Characters involved:
Storm, alpha of Lazuli
Bodhi and Rook, Lazuli wolves
Halidari and Larkspur, Storm's pups
A spirit in the form of Storm's mother
Setting: Calm River, on the eastern edge of the forest
With the pups getting older Storm figured it was about time to get them moving around the area instead of being cooped up at the den. The alpha is making her way towards the river with the three pups behind her. Well they was behind her before Larkspur dashes off in front of her towards the sound of water. A faint sigh escapes the alpha. "Lark.. Do not go in that water." At least Hlidari and Toban arn't so ready to go dashing off away from her just yet.
Bodhi trails Storm and the pups from the shadows while keeping an close eye on the area after signs of danger without really expecting any, his eyes gleaming humorously as his lips twist into a grin at Lark's actions tho staying silent.
Her firts time away from the den, Halidari follows closely behind her mother as she looks at everthing large and small. There are so many things here to check out, but would she get away with it if she snuck off - bet not try, yet. When they reach closer to the river, Hali is about to jump forward but it beaten to the point when her sister takes off forward first. Watching Lark for a moment, she looks up to her mother with curious eyes. Keeping along side for the time being, till the sound of water is a sure thing; she darts forward. Reaching the river the wolf pup is struck with an endless aww; she's never seen a river before, least not like this. Watching the fish swim within its clam waters, as she stops at its edge, her head tilts before batting down at them, even letting out a few barks.
Storm glances to Halidari and smiles before lowering her head to give the girl a soft nudge to her side. "Go on." She offers with a wink so she knows its alright to go after Lark if she really wants to. "Just stay in the shallows though." This comment told to all three pups though. Larkspur listions, but does she really listion? On can only hope. Storm glances to Bodhi an smiles. "Thanks for tagging along Bodhi, always good to have an extra set of eyes with this bunch." With her sister batting at the fish Larkspur just has to find out what is going on and moves over to eye the fish wondering what they are, but then at the same time if she can take them on, but the water seems a bit cold so for the moment she stays on dry land.
Bodhi chuckles wryly "gotta keep an eye on my star pupil, even if she is the only one" headshakes and takes a few steps out of the shadows as he speaks more seriously "tho its my pleasure, while young'uns can be a pain at times they are also usually those that brings the most fun, and they fit my nature most the time" head dipping slightly
When joined by her sister, Lark, Hali looks over to her with a childish smile on her muzzle. Looking back to the fish, a paw hanging over the water, she gets a devious idea. Diipping her paw in the water, as if going to bat at the fish, Hali suddenly splashes her sister; jumping back incase of retaliation.
The air itself seems to shimmer like the ripples of the river nearby, as seemingly out of nowhere a ghostly figure appears on the other side of the bank. Its wispy form barely visible amidst the darkness of the forest, it is not likely to be seen right away. Floating forward slowly, it heads towards the river - and the pups playing within it - though its paws appear to be walking on the water itself, rather than sinking into the flow. A shapeless paw reaches out and caresses the form of Larkspur, its lack of tangibility likely sending a shiver through the pup as it sweeps through and around her body. By now, the spirit's form has taken on a more defined and visible shape, appearing very much like a pale grey wolf, its original fur color washed out to a ghostly white. Looking over to Storm with pupiless eyes, it speaks: "Hello, my child."
Yelp! Larkspur hops back at the splash, shakeshaking the water from her pelt. Gonna getcha for that, Hali! A playgrowl has just started to form in her throat when she feels a cold swoop along her body. The pup stops, standing completely still and not making a sound for the moment. After a heartbeat, she releases another yelp, though this one is much more terrified than the former. "M-M-Mama!" She stammers. The girl sees the pale form before her and trembles a little, ears pinning back.
Storm chuckles at Bodhi. "I hope you haven't told her that.. If you did there will be no living with her after this." The alpha settles down on her haunches while watching her two daughter's play at the water's edge. "They've gotten so big so fast." She murmurs faintly before her gaze drifts towards the movement of something over the water and she blinks while watching it float towards them. Shifting back to her paws and then over to her daughters standing over them, a deep growl starts to escape her as she watches the spirit unsure of what to do.. Not like this has ever happened before. As the ghostly form talks she just blinks, her maw opening but she isn't sure what to say. "Mother?.." She questions with a unsure tone.
Bodhi turns his focus toward what Storm growls at and blinks a few times as his ears pin back at the sight, maw opening before shutting as he swallows his own growl. Shaking his head rapidly a few times to try and regain his composure and push back any signs of fear and uncertanity nomatter how much he feels them, he moves over toward Lark and Hali to cover them as he watches the form and storm having decided she seems best suited to solve this
Laughter comes from Hali as she nails her sister head on. The playgrowl is taken seriously and so gives one right back till the very moment she sees Lark burst into a fit of fright. Not seeing the pale form until her sister points it out with her own gaze. Unsure of what to think of the now, visable figure, she blinks croaching down the moment her mother protects them from above. Ears pinned down, and eyes not moving from the whispy figure she blinks only as the word 'mother' is spoken. "M-Mama, what is that?" Hali asks rather quickly.
"Please, do not be afraid, young ones. Were my life not cut short by Man, you would know me as your grandmother," the spirit replies, smiling down at the pups before glancing back up at her own daughter. "It's been so long, Storm. I'm so very proud of what you've become. An alpha of your own pack, imagine that!" she proclaims blissfully. "And your children are as beautiful as the moonlight reflecting off a still pond's surface. A mother could never be happier." Her wistful smile shifts into a sad frown as she gazes upon the alpha's form. "Unfortunately, I am not here with happy news. I have come to warn you, my child."
