Two-River Fork
Coinin - Male Wolf [Cerulean]
Rayen - Female Wolf [Cerulean Guest]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
She'd been out on a small hunting trip, mainly to keep busy but the two hares hanging from her jaws was a nice reward for boredum. Rayen picks gingerly through the worst of the slushy landscape by the river sides, tail swaying idly from side to side. She drops her kills on a patch of semi-dry earth and runs her tounge over her lips and nose. Rayen lifts her nose to a cool breeze as it blows by, eyes closing and a deep breath taken. Ahh, cool air still felt so good to her no matter how cool.
Coinin had returned from his patrol last evening when everyone had apparently gone to sleep. That was a good thing for him. Anoki had embarassed him and he really didn't want to have to deal with that. He is pleased Niyt seemed to take it in stride. He will definitely have to have a talk with that boy when he has him out hunting. At the very least teach him how to be more polite and grown up. He hears the sound of paw steps and turns his head and sees Rayen approaching, and it looks like she has had a sucessful hunt as well, "Hi."
Eyes blink as ears rotate forwards and head turns. Coinin is takin into her sight and given a gentle smile, "Evening Coinin." She gives her pelt a good shake before letting her haunches drop to the earth, a small sigh given. "Seems the spirits have blessed us with a nice night and good luck," she drawls indicating the hares and nice weather for the time of year.
Coinin doesn't have what could be called a traditional belief in the spirits, but he can certainly agree that the evening has been good thus far, "Yes. The weather is turning for the better. Soon the slush will be gone and spring will be here, and before we know it summer." He is definitely looking forward to the cold being gone. It wasn't a particularly harsh winter, but he can't wait for the summer sun to return, "It does seem that you have been rather sucessful." he says as he gazes upon the hares.
Her beliefs in the spirit world is one of tradition and yet something she doesn't share openly often or push on others. Her packs ways were ones that made since in a way and yet how they executed those beliefs could have been done differently. She nods her head to his words before glancing down and back to Coinin, "If your hungry from your patrol please, help yourself," said as she leans down to nose one of the hares in his general direction. She doesn't mention Anoki's comment from the night before, though with the mention of spring it does pop into her mind. A faint smile tugs at her maw at the expression caused by the young wolf.
Coinin will take her up on her offer. In general he likes to hunt for himself, but given that he is now very much a part of this pack he is willing to accept a certain amount of kindness from others. The smile doesn't go unnoticed, and he has a rough idea of what its about. He lifts himself to his paws and walks over toward the rabbit that she had given him and sits down in front of it, "Thank you." he says to her as he begins chew on the rabbit.
Rayen nods her head, "Of course. If it was not for you and your kindness I would not have gotten the courage to speak to your Alpha nor would I be one step closer to possibly having a home again. So I thank you." She grabs the pelt of the other hare and pulls it closer, almost obsessive compulsively cleaning the fur from the meat before she begins to eat her own dinner. Her thoughts travel back to her neice and she hesitates inbetween bites, tounge running over her lips, "Have you by chance seen my neice at all...?" Rayen questions gently.
Coinin was pleased to offer the two of them a place to stay. They were and are on what in his mind is a noble quest, and he is always pleased to assit things like that, "You are more than welcome..." he says, "...I did see Catori awhile ago. It seems that she is still looking for her father, and has thus been rather unsucessful I'm afraid." He lifts his head from the meal momentarily to say these things so as no to be rude and talk with his mouth full, before he returns to the rabbit.
Rayen nods her head, "I expected as much.." she hesitates before returning to her meal. She eats in silence for a few moments. As she draws to the end of it however she does look up, brows furrowed thoughtfully, "I found her father's brother.. but I do not know if I should be the one to tell her.. Or if she would want to find out such a thing by herself. I.. never had to locate my father.. I do not know how it feels.." she says rather awkwardly. As friendly as Rayen was, she wasn't one to spill her problems onto another, however in this case she really didn't know what to do with her neice concerning her father.
Coinin lifts his head from the rabbit once more as she speaks. He doesn't really understand who all is related to who yet, but he is developing something of a mental map when it comes to these things, "Who is her father's brother?" he asks. His own curiosity is now peaked and his ears are forward ready to her what she has to say. Perhaps if he knows a bit more he would have some idea on what to advise her.
