Who: Myradi, Wiraqu (Amaranth Chieftain)
Where: Pristine Lake
Scene:
Who knew leaving home would be so relieving; not just that but refreshing and well.. fun. Never would she of been able to see the sights of the forest or wear a smile over her face back at that craggly old place. This was so much better. A bounce in her step leads Myradi down from the mountain to the longed for shimmer of the lake or it would if it wasn't mostly frozen. Slinking down to its slick shores a soft smile slips over her lips, as she slides just past the solid ground and onto the lake. Such a smile doesn't last long however as the ice starts to crack benieth her. Watching the ice split, she does the craziest thing, she paws at the water that leaks through.
Today finds Wiraqu in a more serious mood than is the Amaranth Chieftain's wont, for he's discovered traces of a scent on the snow. Wolves. He pauses here and there to sniff at the ground, lips lifting as he investigates the scent. The male chuffs, deep in his throat, and gathers himself to leap to a rock. He surveys the lake and finds.. another cougar. Oh Really? His head tilts sideways like an owl, and he chuffs again.
Given enough attention to, one could hear a childish giggle come from the cougress as she paws at water. It had become the best thing ever since well, she was a cub and found leaves to be the best thing. The ice continuing to crack beneath her, Myradi is oblivious that at any moment she could become a catsicle, ears swiveling to the sudden chuff. Looking up before the ice has the chance to break from it hold, she spots the cougar some ways up on shore. Now if that isn't a surprise. Its the first cougar she's seen in days- or has it been weeks? Side stepping to one side, turning to face the other, the ice breaks away due to weight change and starts to float to the lakes center. Losing her balance from the movement, catching herself just in time, she panicks if only for a moment before leaping toward land. Back paws hitting the water upon landing, she spins around and laughs.
Wiraqu's ears twitch to the crackle of ice, and the cougar lifts up one forepaw as his tailtip twitches and the ice snaps... but Myradi leaps to safety, and Wiraqu chuckles. He gathers himself again, and he jumps dow, pacing toward her. "Well, well, well," he says. "It seems the fish will just have to go hungry tonight." He laughs. "It's all right. I never found those fishes to be much good as neighbors." He pauses, about a length and a half from her, with his head tilted to the side.
That was surely a close one, not that Myradi had any doubt. Hushing her laughter she looks back to the cougar who is found to be much closer than before. Tail whiping about she takes a single step back looking to the lake then back to the larger male. His comment about the fish is smirked at. "Poor guys. I'd of made an amazing meal too." She chuckles looking to the lake and sticking out her tongue. Dropping her her haunches, butt shuffling through the snow, she raises a brow to Wiraqu's tilt. "Something wrong with your neck?" No, wait. She had something on her. For a moment she considered looking to herself but keeps her gaze on the male infront of her instead.
Wiraqu prowls sideways, examining the female from a slightly different angle. "Why?" he asks. "Did you have an idea for improving it?" There's a slight smirk about his features, his eyes bright and curious as he takes her in. "After all, I'd best know just exactly what the fish have missed. For when they come complaining, you see."
Myradi keeps close eye on Wiraqu as he examines her, perking her ears. Oh she had a good idea on how to correct it but it'd be risky. "Maybe." She tells him standing to put a little action to her words. A grin covering her lips now, she approaches the male, "It just needs a gentle.." Her words fading as she presses against the side of his head and neck with her hown. "One of these."
Ah, the fishes won't know what they're missing in the slightest. Wiraqu tilts his head again as Myradi approaches, watching her get closer... closer... ah, and all the way close, with her head pressed to his. The male laughs, and stretches out his neck to lick up for one of her ears lightly. "Is that so?" he murmurs, voice rumbly with something of a purr. "Well. Certainly seems worth a try."
Myradi smirks, "Oh yes. One of those can go a long way." Or it could stop right there and be met with a paw to the head. Luckly for her, the swat comes at her in the form of a lick to the ears. That brief moment is met with a purr, passing along the males body, flicking her tail up under his chin. Circling around to meet back at face, she looks of come curiosity. "So, did that manage to fix it?"
Metaphorical swats. Better those than metaphorical rabbits. "Oh, it's not the destination. It's the journey. I do rather like journeys," he says, and nips teasingly for the tip of her tail as she flicks it at him. "They're even better when I've the right companion for my travels." As she comes back around to face him, the cat arches his neck forward, splaying ears in a headbutt before looking up again. "Ah, you be the judge. Do you like what you see... now?"
