Mmmm, undergrowth! Lots of space with hiding places, it was almost like being hidden without hiding. Hidden and fur full of thorns! From the undergrowth, SilentPaws manages to find his way through to the path, looking slightly puzzled as he does so, not having noticed a path here before. His fur is a mess, thorns sticking out here and there, leaves and a few sticks tangled into his fur, it looks like it'll take him a while to get THAT mess sorted. But for now, he's not bothered. He can't go near the borders, so he'll just spend time in the rather dense undergrowth instead.
A lot has happened in a very short span of time, and Felstride has taken it all in stride although it has had a very consequences. The arrival of the Tremayne alpha to their little family unnerved him; he found it very strange, but Felstride wasn't about to question Storm. Thrown into the position of Omega, he has watched his own main concern tumble down in ranks.. it's all quite odd. Add to the mix Miakoda's... well, feelings about him, and about he and Storm have been bothering him as well. These are the thoughts that Fel' finds weaving through his thoughts as he lays in front of the cavern entrance. He has decided that this place would be safer to meet than in the open glade and so spends his time here. The large, burly wolf is curled into a small ball, his thick tail draped over his nose as he dozes in and out of thought. His ears twitch at the rustling in the forest, but for some reason the normally calm and collected wolf doesn't pull himself up to investigate. Yet.
A lot has happened indeed and SilentPaws is happily unaware that Midnight has joined Lazuli, at least for now. Walking on the path with light steps, SilentPaws has decided to see where the path will come to an end, which hopefully isn't out of the Lazuli territory, but ah well, if he's back before long, no one will even notice! He ends up spotting Felstride resting in front of a cave and he tilts his head curiously. Hmm, he must be asleep! SilentPaws gets a mischievous smirk on his maw and then sinks low to the ground, heading to into the undergrowth and attempts to move silently toward Felstride's position.
Well, no quite asleep, but he might as well be considering how much attention he's paying to the smells and sounds around him. Felstride takes a deep breath, slowly exhaling causing his tail fluff to ruffle in front of his muzzle. "It all seems so strange," the wolf mumbles to himself, his words muffled by his tail and his paws. The Alpha gently lays his ears back against his skull as he shuffles a bit to get a little more comfortable. A soft sigh escapes him and he closes his bright amber eyes again, "So strange," he whispers to no one in particular. Seems that, for once, SilentPaws' antics have gone unnoticed.
Having sneaked closer by, SilentPaws rushes out from the undergrowth and quickly closes the gap between him and Felstride with a pounce. "WhaddyaDoingOutHereIt'sTimeToWake!" he rambles off mid-air with a grin on his muzzle. In spite of the strange events, and SilentPaws would agree they had been very strange, his mood didn't seem to suffer the slightest bit at this moment. Speaking of strange, finding Felstride all alone out here and not in the glade was strange in itself!
HolyMotherOfAllThatIsSaneInThisWorld! Felstride hardly has time to react to the sudden shouting and only manages to lift his head just in time to see SilentPaws barrel into him. The wolf lets go of a heart 'MMPH' as he's tackled to his side and the jumbled heap of an adolescent lands on top of him. Heart pounding, Felstride kicks his legs in an attempt to get out from under the rambunctious teenager, getting a very thorn sticks in the process. He manages to break free after some struggling, his eyes widened and startled, heart pounding in his chest for some time before he manages to calm himself a little. "SilentPaws," he murmurs, unable to put together a sentence at present.
"Well, you looked like you could use some company." SilentPaws adds with a wide smirk, looking like someone who's having the time of his life. When Felstride appears be shocked beyond anything he's ever experienced and can barely string together a sentence, SilentPaws strangles a soft chuckle, yet the smirk remains. "Well, I know I sure could, I mean, I've been spending ALL day in the more dense part of the forest and aside from a few berries with an interesting taste, there wasn't much, I mean, you can't really hunt in there, now can you? Good for hiding, bad for hunting."
" ...Yes, yes, quite good for hiding," is what Felstride manages to get together after following SilentPaws string of words. The larger wolf takes a moment to shake out his fur -- and his brain -- before plunking himself down on his hindquarters. His eyes eventually land back on the teenage wolf with mild interest and the slightest grin, "You are covered with the forest," he says matter-of-factly before shifting his eyes and ears around them both. Seeing as how he's been scared out of his wits, he'd rather not have it happen again. That's the least that he needs.
SilentPaws just gives in to the chuckle and shakes his head. "Oy, you must've thought the sky would fall down or something. If only you could've seen yourself just then!" he still seems very enthusiastic about the whole shock he manages to give. Sobering up after a moment, he looks at his fur with an interested look as Felstride mentions he's covered in the forest. Hmm, thorns, sticks, leaves... "Well, I suppose if anyone wanted to sit on me for whatever reason, they'd think twice." oy, that'll take FOREVER to clean! "So...what exactly ARE you doing out here anyways? And how'd that talk with Mia go?"

Tilting his head in, Felstride motions with a fore-paw at the surrounding dense woodlands and at the small cavern behind him, "We will be staying in this area over the winter. The cover is thicker and there will be less snow on the ground. The rocks back there open up into a small cave big enough for all of us." Yes, all of us indeed. It'll be an interesting winter. Felstride's ears perk as SilentPaws asks about Miakoda, and hoping that he won't pry any further about the conversation, he nods, "It went well." Yeah, sure.
"That's great, hope everybody will start acting /normal/ for a change. I mean, that trip the four of us was on? Oy, talk about strange. The kind of strange where a change is just outta range." he blinks as he repeats those words in his mind, looking a little absent for a moment, but afterward seems satisfied with the answer. As long as everyone stopped acting so weird, he was happy. "Sooo...when will you tell the rest, I mean, it's gotta be for the best if we all know where to rest."
