"Maybe you scared them away," Wachiwa murmurs, at Asku's back, as her ears twitch, and she fails to detect any other sound. Though of course then she remembers, 'oh wait, we're wolves!' and cocks her head a little, trying to catch big whiffs of the air about them by snorting with her nose a little.

Asku cants one ear back at Wachiwa listening to her as the other ear attempts to track Hinto's deliberate noise making. He shakes his head at his friend then, "No Chewy they are still there..." Now Asku begins to pad closer to the sound his hackles raising and an actual dangerous tone entering his voice as he snarls pointedly.
"...and if they want to continue breathing they had better show themselves now! Your actions intruder are leaving me no choice but to surmise you are a threat!" He lowers his head and spreads his forepaws, Askuwheteau was truly about to attack. His upper lips rippling back to reveal his fangs, "...This is your final warning. If you remain hidden I will be perfectly justified in ripping out your throat to ensure the safety of my friend."

Hinto is quite sure Asku wouldn't actually rip out the throat of an old playful wolf, and as he continues his flight about them, he makes a little more noise going behind one tree, and finally sneaks behind yet another, this time taking care not to be heard.
Confusion is a good part of hunting. Being able to clear your way past it is simple wisdom.

Ears twitch, and Wachiwa ends up frozen, head lifted, listening, as she catches sounds about her. Her nose is once more carried upward to try and catch scents.. and all she can catch for the time being is that something is rustling the trees. When one tree crackles especially loud, she turns toward the one Hinto was just in.. and trots that way curiously, murmuring, "It can't be someone too big or strong if they're moving this fast. Maybe it's just a really big rabbit or something."

Askuwheteau however would attack an intruder without hesitation, and Hinto's refusal to identify himself coupled by his bestfriend padding in that direction leaves him thinking that this situation will not continue as it is.
As Wachiwa pads toward the brush Asku races past her snarling viciously, fangs bared as he charges the place Hinto has hidden himself. He doesn't race straight in though, instead he intentionally slides to the side trying to get a view of his enemy before tearing into whomever it is that is spying on he and his best friend. The look in Asku's eyes says it clearly...Hinto was wrong...the younger male fully intended to rip whoever was intruding on his pack's lands and his talk with his bestfriend to shreds.
When he finds that his enemy has slipped from the last place he had heard them he lowers his nose to the ground and begins scenting for them, Asku was indeed hunting their eavesdropper, that is until he catches the scent and his hackles go down. However he is far from calm as his head comes up he snaps out a name crisply, "Hinto! Show yourself now!" It wasn't a request, Askuwheteau was ANGRY at the older wolf Clearly he did not find Hinto's little game at all amusing.
"What do you think you are playing at old wolf?! I know it's you I have your scent! I demand an explanation!"

Well, game over.
Hinto knows that once they have his scent he's pretty much caught, even if he were to sneak off, they know where he lives, and he'd just make a 'bad' situation 'worse.' He steps out, though, not with an apologetic expression, or with words of regret, but with a grin. He's still pretty certain Asku wouldn't try to kill him for this.
"An explanation? For why I am out here, no doubt." Hinto says, stalling for his own amusement. But seeing that Asku isn't getting any happier, continues, "Relax, I wasn't eavesdropping, I was just making sure youth wouldn't be youth and get to trouble this close to the outside of our territory. The sneaking around and play was for my own amusement, however. Helped me feel young again."

Eyes widen some as Hinto slips into view and she finds herself confronting him face to face with Asku there. She looks from Hinto, to Asku, and back, and then bubbles a giggle softly.
"Oh, Asku, he's just being silly, and there was no harm done, you know?" She smiles, and steps forward to nose at her friend's shoulder, before looking at Hinto with a smirk. "Helped you feel young again? Shouldn't you go do such things with puppies, Hinto, not with younger adults on patrol?" She teases slightly, before she remembers Asku's words and murmurs: "There have been intruders in our lands, Hinto, that's why Asku's so on edge. I'm sure he can see this was just a bit of fun on your part, and a bit of 'wrong place wrong time', too, huh?" She looks over to Asku with a smirk.
"No need to bite each other over silly things!"

