Characters: Ahiga, Kurux, Nonkene, and Tala (Ute wolves and wolfdog pups)
Setting: Waterfall Pool
Scene:
It has been a good day for the Ute. A deer has been brought down, a meal for them all! Well, for those who have gone out and claimed some for themselves after the dinner call had been made! The mighty hunters have fared well, and have returned as heroes (or at least, food bringers) and have earned a rest. Ahiga is laid out near the pool, a paw dipped into the water and head set down. His eyes are open, watching the water's rippling surface as the waterfall thunders down.
Thus far Kurux has spent the vast majority of the time in the cave with his mother and sister while making the occasional journey outside. This whole outside thing is pretty darn cool. His mother has told him to stay in the cave, but it has to count that he isn't all the way out right? Besides just cause his mother tells him to do something doesn't mean that he has to do it all the time right? He's perfectly capable of making his own mind up about things like this. He glances around and soon enough spots Ahiga. This is a new individual. He has met most of the pack members, at least by smell, but this one is completely new and so he does the sensible thing. He starts to bark at him to catch his attention.
This is totally a prelude to a nap. Laying by the water after eating a good meal. Nobody around. Kinda quiet if one can diregard the constant noise of the falls. Yup..a nap is soon to come, and already Ahiga's eyelids are feeling a bit heavy and start to droop. He'll probably have a grand dream about the hunt, the dream of course starring him as the impresive lead on the hunt. Just a few centimeters more and the view of the world will be blocked and dreamworld will be welcome. He's nearly there...but hopes of sleep are jarred by a sudden alien noise. What the heck is /that/ sound? His ears lift just as quickly as his head does, the abruptness causing a brief feeling of dizziness. It doesn't sound threatening, but it doesn't sound familiar either. And gosh, won't it /stop?/ He sits up, ears swiveling until they pause in the direction of the den. There's something there. Something smallish and.. ugh. His ears fall back, muzzle wrinkling. He hasn't seen the pups once, even avoiding Wachiwa in order to avoid them. Perhaps ignoring it will make it go back inside? He tries that, turning his eyes away. Nothing to see here, mutt-thing!
Tala is there, she is sleeping though settled down near the cave. A ear slowly perk, a soft snuffle escaping her in the proess and she looks around a moment while taking in a faint breath. Her head slowly lifts and she peers around while a yawn escaspes her and she shakes her head. "Ello.." Is sent to whom all might be around, she hasn't fully figured out whom is nearby just yet it would seem.
The mutt thing is not particularly interested in stopping. After all he just got out here and he intends to continue to do this until he gets the attention of the focus of his attention. This one acts differently than the rest of them. Tala has been rather kind and so has Asku and Skahla, and even Ikuna. The rest of them show a great deal of interest in him and this one does not. Thats certainly odd behavior. He catches sight of Tala. Now he knows her and she was pretty cool. He isn't particularlly verbal yet and doesn't know everyone's name but he has some of the more important words down, "Hi." he says with a bark.
Oy, and it /talks/ too? This is just getting worse and worse! Somehow, putting the pups out of sight and out of mind kind of kept them out of existance. His friends didn't speak of them when he was around, likely for good reason, and so it was easy for him to pretend that there were no pups. Unfortunately, those blissful days seem to be coming to an end. Ahiga’s eyes lift to the sky as if asking for something. Patience? Escape? Perhaps his prayer has been answered, for Tala is here. Tala can distract the thing, and the thing can be entertained by Tala and he can go on with his merry pupless fantasy for a bit longer. He rise to his paws, sending a chuffed greeting to Tala before he bends to drink. Keep ignoring, that is key.
Tala slowly shifts up onto her haunches, a forepaw lifts to scratch at her neck a few times and she looks to the pup and chuckles. "Well looking whom has come out to go wandering.. Does your mom know that you’re out?" This questioned with an amused tone to the pup and hearing Ahiga she wruffs out at him, her tail thumping.
Kurux is sadly no so easily ignored. With Tala here he feels safe in leaving the cave. At the very least his mother's warning to stay in there has been temporarily forgotten. He walks all the way out of the cave toward Tala and barks at her. He doesn't really have the words to answer the question, though he pretty much gets the jist of it, "Mom." he says in response. Yep...he loves his mother. What little puppy wouldn't? Satisfied that he has answered the question he turns toward Ahiga and walks over in his direction. This adult is defective obviously...he isn't like the rest. That causes a tiny bit of worry for a moment before he just stops there and stares as if to say 'Hey man whats your malfuction?'