The headbutt catches Myradi off guard forcing her to sidestep a little. Her response to it thought is nothing more than a step back toward him. Looking at him now that his head wasn't all cocked to one side, she chuckles. "Ah, much better. Infact I theres a decent looking cougar infront of my now." If it wasn't for the red marks on his shoulder he'd be a catch. She supposes it could be over looked though. "Now this companion you spoke of..." Was there some kind of set requires he was looking for? She'll have to find out.
Decent? DECENT? "Milady, you damn me with faint praise," retorts Wiraqu, and he holds his head high as he turns and saunters back towards the rocks when whence he came. His tail flicks as he approaches them, and he pauses a step later, his forepaw curled up mid-step as he glances back. "Shall I be the cat who walks by himself? Perhaps it's all alike to me."
Faint praise? Seems this one cant take a compliment. Pushing air past her lips as she releases a breath Myradi shakes her head. "Dare I say your a catch." What would he say then. Watching him saunter back toward the rocks she sighs. "To walk alone is to be alone. You only need ask?" She's travel alone far to long to just let him toss her aside because of some 'decent' praise on his looks. Stepping toward him a few paces she then stops and waits.
"A catch for the fishes," murmurs Wiraqu, and gathers himself up. He wiggles his rump, then leaps onto a boulder, turning around again to face Myradi and lying down with his forepaw dangling over the rock. "Me? Alone?" He laughs. "I met a cougar wandering in the woods one day. Then I met her Sisters." The male grins, then curls up his paw to inspect it and give it a lick. "If I am alone, O She Who Dares, it is by my own choice. I need only ask."
Myradi head shakes once more. "You misunderstand." If the fish wanted him they could have him, but she wasn't going to be the one to push him in. Flicking her ears back to what she feels to be a harsh reality check she huffs. If he is not alone then where is this cougar? These sisters? She sees them not even thought she has not looked. "I see. If you've so many already, surely another is no harm. Or am I such an inconvenience to you that you'd laugh and see me off.." She's left once before, she'd do it again if she had to.
Wiraqu ... laughs. "Harm? Oh, there's nothing of harm to it. Perhaps you misunderstand me, O She Who Is Seen." He inspects his paw again, then curls it back down against the rock, leaning forward toward her. "Shall I see you off? That choice is yours. If you choose to go, I shall not stop you. If you choose to stay... well, the Sisters keep their land south of here, and if you would stay /there/, you must speak to them. As for my laughter, there's no escaping it, but it can come for many... many reasons."
Myradi takes a breath and smirks. Why is anyones guess. So, he was just a male of pleasure, he had no real power. Interesting. Tail flicking, she takes a seat back amongst the snow. "The name is Myradi, by the way." That said, after a moments pause, she stands and narrows in on the lake.
Wiraqu curls his other forepaw to inspect it, acting with feline indolence as he sprawls there on the rock. "Ah? So. Mine is Wiraqu, She Who Is Myradi." He licks at his paw, grooming it with careful strokes as she turns back toward the lake.
"A pleasure." Comes from the cougress as she dips her head to the icy waters drinking from it. As her thrist is quenched, Myradi's gaze watches the water- the fish within. If the fish were not neighbors then why swim so close? Lifting her maw just above the surface she leans forward before suddenly swiping at the fish just below. Out comes a single victim, flip-flapping across the snowy bank. The chance may of been missed for it, but for her.. she'll enjoy every bit of it.
Wiraqu remains where he is, a lazy lounge as he watches the female, the lake, the fish... the surroundings. There's always much to catch one's attention, if one knows how to look for it. For now, to all appearances, he simply grooms his paws.
At this point Myradi doesn't mind if she's looked at or even watched. She was on a set task of catching a few fish and maybe... maybe sharing one. Moving to subdue her slippering friend, she gives a side-glance to the grooming male; quickly looking away. Free to catch another, she leaves the fish were it lies and slides over to fish out a second. A third.. even a forth. Each life taken only two are eatten, the others left for the lounging male. She doesn't address him such though, instead moving from the lake to an empty patch of ground.
