Johari- Gray Fox Kit
Halidari- Adol. Wolf
Summary- After being left alone by Karon, Johari runs into Halidari
It's been a long, hard, and cold walk for Johari. Ever since being left alone by Karon, she's had to walk a long ways by herself and, being the age that she is, it has been tough for her. The only thing that's kept her going is the thought of seeing Daddy again and living happily with him. However, the cold weather and lack of food and water has made it hard for her. By now, Johari is very weak and is having trouble walking. She comes very close more than once to falling over only to catch herself, giving the appearance that she's limping. Finally, she just can't take it any more and collapses onto the ground. She's weak and tired and hungry. Looks like this little foxgirl's life could end a little too early.
Halidari has only arrived at the forked river just a short while ago and with little luck, has failed to find anything to consume the boredom that’s been drowning her spirits. At the rivers edge, a few fish are lined just across from her, dead and just waiting to be eaten. Looking to catch a few more before the waters clear and ice over for the day, but only manages to acquire one before a the soft thud of something in the distance echoes through the brush. Looking back, ears cubs forward, Hali peers around cautiously.
Johari's ears perk up as she hears the sound of water splashing. So there's water around here. Then comes the smell of something that could be food. Perked by the thought of water and food, Johari lifts her head over the grass that is somewhat covering her, looking for the source of the smell. However, the only thing she sees is a big monster staring at her. What were they called again? Wolves? Ya that's it. Johari quickly lowers her head below the grass, hoping the monster didn't see her, even though she knows it probably did. Normally, Johari would start running away from it, but she's so weak she can't muster the strength to even get up, let alone run away from a big monster.
Did she see it, the little head pop up from the grass; sort of but Hali's not quite sure if she saw what she saw; what was that runs through her head. There are many things in this area so it could be anything. Looking down to her fish for a moment, then around her to see if there was anyone else around. Seeing that there isn't, Halidari leaves her food by the river and makes for the object she thought she saw. Taking her only a moment to get there, she stops, looks closely around everything then takes a few steps closer. Looking down it’s to her surprise that she finds a young fox. Quite unusual to see one of them here, least of all so young and alone.
As Johari hears the monster getting closer to her, she knows that it's probably the end for her. Just like her mom. Thoughts of that horrific day still root themselves deep in Johari's mind. The images of Momma getting torn to shreds right in front of her. All that blood all over the ground, it's still a vivid memory implanted in Johari's head. She's brought out of her flashback as the monster looks down at her. Johari starts to tremble all over and is plainly terrified. She looks up at the monster with her Dark Eyes before saying, in a very weak tone, "Please, d-don't eat me."
Halidari tilts her head wondering many things. Should she even be here? Not worried that she, having not know a fox to be much of a threat to a wolf; but there was always the possibility they could be. Lowering her head down to smell the youngster, she halts half way seeing the trembling. Pulling back she blinks. "Eat you..." She says softly, why would she do that. "I'm not going to eat you." She'd much more prefer her fish then a little fox.
When the monster lowers her head down, the trembling only increases. She closes her eyes and waits for the razor sharp teeth to impale her, but it never comes. The foxgirl dares to open her eyes a bit to see what's taking so long only to see that there's no teeth in her face. At the monster's words, Johari looks up at it, confused. It's not going to eat her? Why? Not that's she's complaining or anything. Just confused. Didn't it eat Momma? So why isn't it eating her? Johari looks at the monster before saying weakly, "Y-Your not?" She attempts to stand up but only gets about halfway before her legs give way underneath her again. She simply can't stand, and that's that.
Halidari shakes her head slightly. "I'm afraid not." Sorry to disappoint you kid but she's not that wolf that ate your momma. Wondering why the fox would expect to be eaten is beyond her but she doesn't ask anything of it. Taking a step back the exact moment the kit tries to stand she eeps when she collapses. That’s not good. Shaking her head slightly, she looks back to the river where she left her fish. "I bet you’re hungry." What a change in subject. "Stay here...” Not that she expected Johari to go anywhere. "I'll be right back." Hali then turns and goes to retrieve the fish she had caught.
Still trying to think why the monster wouldn't eat her, Johari only gives a nod at the question of her being hungry and then watches the monster retreat to where she once was. Johari starts to wonder why this monster is helping her. But, then again, could it have been a different monster that got Momma? Maybe this is a nice monster. But, wait, can a monster be nice? Well it hasn't eaten her yet so that had to count for something...right? As Johari tries to come up with a solution to her seemingly unanswerable question, she waits for the monster to come back, wondering what it could be doing.
After a while, Halidari returns with two fish in her muzzle. Stopping in front of the kit she places the two on the ground in front of her. "Here you go. I hope you like fish." She never took the time to see if the fox could even eat meat she just assumed she could in hope it’s not a mistake. Taking a seat she waits; what now?
When the monster comes back, Johari notices two things in its mouth. She looks at the monster as it places the things down in front of her, a little confused. Fish? What's a fish? She's never had that before. Johari looks down at the fish and leans in to sniff it before taking a bite out of it. It's a little tough to chew but when she swallows she realizes that it's pretty good. She takes another bit, and then another, and then another until she's done with the first one. Johari then moves onto the second fist, eating it quickly. She didn't realize how hungry she was until now. When she's finally done with the two fish, Johari is feeling a lot better with a bit more energy than she had a few moments ago. She looks up at the monster before giving something close to a smile and saying "Thanks uhhhh....what's your name?"
Halidari smiles as she watches the young fox eat the fish. Never has she seen someone eat to fast; but she's glad nonetheless. Waiting till she is finished, Hali sits back and takes a look around still wondering where this ones parents are is she has any. When Johari tells her thanks, she looks back down and nods. "Your welcome." It was the least she could do for someone so small. After a moment she sniffs the air for any threats. "Halidari." she replies. "Hali if you prefer." Lowering her head once more, grabbing the eaten fish, she flings them into the nearby brush. "What's yours?"