Slurp, slurp. Ahiga drinks til his belly feels as if it'll burst with water, but the longer he's drinking, the more likely it is that the pup and Tala's interaction will become so involved that he can slip away undetected, right? .. Wrong. As he rises and turns, water dripping from his muzzle, he finds the half dog closer than he was before. It's like a scene from a scary movie! One minute, the demon child is far away, and in the blink of an eye, it's staring you right in the face! His ears remain folded back as he regards the pup with the same sort of expression that he's giving him. Stare. It's the first time he's seen him up close, and unfortunately, the look of him screams dog. What's up with that big head of his? And his curly tail? And those weird eyes? All in all, he just looks... wrong. He snorts out a breath, breaking his thought. "What?" he asks, lip slightly curling.
Tala tilts her head while watching Kurux move over to Ahiga. She shifts up onto her paws and follows after the pup. Once near Ahiga she leans over to nip at his side, trying to get him to behave it seems. Her gaze lowers to Kurux's and she wruffles out a moment. "Why don't you go on back to the cave, huh?" Well it’s a try!
Sadly the un-mother's attempts to shew him away from his mission go largely ignored. He plans to go back to the cave when he is good and ready to go back to the cave. After all his mother isn't here to make that happen for him and unless one of the pair plan to carry him back to the cave he doesn't plan on going willingly. He glances quickly to Tala and snorts, "No!" he says clearly. Ahhh the word 'no' the most powerful word in the world and he wields it like a pro now. Mwhahhahahah. He turns his attention back to the 'defective'. He doesn't really respond to his question with words but rather with actions. He attempts to dart in and sink his teeth into a paw if he is able. He also enjoys biting. Ever since he has gotten his teeth he has been biting all sorts of folks...his mother, his sister, Tala...himself. Pretty much anything that he can get into his mouth. Most of the time his mother tells him to stop right away, but she isn't here and what she doesn't know won't hurt her.
The nip to his side is regarded with a glance to Tala, and Ahiga makes a sort of face as he looks back to the pup. Not only is he weird looking, he's /bad/ too. He lifts his ears as the youngster blatantly defies Tala. What a little brat! Granted, he's young. Maybe he doesn't really know what he's saying but...he sure timed that 'no' right! His expression flattens. He knew nothing good would come from dogs, and this little dog spawn is proof of that. See? He told them. He snorts a little, a dismissive sort of sound. He promised Ikuna he'd try to tolerate, but he can feel that tolerance (if once can even call it that) slipping away. Time to go! "I..." he begins, speaking to Tala, but he doesn't get to finish. Why? Because there are puppy teeth grinding against his paw! "Hey!" His growl is a near immediate response, as is the lifting of his free paw which is swung out to swat at the pup. Not a playful, haha you bit me! swat. More of an ow, you BIT me, get off! swat to the head.
Tala sighs as she hears the pup. "No huh? Get over it.. I said.." There is a pause as the pup runs forward and she just blinks as he bites Ahiga?.. Oh dear. She steps forward, a paw moving to press between the two if able to seems. Her paws carry her forward, her hip moving to push and bump into Ahiga to try and get him away from the pup to make sure nothing happens here. If the pup was flung about and get hurt or something!
Kurux loves biting. Perhaps it’s just a habit, after all his mother was a chewer too, hence her nickname...or it could be that he has a violent aggressive streak in him and just loves to hurt others. Too young to really say. Though one thing is for certain he does have a temper. He really wasn't suspecting the blow to the head as no one has really ever hit him before. Sure his mother has bumped him or taken a swat at him, but nothing like a swat in anger. He reels backward a few feet from the force of it. THAT HURT! Unacceptable! "Owwwwww." he says for a moment before the event really sinks into his mind. When it does the ow is replaced with something of a puppy growl. Uh oh...enraged puppy, batten down the hatches! Tala's arrival is opportune because if she hadn't gotten there when he did he would have gone after Ahiga again and it wouldn't have been pretty.
