Rye - Male Coyote (Elder)
Bristlecone - Male Coyote
Satinka - Female Coyote
Adao - Male Fox (Elder)
Felix - Male Fox
Helaku - Male Wolf
----
Rye
Rye pads down from the north, having explored that way, it does take him a little longer, but he's doing okay. He arrives and looks around for who might be up, before heading to over to the river for a drink.
Helaku
The Merging Tributary. It was a place he hadn't been in seasons. The last encounter he had of this place was with the very wolf he had despised in his younger days. But, it was also the same place a kind wolf spoke to him. The strange, snow-eyed wolf sat on the bank across from the approaching coyote, his focus on those bygone days as he watched the sun seep through the trees. He'd manage to keep a rather low profile, just as father would have taught him, though the behaviorisms of his birthpack were driven out by more recent experiences. The sash tied to him by a human fluttered in a stray wind, his fur dim in its shimmer. Was it really that long ago? To him, it was as if time had frozen him in a solid state while everything shifted.
Bristlecone
Bristlecone lopes along slowly from upriver. None of the strange scents he's smelled around there have entered his territory... yet... but he's still starting to wonder what's going on. That means he's paying more attention than usual to what lurks around in the trees. So he notices not only his father, heading to the river, but a hint of someone else across from him. His steps slow, and he drifts closer, looking curiously at this stranger who's come visiting. It was only a matter of time...
Satinka
Satinka is laying down in front of the den and smiles as she sees Rye and her son. She also notices the wolf and wonders what the wolf is doing in the area. Then does a double take at the wolf as she sees something that should not be on the wolf and wonders how that strange thing got on the wolf.
Rye
Rye flicks his ears around, thinking he's hearing things, but he turns when he catches his mate over by the den, he pads over. "Evening." Glancing to where she looks. "Ahhh, Bristlecone, how are you this evening?" He hasn't noticed the wolf quite yet, as he is focused on his son. It does show something, as the yote would have probably noticed easier in the past
Helaku
Helaku remained to himself, though his ears took notice of motions and words. He understood their conversation but paid it no mind for he was concerned with himself for now. If he was addressed, he would answer. If not, then he wouldn't. The last time he lived here, the coyotes were not embedded and time changed things just as it had for the Ute. By no means would he leave only because of change. Things were more peaceful here than before, or so that was his perception. He had to give credit to the coyotes. Their mannerisms of speech were better suited to his tastes than other wolves. And then he took a drink.
Bristlecone
Bristlecone nods to his father. "I'm all right," he says. "Seems like things are stirring, around here..." He turns his head to indicate across the water, assuming his father will have already noticed. "Who's your visitor?"
Satinka
Satinka smiles over at Rye and stands up and stretchs and then nuzzles him. "Hi hnadsome. So how are you doing tonight?" Then gives a nuzzle to her son. "How are you doing tonight?" Then looks over at the wolf. "Well it looks like are son is right. We seem to have a visitor."
Rye
Rye nuzzles and then nods, "Things are always stiring, and changing like the seasons." a little of the old yotes philosphy. he turns over to the paled fur wolf. "Well met brother." he calls out, greeting the wolf. Sure there could be a pack around, but something about the wolf, maybe it's the scarf. He knows what that is, because of when he was really young, but no sence in mentioning it.
Helaku
Brother. That is what he liked about coyotes. They lacked the typical wolf mentality of 'who are you' and 'why are you here' which eventually led to 'you've mated with every female in the pack?' Not that Helaku had ever achieved such notoriety or caused such anxiety, which would surely have been a lack of propriety. He set upon Rye his white eyes, curious in this one. "If only wolves could speak that which you speak," he answered. "I've one coyote in my paternal ancestry several generations behind."
Bristlecone
Bristlecone laughs. "I suppose," he says to his father. But what are they changing to? He smiles, and noses back at his mother. "I'm all right," he tells her, his tail gently swaying. "Just been exploring a bit. There are quite a few new scents around..." Speaking of. He turns, and looks again at the unknown wolf, listening to his greeting. "I've got quite a few coyotes in mine!" he replies with a laugh. "But no wolves." Unless, of course, his parents have been keeping secrets!