Normal. Felstride is fairly certain that things probably won't return to normal for some time yet. Considering SilentPaws' statements, he probably doesn't even know the newest.. um, news. Delving far away from his conversation with Miakoda, Felstride offers SilentPaws this interesting piece of news. "In time, SilentPaws, but I have some very important news for you," though his voice remains quiet and soft, it takes on a quality that demands attention. "Midnight, the Tremayne Alpha has stepped down from his pack and in the process disbanded it. He came here, looking for Storm, and she has allowed him into our pack and forced him to become Omega. He is to obey everyone at all times -- he is going to need to earn our trust if he intends to stay. If you wish to know more about him, you should speak with Storm.. she knows him better than any of us." Breath.
And whatever game of wordplay SilentPaws had initiated a moment ago is dropped in the light of the rather...interesting news. At first, he has a hard time believing it's not simply a joke, but unless Felstride is pulling it off really well, the tone suggested it wasn't a prank. Still, there's silence for an awkward moment as the young wolf narrows his eyes in disbelief. "I can't believe. You let that stinking troublemaker join the pack just like that? He /attacked/ me for crying out loud and seemed incredibly generous was insults to boot. I know you've said Storm has acted odd too as of late, but has she lost her /mind/? I mean, come on, the alpha of Tremayne, suddenly stepping down and joining the pack, it could be a trick, he could kill many of us while we're sleeping!"
Though SilentPaws' outburst is fully understandable, Felstride still finds his anger boiling up from deep within him. He's struggled long and hard to keep this place together and to keep his estranged temper away. It rises now, though, and first shows itself in the slicking back of his ears as SilentPaws rants. It escalates to a snapping of his tail behind him, and his muzzle barely cracks open in reply, "Watch your tongue. I am you friend but I am still your Alpha, as is Storm. This is her pack and I will -not- go above her decision unless it is necessary. Whatever reason for Midnight no longer being Tremayne's alpha is yet to be known to me, but I intend to find out. Without a pack to back him, and without the spine to stand up I doubt he would dare try a stunt like that." His hackles raise just slightly, muzzle turning down, "I am not above killing him, but he must give me reason first."
While SilentPaws would've wanted to go on with his ranting, Felstride does bring up an important point. He's his alpha rather than his friend. To him, it seemed impossible to claim to be both, at least he failed to see how it was possible to be both at the same time. Friends didn't pull rank, alphas and betas did and that's why they weren't your friends. Regardless of opinion and thought, the barricade of their rank always loomed and all they had to do was pull that card. The most depressing fact is, of course, that everyone aside from him and Rain is a ranking member and he only spoke to Rain every so often. "Fine..." he mutters, shaking his fur out, thought it doesn't do much good for getting the mess straightened out. "I should be on my way, anyways." he says, figuring he'll go let out his frustration on a random tree or start ranting to himself, at least he'd listen to his own words!
And that is why he has pushed his instincts of power and position away from him for so long; that is why he is who he has become, so that he would never hurt a friend and in turn, himself. Felstride has almost fully convinced himself to let the young wolf stalk off into the undergrowth and pitch a fit, as he rises and turns to face the cavern entrance. Closing his eyes as tightly as he can, Felstride hangs his head and slides down toward the ground before flopping unceremoniously to his side. He lifts a paw and covers his face, but a single tear manages to work its way from his eyes to soak into his cheek fur. Damn it, why do so many things have to go horribly wrong at the same time? "I am sorry," the wolf manages, breathing it out along with a sigh.
SilentPaws watches Felstride turn away, but his posture seems to suggest he's not in the best of moods, although curiously it seems more depressed than angry and his words only support that impression. "Never mind. It's your right as the alpha. If I disagree, I can always challenge you, but I don't much feel like that." not that he think he'd come out the victorious one of the two even if he felt up for challenging him. "Is he gonna sleep with the rest of us then? In the caves?"
"No." At least Felstride is sure of that. Not that Storm wouldn't disagree with that decision, but it's about time that he start making some finalities somewhere along the lines and then maybe everything will stop falling apart around his ears. The wolf doesn't move though, remaining prone with one paw over his muzzle. He can feel his anger fading back down from whence it came, and his tail quietly ticks away the seconds. "He will not be in the cave, not for a long time." Pause. "It is my full intention to make him aware of the rules regarding his precocious position. If you so desire, SilentPaws, feel free to put him in his place."
"I don't...want anything to do with him." he says, not sure he could accept Midnight as a member of the pack, even at the omega position, in spite of what the alphas said. He gives a soft sigh, part of his own anger ending up in a state of confusion. In some ways, this was good news too. If the Tremayne had been disbanded, the largest threat to the pack was gone and if Storm had just turned Midnight away, everything would've been grand. "I don't know what she expected me to feel when she admitted him into the pack..." he says with a frown, shaking his head before starting to head back the way he came.
"Perhaps she knows more about him than you think," Felstride calls after the young wolf, leaving him with a parting thought that perhaps there is a lot more behind Storm's decision than he realizes. While normally he would call after for SilentPaws to remain, the Alpha deems it best that he simply let the other deal with his confusion; it seems to be his way of going about things. As far as the Lazuli are concerned, Felstride has a lot to think about. It seems that this winter won't be easy for any of them, and he is afraid that he might have to exert the same kind of hated power more and more.
A lot has happened in a very short span of time, and Felstride has taken it all in stride although it has had a very consequences.
