Bristlecone, A Coyote
Kai, A Young Coyote
Dawn, An Elder Raven
Summery: An attempt at stealing some of Satinka's food goes wrong.
Nadie is sitting outside of her den. As she looks out at the forest and then up at the night sky and sees the moon is getting smaller. She looks around the place to see if anyone is awake in the area. As she then thinks about going hunting as she looks back at the forest.
Finian is lurking about the edges of the territory. The other day he was to the west of here trying to convince a young cougar to come with him and see the world, and of course be his bodyguard. That unfortunately fell through...for now, but that doesn't mean he's given up the idea entirely. He is scanning the area to see who is up and about. He is going to steal the food if he can pull it off. He would like to avoid a fight if he could..that really isn't his style, but if it comes to that he isn't afraid to mix things up.
Felix had finally calmed down enough to close his eyes and try to listen to the trees again. He wants to know if they know of Hantaywee. If anything happened, but they seem silent to him tonight.
Finian can see that only Felix and Nadie are up and about. He is not worried about Nadie in the least. Felix is more of a problem, but if it comes down to it he is fairly certain that he could handle the situation. Still Felix seems rather preoccupied with doing nothing at the moment. This is as deserted as he has seen the merge and it seems like now or never. He begins to make his way slowly and as quietly as possible toward where he had seen Satinka bury the rabbits that she seems to always be bringing back.
Nadie is looking out toward the forest still. Then looks over and sees her brother has calmed down and is doing something that she guesses Rye taught him to do. As she then stands up and stretchs some and then sits back down.
Rye yawns and stretches, climbing out of the den. He glances around to see what's going on. He is about to head over to the foxes when something catches his eyes. He turns and notices movement, then spies the yote. Now why would he be moving like that...towards that direction... hmm. "Good evening." he calls out.
"Don't... I got him." Felix says, then stands up and strolls toward Finian. He suspected something was up and the trees told him this one was up to something. "What are you doing over there?"
Finian had hoped not to be noticed, but when he is noticed he wheels around to face Felix. Well there is little point in hiding at the present moment since he had been noticed, "I'm busy." he says to him. His tone at the present moment is firm and he gives him a look as if to say that he isn't to be messed with. He has never been one that liked to mix his mischief with bloodshed. It has always seemed rather uncivilized, but still...if you have to why not?
Nadie grins as she also noticed Finian and can probaly guess what he was up to. Since she always moves where she stores her food for later. She guesses Satinka does the same thing and the food is probaly no longer where it use to be. Then looks over at Rye and smiles. "Hi Rye."
Rye blinks and smiles. "Felix, how are you doing." he states, before turning to talk to Nadie, though he keeps an ear on what's going on between the yote and fox to the side. "How are you doing?"
"I am doing quite well. I'm still working on getting used to the idea of things." Felix says and starts walking more confidently toward Finian. "I don't look too kindly on thieves."
Stareyes smiles as she drags over a couple otters to where nadie is and sets them down infront of her as she says "I thought you might be hungry."
Finian glances around, he plans to keep an awareness of his surroundings on this adventure. He still thinks he can get away from this sitaution not only with his skin, but with some food. He offers a smile to Felix and walks straight toward him as well, "Oh now...what would make you think that I was a thief?" he asks. Of course he is very much a thief, but he doesn't have to know that until the time is right.
Nadie looks over at Rye and smiles. "I am doing good depsite this endless hunger I seem to be experiencing." Then grins as she sees Stareyes and nuzzles her. "Hi mom and thanks for the food." As she starts on one of the otters.
Rye moves over towards Felix and Finian, as he catches sight of the yote moving towards the fox. he wants to make sure things don't go south. He does keep talking to Nadie and Star. "That should help with the hunger."
"Let's just say good friends let me know." Felix says. He takes a few more steps, and stays standing. "I don't care to see visitors looking to steal what may be freely given."
Stareyes smiles at her daughters nuzzles and walks over to felix and says "whats going on son?" She asks as she looks over to Finian and says "hello there?"