Adao
Adao stifly and with a considerable amount of effort the old fox makes his way to the fork of the river. He has been traveling along the river for weeks on what at this point in time is seeming a bit like a fools errand. But he can't let that stop him, he has to press onward. As he approaches the fork in the river he notes both the sounds and smells of a rather sizable group of animals. Perhaps one of these will be able to point him in the proper direction, "Hello." he says in an ancient and cracked voice. He dare not risk wandering in unnanounced.
Satinka
Satinka is looking over at the wolf and nods at him. "Well greetings and it is a pleasure to meet you. My name is Satinka." The gets distracted as an elder fox comes into the area. She looks over at the fox. "Hi there." Then looks back at Rye and Bristlecone. "We have another visitor. Then jokingly says to Rye. "Did you put out some invitations handsome?" Then giggles some.
Rye
Rye chuckles some, "well, that makes you a closer brother than others, but I do greet all of us that way until I have a name. We are pretty much all brothers, wolves, yotes, and even foxes." he motions to the newcomer. "I do understand what you mean by the way wolves are." he's seen that strict structure. he does have to laugh when his son gives his response. "No, Bristle, you're all coyote." He toes turn his muzzle a little to nod to the newcomer, "welcome to you as well brother." he chuckles, "Well, Satinka, sometimes I think I do."
Helaku
The welcome given by the coyote was unusual for Helaku, but a very welcome greeting. He didn't move from his spot as it was improper, but a nice conversation was to be had here. Helaku wasn't one to smile much or give so many gestures due to his upbringing, but he was tempted to smile in return. "And dogs too," answered Helaku, "though most wolves would not speak as such."
Bristlecone
Bristlecone glances over to the approaching fox, and gives a nod of greeting, as well as a chuckle for his father's answer to him. At Helaku's comment, his head turns quickly that way. "Nothing wrong with dogs," he says firmly. "Nothing at all." One might almost think he has some personal reference for that comment!
Adao
Adao comes a bit closer to group. The greeting of the coyote and the others was very generous and he decides that the greeting was generous enough that he can sink to the ground to rest, which he does when he gets within sufficent space of the rest of the group, "Thank you...its is most appreciated." He takes a few moments to catch his breath before looking around the group. Yes indeed this is an odd assortment.
Satinka
Satinka looks over at Rye and rubs up against him. "Well I think some of you rubbed off on me since I did invite a swan to stay here whenever she needed to rest up." Then looks over at the wolf and nods. Then over to her son. "Yes some dogs are nice to be around." As she stands up and stretchs some then sits back down. As she then wonders what brung the wolf and the fox into the area.
Rye
Rye chuckles, "No, wolves don't like to admit a lot of different relationships." He then motions, "well, you are welcome here at this little haven I've created." he might have to ask at some point, but not with all the others around, the wolf might be sensitive as to why there's a scarf. he chuckles to his son again. "No, you have a good reason to say that." To the fox, "what brings you by this area?"
Helaku
What brought him here? Nothing did. He happened to be in the area, roaming old haunts...not that they would know that. "I am a roamer," he said. "I've a few...ties...to those departed of these parts. Wolf packs and I never seemed to have...mixed."
Bristlecone
Bristlecone nods, listening. "We haven't had many wolves come around here. Mostly they just stay off to the north.. or south. I suppose this river is their border..."
Adao
Adao has had a few moments to to catch his breath. He has been walking for most of the day and doesn't know how much further he could go before he would drop from exhaustion, "I'm searching for a healer." he said, "I come from the south...pestilence has spread and we are in dire need of help." There is more to the story, but he wouldn't want to burden them with this information all at once.
Felix
Felix can't believe he has put off his own important task for this long, but finally, enough is enough, as he strolls out of his den in a businesslike pace.
Satinka
Satinka looks around the place as she listens to all of the conversations. Then looks over at Rye. "We do know a healer right? I wonder though if this healer would help him?" As she tries to think and remember the name and then wonders if it Niabi the elk that does not seem to like her." Then looks over and smiles as she sees Felix. "Good evening Felix. How are you doing tonight?"
Rye
Rye ponders, "Have we met before, friend wolf?" He knows there was some wolves around here before he took over the area. He quickly turns to the fox. "This isn't like that pestilence from so many years ago?" he asks, having lived through that, but it's been a long time. since that happened.
