Tariro - m. Wolf (alpha)
Gitchiwaakwe - f. Wolf
Maka - f. Wolf
------------------
Two-River Fork
------------------
A nice walk seemed perfect, right through the river; seemed to be the easiest way to cool off. Soaked, Tariro makes for the shore before shaking out sending water every which way as a slight breeze moves in. The chill seemed to be exactly what he was looking for. Moving on now from the river he heads toward the clearing where the pack rests checking on them.
Gitchiwaakwe pads through the forest to the fork in the rivers, following the confluence to where she thinks the pack might be resting, if scent is any indication. Some smells she recognises, but there quite a few new ones too. She picks up the scent trail of her father and lets loose a joyous howl, "I'm home!"
Maka is sprawled out just where she had dozed off not long ago, nestled into a pile of soft brush that has been trampled down and is conviently close to where Tariro himself sleeps. She'd been 'fairly' good about keeping up appearances, but now and again the female could be found with her head dozing against the alpha. The sound of someone's joyous exclaimation has her head lifting, golden eyes blinking as she stretches out her forepaws. "Mrrr." The wolfess gives a wide-mouthed, tongue-curling yawn. Then, getting to her feet, she looks towards the direction the sound had come from. The familiar form of Tariro is a welcome one, and she offers him a smile before approaching, "Who's this?" She asks, still a few lengths away from being able to greet them properly.
If there was one calling Tariro never expected to hear it was that one, looking up from his path and to its direction he looks puzzled. Everyone was here weren't they, then he thought perhaps it was someone new but the smell wasn't right for that. The words 'I'm home' strick him curious however as he looks to Maka when her presence is made via a yawn. A gentle smile on his face he has no answer for her but tends to find out. Letting out a howl in response to t he first, turning back to it.
Gitchiwaakwe rushes through the trees and barks happily, ducking her head respectfully to her father and subsequently attempting to lick his jaw. Having been gone for almost five months, Gitchi has grown from a serious, troubled adolescent to a full-grown female. Whining softly, she blinks back tears and lies on the ground in front of Tariro, showing submission and respect, and more than a little awe.
Just about the time that Maka reaches Tariro, reaching her head out in what was probably going to be an affectionate greeting, the form of the other female comes rushing out. It's enough to make her re-think her plan mid-motion and instead she just steps beside him instead, turning to face the newcomer... or not? Maka's ears twitch into a quizzical look. "Friend of yours?" She asks, seeming bemused more than anything else. Maka's smaller stature could easily have her mistaken for an adolescent, if it weren't for the fact that she's built like a full grown wolf. Her attention turns back to Gitchiwaakwe, though. "Hello there." She offers, tail lightly swaying behind her. Obviously this one is hardly a threat, at least that's how she sees it anyways.
Tariro is a bit surprised by the female rushing toward him and the actions she chooses to express herself with. First he had no idea who it was but when she back and drops to the ground it becomes obvoious. "Gitchi?" How long had it been? In his mind Tariro hadn't been the best father to his children, especially his daughter; there was so much he had missed out on. Watching Gitchi a glance is givin back to Maka when she steps beside him. "My daughter..." He states slowly dipping his head down to the young she-wolf to comfort. "Its been a long time."
Gitchiwaakwe makes a small murring sound in the back of her throat by way of greeting, then introduces herself formally to Maka after touching noses with Tariro and standing, "Gitchiwaakwe, daughter of Tariro and Aika. Blessed by the Spirits, too, but that's not really important unless someone needs healing or something bad is coming our way." She looks back to her father. "What has happened in my absence, Da?" She uses the old familiar name for her father, then ducks her head sheepishly. "Sorry, I mean Alpha.."
"Daughter?" Maka asks, but then the introduction seems to solve that problem for her. Of course, she knew that he had pups with his former mate, but she'd had little chance to interact with them. "Oh." Blink. With an amused chuckle, she shakes her head a little and offers a smile to the younger wolfess. "I'm Maka." No titles. She doesn't even mention the relationship between herself and Tariro. "Nice to meet you." With the excitement of the arrival over, she settles herself to her haunches, watching the interaction between father and daughter.
There was that name.. why did he think she wouldn't bring it up. It still hurt just hearing her name, but he's moved on and appreciative to at least have his pups in her memory. Hearing her speak of being gifted, he had nearly forgotten, spirituality having been a major thing on his brothers side not his. A smile on his face he head shakes. "Dont call me that hon. I am your father, call me as much." Nuzzling her, he looks to Maka as she introduces herself. "Maka came to us from the Ute." He says turning back to his daughter. "Shes one of many who have joined us over the winter." Looking around them for a moment he pauses. "Your uncle I'm afraid, is no longer with us. Where he has gone I do not know. He did leave you with a fair amount of cousins however." He says. "You'll likely see Niyt first. You'll notice she's got quite a bit on common with you." A smile peeks through, taking a seat. What else was there to tell her... he decides to just wait and see what questions she might have.
Gitchiwaakwe winces when she hears her Uncle is gone; she enjoyed his company, and he never treated her different from 'non-gifted' pack members, even when she pestered him for an entire night with questions. Immediately her thoughts go to her family, "And my brothers? Are they both still with Cerulean? Afra, how is my little ruffian cousin?" She notices the pain in her father's eyes and almost flinches, not remembering her mother much. She turns her gaze to Maka as she too sits on her haunches. "As long as you continue loving Father, we will be friends.. Hurt him, though, and I'll have no choice but to tear your soul into six pieces." She softens the statement with a smile.. She's always been protective of her father and brothers, even more so since her mother died.