Finian decides to continue to play this sitauation cool for the time being, "Really? I didn't hear any of your friends here make such a rediculous accusation." he says to him. If he has to fight he will, but he will see first if he can talk himself out of this. Right now he is certainly close enough to Felix that if he wanted to he could make a grab, but not just yet.
ridiculous rather
Nadie stops eatting for now. Then looks over and wonders if Finian knows what he is getting himself into. Then shrugs her shoulders as she looks over at Rye and smiles. "Well we will see about that." As she then looks back over at Finian and Felix and Stareyes. As she wants to watch what is going to happen. Her stomach growls at her as she sighs and goes back to eatting the otter she has started on.
Rye moves over to stand next to Felix. "You must have never learned the full ways of Coyotes. The mores' to pitty I guess. I have endeverued to teach my fox friend here a lot of ancient yote ways. He's taken a lot to heart, so he hears what might not be heard, and sees sometimes what's not there, but what could be there, following what the stars say.
"Back away." Felix says suddenly, very sharply to both Rye and his mother. "I don't want either of you hurt."
Stareyes says "Silly felix, don't go getting into fights. I don't want to see you getting hurt now." She looks over calmly to Finian and says "It probably be best for you to also learn, some battles are not worth the effort."
Finian ponders to himself what Rye had said about the ancient ways of the coyotes. It's true that he might not have some of the abilities that Felix has, but unless those ways can save you if you get in over your head Finian would likely be uninterested. As the fox tells Rye and his mother to back away he has to admit that he has a certain amount of bravery. It might not do him much good if it comes down to a fight, but he can't deny the fox has style. If he didn't know better he would almost think that Felix was spoiling for a fight. Its looking like that might be more and more unavoidable. After all he can't let a little fox stand in the way of his honor as a thief can he? I mean if you want to have a reputation you have to back it up, "You should listen to your mommy." he says to Felix.
Nadie is still working on the otter. As she listens to what is being said and shakes her head some. As she wonders what happened to that coyote to turn him into a thief. As she then shruges her shoulders some. As she then lies down on the ground and moves the other otter closer to her. As she then finishes off the first otter and tosses the bones to the side.
Rye shakes his head some. "I see, so you wish to provoke a fight with words like that?" to the yote. and to Felix. "You of all animals shoudl know you can't just tell me where to go. You're grandfather tried to do that, and it didn't work then, so I'll stay here, a little back, but I'm going to be here.
Felix bites back with his provocative words. Against what would have been his better judgment, "You should have listened to yours, maybe you wouldn't be such a thief!"
Stareyes growls and says "I don't know who you are but you should also consider my words. For it might be you who is misreading the situation." She states as she glares at the strange yote
Finian had been rather unable to provoke this group when he originally arrived, though he certainly seems to have gotten thier attention now. That pleases him. Being a thief isn't so much about the food, he could catch his own after all, its more about the thrill of it all. He is certainly a Yote who likes his excitment. He flashes Rye a brief smile in response to his comment, "I think you underestimate me." he says. As he is looking to Rye he hears what Felix says. Well how does he know that his mother wasn't a thief, and her mother before her? Still he grows weary of this confrontation. His mother always told him that if your in...then your in. He hears Stareyes response but it makes little difference by this point. His smile dissolves into a snarl and he quickly whips his head around toward the fox. He doesn't have a burning desire to kill him. Though he isn't going to hold back either. He learned long ago that you need legs to carry on a decent battle so he aims his bite for Felix's right shoulder, a nice surgical strike is what he hopes for. If you can't walk you can't fight. He also has been formulating a way to sucessfully get out of this group with his skin intact and he thinks he might have an idea for that as well.
Nadie looks around the place and sees the coyote try to attack Felix. She places both her paws on the otter. As she watchs the scene to see what will happen next. As she tries to ignore her growling stomach,
Felix only realizes maybe too late he may have bitten off more than he can chew. He's definitely no fighter, and he growls at the bite, trying to get free from the attackign coyote's bite.
