Characters: Ahiga, Ikuna, Lilac, and Tala
Setting: Waterfall Pool
Scene:
Summer time, hot save for the breeze that can at times be found blowing through the waterfall area. Tala is settled near the waterfall, front legs stretched out before her and she soon yawns. Her form shifts and she stretches more before just flopping over in a rather lazy like manner.
Summer. So hot! Wolves still need to eat, though. Ikuna went out in the brief cool of the early morning to hunt, and perhaps search around for other reasons as well. He at last returns from that, a pair of feathery quail dangling from his muzzle. The hunting part, at least, seems to have succeeded.
A fox, wet from a swim, makes her way south from the Fork to the north toward the thundering waterfall. She seems oblivious to the wolves present until, well, its rather hard to miss them. She halts, shrinking a bit in panic, but instead of turning away immediately, she tilt her head left and right in that curious canid fashion. The vixen might be recognized as having appeared a few times over the years by Ute on the far shore of the river that had been their border. She has tended to be skittish, though, not lingering long when she had noticed the Ute previously.
Tala lifts her head and peers out towards the movement, a faint wruff like sound escapes her as she catches sight of Ikuna. She shifts up onto her haunches, stretching as she goes in the process. "Hey Ikuna." A ear flicks forward, nose twitching, is that the scent of a wet fox? Her gaze flicks around a few times.
Ikuna goes 'pffuwf'. Such is the sound of a greeting through a mouthful of feathers. He sets down the two quail, and smiles. "Hey, Tala. How've things been here? Quiet?" Because quiet is a good thing, at least... lately. Though things have rather settled down, since... the end of winter and this past spring.
Lilac should probably run, but ... thus far the wolves aren't attacking. She whines softly. She takes a moment to twist-shake herself, showering the grass near her with residual water from her earlier swim across the river.
Tala licks across her maw, nose twitching. "Hey, an ya everything has been quiet. Which I an't gona complain about." This said with a slight nod of her head, an flick of her tail. She peers at the quail. "Where did you find them at?" Her ears flick forward and there is that scent again, and now movement? She hums and shifts up to her paws to look over the area before she catches sight of the fox some distance away. "Fox.." Is offered to Ikuna to alert him, but really it’s just a fox!
Ikuna nods to Tala's answer, then hehs. "Up past some rocks that way," he points. "Got lucky and surprised them." Otherwise, they surely would have taken flight long before he caught up. He turns to look where Tala points, but, well... it's a fox. There are usually foxes around, and they're no threat to any wolf save maybe pups in dens. He nods to her, then picks up one of the quail again to carry it into the cave. Speakin' of pups...
Lilac swallows her fear -- in a rather sizeable gulp -- and slowly walks forward, slinking her tail underself in submission and fear. She does not get too close, but does get in conversational range. She dips her head in a bow. "Y-y-y-you ar-r-r-re .... U-u-ute?" she asks quite nervously and shakily.
Tala grins at her brother and nods. "Good for you." She offers with a flick of her tail before she glances back towards the voice of the fox. A faint hum escapes her. "Why would you want to know?" Is questioned after a moment.
Ahiga has been a wanderin', as he's prone to do. Checking up on things. Then always back to the pool to rest or talk or play, which he's been doing a little more of. His ears push forward as he nears the gathering place of the pack, hearing voices. Ikuna, Tala, and... a fox? He quirks a brow as he approaches the three of them, arriving just in time to hear the fox's stuttered speech. "Woah..." He snickers, greeting Tala with a headbump. Ikuna is off delivering food so he'll greet him when he gets back. "Somethin' got your tongue, fox?"
Lilac says, managing to swallow her fear even more to calm her voice, at least a tad. "I l-lived n-near wher-re y-you us-sed t-to-o, no-orth ... ac-cross the river-r. I s-saw the b-bully d-dogs. They k-killed or drov-ve out m-many. I d-don't kn-now w-whether an-ny of m-my fr-riends m-man-naged t-to get to safet-ty. Ther-re wer-re sev-veral of us ... f-foxes l-like myself ... and a c-couple of c-coyotes. H-have ... c-could ... would you k-kindly tell me whether y-you have see-en o-other foxes or c-coyotes since you left your h-home?"
Tala watches the fox for a few moments, her ears lowering slightly and a faint snort escapes her. "I see.." I said with a soft tone. Her gaze turns to Ahiga and she shifts to nuzzle back at Ahiga, her tail swaying around and she smiles. She lets her shoulder press against his while she looks back to the fox. "No I've not seen any foxes or coyotes.. Have you Ahiga?"
"Hey...calm down fox. Nobody here's gonna eat you," Ahiga assures with faintly raised brows. "Never had fox in my life, an' I ain't gonna start now." It's his attempt at calming down the obviously nervous creature, and it takes him a little bit to understand what she's asking due to the stutter. He glances to Tala, then ohs in comprehension. "No. Haven't seen either one," he reports with a light shake of his head. "Sorry," he offers with a light frown. "You've been lookin' for them all this time?"
