Ikuna - male adolescent wolf
Tala - female adolescent wolf
---Calm River---
The first time Ikuna got back from a patrol and found his sister absent, he didn't think much of it. She was probably off hunting, or else gone on some other errand. Maybe even... well, Ahiga was gone too, and so it wasn't too much to imagine that they might be together. When she still wasn't there by the next morning - not even a fresh scent to show she'd been and gone - Ikuna started to grow concerned. He'd have asked Ahiga, but the other adolescent was likewise not to be found. Less worrisome, given Ahiga's tendency to roam sometimes, but still. Eventually, Ikuna decided that Enough was Enough, and he set out to find those missing friends of his. He's been looking a while, casting along a modified patrol pattern and sniffing for their scents. He thought he found Tala's trail around the swamp, but then lost it among the water and mud - so now he's just continuing on, keeping his senses alert and looking.
Tala didn't come home, which isn't like her in the least. At the moment she is settled next to the river upon a smooth rock just watching it. A ear twitching now and then while her gaze follows after the few fish that catch her attention. A soft sigh escaping her and she lifts a paw to scratch at her neck a few times.
Ikuna pads along at a slow pace, looking from side to side between the trees. The ground is open here, and so he spots his sister as soon as he rounds a slight rise. There she is, and his tail wags briefly at the sight. He lifts his head, ready to wuff a greeting - and then stops. Something is not right here. He remains silent, lowering his head and simply padding down the slope toward her.
Tala lets her head settle back between her forepaws, a claw slowly sliding across the rock before she lets her forepaw drop down into the water with a faint sigh escapes her. Needless to say she isn't her normal self. Her ears perk forward at the sounds of movement and she lifts her head to peer off slightly and catches sight of her brother. Her tail sways a few times and she slowly shifts up to her haunches. "Hey Ikuna.." She offers before he says anything.
Ikuna wags in answer, and he comes up to meet Tala, leaning forward to offer her a nuzzle of greeting. "Hey, Tala," he says, and then hesitates. What to say now? Too many questions, from why she didn't come home, to if she's seen Ahiga lately, to how she's handling the news of Chewy's departure. After a moment of silence, he finally settles on the simplest of them, if maybe also the hardest. "What's wrong?"
Tala smiles softly and nuzzles back at Ikuna. "Guess you're wondering why I didn't come home." She's quiet for a moment before a faint sigh escapes her. "I had a talk with Ahiga.." Is said after a moment while she glances back to the water watching it with her ears lowered. "I told him how I felt but I said other stupid stuff so he thinks I like him only because his the only wolf around that I'm not related to." There's a pause. "I didn't mean it like that.." Her brother should know she isn't one good with words, out of them Ikuna is the one that can tell the stories, and remember everything that Chewy says and she doesn't tend to recall them to put it lightly. Even when speaking with others she tends to lose herself at times, seems this time it happened with Ahiga.
Ikuna nods softly. Yeah, that would be one of the things he was wondering. His ears perk up at the mention of her talk with Ahiga, an expression at once hopeful and anxious. His tail starts to lift when she says she told Ahiga - and then stops before it has a chance to complete even one wag as she goes on. "Oh," he says, because that's about all he can say. Of course she didn't mean it like that, but... well... yeah. His tail droops in sympathy, broadcasting his emotions as it always does. Ikuna can't keep a secret... but Tala can't share hers. "But... he's not, even. I mean... there's Anoki, when we visit him."
"He hates me.. You should have seen him." Tala offers quietly. Emotions are such a bothersome thing! A ear twitches as she hears Ikuna. "Anoki is nice an all.. But he's not Ahiga." There is a slight pause. "Even if Anoki was here and stuff I'd still like Ahiga.. Not that it matters now." What was said was said and its hard to take words back after all.