Helaku
If they had met before was a possibility, however very unlikely as Helaku didn't meet too many coyotes. Many more than he could name all the same. The wolf remained perfectly still even in friendly conversation though the other fox appearing and bringing word of illness did sway one ear. "We have not," he answered. "I am called Helaku."
Bristlecone
Sickness? That doesn't sound good! Bristlecone shakes his head at Adao's statement. "What sort of help do you need? I mean... helping's good, but just getting sick ourselves wouldn't do /anybody/ any good." He glances to his parents, a little anxious, then back to Helaku. "I'm Bristlecone," he mentions, with a little nice-to-meet-you nod.
Adao
dao sighs to himself, this has been the general reaction that he has been getting from every group of animals that he has met on the trip up north. Its a mix of genuine concern, fear and in some cases he has been run out of various groupings for fear that he himself might carry the plague with him, "I certainly understand young one. I have no desire to see anyone else fall victim to this illness. It started off with the smaller animals and seems to be slowly working its way into the larger ones. The foxes of begun to fall prey only recently...but there have been many deaths. I was sent to find a healer, specifically a healer of some renown, though at this point I wonder if he isn't something of a myth."
Felix
"Okay, um, everybody, I shouldn't have waited to tell you this, but... I'm going on a journey..." Felix says finally.
Satinka
Satinka looks around the place and over to Adao and nods to hin, "I am called Satinka." Then looks back over at Rye. "Hmm a he. Well then it is not the healer I was thinking of. Since the only healer I know of is a she." Then looks over at the wolf. "It is a pleasure to meet you Helaku." Then looks over at Felix. "Well we are going to miss you a lot. Also be careful and be on the lookout for wolves since some wolves are not very friendly at all."
Rye
Rye nods, "I am Rye." he then has to deal with the fox.. "The sickness, what is it like, can you describe it?" Felix's grandfather was affected by that one. Wait, what did... "Wait, what did you say?" he says to felix.
Helaku
This was a place crowded, and too many conversations at once. With the news of the disease, the instincts for self-preservation immediately emerged in Helaku's mind. Silently, he receded into the foliage, gone with the wind while they were occupied by the newcomer fox and the departing fox. He had no business getting involved with animals searching for cures for disease, unlike his father. Risking his own life to protect someone? Sure. Risking it at the chance of catching an illness? Forget it.
Bristlecone
Bristlecone nods to Adao. "I don't know any healers..." he says to the elderly fox. Perhaps he'd say more - but then he gets completely distracted entirely by Felix's comment. "What?!" he says, with an expression of shock. "Where are you going? Why now? What's all this about?" He's grown up with Felix around, after all... what's his friend gotta go and run off for? He's so involved with that, he doesn't even notice Helaku slipping off.
Adao
Adao has described the illness many times for others and so has the list of symptoms quite memorized by this point in time, "It seems to first affect the victims breathing. This difficulty at first seems very similar to other common ailments. Then it progresses and the victem is seized by a violent fever. They are exceedly warm to the touch. After this comes a sleep from which no one can wake them and then death follows quickly. We have not been able to find a cure of any kind. Everyone who has contracted it so far is dead within days." He too has difficulty following all of the events going on here. This could be due more to tiredness and age rather than anything else.
Felix
"To the south. I heard there was a big fire, and I wish to see if there are any survivors and help them if I can." Felix says, "Also... I recieved a warning... about a boar..."
Satinka
Satinka looks over at Felix and blinks some. "Um Adao came from the south and he says there is a bad pestilence down there." Then looks over at Adao and tilts her head. "Is there a fire in the south too?" Then looks over at Rye. "Hmm I sure hope Felix does not get the sickness down in the south and what would that vixen that seems to like him say when she finds out he left to go south." As she tne wonders would warned Felix about a boar since she has not seen Yoki or Lucido in the area or even Aolani the swan.
Rye
Rye suddenly closes his eyes and listens around to something he's hearing. "Fire in the south... and then this... Hmm, they are related." He asks. "They have to be." He tries to remember back to his youth, when the white two leggers came to the old ones. There was sickness that followed them as well.
Bristlecone
The south? But... "That's where the sickness is from!" says Bristlecone. That's where Adao said, right? He glances to the old fox, worriedly, and at his mother, then back to his friend. "What are you going to do about all that? Better to help look for the healer, first, if you want to help." He shakes his head, and paces back and forth a few steps, then turns his head to Adao. "What do you know about this legendary healer? Who is he? How is he known?"
