This is where the test begins! Ahiga vs. Silence. And what a battle it will be!
Because already he's biting back words. Already, he's fighting down the surge of annoyance that rises in his furred chest as his pack is insinuated to be a group of weaklings unable to fend for themselves without the mighty Brutal acting as their noble, selfless, savior. Really?
Even his poetic response irks him. Can nothing be simple? Must words be danced upon and drawn out with in such figurative depth every time? What does this wolf have to prove? And what makes him believe that they wish for him to prove it to them, or even /need/ it to be proven?
Sigh. Silence is hard. Focusing too much on Brutal is going to make the task even harder, and thus Ahiga allows his focus to separate and eyes to wander to their surroundings, taking note of where they are, the posturing of Grim, the lingering scent of rain and wolf. Rain and wolf.

Unlike with Ahiga, the alpha who continues to keep his focus primarily on Brutal, especially once Grim stops trying to draw some reaction from the younger members of the pack, has no problem with Brutal's poetic speech. He has no problem with the concept of fate or destiny, and he is familiar with the idea of fighting against it. He has no problem with Brutal pointing out that their pack is not in the position of strength that any alpha should like it to be. And he certainly has no problem with the fact that Brutal speaking has encouraged his brother to stop being a pain.
As such, his tone remains relaxed even if his hackles are still up in response to the step closer that Brutal is to them, now. Nor is he hesitant in answering the question. "What I expect is for respect to be given to each member of my pack, and to the land we inhabit, whether it is ours or not. If you, or your brother, have a problem with that, you may go. You have no obligation to a pack you do not respect, and we have always taken care of ourselves just fine, through all the troubles we've had. Don't allow your conscience to keep you here against someone's will."

For his aid on the hill, Brutal has been thanked. If it was the right thing to do, why does he still concern himself with it? Nothing in what Skahla said seemed to ask that question - at least not to Ikuna's ears.
Like his elder brother, Ikuna's attention ends up mostly on Brutal now. The talk of fate and destiny makes him frown, though it's not as harsh an expression as it might have been in months past. Still, the idea sits poorly with him, despite his recent overtures toward spirituality. That peace is fragile and fragmentary... but this is neither the time for those discussions, nor the wolf to have them with. Brutal can believe what he wishes, and Ikuna need not judge nor argue.
It's a different part of what Brutal says that makes Ikuna speak up, adding his own words after Skahla's. He doesn't move forward, keeping his position slightly behind the alpha, but neither does he hesitate nor seem uncertain of his right to speak. "Things are never finished. If you wait for that... you'll be waiting forever." He glances to Grim, impatient with waiting, and back to Brutal again. "You have our gratitude," he says again, repeating his own words - but now he repeats Skahla's, as well. "You have no obligation."
"We have survived before." Even in his own life, he's seen that. Learned that, up close and personal. The stories of Ute's more distant past have only underscored that lesson - well, and another one. Ikuna quirks one corner of his muzzle in a faint smile. "We have failed before. I would rather try to learn from my mistakes than let them haunt me."
Once, Ikuna made the mistake of blindly trusting a strange wolf; one who came to him, and spoke authoritative words that made it seem she knew what was going on - that she knew what had to be done, and that she would help him. That was a mistake. Now, Ikuna tries to learn from that mistake; to speak to a strange wolf, to extend some trust - but to keep his eyes and ears open, to consult with his pack and judge carefully.

Tala takes in a faint breath as she hears the question from Brutal, her gaze flicking from one brother to another that stand before her and her family around her. As for Grim? Yes he gets under her skin, on her nerves and one of these days his going to push her to a point that she will most likely attempt to do more damange then just chewing on his ears. She's not a small wolf after all, an knows how to throw her weight around when needs be, something she often thanks her mother for.
The words from Brutal are heard, she flicks a ear slightly while she takes it in, a slight breath escaping her but still she is quiet. She is doing her best to not comment on what was said, as she has plenty of things she COULD say.
A ear perks towards Ikuna and she offers a nod to what he say. She feels the same it would seem. Her nose twitches, the breeze angles towards her as she catches sight of Atlhaea once more, a faint frown crosses her maw and she leans close to Ahiga to whisper something. "Do.. you catch Althaea's scen from their direction?" Their being Brutail and Grim.