At first, Maka remains somewhat quiet, although sitting still and listening really isn't her nature. Eventually, an urge to wiggle has her shifting, walking in a small circle before settling again. of course, that's when the comment from the younger wolf catches her offguard. Woah. Ears slicking back, she blinks, looking at Gitchi, then at Tairiro, then back again, then a third time to settle on the alpha. "Um. Is that what she means by 'blessed'?" In general, she's never put much stock in the spiritual beliefs of others, but having someone come out and say something that even the rest of the pack doesn't know is enough to make her start wondering. Still with that head-lowered expression, Maka looks back to Gitchiwaakwe, "Listen, I don't know what the future holds for us. I'm just following my heart. The threats... certainly don't make me feel like a warm and welcome part of the family." With a sigh, the wolfess just shakes her head. Trouble already.
It was a sad thing to hear about his brother, even now, he cant imagine what it was like for Gitchi seeing how close they were. "Hywel has moved on to other places." In fact he didn't know where he was. "Rockfall has remained with us. He misses you. As for Afra, he is here somewhere." Another he hasn't seen in a while. The last thing from his daughter strikes him odd. Why would she say something like that? Tar was certianly capable of taking care of himself. Maka was no threat to him and even if she was... "Gitchiwaakwe, there is no need for talk like that. She is family and you know very well not to harm anyone that is." Looking to Maka he says, "I'm sorry Maka, she does mean well."
Gitchiwaakwe blinks and shakes her head as if she has water in her ears. "What do you mean? I never spoke ill of anyone, I wouldn't dishonor you, Da, or Cerulean.." She grins a bit, still confused and murmurs, "I'm sorry if it wasn't public knowledge yet, but it's obvious, even if the wind hadn't whispered what is in my step-mother's heart.." She turns her gaze from Maka to Tariro and back, "I am thrilled Da has found someone to love, again.." Scratching her shoulder with a left rear paw, she blinks at Tariro's words. "Da, I'm shocked at you! I'd never hurt anyone, surely you know me better than that.." A little hurt, she takes half a step back from her father and his newfound mate.
Did she really show her feelings that much? Once more, Maka looks to Tariro, but this time she just offers a small smile and a shake of her head. "Bound to come out sooner or later, either way." Gently, she leans over and rubs her cheek against Tariro's shoulder, the first sign of affection that hasn't been interrupted thus far. It doesn't last too long, though, finding that the younger wolf catches her attention again. "Just Maka is fine. Step mother is... a little weird for me." She admits, seeming a bit sheepish about the whole thing. "I'm not here to hurt anyone, least of which Tariro. Just... we've been taking it slow because well... I'm an outsider."
"I know that you wouldn't, but empty threat share no purpose here." Tariro has never been fan of depicting the future. Whatever came to him he enjoyed as a surprise, surely his daughter knew that. Then again they did spend little time together; it was Shag who did. Reversing his attitude toward the situation, he stands. "Gitchi, I am really glad you are here." He steps forward after Maka's show of affection to nuzzle his daughter. "I hope you can get reaquainted with everyone, new and old." Mustly new as those from Viridian have run few.
Gitchiwaakwe squints for a moment before Tariro speaks, still baffled. "Da, I never threatened anyone.." She turns to Maka and walks over, and before the other wolfess can react, nuzzles her head under the elder female's chin. Sitting in front of her father's mate, she blinks and understanding dawns upon her. "Maka, I apologies if my spirit voice mentioned anything untoward..." Gitchi's ears flatten, the young wolfess shamefaced. "You aren't an outsider, Maka.. I am. I am blessed with foresight at times, and the ability to heal, but at times I might be possessed by a Spirit, and they speak through me.." She shivers. "It hasn't happened in a while, though.. I am very, very sorry if I have upset either or you.." She glances from Maka to Tari and back, ducking her head.
Confusion shows slightly on Maka's features, although she seems to accept the affection and returns the nuzzle to the younger wolf, tilting her head slightly. "Spirit voice. Strange." Rather than being too upset about it, though, she just shrugs her shoulders slightly, "You threatened to tear my soul into six pieces if I hurt your father." She explains, and then smirks a little bit. "I think I'd like to keep my soul in one piece, though. If you don't mind." She's clearly not taking the threat /too/ seriously at this point. Luckily, Maka is a hard one to really offend.
Gitchiwaakwe blinks again and nods, stretching and glancing at her father, then giving him a nuzzle and licking his chin affectionately. "Da, if it's alright with you, I think I'll have a nap.. Been travelling since two hours before sunrise... Wanted to get home before the day was out.." She yawns immensely and sits waiting for her father's permission to leave and seek out a good spot for a long, deep sleep.
Again he has forgotten. As Gitchi recalls how a spirit speaks through her Tariro remembers the day he first saw the spirit within. It was a frightful day, one he didn't understand, still doesn't. It was hard to Tar to remain upset over his daughter for long, his nature clearly not capable. "It is alright" He was somewhat use to it by now even if it was hard to tell the difference between the two sometimes. Nodding to her request he say, "Not at all. Again, its good to have you back." With that he nuzzles her once more. "Rest well." A smiles break his lips glad to see that she at least respects Maka even though she doesn't know her.
Gitchiwaakwe blinks and smiles to both wolves before departing, lowering her head respectfully to both, though slightly lower to the ground when she bows to Tariro. "May the Creator keep you," she says as she walks a bit downriver, finding a large unoccuppied rock and curling up on it, savoring the warmth.