Finian watches out of the corner of his eyes Felix's mother make a run at him. He has no intention of letting himself get bit, nor does he have any intention of letting this fight go on too much longer. He might be a Coyote and have weight on the foxes but he is most certainly out numbered. He does two things at once. He hops into the air causing her to miss her intended target, however, she does manage to catch him on the back of his leg causing him to wince in pain. Yes..a quick end to this fight. After he lands he attempts to grab Felix on the back of his neck. If it lands as intended its a move that says back off..or he dies. He doesn't want to kill the fox, but he does want to use him as a bargaining chip to escape.
Bristlecone returns from his walk with Kai in a fairly cheerful mood. He has a lot to think about, to be sure, but... he already knew wolves were weird. That's not news. These particular wolves, and that particular weirdness... okay, maybe that's a little different, but still. The coyote hasn't really let it affect him - in fact, he's humming a tune to himself as he comes back and finds... Felix being attacked by Finian. His. Best. Friend. Being. Attacked. That good mood is gooooone now. The coyote growls, an unfamiliar sound in his throat, and starts toward the battle at a run.
Nadie blinks as she continues to watch the fight and looks around and wonders where Rye and Satinka could be at. Then blinks again as she sees Bristlecone running toward the battle. She looks down to make sure her paws are still on the otter as she then looks back at the fight.
Felix remains, again, no fighter as he swings to catch Finian only for his neck to be grabbed. Ouch. How is he going to get out of this one?
It took Kai a little ways to reach where Bristlecone had been, and he finds himself watching in amazement the fight that was going on. This couldn't end well. He didn't know whether to retreat, or help Bristlecone. He wanted to help his uncle.. he whimpered a little. Fight? Should he fight? He couldn't fight... He'd.. That coyote deffinately had that fox in his mouth, and could kill him at any second. "Bristlecone, stop!!"
Stareyes uses her momentom to tear off a peice of flesh from the attacker and turns to him growling as she lands on her feet and says "Consider your position pup, I will hunt you to the grave if you hurt my son. I swear my life upon it." She states as she glares at him and says "let him go and you will not be harmed." She states as she growls at the yote.
Finian smiles inwardly, yes this situation has worked out far better than he could have hoped. Well actually thats not true. The theivery could have gone off without a hitch and he could be full and somewhere else now, but this works too. As he keeps his old on Felix's neck he fixes the rest of the group in something of a stare meaning to convey that if anyone moves a muscle Felix will be meeting his maker. Stareye's attack dirupts this train of thought, and to drive home his point, especially to the foxes mother, he attempts to give him a shake. Not enough to snap his neck mind you...but enough, hopefully, to prove to the group how serious he is.
Bristlecone keeps on growling, but he comes to a stop just a pounce away from Finian and Felix. "There are two ways this ends, coyote," he says. "You let him go, and you walk away. Or... you don't." He's not afraid of this coyote. Not even if he was alone. He's learned a few combat tricks, here and there. His girlfriend /was/ a trained hunting and attack dog, after all. He's never used those skills for real, for more than playbites... but he's ready to start, and his posture shows that, his gaze to Finian steady and challenging, his hackles raised. "So tell me. What's it gonna be?"
Nadie looks over at Kai as he yells. Then looks back over at Bristlecone and tilts her head some. As she wonders what is going to happen now and wonders if Bristlecone is fast enough. As she then wonders how well she could fight if she had too.
Felix yells out in pain as he is shaken, and it doesn't look pleasant. He's not sure what's making the situation worse, but he does know he could be mere seconds from death. He not only very clearly lost this battle, but very, very clearly he never really stood a chance.
Kai glared at the coyote. He starts to slowly approach them knowing he wouldn't be attacked while the bad coyote kept the fox in his teeth. He made sure to stay a few feet away from Bristlecone to give him space, but.. "What are you doing??!" He growls through his teeth. It wasn't the most threatening thing seeing that he was only 3 months old, but why not? "Is this fox food to you?? What makes a fox kill better then a rabbit kill? Stupid idiot!" Oh yeah. That'll be the suckerpunch! He was still young...