Out-Of-Character: Judas Priest, I apologize in advance for the size of this thing. But since I'm only averaging one post a day due to insistent crap IRL, I like to try and address everyone's pose equally and make it worth while. Because I know it sucks to feel ignored when you're taking the time to participate. Sorry Tala, you drew the short stick this round. Brutal is not exactly oblivious to Ahiga's annoyance, for the sigh of exasperation is caught, rewarding the young adult with something of a glance. But there is no glint of disapproval or offense in this brief gaze, but rather, the smallest hints of mirth. Or maybe just an appreciation for irony. Because as much as the two appear to dislike one another, Ahiga has come to remind him, in ways, of his brother Grim. Simple, but never simple-minded. Impatient, but not entirely hasty. And self-opinionated, which may or may not be swayed even after much convincing. But Brutal isn't of the mind to force any of these wolves to like him. He isn't here to prove himself to them, nor does he need their approval. despite what they might believe for themselves. Brutal's struggle for acceptance, is strictly personal. The massive wolf's gaze is already returned to Skahla well before the Ute Alpha speaks, but as he does, Brutal is patient to listen. Only after the white wolf has finished does Brutal seem prepared to respond, though before he begins to speak, the voice of Ikuna draws his attention to the crooked-tailed male. A wolf that in times past, seemed to be the self-elected speaker, or alpha, during the long days of Skahla's absence, leaving the dark wolf to wonder if this was preordained, or if the young wolf took up the responsibility by his own accord. It suited him well. And while Ikuna seems to suffer the same distaste at the idea for any further assistance, at least on the brothers part, Brutal remains fair in his judgment and in the end, chuckles a small agreement. "You are right, nothing in life is ever finished, so long as one draws breath. But, it can be resolved. And nor do I doubt the Ute Pack's ability to prevail without the likes of me or my brother." He pauses here, taking a moment to regard the group as a whole as his thoughts turn toward a certain young she-wolf who is not currently present, save for scent alone. "I've been shown that you are a resilient family, and perhaps I have misjudged you all in that. But, I have also been taught from my own family, that the strength of a wolf is in the pack and it is a foolish wolf who turns away honest help." As a last thought, Brutal turns his yellow eyes back to Ikuna as he thinks back to something the wolf had just said, and it is Ikuna who he addresses directly now, "As for learning from mistakes, I do try. Sometimes I fail. But for most, like you wolf, mistakes are the way to enlightenment. A way to start again, hopefully, a little wiser. Though some never learn, I think." A slight smirk touches Brutal's muzzle and he even gives a small gesturing jerk of his head toward Grim. The expression isn't long lived however, drawing instead into a small frown as the humor leaves his voice. "The mistakes that haunt me, cost much more than my dignity. My mistakes are for the loved ones I failed to save, and no matter what I learned, I cannot bring them back. Mistakes like those, I would not wish any wolf to endure." This said, Brutal's attention returns to Skahla, "As for respect, I have come to find, has many different expectations between wolves. Where some only expect conciliatory comradery, others might insist upon near obeisance. Whatever your idea of it may be, Skahla, Alpha of the Ute, I will attempt to match by example." And, not to leave his rebellious brother out of it, Brutal finally turns his great head to set a more particular gaze upon Grim, "I will also see to it that my brother does so as well." Looking back to the pack of Ute wolves, Brutal once more lets his regards consider each of them, before looking to Skahla, who he offers a respectful bow of his head, so far as to even drop a powerful shoulder in a further gesture of courtesy. As he draws himself back up to his impressive height, the black wolf inhales a steady breath, only to release it with the sound of a careful thought, just before raising a question of his own. "If it would be acceptable, perhaps my brother and I could spend some time officially among your ranks, rather than as a couple of outside rogues? Maybe then, you can judge us for who we really are and not as we have been perceived?" Distracted as he is with the situation and doing his best in exemplifying the proper diplomacy for it, Tala's whispered observance to Ahiga is completely missed. Though even had he noticed, Brutal's hearing is not so keen as to detect her hushed words. ----- As far as Grim is concerned, if he were ever so fortunate to be enlightened, he'd decisively point out that Brutal can keep his humorously ironic thoughts to his damn self! He is /nothing/ like Ahiga! And gah, when is his fool of a brother going to stop babbling at these idiots and just accept the fact they don't want them around? Whatever happened to a /simple/ 'thanks' and 'good luck'? Then again, maybe it's his fault they have come to this? Isn't that the usual way of things? Grim was born and shaped to be a scapegoat and apparently, he's the only one here who has consistently performed their lot in life! Which, isn't a lot, but hell, it's a life! The memory of what was and what could of been fades from Grim's reflective mind, but the smaller of the brothers doesn't yet return to his attempts of taunting the younger generation of Ute; as tempting as this is. Instead, Grim retains a interest in his brother's words to these pompous wolves, though the emotions he invest in this interest dances between two very contradicting oppositions. What is reveled, however, makes Brutal seem like a opened book. It wasn't always like this though, and it is perhaps this very oddity, that stays Grim's usual misbehavior. Not that Grim himself would agree with all that has been said, but just about the time he considers disagreeing, he discovers himself caught up in a gaze that Grim is fairly certain, was developed by his brother, just for him. Now that's real sibling love! Okay. Fine. He'll behave. But noooo..Brutal can't even be satisfied with this, and the question raised afterwards leads Grim to GLARE at the back of his brother's skull with a intense gaze of his own, as if willing the flesh there to melt off along with whatever part of his brain has constructed this retarded ideal of harmony and accord. MELT OFF DAMMIT! Okay, maybe it's more of a squinty-eyed leering, as if the sun was in his eyes or maybe a bug just kamikazed itself there, but still, Grim just..SQUINTS! OOC: *Points above and mutters* Show off... XP

