Woodland Clearing
===================
Penumbra...F. Red Fox
Halidari......F. Wolf (L)
===================
Scene
Penumbra comes sniffing along into the clearing, pausing at the trees' edge. She lifts her head, inspecting the area, ears perked and twitching, alert for the slightest sound. She wasn't sure if that male had come this way or not, but she can't pick up his scent, so maybe she'll find something to eat round here.
Out from the undergrowth came a small hare; a meal likely to escape. Coming from the undergrowth aswell was Halidari, not as fast as she use to be with her leg injury but fast enough to at least see the hare escape into the distance. Stopping midrift of the clearing, she takes a seat to catch her breath.
Penumbra spots the hare, but not the wolf. Fortunately for her, she's right in the hare's "line of fire". She shifts position, muscles bunching, prepping for the pounce. Whatever's spooked it, it's to her advantage because with a little maneuvering on her part, it almost runs right into her waiting jaws. She leaps out of her cover at the last moment to intercept it, and dispatches it so quickly it doesn't have time to scream. Standing in the clearing, the hare in her jaws, it's THEN that she notices the wolf, and realizes what was chasing the hare. She pauses, one paw in mid-air, eyes wide as she stares. One of the local pack? Would it attack her? She glances warily back toward the safety of the trees, then at the wolf once more, waiting.
Halidari wasn't about to attack a fox should she see one. She harbored three already, why ruin the relationship now by attacking this one,; even if she did steal her catch. Once her breath is caught, Hali looks up and by this time notices the fox in the distance. Raising a brow she head tilts. Whats one one of them doing way out here? Straightening her head, she wonders a bit briefly before takeing a step forward. "I see you've caught the hare." She wasn't going to take it, there were plenty where that came from.
Penumbra stands her ground, keen eyes inspecting the wolf. She's always been a perceptive sort, and picks out that this wolf is apparently injured, or ill..and now she feels bad. She glances aside, ears splaying guiltily..she's never had a hard time hunting, but can imagine how horrible it would be if she did, and someone else came along and snatched her kill. Then again, the wolf couldn't follow, and it would have gotten away...then AGAIN if the wolf hadn't been chasing it, Pen wouldn't have caught it. She lets out a little whimper of indecision, and slowly pads her way toward Halidari. She's not too worried, having heard the Lazuli "adopted" at least one fox.
Being looked at never bothered Halidari, least of all when it came from someone small. Course she'd never underestimate those small than her either; the wit and stamina of a fox greatly out does that of a wolfs. As she stood there, Hali watches the fox come up to her; it was slightly odd in apperance but like Hali cared about apperances. "Whats wrong?" she ponders in question. "You can have it, I don't mind."
Penumbra drops the hare to free her mouth to speak, letting it thud at her paws. She swishes her luxurious tail a few times, the white tip twitching up. "You chased it to me..." She looks Hali over again. "You're Lazuli?" If she was a pack wolf, she had others to help her hunt, a single hare would be nothing.
Looking down at the fox Hali nods. "I am of the Lazuli, yes." Why did that concern the fox though; weren't they suppost to be afraid of wolves and their packs?
Penumbra sits down, tail swishing. "I am Penumbra," she states, ears twitching. "I live in the thicket..." She studies Hali curiously. "You hurt?"
Halidari head shakes before looking down to her injuried leg. "Its nothing.. doesn't even hurt." Its been a few days since she got that and its already starting to heal.The thicket.. isn't that the place where... nah. "You might of seen me a few times before then. I'm Halidari. I was over there a few days ago seeing a friend."
Penumbra flicks an ear, glancing back in that direction. "You know someone else lives there?" She'd caught a few scents around, but if it was someone else's territory, maybe she SHOULD see about that trip to the mountains.
Halidari blinks. "Someone else. No i don't." she states. "She use to live with me, but I believe she lives with other foxes now. In the grasslands just north of the thicket." Or was it west, she couldn't remember.
Penumbra tilts her head, "The fox you adopted?" She'd heard about that, yes, which is why she's not afraid of Halidari. "Different sort of fox though, I think."
Halidari nods, "Yupe." She was probably the only wolf out there thats ever taken in a fox. "Shes a grey fox." Though a fox was a fox to her, no matter what color they are.
Penumbra looks down at the hare again, then back at Hali. "You uh...want to split it?" She had plenty of food cached, and a hare's a big meal.
Halidari looks down at the hare as its mentioned. It was her's orignally, she shouldn't have to spilt it all, but to be nice... With a gentle nod she says, "Sure."
Penumbra figures the hare just would have gotten away if she hadn't been in the right place at the right time, so she's entitled to SOME of it. She did kill it. She puts a dainty paw on it and takes a few quick gulps from it, near the back haunch. She then takes a step back, licking her lips. She's left far more than half, having taken only a few bites herself. "Your pack is friendly to foxes?"
Halidari watches as the fox takes the first. When the rest is given to her she headshakes to the question. "Not all of them, though I think they've gone passive of them ever since I took in and raised one." It was alright with her if they didn't.. With it answered she goes to take the rest of the hare.
Penumbra passes a dainty lick over her paws, tail flicking. "How is it a wolf pack takes in a fox? Not something you hear of often."
Halidari looks up and pauses her eatting. "I found her in the snow as a kit, half alive." she starts out. "It wouldn't of been right to of just left her there to of actually died." Besides Hali was young then. That day probably became the starting point of her careing for most things that could not care for themselves.
Penumbra contemplates this for a moment, then nods smartly, dipping her muzzle. "Very kind of you, Halidari. Most wolves would have seen it as a convenient snack. You have my respect." She gets to her feet, shaking herself. "Perhaps I'll see you again." She smiles, and turns to leave, but pauses to look back. "Take care of that leg of yours..." And then she's drifting off silently like a shadow.
Halidari nods to that. They will see each other again.. she travels out there fairly often. "Take care of yourself aswell." she calls out as the fox drifts into the shadows.
