Old Barn
=============================================
Small trickles of sunlight illuminate the cracks between the wood boards of the walls, the thin beams reflecting off floating dust. Everything past the doorway is shrouded in the dark shadows, looking lifeless yet refreshingly cool. A layer of gritty, dry hay blankets the ground, though soaked in a few small puddles of water and mud here and there.
Rusty farm tools and equipment rest against the north wall, some hanging from wall hooks, others tossed in the corner. Opposite of that, a row of stalls are set up next to each other along the south wall, partitioned off with simple wooden beams and a creaky gate made of brown iron bars. A ladder propped up firmly leads to the loft above, underneath a damaged section of the roof which has been crudely covered up, yet still leaks rainwater.

Jette, Male Dog
Alsoomse, Female Dog
Jette is settled by the entrance of the barn, eyes cast out towards the feilds and abandoned house not far off. He twitches his ears back towards Rouge every once in awhile. He'd slept for enough to ease him but as usual is up and keeping an eye on the surroundings as usual. Rouge was out cold.. so young. Jette hrrs softly, features stoic and nose twitching in the cool air from outside. He hadn't paid any mind to the other female since he layed down, giving her her space, yet he felt no immediate threat so he's here now.. simply watching.
Alsoomse licks across her maw and snuffles while lifting her head as a cold draft of air suddenly moves across her. She looks to the door as if waiting for someone and frowns as she recalls that his still gone. Her head lowers back to a forepaw while a ear twitches towards the other two listioning to there breathing in the dark barn.
The dark is eyed with a curious expression before Jette turns his head and cranes it to peer into the stall at the other female. Jette stands, stretching slowly and finally turns to pad slowly towards the stall. He hesitates around the outside and utters a deep chuff to the unkown female. Jette slides to his haunches, leaning idly against one of the posts to the front of the stall. He doesn't block off the exit or come within the stall so as not to make her feel threatened, ears twitching fowards. "Never got your name.." he mutters. He doesn't say it as in to force her to tell him, almost a way for him to maybe start conversation.
Alsoomse ears flick forward and her gaze lifts to the dog that is near her, its a good thing he didn't come close to the entrace no telling what she might do. "Alsoomse." She offers with a simple tone while lifting her head back up, nose wiggling as she takes in the scent of the other.
Jette nods his head, "Mm.." He hesitates for a moment, "You on your own?" Its a sincere question. He hadn't seen more then two dogs together at a time so he was somewhat curious. Gaze slides to the slumber Rouge before letting it fall back to Alsoomse. His tail twitches behind him, ears rotating here and there but his gaze stays steady on the other female. Not totally staring, just attentive. His nose twitches now and then as he catches her scent better here.
"I'am now." Alsoomse offers after a moment. "At, one point in time there was a dog pack around here. Are leader.. He died during the winter the rest of the dogs I have no idea where they went." Leaving her on her own once again.
The information peeks his interest and the male listens quietly before nodding faintly. It was a hard life.. he wondered what became of the other dogs in her pack. Jette sits quietly in thought for a few moments before a noice from the outside catches his attention. The sound of an animal.. The beauceron turns quietly yet quickly and pads to the entrance of the barn. Eyes roam the dark landscape, narrowing somewhat. He can hear the rustling in the feild not far from the barn. It sounds big.. bigger then a rabbit or some rodent at least. He remains silent, steady eyes watching the outside intently, nose flaring.
Alsoomse licks across her maw and soon looks to the door after he moves towards it. The large dog stands and follows after him, standing in the doorway while she sniffs at the breeze as well. "There have been some cougars out in the forest near her." She murmurs fiantly to Jette. "I haven't smelled them to close to the farm though." When her pack was around she wouldn't worry, its not that she's worried now just unsure.
Jette squints into the shadows and frowns. "Sounds.. kind of erratic.. neither here nor then. Cougars are generally stealthier.." He's half talking to her, half reassuring himself. His figure tenses, an ear flicking back towards the sleeping Rouge before all attention is focused before him. The feild goes silent for a few moments before the rustling draws nearer. Jette takes a small step out of the barn, figure tensing. It takes a few moments before the silence of the world outside is shattered by the quick panting and faint growling of a rogue wolf. Jettes eyes widen as he falters mid-step. The creature was thin, hungry, half-crazed, and un-kempt. Its wild eyes darted left adn right, up and down, never settling on one thing as it sprinted from side to side. Jette suddenly goes still, ears alert and fur bristling, however no sounds emits from him. Yet.