Adao
Adao does not wish to bring this ill news upon any group, but he was sent on a mission and he is going to try to fullfill it as best as he can. He is disturbed to hear of the fire, this was something that he was not aware of, "I was not aware of the fire, but is that is true then things are worse than they were when I left." he said in regard to Satinka. He then turns his attention to Bristlecone, "I do not know his name, no one from my clan does. We know only of the stories that we have heard. Amazing things. There are some to the south who claim to have met him, even recently, they say he was last seen going north which is why I came this way. They describe him as a middle aged fox. No one that I have met will give me his name." He then turns his attention to Felix, "I appreciate your zeal to help, but I believe your friend is right. You could do nothing to help."
Felix
Felix looks at the older fox, then he looks at Rye. "But... to help... I... I must!"
Satinka
Satinka hears that the healer is a middle age fox. Then looks over at Rye. "Hmm I wonder if Niabi would know of this middle age fox that is a healer?" Then looks over at Felix. "So do you know how to fight a fire or cure a pestilence? Also what about that female vixen that likes you?" As she tries to remember her name. Then looks over at Adao. "Well I do not know of any middle age fox healer unfortuntely but Rye might know of the fox but I could be wrong." Then looks over at her son and smiles as he tries to convince his friend not to go.
Rye
"Middle aged fox. I know most of the foxes around here. I will have to find who this fox is for you. You need to spread the word more." He then turns to his son and, well adopted son. "Felix, Bristle, you two should help our new friend here. The best way to help will be to find this healer.. to help get the healing that is needed down there. Then go down there. If I was your age, I would help, in fact I did, many years ago. There was a search, this was for a different healing. And, Bristle, you can't let Felix go on his own. He is too much like his grandpa, and that means he needs a yote to take care of him." he smiles warmly to his son. He looks to satinka, "we'll stay here and keep an eye out for this person."
Bristlecone
Bristlecone shakes his head as Adao describes vague legends, too unclear to follow. "Probably Braxton," he says, with a little snort. After all, Felix's grandfather was famous for everything else! He looks at the young fox anxiously, not really expecting sense to have much effect on him. It never has before! If Felix did the sensible thing, Bristlecone never would have had to learn how to climb trees. And many other things besides. "You have to use your head. Don't just rush in... haven't you been getting all those lessons in listening and thinking?" He nods to his father. "See?" he says to Felix.
Adao
Adao didn't really expect anyone here to know the healer. He has been going through this for weeks and has yet to turn up meaningful results. Still when you are in the middle of a crisis you can't let that stop you, though certainly he doesn't have the energy he once did. If only he was younger it would be so much easier. His ears perk a bit when he hears a name mentioned, "Braxton?" That doesn't sound very much like a legendary hearlers name, but at this point if he could find him he wouldn't care what he was called. Still this is one of the more polite groups that he has come across.
Felix
And yet reason prevails! Felix stops and looks defeated. "I have no way to help."
Bristlecone
Bristlecone pads over and noses at Felix. "Maybe there's something. We'll keep an ear out, see what's going on. Maybe we can find that healer..." he says. "Or maybe there's something else we can do." He pauses a moment, then huhs as he remembers something from earlier. "What was that about a boar, anyway?"
Adao
Adao settles his head on his paws. He certainly hopes that they can find the healer, if not he will be shortly forced to continue this journey, and he is already so tired. He finds his eyes begining to close on him against his will, "Thank you for your assitance." he manages to say before he falls quite asleep.
Satinka
Satinka looks over at Felix and Bristlecone. "Well like Rye said you can help by also trying to find this healer that he is looking for. Rye and me will stay here just in case that fox comes this way." Then looks over and sees Adao has fallen asleep.
Felix
"The boar. I talked to three survivors and they report their stallion was killed by a boar." Felix says.
Bristlecone
Bristlecone considers on that for a moment, and then shakes his head. "Well, we'll think on that as well, then. For now... I think the old guy has the right idea. Let's get some rest, and we'll figure out what to do in the morning."
Bristlecone - Male Coyote
Satinka - Female Coyote
Adao - Male Fox (Elder)
Felix - Male Fox
Helaku - Male Wolf