Larkspur whimpers quietly, not comprehending. Why is Mama calling this...thing 'Mother'? And why does it have bad news? The pup inches closer to her sister, glancing worriedly at Storm. Will she make this scary monster go away? The girl feels marginally reassured by Bodhi, but she'll feel loads better if the shape will just /leave/. It seems to know Mama, but that doesn't make it any less frightening.
Storm can't believe what she is seeing, nor hearing for that matter. It takes her a few long moments to compose herself before she takes in a shakey breath. "Its alright girls.." Bodhi seems alright so she doesn't say anything to him at the moment. A faint smile crosses her maw, glad to hear her mother's words of praise, glad to know her parents and sister know how far she's gotten. "Thank you mother.. I'm so glad to hear that." She murmurs softly, ears twitching as she listions to her children, somewhat though her attention is more so on the ghostly form of her mother. Warn her.. She can't even assume what she should be warned about. "Warn me.. Warn me about what?" Worry fills the alpha's tone as she says this.
A slim, dark pelted figure saunters upon the scene. His evening meanderings typically take him along this route; he's very used to the place, so it isn't very long before Rook senses something... not typical. It started with an odd feeling in the pit of his gut, but now his vision is also very clearly indicating something wrong. What is that? The young wolf nears the gathering, ears erect, nose snifting. What in the world is going on here? The questions, pointedly unspoken, are written all over the adolescent's face.
"A threat approaches. They are not after anyone in particular, but they do not have friendly intents," the ghostly wolf explains, shaking her head after she finishes speaking. "I do not know much more than that, I am afraid. I cannot foretell the future, only see what is happening right now." She steps forward to nuzzle her daughter, though it feels only like a cool breeze against her fur. "Please be careful, Storm. You are a more than capable leader, and I have no doubt you will lead your pack into safety once again. But I fear this is a danger not to be underestimated." She takes a step back, hovering over the babbling brook once again, her form fading slowly from sight. "Farewell, my daughter. I will be watching over you, as ever." A single tear trickles down her cheek as she closes her eyes and shimmers away into nothingness - and when it hits the ground, rather than disappearing like the rest of her, the spot where it landed is damp.
So this hazy figure of her grandmother; well that answers her question. Just why does she looks so funny. Hali's head tilts as she listens to the figure, blinking all the while. Looking to Lark, who moves in closer and apparently seems freaked out by the whole current events; Hali's stature isn't calm but not scared either. When a warning is denouced, though not spoken she becomes worried; what is a warning, what are they being warned of. After what seems like a long moment, the answer is given. Making little of it, she just blinks upward towards her mother, then back to the figure who apparently wastes little time fading away.
Larkspur is dumbfounded. She doesn't notice Rook's entrance, she forgets the presence of those around her. The girl's eyes are trained on the spot where the tear fell, ears still flat against her head. Bad stuff is coming, is what she gleans from her grandmother's message. The pup doesn't like the sound of that, not at all.
Bodhi remains silent as he leans down to offer the young'uns a friendly nuzzle, head cocking slightly as he looks over in Storms direction
"A threat?.." Storm murmurs faintly while listioning to her mother's spirit, her mind going over questions on what it could be with the man seemingly dead from what she can tell. Her ear twitches towards the sound of another but she catches Rook's scent so relaxes some. She goes to ask something but as her mother can't tell her much else there isn't much she can ask. A sad smile crosses her maw while her eyes close a moment at the cold touch which makes her shiver a moment. "Thank you mother.. And we will all be careful." She murmurs softly. Fear trickles over her form as she shifts forward as her mother's form starts to disappear, and a faint whimper escapes her and then her mother is gone once more. Her head lowers an her eyes close. "Thank you mom.." She says again in a faint whisper, she has always missed her parents but this just makes her see how much. The alpha takes in a breath before lifting her gaze to look over the ones here unsure what to say to them.
As his questions go unanswered, Rook is left with even more. Confusion wracks the young wolf's brain, as he fails to make much sense of this on his own. He nears in time to witness the figure disperse, and an unsettled feel brushes just beneath his fur. Does he have a right to ask? Perhaps not, but Rook can't keep himself silent forever. "What was... who was that?"
Halidari is unsure of what to make of anything at the moment. The spirit of her grandmother, a warning they knowing nothing about, except that something is coming, and... uh, well thats it. Being a pup is she suppose to worry - does she need to worry. Moving up against a leg of Storm, she looks rather clueless as to where the spirit went. Its only after a moment that she looks up to her mother once more in hope for some clarity she probably won't understand. With the presence of Rook nearby, due to his voice, Hali looks over to him and blinks. She somewhat wants to know the same question, even with the info she has picked up. "Mama, can we go home?" Hali asks after a moment of silence.
Bodhi remains silent and toughtfull as this has changed a few things on how he views things, taking two steps forward to offer a friendly nuzzle to Storm then looking over toward Rook and dipping his head in greeting before taking a step back and surveying the area carefully then finally leaning down to nuzzle the equally silent Lark
Storm lowers her head and nuzzles against Halidari softly. "Its alright.." She murmurs to the girl before Rook's voice catches her attention. "That was my mother.. Her spirit, she came to warn us it seems." The alpha turns nodding to Hal. "Yes, let's go home. I hope your father is awake.." She needs Felstride here, he for sure would have a more level head then her. A faint smile is offered to Bodhi an she noses him back before starting to move homewards, a threat.. But what could it be...
[OOC Note: Feel free to spread rumors about various tidbits from this scene! We imagine news like this would spread fast, even if it only started from a single squirrel watching the whole incident.
