Helaku - m. Wolf
Tariro - m. Wolf (Alpha)
------------
Two-River Fork
------------
The waterfall's mists rushed across the pool, eveloping Helaku at its shore. He closed his eyes, feeling the dampess coating his fur like the old days when he kept his scent to a minimum. Unlike his father, he had mostly dropped the habit of washing in a stream or creek every day, but he still kept himself 'clean'. His interaction with this pack progressed rather nicely since the winter and he saw no reason to leave. The wolf was not old, but not young, right in the middle. The days of excessive traveling were over. He'd seen enough of the world for a lifetime from the high peaks to the endless ocean. For now, he just relaxed at the pond, in the mist.
Another quiet night leaves Tariro in a rather peaceful mood, traveling the tree line of the borders, zig-zaging around the trees. With the waterfall getting near, a glance is posed in its direction; stopping in a small clearing to admire its beauty now that winter had relinquished its hold over to summer. The warmth of the air gave probable cause to venture near its waters but the white wolf was hesitant; that is till he spots the figure of another through the mists of the falls. Who it was, he had an idea, moveing over.
Helaku's ears slowly bent back. That feeling he wasn't alone tingled, though he couldn't confirm it yet. Tariro's scent didn't draft this way and the sound of the falls blocked out any other sound that may have come his way. He promptly turned about to face the other direction, his eyes scanning the trees for movement. He saw movement, but did not move himself from that spot. Was he being sought out for something? The White One approached, and it meant good or bad. It was hard to tell with Alphas in this region what their approach meant.
Moving up from the opposite side of the falls as to avoid the mists, Tariro's continued approach ends at the pool where he settles to his haunches. First nothing is said as he looks to the waters for a moment, tail bouncing out behind him. "Looks different without the snow." Breaks the white wolfs lips. "A good place to go and think; take some time to yourself." His ears roll forward as if expecting the other to comment.
Of course it looked different without the snow, and of course it was a good place for meditation. Helaku wondered if it was in Tariro's nature to state the obvious, or commentate matters to other wolves which may not consider thinking about the obvious. Then again, it was a simple observation made by a wolf that may have been older than himself. "Also a good place for speaking," said Helaku. "I assume that is why you're here." Helaku didn't move much except for the end of his tail. There would be no head-bowing, no grand gestures in dealing with other wolves as this one didn't seem to demand it.
It was a matter of opinion, the obvious. Not everyone saw with their eyes, a simple spoken observation suited such others well. Whether Tariro cared if the obvious was an aggitation to the other was unclear, a soft look to the pools deeps clearly not expressing it. Curling his ears back upon hearing Helaku he nods agreeing but then softly huffs. "What makes you think I came here to talk..." Sure he came here for some reason but to talk, what would he have to say to this one.
"You are Alpha," he said. "And you are here, I am here. Usually that means a talk." Helaku wasn't snappy about his words, merely observational. Alphas generally appeared when they had something to say, or so that was the practice back home, and in most packs. Wait on the Alpha, then speak. Always the same routine...except here. "Coinin has already spoken with me, so that leaves you. I didn't expect much when I arrived, but your pack has succeeded in places where others failed."
What does him being alpha have to do with him being here, Tariro was a wolf who saw another wolf. It was as simple as that. No attempt to talk has ever been made between them, why should not be any differnt; did he think the two of them showing up this evening meant something were to happen? Looking up from the waters Tar takes in the fresh warm air. "Coinin and myself are two seperate beings. He may speak with you, that does not mean I will do the same unless there is reason to." Looking to Helaku he says, "There something I should know about so as to give me reason?" He ponders this.
Helaku keenly watched the other wolf. Did the title simple not matter to Tariro as it did other Alphas? This was such a strange way of looking at things that Helaku was most unused to. His white eyes gazed back at Tariro. "Coinin wants me in Cerulean," he said. "Even gave me an order to...have fun. As much as I appreciate his efforts, I don't believe he understands that I am content where I am as I am unreadbale to him as you are to me, apparently." His tail curved about his launches, givng the slight accent to his words. "I've run your land long enough, patrolling it. I've seen to it that food has been delivered; Lexus and I hunted that deer. I have also seen to Maka after our intial dispute. Yes...there are several things you should know before I ask you, formally, a question I've been seeking you to ask."
Did the title not mean to him as much as it did to others, perhaps. Long has the pack been only family.. titles did not matter. Alpha was a word for those outside kinship. Tariro gained his status for who he was not his placement in the pack. Shaking out his coat he raises a brow to the notion of Coinin wanting him in the pack. "A suitable task for anything." He remarks. "Though not easy for all." Not every one was capable of having the same fun as others. Like a pup who found more fun splashing in a puddle where an adult was content with just gazing in the sky. "He means well." Listening now, he bobs his head some to the accomplishments Helaku has managed within the pack. "Then tell me. What is it that I should know so that I am able to answer this question of your?"