Ahiga's gazes shifts to Tala now, and he leans towards her a little, ears pricked. Her question inspires a faint lifting of his brows, but for a moment after, he's quiet. Wolf and rain. Those are the scents that have dominated his nose. Picking out individual wolves present is not hard, for their scents are dominant. Althaea? Why would her scent be anywhere near here? The rain would've washed it away, unless she's been by recently. Nostrils flare as he looks back towards Brutal, testing the air again, waiting for a shifting of the aromatic breeze before gently filling his lungs.
"Yeah," he replies to her, brows lowering a bit, though whether it's in thought or disdain is difficult to gather. Althaea ... with them? If her scent is clinging to Brutal as it is, it's likely. Is /this/ where their wayward youth has been spending her time? With Brutal, of all wolves? And what this grisly old thing would want with their young female is left to speculation, and one can rightful assume that his speculation is anything but noble thoughts.
He's going to lose the battle against Silence now. That grotesque thought marinating his mind is enough to want to get his tongue moving. Add on Brutal's request to join their pack, their family, and it'd take a miracle to keep him hushed. Hey, the fact that he's been so wordless /this/ long is a miracle in itself! Good job Ahiga. But things are unraveling now. With that simple, seemingly heartfelt request from Brutal, Skahla's answer could no doubt mark a change in the Ute. Change can be necessary and good, or the complete opposite. He's had this conversation before with someone else. There is no running from change, but Ahiga cannot agree that this change, this .. these possible new additions, would be anything good.
"You're sure?"
So much for silence, but really, should he continue to be? This is his family and has been near the entirety of his life. Should he sit by idly and let his thoughts be left unsaid when he feels so strongly? Whether he agrees or not with whatever Skahla decides, his opinion should be spoken. At least he keeps his voice level (ish) and remains where he is, moving neither forward or back.
"You're sure you're wantin' to spend time with us, or are you really jus' wantin' to spend time with /her?/ Cuz from the smell've it, you've been spendin' more time with her than any one've us or any other wolf," he notes, a scowl gently creasing his face afterward. "Not even Grim could find you, an' I've seen more of him around the rest of us than you." Even if most of it was snarky interactions, but still! "So, s'hard for me to believe that you're wantin' to be a part of us for all the reasons y'say, as nice as I'm sure you know they sound."