"Johari" she replies to the monster's--no wait--Halidari's question. She doesn't seem /so/ bad. She /did/ give Johari food so how bad can she be. She doesn't seem like the monsters that ate Momma. Johari notices Halidari's looking around and sniffing at the air, almost as if she's looking for someone...or something. Johari looks around to where Halidari was looking and also sniffs the air for a minute. After getting nothing interesting, she looks up at Hali and says, "What're you looking for?"
Looking for... who says she's looking for anything... it’s nothing really. "Oh its nothing." responds Hali rolling a shoulder back. "It's just that it’s not common to see kits here without their mother." It’s uncommon to see any young fur without their mother in these parts. "Where is your mother?" She asks. A sore topic but Hali doesn't know that.
For some reason, Johari isn't all that surprised that the question came up. It's only a natural question to ask when you see a kit all alone, right? Still, that doesn't stop the young foxgirl from being hit with a tidal wave of emotions. Johari looks down at the grass, a single tear showing itself, before saying, "She's dead." Suddenly, Johari bursts into tears. It's still a sensitive topic with the foxgirl and is bound to be for her entire life but being at such a young age makes it really hard for Johari.
Halidari feels displeased with herself when she receives the answer to her question. Looking to the ground herself, she frowns. She should of never asked that, but she wanted to know; she had to. "I'm sorry." Moving up to the young fox, she drops her muzzle down and gives a light nuzzle to comfort. "Please don't cry." Who takes care of the young one now she wonders... must be no one if she was able to find her way out here alone.
At Hali's request, Johari quickly tries to stop any oncoming tears that might try and show themselves. When Hali bends over and nuzzles Johari, she doesn't exactly know what to do. Here's someone Johari was calling a monster a minute ago and the next she's doing this. It's a little sudden for the foxgirl but she can't deny that the feeling of being embraced in a way feels good to have back again. Johari just simply returns the nuzzle slightly, still slightly crying but not as much as before. "N-No it's fine, you j-just wanted to k-k-know." she says.
A soft smile inches across Hali's muzzle as she feels the fox nuzzle her back. It was quite awkward to be comforting something that would normally fear you and or be your breakfast, but Hali knew if she didn't, all her efforts would be at a lose. She's always been kind and helpful - to late to turn back now. Stepping back from the fox, Hali nods slightly. "Is it alright if I feel sad too?" she wonders. Not really sad, she just figured it would lighten the mood if they both were.
At the question, Johari is once again stuck with curiosity. Hali was sad? Why? She never actually /said/ she was sad /for/ her but that's what it sounded like. Or was she just sad about what happened to Johari? And again, why? Maybe Hali really was a nice monster. Johari can't deny that the nuzzle felt good to her; almost like how Momma used to do it. Still slightly confused, Johari simply answers, "Uhh sure." and falls silent. An awkward silence then falls over her. What now? Does she keep talking or just leave? She decides to let Hali make the call.
Halidari nods once more to the kit. With another question. She lowers herself to the ground and asks. "Can I ask you who takes care of you now?" She had looked around the area several times and saw no one; there wasn't even the scent of another nearby who had left to find food or something. This actually did make her sad; no one should live alone. Just then she comes up with an idea, but waits on it, not wanting to suggest something when it may not even be possible.
After thinking about it a little longer, Johari comes to the conclusion that Hali is not a monster. She /looks/ like one but there's no way she /is/ one. She's too nice. When Hali lies down, Johari finds the strength within her to sit up. The food earlier helped a lot. At the question from the wolf, Johari feels a little sad inside but doesn't show it. Instead, she simply replies, "No one, I'm by myself." Of course Daddy is out there somewhere but Johari has no idea where. He probably thought she died with Momma as well.
Halidari hrms to herself at the reply, but smiles just shortly after. It seems she’s able to do what she had in mind after all. Picking herself up from the ground, she looks at the little fox before saying. "In that case that would you say to being taken care of by one like myself?" It’s obvious that the girl isn't to trusting in wolves but that’s a risk she's willing to take. "If you don't want to that’s alright. But it may just be better than being alone all the time."
Johari looks up at Hali at the mention of her offer. Stay? With her? Johari is struck with mixed emotions of joy and caution. She would very much like to spend more time with Hali after deducting that she's not a monster, but she mentioned also staying with 'ones like herself' Did that mean more monsters? Sure Hali wasn't bad but what about other monsters? But, if they were all like Hali, then they couldn't be monsters...could they? Still a little unsure, Johari responds, "R-Really?!?!"
Halidari didn't really mean others like herself, just mainly herself. She's hardly home and if she is no one is awake... but guess it makes little difference when it comes to wolves; where there’s one there’s surely another. Nodding to the foxgirl she confirms it. "I mean it. I'll make sure nothing happens to you." This she means to the fullest.
At Hali's last words, Johari can feel herself starting to cry again. But this time the tears aren't sad tears but happy tears. The thought of somewhat living with Hali makes Johari very happy but the promise to protect her makes her even happier. Johari suddenly scampers over to the wolf and wraps herself around its leg and nuzzling it. She looks up at Hali and says, in a very happy tone, "Thank you." Johari knows that she'll be most likely meeting with more monsters but, hey, now she has her own monster on her side. XD
"No need to thank me." But Hali accepts it nonetheless. "Just be happy." It’s the least she can do; she couldn't bare to leave the kit out in the cold with no one to watch over it. Looking down as she wrapped around she looks a bit clueless on what to do; so she just smiles and nods, dipping her head down to nuzzle the fox once more.