Askuwheteau is indeed calmed by Hinto's willingness to come out, and Wachiwa's nosing of his shoulder. But he does not smile. He sighs and rubs his forehead with one paw as he sits down and looks at Hinto with a frown, "Hinto, You are my elder and a part of my pack, and I love you. I want you to know that. The same way i love my brother or my father or any other wolf or she-wolf in our pack. I consider you to be family. But sometimes..."
Asku halts now, choosing his words carefully before speaking again, he didn't want to sound as if he were scolding the older male, especially in front of Wachiwa.
"I sometimes wish my family used their heads a bit more and thought about how they make situations appear. Hinto look at it from my perspective. Chewy is right, we have had some border breaches. Snow for one. But the difference here was that even Snow showed herself, apologized for breaking our borders, and let me know when I met her that she meant no harm."
He then gestures around, "This? This was different, Chewy may be a capable she-wolf the equal of any other she-wolf or male wolf out there, just as I feel I am a match for any wolf my size. But it's only us two out here, and while talking we suddenly discover someone is hiding nearby, and not just hiding but trying to circumvent us. Circling us, refusing even to call out and answer us. How do you think that looked? It did not look like play. If I thought Wachiwa..." Here he paused again and his ears flushed slightly before he continued.
"...If I thought Wachiwa was genuinely in danger I would rip any intruder to shreds, as I'm sure she would for me if she thought someone was about to hurt me. I never mind playing games with you Hinto, just next time...next time try to be a little more sensible about how you play, OK?"

Hinto doesn't seem to have his spirits dented by being yelled at by the youngster. Amd he still has that grin on his face. Who knows what he is thinking? After several moments of just watching the two, he finally explains exactly what the heck he was there for.
"Two young ones out this close to the border who like each other this much talking doesn't exactly make for a well-protected border *or* well-protected young ones. I was actually keeping an eye on you to make sure you would stay safe. I heard enough about the border crossings. I knew if anyone wanted to try something you two just made yourselves excellent targets like that." Hinto explains. He's not a dud, he's got plenty of experience, after all, even if idealism is setting into his old age. "Sure, the thought you could 'rip any intruder to shreds' is a nice one, unless the intruder is a cougar or a bear or a wolf far more experienced than you. The last part of what I did..." Well, Hinto can't help but chuckle...
"That was mostly for my own amusement. But nice to know you're in the right mindset."

With a sigh, and a shake of her head, Wachiwa just announces, "That's silly, you're both being silly," chuckling to herself. BOYS. They're all so.. weird.
"I think three wolves makes for a better guarded border, anyway," she adds, trying to sooth Asku's nerves.. but shooting Hinto a sourish look anyway. "We're friends. What could we ever do that would make us distracted, except maybe chasing after a silly old man." She teases, poking fun at Hinto's game with a grin.

Askuwheteau does not seem at all amused, in fact he turns and begins to walk away continuing his patrol, "Hinto If I for a moment thought you sounded like a bear I would run for the rest of the pack. What you did was not funny. And when I said I would rip an intruder to shreds I meant only that I would make my best effort if I thought Chewy was in danger. I have no illusions about myself. I know I am smaller then other male wolves my age, I am fully aware I am no match for a cougar on my own much less a bear. What I am angry about is that even knowing that we had border breaches you went on with your foolish little 'game' regardless. Admittedly maybe Chewy and I should have been quieter since we were patrolling the border, but if I had not had the presence of mind to try to get a look at you before I reacted then one or both of us might have ended up hurt."
He shakes his head and keeps walking, "I thought you had more common sense. I'm not here to fight off intruders, I'm here to keep my eyes and ears open and should someone try to cross into our lands to call for the pack so they can be dealt with. Sneaking around and frightening me accomplishes what? Aside from giving you a chuckle?"

Hinto watches as Askuwheteau stalks off angrily and just shakes his head. "Some young ones just don't have a sense of humor." Hinto then turns and makes his own way back to where, no doubt, his mate would be waiting for him.
Some young ones just don't have a sense of humor. Sure there's been border breaches, but the two kids were so wrapped up in their feelings toward each other they could have been ambushed before they'd have had a chance to respond! Oh well, perhaps there is fun to be had elsewhere.

Hinto's departure makes Chewy droop a wee bit; after all, three is always more fun than two; but two is still two, and they do still have a border to patrol.
Turning to nudge at Asku's shoulder, she murmurs, "You should get back to patrolling the border, Mister Big and Serious Wolf," with an amused smile, before she turns and starts trotting in the opposite direction, "I'll look this way, you that, and we can meet in the middle!"

Asku noses Wachiwa in return and frowns, "I don't want to be seen as a stick in the mud Chewy, but there are times and places for fun, and times and places when things should be taken seriously. I may have even laughed at Hinto's joke, but he carried it too far." As his friend turns to continue their patrol he simply sighs and nods, before turning to follow her planed course, "Howl if you need me, I'll do the same."