If any wolf here can be accused of being oblivious, it is Skahla. He has been such for the majority of his life. He is not truly oblivious, of course. He just has a particular way of ignoring things, and the things he ignores now are for the fact that he has made out Tala's words no better than Brutal has. What father, then, could ever believe his young daughter has become enthralled with the wolf who stands before him now? It is all but unthinkable, and there... are other 'shes' within the pack. Tala, for one. And Wachiwa, although if Brutal had been spending any amount of time with Wachiwa, he would not have been hard to find. Still, it is much easier to consider that Brutal might be attempting to court his younger sister than his daughter, and if so... if so, it is no wonder Ahiga should take exception to it. This easy leap the alpha's mind makes causes him to open his mouth shortly after Ahiga does, drawing a line on the sand and leaving the younger male standing on the other side of it.
"I don't demand any more personal respect than is my due, and those who are closest to me could tell you my due is little. If they were willing to be honest about it," the alpha begins in response to the bow from Brutal. As he responds to the wolf before him, he all but ignores what Ahiga has said, for that is something that can be worked out later. Once that line has finished being drawn. "It has always been my goal to follow the Ute tradition of accepting anyone who should wish to be with us. I have not always succeeded, and as we have all pointed out... there is reason for us to be cautious, now more than ever. I am willing to take you for your word, though, unless you ever see fit to give me a reason not to."
Through Skahla's speech, which is as long-winded as he ever gets, he remains unaware of how his acceptable of Brutal may seem to completely disregard any concern for the large male's proximity to his own young daughter, for he remains simply as he has always been. Oblivious. The ever-absent father to a child who, if she has not learned it from other members of the pack, has had to teach herself whatever it is that she knows.

Ikuna listens to Brutal, his expression considering. Unwilling for aid? No. Cautious of the price that may be asked for aid. Ikuna has been tricked before.
Finding out who these wolves really are seems a fine idea. Yet...
Which is the real Brutal - the one who now uses sweet words and philosophy, or the one who entered Ute's territory uninvited and unapologetic? The one who now bows his head to Skahla, or the one who tried to give orders to Ute wolves newly met?
Perhaps, under stress, these two have already shown their true colors, and now those words are a pretty lie. Ahiga said it would be. At the time, Ikuna thought he could tell the difference, but now? He looks uncertain, and it's then that he hears Ahiga speak again.
More of the same concerns, and... Her?
Unlike his brother, Ikuna knows it's not Tala - nor Wachiwa. Who, then?
His thoughts circle, finding wolves and dismissing them, until there's only one option left. The young wolf he took on a tour of Ute's former borders. The young wolf who was the only one not to fall into the ice. The young wolf who went hunting mice and dove into brambles.
"Althaea?" he says, into the silence after Skahla has spoken. The alpha's words were only half-heard, Ikuna's thoughts occupying him instead. They were, after all, only the same sort of words Ikuna himself has spoken. Acceptance. Trust. Welcome.
Even now, his expression concerned, he does not argue with Skahla. He only speaks his niece's name, his tone quiet and questioning - meant, perhaps, for Ahiga, though it's loud enough to be heard by all.

Tala frowns as she hears the talk from Brutal and her older brother for the thought of the pair being allowed to stay? "Skahla.." Is said suddenly at the thought and she just shakes her head while shifting to her paws. "Do you honestly think there behave? They haven't behaved any since /being/ with us as guest." Seems she finally can't hold her tongue anymore. It was a good battle, an like Ahiga did you really expect her to stay quiet the whole way through? Not hardly.. But.. She did try!
"Where is Althaea?" She questions with a firm tone. As for teaching her neice it is hard to teach someone something when they are not around, when they disappear, and when hey refuses to pay attention to what one has to say. It's hard to speak and teach when they are off running this this brute of a wolf.
"Since the day we came to these lands you have been rubbing stuff in our face. We thanked you for the help with the dogs, we attempted to be friendly with you.. But you have chosen hard path if you think everyone is just going to go /welcome to the pack/!" Tala snaps out, her fangs bare for a moment while she eyes Grim thinly. If Brutal wants to thank anyone for her feelings he can thank his brother. "An if you stupid brother comes near me ever again, or attempts to /touch/ me again I'm going to rip of more then his ears." Yes she was the one that put bite marks in his ears, and she would have done more if given the chance!
She knows very well the tales of Ute letting any in that wish to be in the pack and can follow the rules, she feels this is a fair thing to have.. But These wolves?..These wolves that have sneered and rubbed it into the packs face that they are helpless and unable to protect themselves. As far as she sees it Brutal and Grim think they are better then the pack, hat is fine.. But she doesn't want that attitude IN the pack.