Ikuna lowers his head, ears splaying. Why do things have to go so... so like this? "No... Anoki isn't Ahiga. He's... it's different." Ikuna sighs, staring down at the edge of the river where the little waves splash up against the shore and watching a fish briefly break the surface. Speaking of Anoki... but they aren't, not really. There's nothing near this amount of tangled emotions around the Cerulean wolf. Ikuna is quiet a bit, and then lifts up his head. "I'll talk to him. Ahiga, I mean."
Tala shrugs slightly while her gaze drifts over the water. "I.. Don't think it'll matter with Ahiga. You know how moody he can get." Heck she remembers when he got hurt over the fact that Ikuna and herself brought down that deer. She shifts on her paws and makes her way off the rock as she starts to slowly head back towards home, tail swaying limping behind her.
Ikuna opens his mouth to protest, and then closes it again. She's right, is the problem. Ahiga does get moody sometimes... and so can Tala, for that matter. They do it in different ways, but odds are good that Ahiga is So Very not going to want to talk about it. The next few moons promise to be exceptionally awkward between the two of them. Ikuna lowers his head, staring down at the surface of the water as his sister heads back toward the den. "I'll still talk to him," he says, too softly to really be heard.
Tala is quiet as she moves along, yes she gets very moody.. An she's never said that she didn't! "If you want.." She offers softly as her bright gaze drifts over river. "I..I just hope he still wants to be friends with me." To lose Ahiga friendship over all this would be a real hit for the young wolf.
Ikuna turns back from the river after a while and comes after Tala, letting his legs stretch long to catch up with her. "He'd better," says the young wolf, his tail lifting up in brief challenge. "I'll chase him from one end of the packlands to the other if he's _that_ stupid." Never mind that the two males are about evenly matched when it comes to fighting. Ikuna will find a way.
Tala is quiet as she hears that while the two move along heading homwards. "No.. I'd rather you didn't lose your friendship with him Ikuna.. If he doesn't want to by my friend anymore then I'll deal with it." It's like she's already attempting to get used to the idea of Ahiga hating her.
Ikuna takes a step to the side, trying to nudge his shoulder to Tala's as they walk along. "How'm I supposed to be friends with him if he hates my sister?" he asks logically. Wait, what's logic doing here? Is that even allowed? "I'm gonna talk with him. I... well, I am." The male ducks his head, suddenly awkward again and looking off to the side at nothing in particular.
Tala is quiet while she moves along, her ears twitching forward and then lower. "Well.. It may be strange but.." She pauses in movement and talk and sighs. "I guess it will depend on what happens.. ust have to wait and see huh?"
Ikuna turns his head back to look at Tala, and he nods. "We'll just... work it all out." (Somehow.) "There's gotta be a way." (He hopes.) "You'll see." He leans over to nuzzle her cheek, and offers his best smile... though it's obvious he's still rather worried.
Tala smiles faintly to her brother and noses back at him. "Thanks Ikuna.." She offers with a soft tone.. Suppose we should get on homewards before someone else comes looking huh?"
Ikuna smiles a little more genuinely, and nods. "Yeah... before Skahla thinks we've gone off wandering again without telling him." Their brother has more than enough to worry about between his puppies and Wachiwa's journey without needing to add their own adolescent drama into the mix.
Ikuna smiles a little more genuinely, and nods. "Yeah... before Skahla thinks we've gone off wandering again without telling him." Their brother has more than enough to worry about between his puppies and Wachiwa's journey without needing to add their own adolescent drama into the mix.
Tala ear twitches and nods slightly at the talk of Skahla, oh sure he may be her older brother but she still doesn't think that he likes her.. They haven't had much of a conversation in well.. forever it feels to her.
Admittedly, Skahla doesn't seek out many conversations period, and expresses his opinion of others even less. He's sort of like that. Ikuna's had more interactions mostly because he's sought them out and not been put off by the alpha's gruff exterior, and even he hasn't had that many. He doesn't pursue the topic, though that leaves him at something of a loss for what to say. Is there any subject that isn't an emotional thunderstorm lately? He's having a hard time coming up with even one! "C'mon. Let's get home," he finally settles on, and starts walking again.