Those things that were to be said could now be heard. "I've taken fancy to Niyt," he said. "Everything that has followed has been due to her entering my life. I would have never come to the Cerulean if not for encountering her when she searched for Anoki. I'm not forthcoming about these feelings as I do not wish to press her. As far as I'm concerned, I am her eyes in the places she cannot see. Should anything, as unlikely as it is, ever happen to this pack I will care for her. The other regards Maka. Have you seen her recently?"
This wasn't to much of a surprise to him, Tariro noticed many things and this was one of them. However, it was not his place to even speak of. He wasn't Niyt's father, but her uncle. He could only offer so much. The matter of Maka was something different however. What did he have to say about her? Flicking his tail he hmms. "I have. Just the otherday infact." A union has been made between himself and her, but his silence remains on that. "What regards to you have of her?"
Good. She hadn't left, not that he expected her to. They had come to an understanding that neither were at fault for anything in the Ute--it was all on her sister. "Maka was to become the mate of my half-brother, Abel," he said. "And Abel was to have become Alpha at one time. This changed when a certain individual...you know the story, I'm sure. Because of this, she was robbed of her future. Because she was in my father's pack, and that now I carry on what my father started, she would have my loyalty as a pack member. That leaves me with the one question. Will you have me as a member of the Cerulean?"
Tariro listens further and is told something he already knew. Seems he finds out about everything at some point. Nodding nonetheless to what Helaku had to say a second hmm escapes him. Maka may have been robbed of a future amongst the Ute, but as a Cerulean its been recovered. That is not the matter at hard however, looking at the wolf as his question finally breaches the surface of his pool of information. In a way it sounded like Helaku asked to be a member because of loyalty to a set pair. What loyalty did he have outside of them? What benefit would there be to have this wolf amongst the pack? Could he trust him? These were all questions that needed answers. "You wish to be of Cerulean because of them? Surely there are other reasons that possess you into wanting to join us. Like skills. How do I know I can trust you?"
Helaku's ears turned this way and that. His question was a legitimate one, and he had a legitimate answer. "I'm convinced there is no place else for me, unless I become rogue again," he said. "However, it is not so much that I wish to be of the Cerulean as it is others having become fixtures in my faily life. Skills--I was rogue. Survival is my skill, and under that fall several things, but in regards to your last question I cannot answer it for you because I am not you, and therefore am unable to come to the conclusion of if or not I am trustworthy. It is not a question I can answer for another."
Tariro hrms and is silent thinking things over. He was uncertain if Helaku would fit in as a member of the pack. If he would become just another member and not one to keep an eye over; to cause constant shoulder looking. Maybe he was just being paranoid too. Its not like he had much to worry about but that wasn't the point. Tail twitching he takes a deep breath looking away from the wolf and to the waters. "You have given me no reason not to believe you wouldn't make a suitable addition to the pack Helaku. But our unfamiliarity with one another makes me skeptical." In brief pause, Tar looks back to the wolf. "I am willing to give you a chance however. I am allowing you to join Cerulean though under one condition. You must treat everyone here the same as you would anyone else." It was not a difficult or even a huge requirement just one he hoped would make things more comfortable.
Helaku slowly tilted his head. There was no tail wagging or smiles with this wolf, and by this wolf: Helaku. Running around, yappity yip-yap just wasnt his...thing. "There's no reason for me not to treat the others any different," he said. "Coinin, too, already has my loyalty as a potential leader should you or Lexus be rendered incapable of leading. It is a habit of mine to consider the possibilities of the future. I've given this more thought that likely any of you realize, for your benefit."
Tariro had just given him permission to join them and he goes about tell him his worked things out for the future. At times it felt like none of them were capable of deciding things for themselves when around Helaku. Another reason why he was so skeptical about this wolf. Picking himself up from his haunches, the white wolf stretches. "For our benefit, huh." He huffs. "I've granted you acceptance and all you seem to care about is who holds 'your' loyalty and what the future may hold." He smirks some. "Not the reaction I had hoped for.. but your welcome." Geez this wolf thinks to much. Shaking out his coat once more, Tariro takes a few steps away from the pool of water.
Helaku blinked. This matter wasn't exactly going how it should. It was too easy, and the way this pack handled itself didn't seem very packlike at all. In fact, it seemed improper if they had this much difficult communicating. "As much as I appreciate the acceptance, perhaps it is too soon. Our ways of communication do not balance in these formal matters." He too got up from the waterpool and started off. There wasn't any anger or hostile tones in his voice, only factual. "I will continue to be a guest and remain at your border, as per the guidelines I am acquainted. Good day, Tariro." And...he didn't trot or anything. He simply walked. The timing simply was not right.
Tariro does not follow suit but rather heads the oppsite way back into the forest. Helaku was a strange one, one he wasn't sure he'd ever understand or even know. "If that is what you want." He says as he walks off.