Lilac bows her head as she realizes the wolves aren't going to eat her ... at least, not now. She nods her head to the yellow-eyed, young brown, gray and white male wolf with the black undercoat. She manages to calm a bit further and says, "T-thank you for t-trying to help me. I h-hope you are able to teach those barking brutes a lesson someday. I know you must be sad to be far from home ... I am too ... but I am more worried for my friends than some dusty old dens. I hope all of your pack managed to get her safely." Her voice transitions from nervousness at conversing with the wolves to sadness over her absent friends.
Tala eyes the fox as she hears Ahiga. "I haven't eatten fox either.. But they haven't given me a reason too either." This said with a mostly joking otne. "Could try further down by following the water?" Well it’s an idea.
Teach them a lesson. Wouldn't that be a dream come true, but it's a far off one. Their pack ...really isn't ready for a war. Still too few in numbers. Some, still too weak. "Yeah...someday.." Ahiga replies to the vixen, smirking a little. "Was the only thing I thought about at first after it all happened. Goin' back an' takin' them all down. But.." a glance is given to Tala, and he gently nose at her cheek affectionately. "I dunno. M'kinda seeing things different now." He looks back at Lilac now, nodding in response to Tala's suggestion.
Lilac cringes at the joke. "My name is Lilac, by the way," she says. "I thank you for your patience and trying to help me."
Tala is quiet for a moment and glances to Ahiga, a soft smile seen and she lifts her head to nuzzle against his chin while she smiles a moment. "Of course.. I hope you’ll be able to find your friends an everything." She offers with a nod of her head. "I'm Tala and this is Ahiga, and yes we're of the Ute pack. Which.. for the moment we are staying here."
"Welcome," Ahiga offers to the fox. See? He /does/ get along with other creatures! It's just dogs that he has zero tolerance for. "Good to meet ya, Lilac. M'sure your fox friends 'n coyotes 'n whoever else'll turn up. We were all scattered around too, but we found each other. Like Tala said, followin' the river's probably gonna be the best thing for ya, cuz there aren't any coyotes or foxes 'round here." He pauses before offering, "good luck," to her too. He glances up to the cavern where Ikuna disappeared into. Hm. Maybe he's not coming back. Probably Wachiwa's talking his ear off. Or those...pups, though he's not even sure if they're talking or not. Not that he cares.
Lilac nods. "Thank you ... and be well," she says, turning around to look elsewhere for her missing friends.
Tala leans against Ahiga and curls up a but while she relaxes. "Oh I'm sure he is just talking to Chewy." She offers softly while her head presses against Ahiga's shoulder. "So where you been wandering?" A nod is offered after the fox as the animal wanders off.
"Yeah.." Ahiga replies to Tala with a slight wrinkle of his nose. He drags his eyes away from the high cavern to instead nod to Lilac as she heads off, truly hoping that she finds her friends. He couldn't imagine being separated from Tala or Ikuna for very long, not knowing what became of them. "Ah, jus' around. Up the river a little," he says to Tala, smirking. "Hopin' I didn't catch Brutal or Grim's scent. No luck, though. They've been around." He snorts. "I don' see why Skahla doesn't jus' tell'm to hit the road. Apparently, they're stickin' around til he tells'm to leave. So said Grim, anyway."
Tala makes a face at that and snorts a moment. "I suppose it is better to go that route though.. Skahla is alpha." Her head settles down to the ground peering at the water. "We can't really do anything unless they do something so might as well go along with being civil with them until speaking with Skahla." Makes sense to her.
Ahiga quirks a brow at her. "Civil?" he says with a smirk, looking amused. "You...be civil with Grim? Yeah, I can see it now. The two've you are gonna end up bein' best friends," he snorts, chuckling afterward. "C'mon, we've /been/ civil with'm. It doesn't matter how nice we try to be, they'll find anything to make it seem like they're the victims here. I tried bein' civil with Grim the other day, an' all that came from that is me likin' him less than before. They'll always throw the 'we saved you from the dogs' thing in our faces. And Skahla.." he turns his eyes from her, glancing around the pool, "is around jus' as much as he was before to complain to. Like, never. At this rate, we'll be stuck with Tweedle Dee 'n Tweedle Dumbass forever."
Tala makes a face at the talk of Grim. "Whatever.. I said civil to a degree.. Next time he tries to touch me I'm gonna rip off his ears." There is a pause and she clears her throat while a forepaw lifts to scratch at her neck a few times. "No.. I don't think they will stick around. We can talk to Skahla about it, he'll have to see if they really want to stay and follow his lead or not. An if not then we can chase frick'n frack off."