It wouldn't have been pretty...for Kurux! Ahiga will put a puppy in his place! Not that he ever had to before, as the only wolf pups he's known have been Skahla's brood, and they were /good/ pups as proper wolf children are. This kid obviously needs some discipline, and with his bastard dog dad not around to do it (not that he would), Skhala too preoccupied with his own problems, Asku more or less too wayward to deal with the pack anymore, and Ikuna .. well, being Ikuna who is more likely to tell a lesson giving story than a much needed box to the head, it may be up to Ahiga to be the disciplinarian! A job he's totally up for. "Yeah, /ow/. That's what happens when you bite in non-play," he sneers as Tala's hip pushes against him, causing him to take a backwards step, ears perking at that growl. "Really?" he laughs then, though the sound is spiteful. "Beat it kid, you don't want it with me."
Tala eyes Kurux thinly a few moments and lowers her head to eye the pup and snorts out at him as she works on making him move back a few steps. "I know your mother would be very mad to hear you bit a packmate." She murmurs out with a soft tone as the tries to hold back her anger it seems. Her tai lashes to smack out at Ahiga to try and get him to be quiet it seems.
Kurux doesn't really know any good nasty words yet, which is probably for the best because he would be hurling them at Ahiga. He might even spare a few for Tala since she just happens to be standing there. But as it is all he can do is stand there and and sort of puff himself up as best as he can and just sort of growl and froth at the mouth a bit. Ok so he drools a little...no harm there. One thing is for certain though this pup is angry! And for the most part this is all directed at Ahiga. At this point all he can do is glare at him.
Pft, ow! Tail to the face! Hey, what'd he do other than try to teach some valuable life lessons to the little brat? He's helping! *cough* In a way. Right? "And there are /two/ of these mongrels?" He glances to the cavern, half expecting another big headed monstrosity to be staring at them with gnashing teeth. "Awesome. This is gonna be amazing," said with a roll of his eyes as he steps back a few more paces, getting out of tail whipping zone. "Cait wait for more of this. Bet Wachiwa's made up new stories with fake half breed spirits in them to fill their heads with nonsense an' make'm feel like they're normal."
Tala lifts a brow and snorts.. Oh no he didn't! She reaches forward very quickly and moves to try and grab Kurux by the scruff and haul his little arse up into the air. "Little brat.." She rumbles out around his scruff if she is able to get a hold of him. And while she hears Ahiga she keeps her attention on the pup for the moment, must put him in his place!
Kurux doens't really do anything as he is lifted into the air. In his mind this is all very unfair. No one else has treated him like this and now all of a sudden whamo. This Ahiga is most certainly going to be on the bad list from here on out unless he can prove himself to be different than this first meeting has gone. As he hangs there he can only parrot back the word that he has heard from them that obviously means something negative, "Brat!" he shouts at Ahiga.
There are a pair of blue eyes in the entrance to the cave, and a pair of floppy ears. They belong to a small girlpup, Nonkene standing with just one paw outside and... watching. Those baby blue eyes are wide.
Won't Wachiwa be proud that one of her son's early words has been picked up by him? Well, by him and Tala. It's Tala's fault! And such a lovely word it is. Unfortunately for Ahiga, he's kind of in the same boat as Kurux. There's not much he can do. Arguing with a pup is beyond childish, and further cuffs to the head would be unnecessary as he hasn't done anything other than...being born what he is. And unfortunately, that's not enough reason amongst the Ute wolves for him to turn Kurux into a new chew toy. And so he merely watches as Tala takes charge and lifts the pup up, a look of dislike painted all over his face.
Tala keeps a tight hold of Kurux and just lets him hang there in the air. She is not a happy wolf at the moment! She soon lets the pup drop back to the ground and her head lowers to try and push him into the dirt slightly. In order to make him stay down and on his back no-less. "You do not act this way towards pack members.. Your mother is not going to like what you have done Kurux. And yes I will be telling her."
Kurux is pleased to be back on the ground, but isn't so pleased to be pushed into the ground. He had rather liked Tala and it seems that Tala is one the side of the other wolf. The one who says things in a mean tone and everything...I mean look at Ahiga he's the naughty one. Tala's threat isn't really something he cares about at the moment. He probably will care about it later when he has had the time think about it, but right now he is to much in his fit to care. He fixes Tala with a glare now, "No!" He shouts at her. Not like he can stop her of course, but that doesn't mean he can't show his disapproval.
