Kachina (f. cougar cub)
Anoki (m. wolf pup)
With the den getting blocked over with logs once more Kachina attempts to scramble up to her paws and get to it to try and escape once more. Though the cub doesn't get too far and is stopped because of the logs and claws out at them a few times. "Let me out!" Is heard if any care to listen. A few more swipes to the logs before the cub drops back to her haunches, her form shaking as she isn't sure what to do now.
From the back of the small den comes a soft mumble: "Be quiet, or the bad things will hear you." Anoki makes his presence known not with a bang but a whimper; the little pup was tossed into the den the night before and after an endless bout of 'whys' and 'whats' and 'whos', was unceremoniously shooed into a corner, and told to take a nap. But he couldn't sleep. He could feel something.. wrong here. There were no spirits here, was the problem. None of the kind things that sometimes came to him on lazy sunny days while he dozed, like butterflies that had stayed too long in winter, or mice who'd fallen prey to the occasional weasel or mink. There was nothing but -- "And then they'll want to eat you, like the big black birds."
Kachina eyes the entrance of the den madly and claws out at it again as if it will help anything. Though at the sudden whisper she turns about, head low and eyes blinking until she catches sight of the other within the den. She sniffs out a few times before slowly starting to creep forward. "Wh..What bad things?" There's a pause. "What black birds?" She's confused to say the least. An while she might agree later that this plays 'feels' wrong, like something is missing it doesn't dawn on her at the moment.
Ears twitch, and Anokie crawls out of his little hideyhole, toward the cougar cub. She looks sorta like the cat thing he followed the other day.. which makes him wary of her. But she's also about his size, so he imagines, yeah, he could take her, sure. "There are this big black birds, and they eat things. They're really scary. The hare I met said they ate her alive! ... But hare tastes kinda yucky so I guess maybe those birds like yucky things." He frowns, then says, softly, "... There are bad things around here. I can feel them. They keep the good things away, the friendly things like butterflies and moosies." he says, softly. "And if you try to leave, the big black birds will get you.. That's what the cat thing said.."
Kachina pulls her head back while she watches as the wolf pup moves towards her. "What are you.. Never seen anything like you before." Its not like cougars and wolves tend to be friends after all. Though she grows quiet as the other goes on explaining what he means and she just blinks. "Why would birds eat a hare alive?" The little cougar is just getting use to the idea that there are some things that aren't seeable to everyone else, like her little sparrow friend that she met back near the tree she calls home. She swallows at the talk of the big black birds will get her if she tries to leave. "The big brown bird didn't say that.. He said he wouldn't be nice if I tryed to leave.."
"Birds," Anoki decides, "Are all evil and mean." His ears lay back in a bit of a droop, as he flops to his stomach again. "An' I'm a woof. We eat things not get eated! But I'm worried I might get eated here," he says, with a sniff of noise. "... I wish my sister was here! She'd make things better! ... Maybe... unless the wind is calling our names... I hope it's not... I can't hear the wind, but she can.."
Kachina glances back towards the entrance of the den eyeing it a few moments before she hunkers down where she is, head settled upon the ground. "A woof?.. Never seen a woof before.." Her ears lower and she frowns slightly. "I miss my brother and mom.. I want to go home and see them and my little bird friend." There's a pause. "Not all birds are mean.. I have a little bird friend.. But his.." There's a pause and she half chews on her lip. "His dead tho. My mom don't believe me though." A glance is offered to the pup. "Why you get eated here?"
"... C'os of the bad things," Anoki says, with a sigh, before she mentions mom, and.. he cringes a bit, and whines. "... I wanna see my mom before the wind takes her away," he moans softly, into the dirt a little. "My sister said it's calling her name and she's going to go be with the wind, like all our ancestors." He sighs again woefully, then mumbles, "you got a brother? I got a sister. She likes GRASS. She's always saying that. GRASS. She's the GRASS QUEEN." He smiles a little, tail wagging slightly at the thought of his younger sister. "And my older sister is very nice. But she's very sad."
