Tariro - m. Wolf (Alpha)
Maka - f. Wolf
-----------------
-- Two-River Fork --
-----------------
Tariro has been checking out the local area and the possiblities of remaining in the forest. That was several days ago leaving the rest of his time away a mystery. Returning to the fork, the white wolfs coat is somewhat matted in places and lined with browns and greens, not bothering him the slightest. Stopping at the rivers shore he dips his head to drink.
Maka has been wandering. It's part of her general nature as well as her self-imposed position as pack 'scout'. With the temperatures getting warmer, the prey beasts are more plentiful, and she's got to keep tabs on them. Returning from her travels, the gray wolf moves between the trees with her usual calm grace, in no great rush to get anywhere just yet. As she peeks out from behind a tree, though, Maka smiles. "Tariro." Tail-wagging, she steps forward. "How're you?"
After quenching his thirst, Tariro glares at his reflection and is a tad surprised at how bad he really looks. Moving into the river for a quick dip, he shakes in the shallows. After a while he makes back for the shore where he shakes once more, taking a seat afterward to lick his coat dry. He doesn't get far with it however, flicking his ears to Maka's voice. A smile to his own face as he looks over to her, "Hello Maka." he greets. "I'm well, hows yourself?"
Stepping out of the underbrush, the young wolfess pads over towards him and gives an affectionate bump to the alpha's shoulder, offering him a small smile. "Better now that you're around." She teases, and then lowers her own head to get a drink. Her ears twitch, and when she finally raises her head again, the wolf settles and gives a small shake, sending little waterdroplets flying. "Spent the morning watching the deer herd. They've go good numbers this year. Good food once they fatten up a bit."
Dripping a little, his coat falls into thick uneven layers as it air dries making him look like one who really needs to groom. About to give himself another shake before Maka comes stepping over and giving a bump, he stops himself returning it as she drinks. Settling himself with her beside him he smiles. "Thats good to hear, we may need them this year." So, her day was better with him around; he was glad to hear that. "It been good having you here, Maka." He says softly shaking out his coat, finally, smoothing out his look. "Though you know what would be even better.." He pauses looking from her. "If you'd stay here.. with me, in the pack." Loking back to Maka he gives a nuzzle just as sudden and unexpected as his words.
"Oh? Planning on bringing in more mouths to feed?" She asks, chuckling with her usual playful manner. It's moments like these that sometimes make her seem younger than her age. When he shakes himself out, her ears duck and she blinks slightly, the spray hitting her fur. "Hey, I don't need a shower. It rained a few days ago." She's got that gentle sort of smile, though. "Well, it's been good for me, too. I survived another winter because of being here. It's a good life. I might even start getting pudgy from the regular meals." She isn't - pudgy that is. A paw lifts at her nose, but she stops half-way through grooming at the words that follow. Not just the words, but the nuzzle that comes with it. The surprise seems to melt into a shy sort of look, and then she laughs, just softly. "Well, I was hoping to stay. I have to admit, I'm fond of the company." She muses, and offers the usually quiet wolf a lick right on his nose.
It was a thought. He has taken notice of the closeness in few of the pack so anything could happen, but it never hurt to know where to find a decent meal either. That possiblity in mind he silently meeps as he showers Maka with his shake, so not his intention. "Sorry." He says sheepishly. Listening to her afterward he smiles softly. He was always grateful to help those in need during times of struggle, especially during winter. Looking for any kind of reaction to his last words, he tries not to look nervious knowing he probably put her on the spot but he'd really like her to stay but not 'just' stay. The laugh comes to him in a kind of surprise. Did she think it funny he'd ask such? The question is pretty much answered by the lick. "I ask you to stay then." He tells her. "Stay here with the pack.. and me. Let us learn and grow together."
"Don't worry about it." Maka easily dismisses his apology, not taking any great offense to being wet. She licks at her paw and rubs it over her nose a few times, then raises her head again, offering a smile. "I'll stay then." She replies simply enough, her tail swaying against the ground. Leaning towards him, she bumps his shoulder with her head. "I kind of figured I was staying on anyways. You know, when no one kicked me out come spring." She's teasing again and it shows in the smile on her face. "So, I heard you made Coinin beta." Another topic, one that had filtered through to her ears.
