Haben - Male wolf
Lexus - Male Wolf
"Well it's about damn time," the lone wolf mutters softly to himself, finally having picked up on the scent of what seems to be a group of wolves in the area. The long lost brother/cousin/uncle has been trying to find his family for quite some time and he was starting to wonder if he'd ever find them. Just his luck, once he went out on his own for a bit to come back and find home completely deserted! Even if being by his own for a while was pretty cool, he still couldn't go without his family forever. So began his journey to find the lost pack, even having to cross through the cougar's territory which was probably a bit more dangerous than he made it out to be. "Now just need to find everyone... great," Haben murmurs to himself again, giving an exagerated sigh as he continues to move forward, keeping his nose open for any familiar scents that might trigger something in the back of his brain.
The day had gone downhill for Lexus, new betas, upset nieces and he was struggling to shake the weird feeling that Coinin just wasn't part of the family, he'd never had a beta without some relation to him, by mate or blood. All in all it required a walk and if he could hunt down some more food on the way then all the better. He padded his way quietly around trees, nose picking up on the odd bit of prey on the wind. No wolves though for as it turned out he was almost directly downwind from Haben if still some distance away. He ignored the smell of rabbit, fancying a change after catching some for breakfast.
Nothing yet... Still nothing... Nothing again. Grr, why does finding a wolf after finally picking up their scent have to be hard! What's worse is that none of the scents smell familiar. He may have been gone for a while, but even he couldn't forget the smell of his older sister and ones he was really close to. Haben had always wondered how differenty things have changed and, judging by his own age, it's possible a lot of family he knows isn't around anymore. That saddens him a bit but he wont know until he asks, so on he goes. As he walks, he makes no attempt to hide his pawsteps, this being one of the few times he hopes someone catches him. Just so long as the thing that does catch him doesn't try to rip his throat open, that is. "Come on guys, where are you?" the wolf asks out into the open in front of him, keeping his ears perked for any hint of sound of reply.
He needs Lexus' nose. If there was something the wolf was good at it was running, shortly followed by his sense of smell. It's his ears that twitch to a faint voice in the woods and he falls silent, listening before he tries to pick up a scent. A shift in the wind and he has it. Wolf. Something familiar to it but it's certainly not one of the current pack. He snapped into movement, sneaking up until he can just about see Haben through the twigs of a bush, blame his slightly dulling eyesight for not recognising the black wolf. He growls a warning "Who are you?"
Well he did get his wish, but his ears must be going if he wasn't able to hear another wolf sneaking up on him. As such, Haben gives a small jump where he is before turning to face the wolf head on, always being a rather bit jumpy despite what his ego will allow him to believe. When he looks on at the opposing wolf, however, Haben hesitates for a second, as something in the back of his brain causes him to slow down for a moment. Even the scene seems a bit distantly familiar but he has no reason why; he's never seen this wolf in his life. "Ohh right, hi!" Haben quickly says, shaking his head to clear his thoughts, straightening himself up so he's not in a crouching position that could be seen as threatening. "I'm looking for a wolf pack and I feel like there's one around here. You wouldn't happen be able to help me out a bit, would you?"
Lexus hesitates a little at the voice too, even that's familiar. It probably doesn't help that even when they did live in the mountains Lex spent a lot of time alone. His growl dies down, there's definitely something about the wolf but he wouldn't let his guard down so close to pack lands, he remained a little suspicious "I'm with the pack. What do you want with it?"
He's with the pack? That's weird, this wolf looks about the same age as he does. Maybe he's a newcomer or something? Still, that nagging part of his mind doesn't go away, and keeps pecking at him as if he should be noticing something. Again, Haben tries to shake his head to get rid of the pecking, but to not much avail. "Heh, well... it's my family," he says rather bluntly, a small smile worming its way onto his muzzle. "I've been away from them forever and I've been trying to find them since they moved from out in the forest." Seems they picked the farthest place possible to move to as well. "My name is Haben, and my sister used to be the alpha of the pack, if I'm in the right place that is."
Jarin has connected.
Lexus' entirely attitude changes when Haben introduces himself. He looks shocked, staring as finally the familiarity makes sense "H...Haben?..." he doesn't quite know what to think for a moment and closes the gap a few more paces to double check his nose...Haben. He suddenly bursts out laughing and bounces towards the other wolf "Haben!" he seems quite excited.
Haben tilts his head just a little bit in confusion when the wolf repeats his name. "Yeeeeess, that's me," he says, taking a small step back as the other wolf leans in towards him. Sure he doesn't look threatening, but can't exactly be too sure these days. Especially with him not getting any younger. The second outburst of his name, however, takes him by surprise. "Whoa whao, yes hi!" Haben says quickly, jumping back a pace or two at the sudden running at him, not about to get his throat torn out after all this. "And you are?"
Lexus is delighted and still laughs, bouncing on his paws even though Haben has no idea who he is "You idiot, it's Lexus!" it just wouldn't be brotherly love without a little name calling "Where in seasons name have you been all these years?!" his grin suggests he doesn't really care, he's just glad he's back.
If what the wolf had said next didn't completely catch him off guard, Haben might have thought he was close to loosing his sanity or something. As it it, right when he says his name, everything in his mind clicks. The voice, the scent, the look, everything! "L-Lexus!" he repeats, the smile on his muzzle suddenly growing in a big toothy grin. His own laughing starts coming from him, seemingly uncontrolably as the realization dawn on him. "LEXUS!!" he all but yells, running forward and driving himself into his brother, not even caring if he knocks him over or anything, just trying to get as close to his brother as he possibly can.