The big wolves are being mad at her brother. Nonkene tilts her head to the side, considering for a moment, but she doesn't actually seem all that concerned by it. Why, that might even be a wiggle of her tail... or maybe it's just puppy appeasement behavior. Either way, she puts another paw outside the cave, looking over to the tall grass on one side and the big roary thing on the other. Neat!
Tala smirks at the glare and doesn't seem to care much on it. A soft huff escapes her in fact. "No huh?.. You should be the one saying no to yourself you darn little fuzzy butt." She settles herself down upon her belly, forepaw still pressing the pup into the ground as she waits for the pup to give in it seems. She can DO this alllllll night if she has to!
Speaking of Wachiwa...where is she when you need her? She should be here taking care of all this! Ahiga is not being of any use right now to Tala, not that he /could/ be. When a halfbreed puppy is having a tantrum, what does one do? Who knows. Probably the same thing you'd do with a true blood pup...but he doesn't know the answer to that either. Plus, not feeling very friendly towards Kurux is not helping matters much, and poor Tala must deal with this on her own. Sooo, he stands up and begins to move, giving one last glance to the cave. And...lo! There /is/ another one looking out. Granted, not with gnashing teeth and all that, but.. there it is. Ugh. Ambushed!
Kurux is a stubborn little being. He has no intention of giving in to Tala. He really doesn't know how things work yet, but it would seem wrong to give her the satisfaction of having beaten him, even if it was such a little thing. He just continues to glare at her. He briefly ponders trying to bite her but for the moment decides against it. Other methods are required, "Mom!" he shouts. He's not calling for his mother because he feels abused, he just wants her here to tell off these two and put the situation right.
When Ahiga's gaze falls on her, Nonkene looks back and offers what's definitely a wag of her tail. Compared to her brother, she's tiny. Smaller than an average wolf pup of her age, even; so between her and Kurux, there's a great deal of contrast... not all of it physical. She takes another couple of steps toward them, and as Tala smushes her misbehaving brother into the ground, Nonkene... wags her tail, and gives the little 'hullo, adults!' whine.
Tala continues to hold Kurux down, the touch firm but not hurting at least. "Kurux.. Your mother is asleep. I'm not hurting you so, deal with it." In other words NO you’re not getting up yet! Her gaze turns over to the movement of Nonkene and she smiles warmly. "Hello Nonkene!" Is said with a happy tone.
The time of hiding them these creatures really /is/ over, isn't it? If Kurux's emergence from the cavern hinted at it, the second pup's arrival confirms it. Much like with the first one, Ahiga kinda just observes her. Definitely siblings. They have that same weird curled up tail. She's tiny in comparison though. His eyes glance from the still whining male to the more amiable looking female. Hrm. Probably still a brat though. Likely, it runs in that dog blood of theirs! His expression is difficult to read. Not exactly warm and welcoming, though he seems intent on lingering, perhaps not wanting to feel run off by two pipsqueaks. "Lemme know if I need to box his ears," is said to Tala as he settles onto his haunches where he is. "An'...there aren't any more've them, are there?"
Tala shakes her head slightly. "Naw.. Just the two." Is offered back to Ahiga and watches Kurux a few moments.. She keps holding him down until he finally falls asleep. A faint huff escapes her and she flops onto her haunches while peering up at Ahiga. "You would enjoy boxing his ears wouldn't you?"
"A little bit too much," Ahiga admits with a faint scowl, watching the youngster fall asleep. He shakes his head, eyeing his bitten paw. Granted, the pup didn't do any damage, and other than the pinprick of teeth, it didn't hurt too badly. But still, he bit him! "I should've bitten'm back. Would've taught'm a lesson he wouldn't forget," he snorts as he lays on his stomach, still giving Nonkene glances every now and then, as if just to make sure he knows where she is.
Tala smirks and leans over to nuzzle at Ahiga, she even gives his paw a few licks. "No.. It would have been bad Ahiga." This said with a soft tone and shake of her head. "I'll have to talk to Chewy about this. It can't continue.."