Rayen frowns gently, "Cyrus. His brother Helios is Catori's father.. they were of the Lazuli pack before it merged. I spoke to him some time ago in the woods that border these lands; Cyrus that is. Gruff old wolf.. means well though.." she murmurs. She sighs gently and shakes her head a little, "I just wish I knew the correct road to take on this one.." Rayen gives a helpless little shrug, ears twitching back then forwards.
Coinin believes he might have met this wolf once, at least briefly before he excused himself. He didn't seem to have much liking for being all that social, "Well. You could always tell her about it and she could make up her own mind on if she wants to try to find him or not. At least you are giving her a choice. I think thats probably what she needs the most. We can give her what information we can so that she can make the choices for herself." At least that seems like a good idea to him.
Rayen nods her head gently, "That sounds like a good idea.. I believed the same but it is still nice to hear a second opinion." She smiles thankfully before taking the carcass of the hare and moving it over to tuck it into some brush for the time being. She returns, stretching her legs as she does and slides back to her haunches thoughtfully.
Coinin isn't quite done with the rabbit that she had given him so he returns to it for a few more minutes before he is done. When done he follows suit and pushes what is left of the rabbit toward the bushes as well, "Thank you again.." he says. Rayen has always struck him as a very kind wolf, and he hopes that she plans on staying around for a long time. The pack could always use someone like that.
Her head is given a gentle nod at his thanks, "Of course." Rayen glances around curiously, almost lost in thought. She had been thinking more and more about possibly asking their alpha for permission to stay permenantly however it was a pending idea. Ray' slides down to her belly slowly, tail thumping the ground once. She peers at him curiously for a brief moment before she glances out at the surrounding landscape, "I truely did not think this was how my journey to find Catori would end.. well not so much end.. that this is where it would lead me," she chuckles.
Coinin can't read her mind, but a similar set of thoughts is running through his head, "You really should ask Tariro to become a member of the pack. I know he would say yes." And its true when you start a journey you seldom have a very clear idea of where the road will take you. He has grown rather used to this place and it has very much become a home, and not so much a place where he just happens to be staying for awhile, "You and Catori were definitely lucky."
Rayen, who had settled her head upon her paws, tilts her head to one side thoughtfully. "I have thought about it.. asking Tariro to stay. It has been so long since I have had a true home.." she murmurs. Yellow-green eyes flicker around the area before they rest upon Coinin again. "And these are your plans? To spend your life here? I know you spoke of a previous pack, as I have, but these lands and these wolves.. are that gentle-hearted? My previous pack.." she hesitates and simply arches a brow.
Coinin has already been accepted as a member of the pack and has been for a number of months now, "Yes. I plan to stay here forever." Not that plans can't change. After all he had planned to stay with his birth pack forever too, but that didn't work out well, "It seems that we share something of a similar story then." Though no doubt the details are a bit different.
Rayen nods her head, "Seems so.." she murmurs gently. She falls silent once again, more thoughtful then anything, as she gazes up to the sky; fluffs of clouds rolling by the night sky. "I think I will ask then.. the next time I see Tariro." A faint smile flickers upon her maw, crinkling the area below her eyes where her 'freckles' rested on her cheeks.
Coinin is pleased to hear her say that. Having her around permenantly makes for one more friend, "So last night you finally got to meet Niyt and Anoki." he says. Now that he has had a chance to eat and relax a bit he feels more comfortable talking about the previous evening, "Anoki is definitely something else. He's had a really rough time of it though and is slowly begining to come out of it."
Her ears twitch as she listens to the male and nods her head gently, "I haven't really met Anoki formally but he does seem interesting.." she hmms gently. "Their parents?" she questions thoughtfully, "Is it just them two? It is terrible when such horrible things happen to those so young."
Now at least he will have a bit of a chance to explain, "Niyt was the wolf that welcomed me into the pack. She found me and suggested that I stay. She really is a wonderful wolf...now we are not a couple despite what Anoki may think. I do consider her to be my best friend, but its not romantic at all if you know what I mean." He considers Niyt to be something more along the lines of a sister. Its true he does have protective feelings for her, mainly because of her blindness, "Niyt's and Anoki's parents died recently, and Niyt has sort of taken to raising Anoki herself. He was recently pupnapped and held captive by some strange cult, at least thats what Niyt said. He escaped and he hasn't really been the same since I'm told. There are other siblings around I think but I haven't met them."
