulder to shoulder with the Chief. "I got some news for you that you may find interesting."
Kein looks to Thrash only when the much younger male clears his throat. Upon spotting Thrash, he slows his pace, and when Thrash turns around to walk with him, he takes a deep breath. "So I'm 'dad' again, hmm?" It's actually something of a relief. One fewer cougar to argue with, anyway. "What is your news, Thrash?" So he lacks in patience, but at least the tone of his voice is not unpleasant.
Giving Kein a headbutt against the shoulder, Thrash says, "Yeah, you're still dad. Only father I've had in my life." He says with a grin on his face. "Got two things for you, three if telling you that winter is here." He says in an amused manner. "Two cougars are here. One is Nyana who was sent by her father to seek out another tribe to hopefully join and create harmony and peace between ours and theirs. She's really nice, respectful, and always looking to meet new faces and chat them up. We've become practically best friends lately, and I'd like for her to meet you and vouch for her to stay. I think she's a breath of fresh air." He pauses, then moves on, "The other is Winema who was sent here by the now extinct G'waii tribe, about three months travel. Supposedly she claims you and Nayeli are suffering from a spiritual mental illness and that is why you're at odds." He says with a scoff under his breath. "It appears her entire tribe was taken by this same illness and now she's here on a vision quest of sorts to find my brother, and to speak with Nayeli. She wouldn't tell me what she wants to tell Nayeli and she wouldn't tell me how she knows my brother outside that she dreamed about him."
Kein stops walking when Thrash begins to mention the newcomers to Amaranth. Oh, Kein is not ignorant. He has caught hints of unfamiliar scents. He is the last one who should be playing the part of Amaranth's welcoming party, though, and the fact that his tail is lashing simply with the idea of meeting these newcomers should show that well enough. "I don't much care to cater to other tribes, Thrash. If you believe Nyana means no harm... I'll trust that. As for the other one... Well, the same goes. If you think someone should meet them, let them meet Nayeli. Or one of my daughters." Either option is better, since the females all have more of a vested interest in the future members of Amaranth than Kein does, right?
"Well, it's just weird you know.. how she just kinda shows up with all these visions and talking about you and Nayeli being 'sick', and I just wonder if maybe if she starts running her mouth it'll do more harm than good here, you know what I mean? I don't want anyone to get further upset, or start to panic, or.." Thrash says with a squint of his eyes. "We need to talk anyways, you and I.. about the future of Amaranth." He finally lets out with a breath. "Are you leaving or are you staying? If you're leaving, I'm taking over." He says point blankly. "Cuz', someone has to lead, and this is the only home and family I've ever had and I don't want to see it fall apart."
Perhaps Kein does need to speak to this female, but it won't be today. No, today he'll be busy trying to keep his temper in control. He responds to Thrash's statement with a growl. "The future leadership of Amaranth is no concern of yours. The only thing you need to know is that I will die before I allow someone to break the matriarchal line of this tribe. Do you understand me?" This is not because of his loyalty to Nayeli, though there is still a modicum of loyalty there. Rather, it is due to his loyalty to Nayeli's ancestors. Not Ayashe so much, since he barely ever knew her, but Paoro's approval has always been important to him. Even when he has desired to cut all of his ties to this land.
"No, I don't understand you Kein. You hook up with a cougar that no one but you and I have met, and you decide to spend most of your days either off the lands, or barely here and to be honest, who else is running around getting food and protecting the borders full time? It's -me-." Thrash challenges without batting an eye. "And if you leave for greener grass then that is telling not only me, but everyone else here that Amaranth is no longer your concern or your home." He tenses a bit, eyes narrowing. "Amaranth is my concern because it is my home. I have respected your wishes since I have came here. I haven't 'spread my seed', I haven't upset anyone, and I've done everything I can to be a model son. I'm all you got left Kein. So, if you want to fight me, you better bring your best." He jerks his head upwards, holding himself proudly. "I love you dad, but I feel that my responsibility to the tribe outweighs anything else."
"Don't do it, then. I have never promised anyone here a full stomach. If they're to eat, it is their own responsibility." In times past, Kein has spent a lot of time hunting for others. Much like Thrash is now, apparently. It never got him enough appreciation to pay off. "Who I spend my /nights/ with is none of your concern either, Thrash. I have done my duty to this tribe, and I do it still. And /when/ one of my daughters becomes matron, and /if/ she accepts you as a mate, then I will allow it. Until then, you should think a lot longer before you say anything that makes me doubt whether it is still safe for you to be here, /son/." At no point does Kein's voice become any friendlier, but he does not approach Thrash to threaten him physically. He does, however, keep a close eye on the younger male.
"Of course I'm going to do it. It's winter and I'm strong and I have no problem providing food and safety for my family. It's what we should be doing, /both/ of us. Even Tantallon is hunting now and trying to help out. Helping each other is what a family does. It's how we become stronger as a whole." Thrash says with a loud snort under his breath. "What if you were to become sick, or if you broke your leg? Should the rest of us just let you starve because it is your /responsibility/ to get your own food? I am pretty sure you wouldn't want to starve." He narrows his eyes a bit more tighter. "If you think I'm a danger, then remove me, /dad/." He says with a rumble in his throat. "I'm just giving you the reality of the situation. You can live in denial all you want, it doesn't matter to me." He gives a toss of his head, then starts to move off, heading away from the older cougar. "Good night dad."