Where his attention has been placed wholly upon Skahla, the effort to keep it there is made difficult the moment that Ahiga looses his battle with silence. However, the accusations for which the Ute wolf make toward the massive male, do little to get a rise from Brutal. Instead, he just blinks in moderate surprise that Ahiga should know, but a brief regard to wind direction is quick to clear his confusion. Brutal would have preferred his time spent with the young Althaea to have continued on in something of secrecy, simply because it is this, right here, that he had hoped to avoid. Regardless, while the urge to ignore Ahiga's ranting is considered, in the end, the massive wolf just lofts a brow, "Both, to answer your question. As for my absence, I was under the impression, Ahiga, isn't it? That neither I nor my brother's company would have been welcomed had we...hung about." Dismissing the matter altogether, Brutal just gives a sigh of digress and it is with an apologetic expression that the dark wolf returns his regards to the Ute Alpha, who as it appears to Brutal, Skahla's request for respect seems like a greater challenge for his own pack members, than for the likes of two rouge wolves. Well, Grim might prove to be the exception from time to time, but that's nothing Brutal can't keep in check with just a few glares. Still, before Brutal can proceed in conversation with the alpha, it is Tala this time who's angry voice pitches in and upon her words, causes Brutal to squint his eyes and tilt his head ever so slightly with a incredulous look. Seriously? "Whatever I have said or however I have acted, was only ever done in the attempt to help this pack. Our ways are very different, but while you look at me and seem to consider my harsh words and brusque ways as tyrannical and ungracious, I have tried to accept your ways with understanding. There has only been one time where I failed to do this and for that, I do apologize." This last bit is said with a short glance toward Ahiga, clearly a reference to Hadir. When Brutal does return his yellow eyes to Tala, his gaze becomes firm "And perhaps she-wolf, you should rein in that temper. Because unless my brother Grim has caused you or yours physical harm, it does not bode well to threaten him in my presence. You of all wolves, I should think, would understand this. After all, I remember not long ago by the pond, when you shared similar sentiments with me." Another sigh and this time, Brutal is finished. Looking to Skahla, he just shakes his head almost shamefully, "I fear I have wasted your time, Skahla. I am under the impression that maybe it is best, for everyone, if I continue to keep my distance. Grim will do the same. But, despite what might be believed of my intentions, I am a wolf of my word and if you should discover you need assistance, I will answer the call." With nothing really left to be said, Brutal shifts, clearly prepared to depart.
----
SQUINT! Grim continues to leer at the back of his brother's head until the effort of doing so starts to blue his vision, but by this time, the conversation has taken on a new path and it is with mild interest that the smaller of the brother's listens. He would even 'oooh and ooom' and goad his brother in response to Ahiga's accusations, just for the fun of it, but Grim isn't /that/ stupid. Besides, he's rather enjoying listening to Brutal's verbal retaliations. The proverbial stoning gets even better when Tala pitches in with her rocks, though finding himself threatened, Grim does take a moment to roll his eyes. Yeesh, whatever happened to an appreciation for flattery? Females are just so uppity these days. Losing some of his mirth once Brutal turns to finally address the white wolf and the leader of Ute, the response his brother gives strikes Grim quite unexpectedly. Wait, so they aren't joining? Oh Spirits be praised! And while he does manage to not bound around like a march hare, Grim can't quite keep the grin off his pale muzzle, the expression sprawling across his lips until...he catches sight of a familiar expression masked behind the stoic visage of his brother. Oh. Ears tip back and Grim rises up from his place, all manners of humor are gone as the tall grey wolf just waits to join his brother in their departure. So much for change.

Ahiga nods to Ikuna, trusting his nose to have detected her scent correctly. Yes, Althaea.
“So you figured it’d be better to ‘hang about’ with Althaea away from the pack in secret, yes? Make her believe it’s alright to keep things from her family an’ to stray from us? Yeah. That helps.” Brutal may have dismissed the matter, having not answered Tala’s question about Althaea’s whereabouts, though it still weighs on his mind. His eyes vaguely narrow as Brutal’s focus shifts to Tala, and only now does he move, taking a slight step forward. It isn’t enough to put him in front of Skahla or even Ikuna, for that wasn’t his intention. But motion is enough to show that Brutal is treading on a nerve.
“It doesn' bode well to threaten her in /my/ presence,” he counters, ears pressing forward.
He has said enough, for any further words would be truly argumentative and his irritation is already boiling past the comfortable management stage. His eyes drift to Skahla and linger a time before looking back to the brothers. He and Grim may have more in common than either of them would like to admit, for the quiet brother’s silent celebration is echoed in his mind. But nothing is set in stone until Skahla has his say, and thus any inner merriment is kept quiet til then.