Rayen lifts her head as she listens thoughtfully and nods gently in understanding. The comment about Anoki and his presumptions of Coinin and Niyt bring a faint smile to her maw but she wipes it away as she listens to the rest of his explination. Rayen's brow furrows and she gives her head a small shake, "That's terrible.. no pup should have to deal with something like that.. especially without parents.." she mummbles. "It was kind of you.. lastnight. Offering to take him hunting. The kindness of that statement means more now that I understand somewhat of what he has delt with."
Coinin nods slowly, yep Anoki and Niyt have both been through a great deal. In truth it seems the pack has been through a great deal and most of it seemed to have happened before he arrived, and in part he is glad to have missed it, "I kept hoping that some male in the pack would take interest in teaching him what he needs to know. I obviously can't replace his father, but there are certain things that a young wolf needs to learn."
The she-wolf knows all about that "motherly instinct". Since her accident when she was younger Rayen never thought she would feel it again, that is until Catori was left mother and fatherless in a pack that saw her almost has a burden because of it. Rayen didn't agree with her families beliefs and so when Catori set out on her own to find her father, Rayen followed despite knowing the consequences. Rayen smiles warmly, "You are right.. and it is very, once again, kind of you. I'm sure, even if he doesn't quite understand it, Anoki will thankyou greatly. Not just for teaching him, but showing him a friendship he may truely need. Catori was the same way.."
Coinin doesn't really want Anoki to thank him or anything like that, but he does want Anoki to grow up understanding what it is to be a grown up wolf, "Well hopefully Catori and Anoki can meet. I think it would be good for Anoki to have someone closer to his own age to play with, and I'm sure it would be nice for Catori as well." He smiles, "I'm sure that Catori was quite the pawful."
Rayen chuckles at this, "You have no idea." She rolls her eyes but smiles fondly at the memories. "Catori's mother was my sister, and when Cat's mother passed.." she pauses breifly, "Well.. I was Catori's guardian. It's more of a dramatic twisted story then I'd let to admit so I'll spare you the details," she shakes her head, "That girl.. was a wild child. But I loved her. My own pup or not, when she left the packlands in search of her father.. I couldn't leave her alone to face this world alone.." She peers at him thoughtfully, "Even if it ment never being able to go home. She's family."
Coinin listens as Rayen tells the story. He had heard bits and pieces of it from her previously, but never the full version, "Well then I'm sure that she and Anoki will get along just fine. I'm told that he can be quite the pawful as well. I'm sorry about the loss of your sister, things like that can be really hard. But its probably good that you were there to take care of her because it sounds like no one else would have."
Her yellow-green eyes darken faintly, "No. They would not have." She glances elsewhere and shakes her head briefly as if to clear moths from her head. "Well if I ever can find her I'll be sure she introduces herself properly to everyone, including Anoki!" Rayen beams a gentle smile as she pushes herself back up to her haunches. "They could both use a friend their own age to get in trouble with," she chuckles.
Coinin nods slowly, everyone can definitely use a friend, "Well the pack is full of folks that she can make friends with. I think you have probably met most everyone by this point."
Rayen nods her head gently, "Indeed I have." She tilts her head to one side, "And everyone has been very kind." She stretches her feet in the slush, giving a faint little whine of happiness at the stretch.
Coinin chuckles and nods, "You know I haven't met anyone that isn't kind here. With perhaps the exception of Helaku. He seems to be kind of crabby sometimes, but I'm sure that he means well. Niyt seems to like him." Niyt may have denied that the two of them were an item, but secretly he thinks there is something more to that than they are letting on.

I know that she was able to see at one point. She seems to have found her own way to make things work." He chuckles and shrugs, "Couldn't tell you how she manages to do it though."
Rayen chuckles, "I suppose it does not matter how, just the fact that she can!" A wolfish grin beams across her maw before she chuckles warmly. "Every moment that passes I feel more and more like I could belong here."
Coinin doesn't see any reason at all why she couldn't fit in here if she wanted to stay, "Once you have had the chance to speak to Tariro then you will most definitely belong. You can't get any more offical than that."
Rayen smiles pleasently and nods her head. She gives a rather large yawn and glances around curiously before looking back to Coinin. "It has been nice.. talking with you. Thankyou for spending the evening in my company. If you will excuse me though, I think it is time to get some sleep." Rayen smiles warmly, giving her maw a small dip before she stands to find a dry place to sleep for the night.
Coinin nod slowly to Rayen and chuckles, "I should find a place to rest for the evening as well. Thank you once again for rabbit. It definitely hit the spot." And with that he lifts himself to his paws and moves off toward his usual sleeping spot.
