Desolate Scrubland
Bristlecone - male Coyote
Sanuye - female Coyote
---
When he left the merge, Bristlecone's steps were slow, his head low. As he's traveled, though, his steps have gotten faster and faster, until now he's running, his paws beating down quickly against the earth as he flies over it. He gathers himself to leap over a small gully, landing gracefully on the other side and racing onward, running beneath a pale springtime sun without pause.
Sanuye is settled upon the boulder out in the middle of the land, her head resting upon her forepaws and her bright gaze drifts out over the land while she threatens to doze off it would seem. A ear twitching forward and she snuffles before licking across her maw a few times. Her tail slowly sways behind her and she stretches with a lazy yawn escaping her in the process.
Just him, and the ground beneath his feet. Bristlecone isn't paying attention to much else, though his race to the horizon does seem to take him vaguely past where Sanuye rests. He's not paying attention to that, though; nor to the lizard that scuttles away under a pile of rocks, or the pair of desert doves that take to flight in a flurry of wings. He simply _runs_.
Sanuye blinks as she watches Bristlecone racing by, she tilts her head and ers a moment before shifting and settles to her haunches. A faint hum escaping her while her tail slowly sways. For the moment she doesn't say anything and just watches.
The coyote goes ever on and on, down from the place where he began. Bristlecone races along, picking his course through the unfamiliar territory, until he finds himself running up a ridge that ends abruptly in a cliff. He starts backpedaling, his paws scrabbling against the earth. A few stones fall off the cliff, rattling down against the stone and sand, but he manages to stop in time, just barely before the edge. Bristlecone lifts up his muzzle, and he howls out to the sky and the open desert.
At the Desolate Scrubland, Bristlecone howls.
Sanuye shifts on her paws and stands herself up, hoping down from the rock and troting after Bristlecone at a quick pace. Her tail swaying about as she goes doing her best to keep up with him so to speak. Ears flicking forward a faint snuffle escapes her and she glances skywards at the sudden howl that is picked up. She lifts her head up and lets out her own howl as it were to add in to the one from Bristlecone..
At the Desolate Scrubland, Sanuye howls.
Bristlecone's call falters for a moment as it's joined - a yip, and then it starts up again, rising up with Sanuye's. His eyes close, letting the howls ring through the air together. When the sounds reach their natural end, he lowers his head, and then opens his eyes and turns back to look for the source of that second howl. He turns, and pads down the slope toward her at a delicate pace, just as though he hadn't just been racing pell-mell across the landscape.
Sanuye lets her howl continue along with his for a few moments, it soon putters but having a rather natural sounding end to it. A faint few yips escapes her while she trots forward, ears twitching one way and then another while her gaze settles upon Bristlecone. Her tail sways a few times and she smiles. "Hey.."
Bristlecone grins widely, approaching Sanuye. "Hey," he says, and when he comes to a reasonable distance near her, he stops, and plops his butt down against the ground, tail thumping it once as he sits. "How've you been?"
Sanuye looks amused and soon grins, her tail sways a few more times before stopping. A soft hum escaping her while she settles to her haunches near the other. "I've been fine, what about yourself?" She tilts her head, a slight smirk crosses her maw. "What was all the running around for?"
"I'm... good," says Bristlecone with a laugh. "Yeah. I'm good." He grins, and then shrugs one shoulder at the other question, turning his head back to look up the slope, and then over toward the river. Then he returns his gaze to her, and laughs. "Because I could. Because... I can."