Skahla is only here as a figurehead. He knew it from the start, and he has not forgotten it now. But, dammit, those three scarcely-adult wolves wanted him here to be that figurehead, and when each one of them sees fit to question him so openly, and to be so rude when not an ill word has been spoken by either brother... okay, so it is his fault that he wasn't around to know that the other three know. And he is largely willing to trust the judgement of his packmates. All the same... it bothers him. At least a little. Or maybe a lot, if the growl he gives that, even for some of the accusations that have been cast, is not directed at Brutal is any indication.
To the younger three, shown by a turn of his head, he growls openly, "That is enough. If you want to discuss a decision I've made, now is not the time or the place." The decision is not made yet though, is it? That is why the alpha takes one leap forward and continues to speak in that same growling voice. "Tell me what it is you have to do with my daughter." Because Skahla the alpha is not the same as Skahla the father. There are certain similarities, sure. But they are not the same, still.

Ikuna made no question of Skahla - only one to Ahiga. Only a request for confirmation. He might have had concerns, yes - but they were private. Only things to be thought about later; to make him watch these two carefully. That was all.
Still, in a way, it's his fault all the same. He's the ringleader. If Tala and Ahiga are speaking out of turn, it's Ikuna who's to blame, right? He should have been faster to call Ahiga out on his words, to stop this before it got so far alone.
When Tala begins to complain, at least, Ikuna realizes that tempers have begun to truly flare. His look goes to her, his gaze steady and his tail coming up. "Enough," he says, and he glances to Ahiga the same way as the other young wolf approaches, sharing him in the glare... for it is something of a glare. They both have their tempers, Ikuna knows that - and he does appreciate having a different perspective. As Skahla says, though... now is not the time. Not for accusations, at least. For questions, yes. Accusations without evidence beyond dislike? No. It's never time for that. When these three were Althaea's age, they went off to Cerulean alone. Maybe Brutal's not to blame here.
"We," says Ikuna to the other two his age. "Will listen. And if it is innocent, we will /apologize/." If it's not, well, that's different... but already since they arrived at the waterfall Ikuna has let the other two do something he regretted. Not again!
Skahla's growl makes an ear flick back, but Ikuna doesn't look away. Not even as Skahla goes on to address Brutal. His attention is still on Tala and Ahiga, staring between them until... well, until someone backs down, and it's not gonna be him if he can help it.

Tala merely eyes Brutal back, her ears lowering a touch a snort escapes her. “Perhaps you need to explain to him what the word ‘NO’ means again.” There is a pause as Ahiga steps in as it where and she casts a faint look towards him, her tail swaying a few times but she slips quiet as he speaks up.
“Ahiga..” Soon escapes her to catch his attention and give a shake of her head. No need to get all puffy on her account.
She already knew that her elder brother would not appreciate her comments, but how can she sit back and say or do nothing? The relationship between Skahla and herself has never been a good one, they never talk, and never got close and it’s been this way as long as she can remember it. Yes she does want Skahla here as the figure head, he is the alpha after all.. But to offer them to join the pack? She didn’t count on that being part of the plan from her dear older brother. A low rumble of a growl actually escapes her and she takes a few steps back. Someone is not a happy wolf at the moment.
At the look from Ikuna she shifts back on her paws and bows her head slightly to him. For all show it would seem she gives Ikuna more respect to some degree then Skahla, which she is sure there will be words about it later and she will deal with them when it brought up. “My apologizes.” Is offered with a quiet tone.