Tala hasn't tryed to have a conversation with Skahla, but then why would someone try if they feel the other could possibly hate them. "Sure." She offers while she continues forward, her tail swaying a few times behind her in the process.
Ikuna walks along in silence with Tala, still trying to think of a topic - any topic - to talk about safely. The puppies are a double no-go, between Hadir's illness and the mega awkwardness between Tala and Ahiga over Wachiwa's comment. The Chewy-Wolf herself is problematic because of her upcoming departure. Skahla... well, the issue has already been demonstrated. Ahiga is... well.. yeah, which pretty much also counts out any of the group's past adventures or future plans. Hmmmmm. Oh, hey! There's a topic that might be safe. Might as well give it a try! "I wonder what Anoki's up to lately..."
Tala takes in a soft breath, ears perking forward while she glances over the area. "I dono.. I bet there having fun where ever they are." You know not worrying about stuff like they are right now!
After all, isn't Anoki the only youngster in his pack? Yeah, that must be great! None of these awkward moments and uncomfortable silences! Why, he's probably totally uninvolved in romantic entanglements, and has absolutely no conflicting loyalties or worrisome emotions to deal with! Such a lucky wolf he is, being all alone. "Yeah," agrees Ikuna. "He's probably having a great time... especially with all these fish around. Just feasting and playing..."
"But knowing me I'm wrong." Tala says with a faint mumble. "I mean I know he doesn't have many his age there after all." A glance is offered over to Ikuna and she smirks fiantly. "Maybe we should go vist him soon?"
Aww. Ikuna noses at his sister for being all down on herself, though she does sort of have a point. Still, it can't be /that/ bad, since Anoki does have the rest of his pack. As for a visit, "Well... maybe. It's going to be winter soon, and... with Chewy gone..." He trails off a bit. Between feeding the pack, taking care of the puppies, and the difficulty of travel in winter, he's not so sure they can find the time.
Tala nods slightly. "I know it won't be easy.." She offers. "Maybe we should get together and do a hunt tonight for the pack an all?" This questioned while she looks over to Ikuna.
Ikuna nods to Tala. "That seems like a good idea," he says to her with a smile, but he's still considering on the other subject. After a few moments, he perks up his head with a thought. "Hey... if you want... why don't just you go visit him? I mean... the pack can handle being down one better than..." Better than three, he was going to say, but then there's the awkwardness with Ahiga making him not sure whether she'd want him along in the first place. He coughs, and rallies his argument. "You could go have some fun, and... it'd give some time for... well... thinking stuff over. For you and Ahiga, I mean." Not to mention remind the other male that Tala does-so have other options.
"You're better friends with Anoki then I am." Tala offers not seeming to thrilled with the idea, a ear twitching as she glances over to him. "Anyway.. With Chewy gone all of us are needed for hunting right?" There is a pause as the part about her and Ahiga is brought up, her ears lower a moment and she looks at the ground. "Well.. maybe I should.."
"Chewy's not gone yet," says Ikuna. "Not until the first full moon after snow falls, she said. So as long as you started back by then, it should be okay." He leans over, and noses her gently. "It's up to you. Just let me know if you decide to go... I can tell everyone else." Like Skahla... and Ahiga.
Tala smiles and nods to Ikuna. "Well that's good.. Maybe I can talk to her before she leaves.." There is a pause, her ears perking while she looks to her brother and nods. "Sure.. I'll make sure that you know."
"Yeah," Ikuna says. Maybe Chewy will even have some sage wisdom to help Tala out! She's a girl, right? Shouldn't she know how all this romance nonsense works? Besides, she's the one who started this whole mess, so she should at /least/ have advice for his sister, or maybe some explanations. "I'm sure she'll find some time for you, if you ask."
Tala nods at this and trots forward once more. "If you see her before I do will you tell her that I want to talk to her?"
Ikuna nods, stepping out with Tala. "Sure," he says, and then the two of them continue on to home sweet (full of awkwardness) home.