Lexus could probably dodge these days but what the hell, it's been a long time since he's got knocked off his feet by his brother. Sure enough he stumbles over with hit but he's quick to regain his paws and bounces around the other wolf, his tail wagging as quickly as possible "I was beginning to think you were all dead!"
Haben doesn't even care if his joints yell at him for taking the leap into something solid, figuring it's totally worth it. Even as he bowls over his brother and quickly gets back up, he can't stop laughing, feeling like a cub again. "As if anything out there could kill me!" he replies, puffing his chest out a bit. Seems his pride hasn't left him in the slightest. "I went away for a bit but when I tried to come back you were all gone! Took me forever to track you all down. But how have /you/ been, I've missed you!" he asks, practically bounding forward to give his brother a playful nudge on his shoulder, his tail going equally as fast, if not faster only because he has to be better than his brother.
Lexus is above such petty rivalry! Which clearly means he's better. He laughs, he can't stop either "I know! I had the same problem. They keep moving around, be thankful we're not all still out in the desert" he nudges back and aims a happy little nip at Haben's ear "I can't even remember the last time I saw you! You got ooolllld" so did Lex of course though he's certainly not acting it now.
Haben could honestly care less about how old he may or may not look, he's just too happy to see Lexus again. He can't remember the last time he saw his brother, but it must have been some time when they were cubs since he doesn't remember seeing his brother before he left on his own. As far as he remembers, all his siblings kinda did their own thing, but Haben had always felt close to Lexus, even if he hasn't seen him in forever. "Yeah, your not looking to bright yourself there," he teases right back, as if they never lost their brotherly love. "So... how have things been here? Do I even want to ask who's still around?" he asks, figuring that not a lot of the family he remembers could very well not be alive anymore.
Lexus straightens up, trying to look dignified and important "I think I've ages rather well actually" at least he only spends about twenty percent of the time complaining about it, that's pretty good. He probably was closer to Haben than all his other siblings, it's weird to think how long it had been. Wow that's a lot of news to catch him up on. He calms down a little as a deep breath is taken and he considers where to start "Well...We're not Viridian anymore and Cotton's gone. You remember her kids?" was he even around to meet her kids?
Haben takes a seat where he is, the smile on his muzzle still just as large as ever even when the tone becomes a bit more serious. His smile does falter a bit when Lexus says that Cotton is gone, but he probably shouldn't expect anything else. After all, if they are getting up in the years, Cotton would have been ancient by now. "Aww, Cotton's gone?" he repeats, hanging his head just a bit but not letting it bring him down. Cotton was always the one who he hung out with, even once he had grown up a bit more out of cubhood. She always seemed to know how to be there for him even after Mom and Dad had left. "Oh yeah! Umm... I know Shag, I used to play with him all the time, even when he got a bit older... Other than that though, not really." He feels a bit bad, never having really been around the family as he got older. Still, doesn't mean he can't make up for it now.
Lexus has had a long time to get used to most of the changes but the mention of Shag combined with the memory of the morning still earns a small frown. He sighs faintly and flops down to sit as well, he'll get to Shag in a minute he decides "Well her other son, Tariro, is now the alpha and if you remember the Lazuli pack we're now joined with them, under the name Cerulean. Shag was the beta for a while, had some pups...his mate died late last year and he's not around anymore either"
If there was one thing that could bring him down, it was probably that. He had always remembered hanging around Shag and even helping him learn to hunt when he could. Hearing that he was the beta for a while made him smile happily, but that quickly faded at the other news of his mate's death. "Ohh... Well hopefully he'll come back, I'd imagine he would need some time to himself." Haben has never really had a mate, so he wouldn't exactly know. Being on his own had it's perks, no doubt, but never a mate. "Well, how have you been? I mean, last thing I remember of you we were hanging around a log with Cotton pupsitting us!" he says, laughing at the memory.
Lexus nods slowly "So do we all. Can't be easy, Tariro lost his mate too but it was a long time before that" another quiet sigh and he gathers his thoughts to carry on "New beta now, not one of the family" somehow that's still important to Lex, he wishes it wasn't. He chuckles at the thought of them all when they were puppies "Yeah, I remember that too, that log was good for howling through! I couldn't even find it the last time I was up in the mountains" he's not the playful pup he used to be, nor is he as arrogant and obnoxious though, it's somewhat of a fair trade for maturity "I wonder where the others are these days, I haven't seen any of them in years"
Again, the laughter takes hold of Haben from remembering such a simple thing. Life seemed so much simplier back then, without having to worry about hunting, what's behind your back, and all the other things that can suck about growing up. It feels kinda weird too, knowing that most of his family is gone, either away from the lands or just moved on in the world. Even if his body has grown up, Haben can't really say he's dropped the pupish urges of random challenges that mean nothing or his big ego, more like it's been reduced. "Yeah me neither. Still, at least I got to see you again," he says to his brother with a smile. "Now I get to bug you again just like the good old days," he says, but the grin on his muzzle shows he's just kidding... Sorta.
Lexus gives Haben a very flat look but it doesn't stretch past his eyes as he's still happy to see him "Oh joy, all that respect and wisdom I've carefully constructed over the years is going to come crashing down the moment you meet the others and start telling stories isn't it?" he exaggerates a very deep siiiiiiiigh and rises to his paws "Come on, I'll show you where the pack is staying, if I'm lucky they'll dog pile on you before you can get a word in" he smirks back at Haben. Considering most of the pack will never have met him dog piling was perhaps unlikely but a brother can dream.