Tariro was relieved to know that Maka was going to stay, even when he knew she was going to anyway with or without him asking. Chuckling some he says, "Great." Bumping her once back he raises brow to her inquired statement. "I did. My brother did well but with his prolonged absence I could have the pack be portrayed as just myself at its lead." He tells her. "I've found Coinin to be one of Beta quality. He's protected the borders and brought guidance.. he's quite suitable for the job."
One of Maka's ears twitches, although it may just be some lingering water irritating it. "Mmm. He seems nice enough. And I'm sure you could use the extra help." She lets her ears fold down a little. "You seemed, kind of overwhelmed up until recently. Like you held the whole world up on your shoulders." She steps away from the river bank then, and flops herself into the grass unceremoniously, rolling onto her back and wiggling around in it as if she's got an itch. "It's good to see you smile. Loosen up a little."
At times it did feel like he held the world on his shoulders; his choice to assign Coinin with the position was something Tariro felt confident about. He didn't need to worry every moment of the day if everyone was well or necissarily be there when one crossed the border. He had more time for himself- time he planed to use carefully. "I do feel better. He's done me a favor, in time I hope to return it." Watching Maka move away and practically plop onto the ground, he moves over to follow but rather than copy her, he settles down onto his huanches. "What of you now, what would you like to see happen?"
After the itch is so neatly taken care of, the wolf rests her paws against her chest, looking over at him. "Me? I'm... not sure." She shrugs her shoulders, then flops over onto her side. "I've always been a sort of 'live for the moment' type of wolf, I guess." Her tail thumps slightly against the ground, and the girl gives a lick at her paws before head-tilting at him curiously. "What about you? Got any big plans? Summer is coming. You could always take some time, travel up the ranges. See if you can't find some wild wolfess to steal your heart and make you feel like a pup again."
Itching a spot of his own, Tariro curls an ear out to listen to Maka as she give a response. It was hard to know what one wanted out of life for themselves or even someone else but Tariro found himself the exception. When the pack was small he had plenty of time to think; as it grew such thoughts weren't addressed as much. Now, however, they seemed to have resurfaced. "I always hoped.." Paused by the end of Maka'a words he smiles. "I already have." He stands up and move closer. "She's right here." It was obvious who he was talking about but would she pick up on it.
At first, Maka seems oblivious to the thoughts going through Tariro's head, but when he pauses, she lifts her head to look at him again with those golden yellow eyes. "Hoped?" Blink. No, she isn't so oblivious that she wouldn't realize what he's talking about. Her ears tuck back a little and the her expression draws a bit of shyness. For someone so outgoing, matters of the heart had never been quite her forte. "Tar..." She starts, "Don't tease like that." It's a nervous sort of response, as if she hadn't quite expected it and doesn't quite believe it, herself.
"I'm not." He says softly flicking his tail. Tariro wouldn't tease on an account like this. "If you'll have me..." Stopping there dropping back to his haunches. "It would make me happy." He hoped it would her too but he doesn't push his luck till he's heard it from her. If it was to soon he'd understand.
Maka's eyes search his for a time, watching him as if she were trying to read any sign of humor. It would serve her right to walk right into that sort of joke, but when he seems serious, she just blinks, tilting her head. Slowly, the gray and white wolf pushes herself to her feet, taking a step towards him, her expression unreadable. "You're really serious, aren't you?" She asks, although the truth of it had already sunk in. She looks up, offering a sort of shy half-smile. "I didn't think..." She starts to say, and then shakes her head, feeling silly. Without giving him time to see it coming, she leans in and nudges her head under his neck, nuzzling there. "It would make me happy, too." She murmurs.
Why would he joke about something like this. His heart was just as fragile as anyone elses if not more so. If she didn't want him it was fine but he had a feeling that wouldn't be the case. Holding onto hope, Tariro watches Maka closely giving nod. She didn't think what.. that he liked her? That he'd be so open after what happend in the past? It was because of that that that he did. His heart had healed and he wanted to move on. Trying to work out her broken sentence he is indeed taken by surprise by the nuzzling. First he wasn't sure how to respond but lets it pass nuzzling back from the top. "I'm glad."
Once that moment of acceptance has passed, the silver wolf leans back a little, looking at him with almost a bemused smile. "Guess... I figured with everything that happened that you'd be more likely to notice one of the others. I mean..." Words. Curse them. Maka just shakes her head. "So much for being the evil outsider." She muses, but her expression is beaming and there is that feeling in her chest like butterflies. Even Abel hadn't actually come out and said anything to her, as much as she cared for him, so this is a definite change of pace.