Nonkene wags her tail even more at Tala's greeting of her, and smiles a little puppy smile as she pads closer to the two adults... though she seems to be heading more toward the Ahiga side than the Tala one. The female's still got her brother, after all. "H'lo."
"His bitin' rampage? Yeah, no joke. He's gonna bite the wrong wolf one day an' get his nose bitten off," he replies, too irritated to even return Tala's nuzzle. Is he coming down a little hard on the pup? Possibly, but when one has a bias, it's difficult to shrug things off. An ear turns, hearing another's approach. Uh oh, it's the other one! His ears press backwards a little, and he keeps a close eye on her...and her teeth. Meh. It's not going to be so easy to ignore this one. "Hey." Well! It's more than Kurux got! This is a good thing.
Tala nods slightly to Ahiga about the biting rampage. "ya that." She offers while shifting away from the sleeping Kurux and presses close to Ahiga for a few moments. She smiles to Nonkene. "Your alright if you want to come on out. It's all safe here.. Really.."
The backward ears from Ahiga get the wag of appeasement from Nonkene, and the little puppy-whine that, in a slightly different tone, would mean 'feed me' but in this one... just means 'hello, adult of my pack!' She looks over at her brother, then up at Tala. "Ru bad," she informs the adult female.
Ahiga gently wiggles his nose, testing the girl pup's scent. He supposes he'll need to learn them and remember them. And their names. He doesn't know what the boy's name is, nor does it seem as if he cares to learn it right now. Tala called this girl something.. Non...kuku? "What's her name?" he murmurs, sounding as if he doesn't /really/ want to ask. His ears perk up a little, catching the youngster's broken words. Ru bad? Ru? He eyes the boy pup. "Yes he is." Heh, probably not the best thing an adult could say to the sibling of a pup but..well! "Are you bad, or are you good?"
Tala smirks as she hears Ahiga and leans over to nip at his ear softly. "Her name is Nonkene.. And she is a good pup of course." Her tail thumps about a few times on the ground while she looks back to the little pup. "An't you good?"
At this age, Nonkene smells mostly of Mama. She's just starting to get her own scent strongly enough to not be washed away by baths, and that scent... well, it's got a family commonality with Mama Wachiwa, but it's also got a commonality with dog. The little girl smiles all nice, at least. She nods at the mention of her name. "Nene!" Okay, so maybe she's not the best at this talky thing, but she tries. She looks back to Ahiga, doing a headshake and then a nod. "I good!" A giggle. "~Good grass~" It's the start of one of mama's songs, but then she can't remember the words, so she just goes 'o-o-ooo' instead.
Ahiga gently flicks an ear at the nip, though it does at least inspire the first small smirk that's been seen since Kurux's arrival. But the awkwardness with Nonkene is still there, not quite sure how to take her. Though different from her brother in size and, apparently, demeanor, she still is ... a dog. Her talking, her giggle, and even her puppyish singing.. all of it triggers the desire to laugh, or giggle himself, or bat at her in play. But his prejudice of dogs makes even such simple things difficult. She shouldn't /be/ here. And so instead, he pushes himself up to stand. "Gonna check 'n see how much've that kill is left. Shouldn't be too long."
Tala smiles while she watches the little pup, a soft murr escaping her while her head lowers. "I haven't heard that one in a while now." Her tail sways and she soon looks over to Ahiga, wishing he would adjust more to the pups.. But it is what it is and she'll deal with it. Her gaze turns back to Nonkene. "Want to sing it to me?"
Nonkene looks up at Ahiga as he rises, understanding nothing of the reasons for his awkwardness. She wags her tail again, then looks back to Tala again. Sing for her? "Okay!" she says eagerly. Of course, she /still/ doesn't remember the words, but... "~Good grass, o-o-ooo!~"
Ahiga leans down to nuzzle at Tala's ears in departure, eyes closing in silent thanks for not pressing him so hard on this pup thing. There's obviously no running from it, and facing it is going to take ... a while. Pulling back, he opens his eyes and allows his gaze to linger on Nonkene as she sings her song so happily. The edge of his muzzle pulls up a fraction of a bit, but it's a short lived look that's gon before he even turns. "See you," he says, possibly to the both of them, before he heads away.