Ahiga grins. "Yeah, I thought you'd see it my way," he says, lifting a paw to poke at her side. "I hope you're right though. Grim's ready to leave, an' I'm ready to see'm off. But he says he's here til Brutal leaves, an' Brutal's here til he's run off by who's in charge." His eyes roll. "Aaanyway. My point is, this place is feelin' less like a home with those two here. An' if we ever do go home an' those two are with us? It'll never feel right to me." He pauses, tail flipping. "Is Skahla even' talkin' about what we're gonna do now? I mean, we're all healed up and can move if we wanted. Nothing's keeping us here, is it?"
Tala nips out at his forepaw a moment and wruffs playful like. "I know love.." She murmurs softly at the thought. "But.. I don't think if we got our home back that it would feel like home now though Ahiga." This said softly and she frowns. "With everything that happened?.." Her head settles upon her front paws again and her eyes close. "I dono what Skahla wants to do, not yet at least."
"Well how about what we want to do? Do you think he even wants to know?" He looks down at her as she settles her head down, and after a moment he lays next to her, nuzzling at her ears. "I feel ya, Tala. I dunno if I even want to go back anymore. I did at first but..." he shakes his head. "You're right, it's not gonna be home. Nothin' but bad memories. You guys lost your parents there. Ikuna was kidnapped from there. Hadir's other sister died there. The dogs attacked. It might be better if we jus' find someplace new. New lands. It jus' feels like we're stuck here, waitin' for Skahla to make a move or whatever."
Tala smiles softly at the nuzzle and shifts to cuddle closer to Ahiga for a few moments, a soft murmur escaping her. "I'm sure he knows something about stuff." She murmurs out softly. "I think we should try to find some place new and start out fresh.. Somehow.."
A brand new adventure. Finding new lands. A fresh start in a new place with memories yet to be made! But where? Ahiga knows little of the world other than Ute lands and a portion of Cerulean. What else is out there? It's a thought that sparks something in his chest. Excitement? Maybe. Likely. "Then /that's/ what we should tell Skahla," he says decisively. "It's better than stayin' here with no plan, guests to Cerulean. What do you think Ikuna thinks?"
Tala nods slightly and glances to him, a soft smile seen and she gives his cheek a soft nibble. "I'm not too sure really, I suppose we're have to ask him what he feels on the matter." She offers softly pondering a moment. "An yes, it is better then not having any plans an being here forever I'd have to say. I wonder where we should go though.. Someplace new perhaps?"
"As in.. like not mountains.."
Ahiga nods in reply. "No mountains," he agrees. "Too rocky 'n rough an'...stuff. I bet a wolf could fall off a mountain, too, an' we'd have a lot more to worry about than jus' havin' crooked tails if that happened." He grins, returning a nip to her cheek playfully, his tail thumping against the ground a bit. "Wherever it is we go an' find, it'll be a place that's even better than our old lands. Lots of places to run. Lots of prey. Rivers 'n lakes to jump in. Caverns to hide in.. y'know, in case anybody wants to be alone for a lil' bit." He grins and lays his head across her neck, ears splaying in comfort. "Let's ask Ikuna what he thinks later. Then maybe we can all talk to Skahla. Get his butt in gear."
Tala chuckles and smiles while nodding. She peers over at Ahiga and hums before lifting herself up to her paws and nips at his neck a few times. "Lots of places to run and hide huh?" Amusement is seen across her face and she rests in a playbow for a moment as she wiggles on her paws, her tail flicks around and she soon bounces back a few steps. "So.. Want to try out that 'lots of places to run' bit..now maybe?" Time to have a little fun!
Hey! Where'd his pillow go? Ahiga raises his head as Tala gets up and starts nipping at him. His ears lift up at that playbow, and a grin stretches over his muzzle as he sits up, eyeing her. "Ooh so I can beat you at this game jus' lke I did at the water slidin'?" he says smoothly, his tail beginning to wave. "You must like bein' /second/ best, Tala!" Mwuaha! Fully grinning now, he hops to his paws and automatically bounds after her, wruffing playfully as he gives chase.
Tala glowers at him faintly and soon snorts while she turns and takes off running. "Well come on then! An you know I beat you with hat other game so don't even try it Ahiga." She calls out while running in the other direction as quickly as she possible can while laughing.
"Ha! In your /dreams/ you beat me!" Ahiga barks in her wake, a playful glint in his eyes. He's right on her tail, chasing her happily. This is what he's missed! Happy and carefree times with best friends, not worrying about dogs or half dog pups or how his feelings may not mesh with the feelings of the pack as a whole. Just simple play with those that he cares for. His legs stretch long as he runs, just a pace or so behind her, not gaining or falling back. And he'll continue to chase her til they're both worn out, or til he catches her (or rather, til she allows him to catch her!), or whenever! It doesn't matter. He's just happy in this moment with her, and that's what's important.