Kachina peers at Anoki at the talk about the wind. "Why would your mom go and be with the wind?" She seems rather confused by this. "My pa is missing.. He not come home for days and days." There's a pause. "Did the wind take him like the bird took me?" A faint nod is seen. "Yes I have a brother.." There's a pause and she frowns a moment. "His gona be sad with me and pa gone.."
Ears lay back. If her dad is gone with the wind... Anoki moves to sit up and creeps closer to her, venturing to lick her gently about the cheek, as he murmurs, "... It's because she's sick. And if your daddy is with the wind, it means he can't ever come back unless he's a ghost," he frowns, "Same as my momma." He sighs, shaking his head. "And I hope your brother an' mom will be okay witoutcha. I'm sure we can figure some way out.. maybe we can uhm.. Dig out. I'm an awesome digger!" ... not really, but, Anoki. Pup of Big Dreams.
Kachina watches as the other moves closer to her and she looks rather confused to say the least. "With the wind means there not coming back?" She is rather sure that she doesn't like that idea. Her ears lower and she tilts her head away at the lick and lets her chin press down against her forepaw. She's quiet for a few moments, deciding after she has the moments to think that she won't believe that unless she sees her father like the sparrow. "I'm sorry bout your mom.." Her gaze soon shift over the den, maw twitching at the talk of digging out. "But.. What about the birds?.."
"... I guess it's okay, c'os I still got daddy," Murmurs the pup, "But ... I miss her already even if she's not gone yet. She's really sick... And daddy might go away with her because he loves her so much." He frowns, and sighs, and then considers. "Well if we dig, the birds can't dig after us, right? I mean, birdies can't dig, all they got is wings, no paws at all!" he grins a little, but is obviously not sure what to say elsewise.
Kachina frowns as she listens to the other. "I'm sorry.." She offers with a soft tone at the talk of possibly losing both parents. At least she still has her mother. A soft oh escapes her at the talk of birds not being ever to dig. "Well.. Its worth a try.." She looks around the den once more. "Where should we start to dig?"
"Somewhere in the back where the cat and the big bird won't see us," Anoki says, thoughtfully, standing and plodding back to where he'd been curled up before. He sniffs around, then begins trying to dig at the earth there slowly. "And we should dig like, only when they're not here, and find some place to put the dirt.. c'os like, maybe they might see the dirt and figure out we're digging." One thing he learned from his uncle Tariro and his cousin rockfall; NEVER let there be /evidence/.
Kachina shifts on her paws and moves after the wolf pups peering at the area where he was before. A soft snuffle escaping her in the process. "Ok.. But where we hide the dirt?" She glances around the den. "Not like we got a place to really hide it after all.." This pointed out while pawing at the ground a few times.
... Ears lay back as Anoki thinks about this, then says, thoughtfully, "We'll make beds of it. Just... pile it over there," he points to another corner of the burrow, adding, "And if they ask, we say we wanted to play in mud." He grins cunningly! Tail wagging, as he smiles... then adds, ".. And I guess maybe we could say we also wanted to bury our oopsies or something." He frowns, though, as another thought occurs: "... Did they give you anything to eat when you got stuck here? I didn't see.."
Kachina blinks at this and hums while glancing around the and nods at the thought. "Alright.. Sounds like a good idea." Well at least they sorta have a plan now, perhaps. His ears perk and she smirks at the oopsies comment. "No, they didn't give me anything to eat." Her gaze turns to the entrance of the den and she licks across her maw. "I hope they will soon.."
Ears lay back, and the pup frowns. "... Well if we find any like, wormies or buggies while we dig, we could eat those. It'd be... something, I guess," The pup says softly, as he continues trying to dig. It's not the best effort in the world, but it's an effort, which is more than one could sya of not doing anything! .
Kachina shifts forward and moves over to where Anoki is and works on helping him starting to dig into the ground. "Ya.. I guess so.." She offers softly at the thought, she makes a face and sputters slightly. Eating bugs isn't at the top of her list but she would if she needed to. As for digging she'll do her best but she isn't know for being a good digger.