More angry words, and on a matter that Brutal would rather not discuss in any form of negative light. But still, as Ahiga presses on with his imaginative allegations, Brutal finds it difficult to just let this wolf proceed to incriminate him. At least where young Althaea is concerned. Though where perhaps defensive vexation would be the expected response, the dark wolf can't help but actually smile in minor amusement as Ahiga proceeds to invent Brutal's intentions for him, with the origin of this mirth stemming from words once spoken to him by Ikuna in regards to distrust. "And here I thought I was the one who carried the cynical torch of acrimony and suspicion. Huh." The short note of that voiced chuckle is accompanied by another slight, incredulous shake of his head. But Ahiga's movement quickly invites Brutal to take a firm stance, though his hackles don't quite get into the action and the only noticeable reflex is a tensing of his shoulders in preparation. Not that it's needed, for Ahiga's advance halts by choice and it is only words that Brutal must contend with. Words that cause a steely gaze to be fixed upon the young adult male. "And I wasn't threatening her. I was reminding." This is all that Brutal says, or cares to say. Because the dark wolf has never made it a practice to threaten anyone. Rather, Brutal just says what he means and does what he says.
Thankfully, the next voice that Brutal hears is the voice of reason and also the voice of command. He was beginning to doubt Skahla's authority over the younger generation of the Ute Pack, who as it seems to Brutal, lacks a real sense of adherence. Well, at least between Ahiga and Tala. Ikuna has so far shown himself to be a wolf of sturdy disposition and repute, though Brutal isn't so presumptuous as to think the crooked-tailed wolf wouldn't present his alpha with a few grievances of his own, once the situation allowed. He's also fairly sure Grim is likely ready to explode just the same, but at least his brother knows when to keep it to himself. Dissonance and it's symptoms of hostility is a contagious disease. Even Grim suffers the affliction, rather radically and perpetually at that. Brutal, as it were, has developed a immunity to it from years of over exposure.
As soon as order is established, and much to his surprise a few yielding words spoken, Brutal continues to stay his departure in order to answer the question raised by the white wolf, who Brutal had almost forgotten was indeed the father of Althaea. But then, why should he come to such a conclusion very quickly? Althaea has spoken very little in regards to her sire and Brutal thought very little of it in return. Which causes the revelation of it now to hit him rather profoundly. He's been courting the alpha's daughter. Oh crap! Regaining his composure, which outwardly only entails a disconcerted widening of his eyes and shift of posture, Brutal looks to meet the gaze of the white wolf, "I think it is more a matter of what your daughter has to do with me. She is a virtuous and astute young she-wolf, who in a very short time has shown me through her unbiased understanding and hopeful outlook, of what the Ute really is. Or, at least...what it is suppose to be, I think." He smiles here, though the expression is still reserved. "She is the Ute pack I thought I was helping that day on the hill. She is the reason I stayed around. And now, she is the reason I stand here before you, Skahla, Alpha of the Ute, and ask for a second chance. Not just for myself or my brother, but for all of us. So that I might see that I was not mistaken and that you might see we are not your enemy." With this, Brutal draws in a breath, speaking now as if to a father more than a alpha. "And Althaea is safe and dry. I was escorting her back to the falls when we had to seek cover from the storm. She is resting in a old washout, a short distance from here."

Grim suffers from a great many things, with dissonance just being the start of them in a long line of mental handicaps, and in comparison, is the least to be concerned about. Currently though, the younger of the brother's is just contending with a severe bout of manic depression. He's happy! He's sad! He's happy! Annnd now he's confused...Duh-what? Must be the schizophrenia kicking in, which by large, is probably the truest form of an ailment that Grim honestly does suffer. Not that either him nor his brother, or anyone else would ever recognize it for what it is, other than that it makes him suspiciously unstable, mostly obnoxious, and unsuspectingly a dangerous wolf.
As it were, Grim isn't currently flying off the handle or diving off the deep end. Instead, he just hesitates when his brother does, halting in his approach towards Brutal to let his attention dance between the dark wolf and whatever Ute wolf is currently speaking. Grim does share in a bit of the same surprise as his brother though, when Skahla raises the question in concern of Althaea. In fact, even Grim is fairly interested in what his brother has to say in this regards! Yea, what DO you have to do with her, bro?
With his golden eyes set upon the massive person of Brutal, the response given causes Grim's eyes to narrow and his jaw to tightens a fraction. So he was right? The pretty little wench has been tempting Brutal to stay with her and this pack of miscreants! He just knew it! Ever the treacherous-sneaky-two-faced she-wolf Tala could ever be! As always, Grim is jumping to the worst of conclusions, because that's just what he does! Which in turn, brings the tall grey male to ponder the same concept Ahiga had only just accused Brutal of not but a moment ago. Exactly how much does Althaea play a part in Brutal's desire to stay among them? Though it can probably be a safe assumption that the ideas that flow in pursuit of this suspicion, are most definitely not shared in likeness; Grim is the evil-mastermind here, not Ahiga!