Tariro wasn't normally the one to just speak outwardly either but times have changed. His silence in the past had made him look solitary, tearing him apart from the inside; speaking was definitly a change. "One of the others.." He blinks down at her. What others he wandered. "You, the evil outsider." He tries not to laugh. "As interesting as that would be to see, I dont see that in you." Everyone needs some change in life, Tar just wasn't afraid to embrace it.
"Oh, you don't think I can be evil?" Maka asks, raising one fluffy brow before giving a little snarl and a snap of her teeth that just comes off more as 'cute' then as threatening. She isn't exactly the most fearsome creature, but ... she is a girl. "See. I'm terrifying." Even she can't take herself seriously and just laughs a little, moving to sit beside him so she can lean against his shoulder. All joking aside, she looks at him in a slightly different way now, trying to read from him where all this had come from. "Why now, though? I mean, why come out and say something? Not ... you know that I wasn't clueless 'n all."
Did he not think she could be evil? Any female could, their the ones to watch out for in his opinion. He might have strength but its she who knows how to hurt. Watching her snarl ane snap Tar simply smirks unthreatened. "Yes you are." While he doesnt look it he doesnt doubt her ferocity. When the demeanour changes he look at her firmly. "Why not say something. We all deserve to know what the other is thinking or how they feel." He starts. "I've never felt right through expression first. If I tell someone how I feel first, its easier to act around them." Had he kept quiet, it would of been like walking on egg shells for him.
The smile widens a little on Maka's face as she laughs. The girl had that sort of spirit to her, the kind of thing that made it easy to relax around. "Hmm. Well, I wouldn't have guessed." She admits, leaning over to nudge his neck with her nose. "You're... kind of hard to read sometimes." Finding a spot of still damp fur along his cheek, she puts a few licks to it, grooming it back. "I always thought you just seemed... lonesome." She admits, trying to show that smile again, "Figured you'd come around when your heart healed, you know? I'm glad you're feeling better, though. We worried." Obviously, it's not just her she's referring to, but her tail wags slightly anyways.
Tariro smiles leaning back into her. Maka wasn't the first to tell him that he wasn't an easy read. His own mother had said it once or twice, then his brother who knew him quite well. "Lonesome." He repeats. "Well..I suppose I was for a while. Losing the ones I cared for one after the other, its amazing I made it this far at all." Maybe it was because he held onto hope that he survived. Who really knows. "Theres no need to be worried anymore now though." Least about that anymore. Now it was just old age and poor leadship. "I've found a new reason to be happy." He smiles at Maka nuzzling her and a lick to the face.
Maka's ears droop a little bit, having heard some of the story of Tariro's past from the others. It is a sad tale, but she herself had lost most of her family, which is what had lead her here to Cerulean in the first place. "Well, you don't have to be alone, you know. The others care, I care." She admits this much, and just smiles warmly, cleary unsure of just what she should be doing. "And, I'll be here if when you need me. A heart's a pretty big gift, you know. I've got lots of work to do to repay you for it." Her sense of humor shows in that wry smile. She leans in to the nuzzle, and then finds something else to take her amusement. "I wonder how surprised the others will be."
Tariro knows the others, including Maka, are there for him. They are his pack, his family; if it wasn't for them, what worth would there be in living. Head shaking now he says, "You dont need to repay me anything." Its his heart to give to whom he chooses. "Having you had my side is payment enough." Least for right now anyway. "Oh I'm sure they'll be quite surprised." Nothing was ever said about them or even hinted. He'd be surprised himself if he knew someone had any idea.
"I should just curl up next to you when they're all asleep and then watch them /stare/ when they wake up." Again, the wolfess's laugh seems bright. Coming to Cerulean had really changed her outlook as well as her life. Finding a place to belong again, and more-so... this chance at finding love again. It's more than she could have hoped for. "I'm a little hungry. Want to go see what the hunting party has leftover?" If nothing else, arriving with the alpha might draw a few questions, and she's quite fine with that. The problem will be keeping the dopey smile off of her face.
Tariro chuckles, "However way you want to express it is fine with me." He asn't going to say anything at all at first, but if she wanted to go about it differently he could do that too. "Hungry.. we cant have that." He states standing. "Lets go have a look shall we." He smiles.