Now what's this? Not that Wiraqu is watching - of course not, that would imply far too much - but there's a trace of a smile as he observes the uneaten fish. He splays his toes, looking down at his paw. Mmmh. Well. That... bit of fur needs a nibble. He gives it one. He waits, until Myradi has finished her fishing, has eaten to her satisfaction... has turned away. He checks his paws once more, licks and nibbles and grooms then, until at last he rises to his feet, stretching luxuriously.
Settling on her new spot she stretches out, paws touching the snow some, curling them under her form just in time to catch the male making his move.. stretching anyway. Rolling onto her back, wiggling about as if to itch, Myra watches Wiraqu to see what his plans are.
Oh, yes. Stretching is crucially important. The paws must extend out, the butt must lift into the air, the entire body must be a part of it. Such is the zen of cougar. Wiraqu even yawns, his whiskers prickling out, and then gives his muzzle a couple of licks to settle them back down. That achieved, he pauses for a moment, then leaps gracefully down from the rock and pads over to sniff at the fish.
Stretching was important but sometimes over baring. Stop stretching already and go to the fish! When he does, Myradi flips to her stomach so as to gain a better view. While this happens she micks his acts of cleaning, curling a paw up grooming it.
Wiraqu sniffs over the one fish. Hmm. He sniffs over the other one. Hurm. He twitches his whiskers, and nudges the one of them with a paw, before giving a delicate nibble.
Myradi has moved onto the other paw by now as the first fish is nibbled. Placing it down a short time later, she moves onto other parts of her body doing a half job seeing as the snow was just going to mess it up again anyway.
Wiraqu eats with small bites, going for the tastiest parts of the fish. A nibble here. A bite there. A little bit of that. He leaves the uninteresting parts behind; he is the gourmet, not the glutton. When he's eaten to his satisfaction, he turns again, walking along the edge of the lake and bounding up again to perch on a new and different rock.
When Myradi has finished said grooming, she flops back over into the snow, looking up past its highrise to the male whos wondered off to a new spot. For a time she watches him then just drifts off to nothingness not even going to ask if he enjoyed the fish or not.
Wiraqu volunteers nothing. He sits for a time, gazing out over the mountain's edge, and then eventually he rises and pads his way back to the south at a leisurely pace with his tail swaying behind him.
Myradi doesn't notice Wiraqu's departure until he's up and already heading south. Head shaking, she blinks a few times and turning to give watch of the cougar once more. For a moment she doesn't do much but that, but as he grows farther and farther away she slowly pushes herself onto all four and gives a rather lazy chase. He was heading south toward where he said the sisters were, might as well go check it out.
Further south, as it turns out, there are more scents of cougars. Including those of female cougars. Three or four at least, as well as more of Wiraqu's scent about. Plenty of lounging places, after all. Eventually, Wiraqu chooses another of them and drapes himself across it, looking back over his trail.
Myradi has followed along all the way to the point is taking a seat next to the rock Wiraqu settles himself upon. Not looking at him at first, she gazes out upon the white plain that she ventured to. Still none of the cougars are found but the scents are evident their out there somewhere. Looking to to him she says, "I'll stay here for the night." Maybe more. She'll determine that at a later time.
Wiraqu glances sidelong to Myradi, and nods once. "This is Amaranth's mountain," he says, tone level. "You will respect the Sisters, defend their cubs as your own, and not hunt to excess. Outside these borders, do as you will, but so long as you stay here, I am Chieftain."
Myradi raises a brow. So that explains it. Ok yeah, she can do that. "So long as I am treated the same, I'll abide but such rules." She's not going to be treated like crap anymore. Enough is enough. Leaning against the rock she yawns. "If thats alright with you... Chieftian?"
Wiraqu nods his head, and stretches. "You are no Sister yet, but they will respect you. The difference is this; they may invite other males into this territory. You... may not." He smiles. "I am Chieftain, yes. The cougar I found in the woods is the Matron of this tribe of Sisters."
There isn't going to be a problem there. Myradi didn't know any males outside her former clan, Wiraqu bring the exception, and she wouldn't bring any of them over here anyway. Nodding in acknowledgement she looks back out against the mountain. "You have my word then.' Better than being mauled on.
There are many things better than being mauled. This is one of the true facts of life. Wiraqu nods his head, seeming satisfied with that answer.
Nothing more is said, sitting there with content. Things could be far worse for Myradi, so for now she'll do what's expected of her till something better comes along.
