www.wolfquest.org/It's not scheduled to come out until December, but it sounds promising nonetheless. Finally, a wildlife game that seems to be propelling right along (versus Changamko, a TLK-based 3D game whose production has slowed to a halt) and has 3D graphics (unlike the 2D Wolfhome, and the older DOS games Wolf and Lion). Granted, it only advertises "3 hours of gameplay", which seems a little low, and you can't have pups until the expansion pack which won't be released for another year, but it does advertise a multiplayer version (up to 4 players) and the FAQ says it'll be a free downloadable game - I can only hope they'll look into allowing more characters in the multiplayer expansion pack, because then we could occasionally take the pack RPs here and play them out in 3D! I'll certainly be keeping an eye on it.

Okay... that?
That?
That looks so awesome. Seriously. It looks slick from the one little screenshot I can see there. I can't wait for it to tidy up! ;D

The demo comes out tomorrow! I'm so excited ^^ Anyway, since I'm sure (well, I hope) I'm not the only one wanting to have Meadows RPs on the game when it's released (the FAQ says you'll be able to form a pack of up to 4 with friends), I figured we could also use this as an 'information' thread - we can share our character names, organize mini-RPs on WQ for a change from textual to visual scenes (although they decided not to allow 'chat' in the game, so we can't actually have posed scenes while playing ), etc. I'll probably be making Haze for the multiplayer part, but I can't say for sure yet. ^^

So ... anyone else having fun chasing rabbits, scaring yotes, wrestling elk and whining that you can't get the wolves to pack with you in the demo?

Soooooo I try to run the demo, and it downloads and everything, but when I try to launch it's all like "The color settings on your system are not adequate for running Wolf Quest" and I'm like ... wtf? Anyone know what's wrong? I tried adjusting but to no avail..

So ... anyone else having fun chasing rabbits, scaring yotes, wrestling elk and whining that you can't get the wolves to pack with you in the demo? I sure am. Also, I happened to discover a bit of a glitch by accident, that allowed me to create a bit of a super wolf(really high strength, speed, and stamina). Thus my Armageddon Wolf(ironically named Rook) commenced with the mass slaughter of everything that moved. XD Unendingly fun, but I hope they fix that for the full version.

Seems a lot of folk have discovered that glitch. I've actually found creating a female wolf with low strength but high stamina generally works very well, even for hunting elk. (Not using the glitch) Its too bad you can't pack up with the two wolves.

Yeah, I figured I wasn't the only one. It's a pretty easy glitch to get. And I agree about the other wolves. There wasn't a whole lot to do with them, aside from getting chased away or scaring them off. The interaction thing is pretty interesting, though. I can hardly wait to play this with other people.

I think Asrohc meant your screen color depth settings, usually one of 256 color, 16 bit, 24 bit or 32 bit. Yeah, those. Assuming you run Windows, Miakoda: Right-click on your desktop and select 'Properties' from the bottom of the menu. The rightmost tab, 'Settings', has the screen color settings, under 'Color Quality' or something similar. I don't know what the game requires, but 24 will usually do. Otherwise, set it as high as it'll go (if it isn't already) and see what happens. If you don't have Windows, I imagine one of the Mac-savvy people around here can provide instructions. Otherwise, I can find out how to do the same thing there. If this doesn't fix it, then I don't know what to do about that error. This is the only thing I can think of for 'color settings'.

Awesome, however, questions:
This could simply be my inexperience with the game itself, but I'm a little confused. The single player game's main quest is, apparently, to find a mate. Sounds easy enough. Well, the only other wolves I can find are in the established pack territories and it's usually two wolves per pack (they're usually right smack dab in the middle of the territory circle; look for a spring of purple/pink flowers or listen for the music changes, and it only ever seems to alternate between one female and one male).
Now, in the social interaction menu, I've tried just about every option availible, from staying put, being submissive, and being dominant, each option ending with the other wolf's retreat. Nowhere have I seen an option for relationship development, and I suppose this means I haven't found the right wolf (poor, poor Echo, he's so lonely). Are you supposed to look for a mate in established pack territory, or try to find a lone wolf somewhere else on the grid?
I think that's my major question. I did all the troubleshooting by, gasp, reading the manual.

Nico, the answer's probably on the forums somewhere, but they won't be back up until the 26th. EDIT: hereIn the meantime, play multiplayer mode with up to 4 others. XD I've got Haze! I figure for those of us wanting to play together at random times, people can just join/start a private room called Meadows with the password 'muck'.

Well, I found out what you need to do in single player!
You need to look for another 'dispersal' wolf (i.e. a wolf like yourself who is not part of a pack), and act friendly towards them. One they become your mate, the quest ends, although you can still wander around the area.
Also! I found some experience gains I thought I'd share:
Rabbit: 10 points Coyote: 25 points Elk: 100 points
I don't know yet if these points are split up among multiplayers, since apparently I can't connect to Curiousity's computer. If, at any point, you see an open game 'Lazuli' with the leader 'Echo' that would be me. Try and give it a shot to connect and let me know if you can't, that way I can try and troubleshoot what's wrong with my end (and no, it's not the firewalls or anything, since I've disabled them to play).

Hm, so where precisely are these dispersal wolves at? Are they wandering around in random places, or is there a specific area they tend to be in?

Well, the one I found was in a pack territory, and she showed up where the pack wolves tended to (i.e. smack dab in the middle of the territory at the intersection of all the scent routes). It took a while to find one, I didn't find her at all the first time I played, but when I loaded my save game I found her almost immediately. Just keep checking the center of each territory (as far as I can tell).
