Characters:
Raijin: Ill Lazuli Wolf
Miakoda: Cautious Lazuli beta
Summary: Raijin stumbles back to the den, causes Miakoda to get paranoid slightly. Rai talks to his 'mother', and then shoots off into the distance with energy that he's going to regret using later.
Scene:
The sun is high in the sky by the time that Raijin falls to the ground a good distance away from the Lazuli den. His chest heaving like he'd been running from something as hard as he could. His golden eyes closed as he then pushes himself back up to his feet; struggling just to stay standing in that spot as he looks towards the den and then back down to the ground; his breath catching in his throat as he leaps up into the air. Leaping away from something before he lands on the ground a short distance away, and falls once more. Sad sight to see really.
Miakoda is outside of the den with no pups with her this time. She looks anxious as she peers off to the north, ears lifted and nose flaring as she tests the air again and again. A slight whine escapes her as the muscles in her legs twitch, as if itching to stand up and head off through the brush and to palces beyond. But she keeps herself rooted, with effort, with a worried look painted across her face. But soon enough, her attention is taken by the sound and sight of another wolf, and hte stumbling Raijin is watched with alarm. Blinking owlishly, she cautiously stands and lays her ears against her head. He's in much worse shape than before. "..Raijin? Raijin!" called to him.
Raijin looks from either side, trying to locate Mia's voice for a second as he stands back up. He looks over in her direction and her words floated through his diseased mind and he just stayed where he was. "Y...yeah?" called Rai back, his voice tinged with fear really as he planted his haunches down on the ground and he gulps a bit.
"You.." Miakoda's brows furrow as she watches him, and she takes slow and cautious steps his way, but even though she's moving nearer, she keeps her distance. "You're ill. You're still ill," she corrects as she sniffs the air, all but tasting the sickness that taints the breeze. "You can't be here, Raijin. Youre too unwell. It'll effect the pups." Whether or not her words are getting through to him is anyone's guess.
Raijin blinks a bit, his eyes may look a bit cloudy and he says, "I was trying... to get to the..." he blinks once more as he shakes his head; muttering to himself and then to either side of him. "Look, shut it. I know here I need to go." Whoever or whatever he's talking to is anyone's guess. He looks back at Mia and laughs slightly before closing his eyes once more. "I need... to get to the desert. That's what Sister Owl said."
Miakoda quirks a brow as Raijin speaks to an invisible something. Craziness is a little unnerving, and she takes a half step backwards from her, hackles bristling just slightly. "...Who are you..." she begins, though perhaps fearing the answer, she doesn't finish the question. Instead, she falls quiet to listen to him, and her look of confusion only deepens. "Go to the ... what?" Desert? Apparently that's a new word for the forest wolf. "What do you mean Sister Owl?"
Raijin closes his eyes once more, trying to sift through the fog that's clouding his mind greatly. "She's an owl who... told me that the treatment for what ails me... lies within the desert," says Rai as he opens his eyes and he looks over at Mia. For an instance, it seems that the normal Rai is back as he says, "Mia, I can't go out there like this. I...I probably won't even come back."
"Where is this ... desert?" Miakoda asks as her ears begin to raise a little. "ANd how does she know this? Where did you see this owl?" Too many questions at once! But she needs to know .. or at least, she wants to know and sounds slightly anxious as she questions him. " .. Why do you say that?" said in response to his last statement of not returning. "If this owl speaks the truth, then you /have/ to go if you wish to be well. And once you are, you will return to us."
Raijin shakes his head, but that just seems to hurt him as he says, "With how I'm acting... I don't think so." His ears fold back and he whines slightly. "I don't remember if she told me or not." His voice rising slightly, in agitation to himself and other things flowing through that garbled brain of his.
"If you say you won't make it, then you won't," Miakoda says with a frown. "If you believe you will fail, then you will fail Raijin. It's all in the mind. And as ... ill as your mind is, it's not going to take much for you to find defeat. You have to fight for it. You're a wolf, not a mouse."
You say, "But..." Raijin starts to retort, but she has a point. He was a wolf, not a lowly mouse. He lets out a sigh and then looks back up at Miakoda, "I'm not saying that I believe that I won't come back... but, if I don't. Live well." He gives a small smile, and then starts turn around. Muttering to the invisible 'wolves'. "Quiet mother..."
Miakoda shakes her head a little and holds a small frown. "Have faith, Raijin," said softly. "Faith is all that we have left, and you can't lose it now. One of our pups is ill.." said with a pained look back to the den. "One of Storm's. And .. Thorne. He's been gone, which isn't unusual, but with this illness he shouldn't be gone and wouldn't be gone, which has me thinking the worst of his health." Her frown deepens and remains that way as he agains speaks to an unseen being. "Raijin, there's no one..." But she pauses there, changing tactices. "...What..is she saying to you?"
Raijin looks back at Mia and says, "Yeah there is, she's right there next to me." He looks to the side of him with no one there. "She's...uh... telling me to go places. And I'm listening to her." He looks to the side of him and then blinks a bit; acting like a young pup once more as he then bolts off in a direction without telling Miakoda where he was going. Delusions are fun.
Er ... what? Miakoda's mouth opens as if to say something, but then Raijin's bolting off like a madanimal. She takes another step back, looking bewildered as she watches him disappear. "Rai-..." Eh, what's the use? She exhales the rest of it as a sigh and closes her eyes. When is this going to stop? Is this how the young pup is going to act as well? And what of her mate? With too much on her mind, she falls wearily back onto her haunches and half-opens her eyes, going back to listening and waiting for anything that might bring good news.