Stareyes growls as she says "Let my son go now, or else" She states as she lowers her head ears flattened and positioning herself behind the yote. She will cut off his retreat and fight him with everything she has if he doesn't let her son go. Her fur sprawled as she ready to fight to the death with him. Looking like a rabid fox, as she snarls at the yote only holding back because her sons still alive.
Wow this group does not seem to get how the whole hostage thing works, he thinks to himself. He also ponders what the other coyote says, actually he can think of seveal different ways that this could end. He could snap the foxes neck now, and most likely die in the fight that would ensue after. He could kill the fox and perhaps run away fast enough and live to the tell the tale. He could drop the fox and hope that is sufficent to by him time to escape. He doesn't like any of these options and the longer this stalemate goes on the more chance it has of ending badly, "Back off and I'll drop him...especially you." he says with difficulty since he is still holding tight specifically to Stareyes. There is no way he is dropping the fox while she is still behind him. You don't let your hostage go while you are in trouble. You let the hostage go after you are home free.
Dawn chooses this moment to appear on her customary branch. Maybe she was always there. But that'd mean she's been keeping quiet this whole time... nah. But oh, look, it's dinner and a show tonight. "Ho, hm. Hum. This is new," she says to herself.
Bristlecone flicks an ear at Kai as he approaches. Another potential hostage in the line of fire. Not great news, but... well, he'll deal with it. Most of his attention stays directly on Finian; not even really looking at Felix. Right now, that's only a distraction from what matters in this confrontation. At Finian's answer, his lip curls up in a snarl. Hostage-takers who keep their words are so rare as to be practically nonexistent. If they were noble and honorable, why would they take hostages in the first place? "You're alone, coyote. If you let him go, she'll be too busy worrying about her son to attack. If you keep threatening him... maybe she's going to snap. You want to risk that?"
Nadie sneezes very loudly. Then blink as her very loud sneeze surprised her. She sniffs some and then looks over at the fight. As she then yaaawwwwnnnsss. She sighs some and shakes her head to try to stay awake.
Stareyes growls and says "Your the one who needs to back off give me my son back, Or die." She states as she snarls and holds her ground. She states "I will back off when I get my son back."
Felix definitely won't move now. He's seemingly limp, trying not to resist. He doesn't want to die.
Nadie decides to make sure the other otter is safe. She stands up and picks up the otter and goes into her den and drops it off. Then comes back out and sits down right in front of the den blocking the entrance. As she then lies down and still watchs the fight with concern.
Kai's ears go back. Well that didn't work.. He was trying to be logical which for a young coyote that seemed to be getting himself into trouble a lot was a hard thing to force himself to do without worrying about his limitations as a "pup". There wasn't much he could do but watch...
Finian grows tired of this standoff. The evening is late and he doesn't want to risk this situation getting anymore out of hand than it already is. Its then that he gets a very bright idea. He whirls around and throws Felix at his mother and instantly takes off running in the opposite direction, being sure to steer clear of Bristle and rest. His work here is done for the evening. He would have liked to have gotten some rabbits out of it, but oh well...you win some you lose some. It seems Felix lost the most this evening,
Dawn watches impassively. Well, well. Certainly took him long enough to figure out the one thing he could sensibly do in his place, didn't it? Her rattling, rocky laughter echoes after him.
When Finian throws Felix back and runs, Bristlecone takes off too. Not trying to catch up with the other coyote, just... pacing him a few lengths behind, until they reach the edge of the territory. He's making sure Finian leaves; and once that's been accomplished, he turns back and returns home, to make sure his friend is okay and figure out just what exactly went happened.
Stareyes catches her son and rolls to obsorb the blow, checking over to make sure he is alright she sniffs his wounds and licks them as she hopes he is not too badly hurt
Felix is down for now. He's awake, but he doesn't feel much like moving or anything. "Ow..."
Kai wanders over to Felix and looks down at him worried. He gave him and his mother plenty of space, but still managed to seem interested in his wellbeing. "Are you ok??"
Stareyes nuzzles him as she says "you stupid pup." She nuzzles him again and tries to clean his wound, hoping he will be alright.