"True." Alsoomse murmurs faintly before blinking as she watches the area, canine its a canine but what type? When the wolf shows its self and it runs around like a chicken with its head cut off. She holds back a growl as she hopes the animal will turn and leave as it is acting sickly. Her hackles raise, head lowering and lips pulling back slightly to bare fangs but she keeps quiet for the moment as well.
Jette flicks an ear, "Careful.." he mutters quietly, "It might be sick.." Jette watches the wolf as it moves, his figure tensing more noticeabley, the hair along his neck and back bristling. The wolf goes on checking holes and other areas along the edge of the feild. It pauses, head lifting and nose sticking into the air. Its nose sniffs frantically, wild eyes darting to and fro as it cranes its head towards the barn. Jette can't help it as his lips lift automatically to show his teeth. The wolf continues to rummage around before pausing again and sniffing towards the barn. It's then that he draws closer, finally noticing something worth interest inside. Its wild yellow eyes finally stay still for the first time since it entered the area; directly on them.
Alsoomse nods slightly as she hears Jette. "There have been sick animals around here before." She murmurs back as she keeps an eye on the wolf as it still runs around. Her eyes narrow as the wolf finally looks at them, oh great, not what she wanted but she desn't back down either.
The wolf chatters something to itself, its voice rather high-pitched and for the most part incoherent. It draws closer, tounge lolling before rolling across his lips and a growl emitting. Jette finally decides to respond with a deep rattling snarl of his own, figure rising to his full heigth and ears pushing fowards. The wolf hesitates at the show of aggression before its hackles rise and the wolf snarls in reply taking another step fowards. Jette does the same, head lowering to protect his throat instinctively. "Leave. Now. Or leave in peices with the scavangers," his deep voice threatens.
A thick snarl escapes Alsoomse as the wolf shows some back bone, a bit of drool hangs from her maw until she shakes her head. Not her fault, blame her father! She steps forward to be next to Jette to show there is more then one front here. "I suggest you listion.." Some the tone while her jaws snap.
He watches as the wolf pauses to think over their words. It looks half like it wants to run and half like its stomache is calling all the shots. It lowers its head and snarls, saliva swinging from its jaws. Jette snarls, a deep and threatening sound. "Beat it!" he finally orders, jaws snapping. The wolf pauses, it almost whimpers before lunging fowards testingly. It pulls back about half way and eyes them, jaw chattering before attempting once more. The large male rushes out, jaws snapping and a series of short snarls issues as he uses his thick chest and shoulders to shove the thinned wolf backwards careful to avoid any teeth or saliva. "That's your last warning before we scatter you into the winds," he snarls.
Alsoomse eyes the wolf head lowering and her muscles tensing up as she gets ready for the fight if needs be. She eyes Jette as he races forward and takes up standing in the doorway of the barn so the wolf doesn't come running inside. There is little space to get by her that's for sure.
Jette backs up slowly to stand closer to Alsoomse yet a little ahead of her. The wolf whimpers and snarls at the same time. Its eyes dart from one canine to the other and back before it seems to get the right idea and choose to pick its meal elsewhere where there wasn't so much muscle to stop it. It growls slipping back off int othe feilds. Jette doesn't backdown however for some time. His cropped ears listen intently as the rustlings of the wolf grow fainter and faint and even then he stands like a stone solider keeping guard. Some times passes and he finally snorts, tounge slipping over his nose before he turns back towards Alsoomse.
Alsoomse stands still, not moving unti the wolf does indeed turn and flee, even then she is on alert incase he turns around and tries to get in another away. Her gaze drifts around the barn, it actually has held up rather well and they could push the door closed just incase. A glance is offered back Jette a few moments before she turns and moves back into the barn. "Looks like you did that before."
Jette follows the female in and shakes out his fur to flatten it before rummbling, "Years of practice." Its said almost sarcastically, not to her just about the subject. Living life on your own takes its toll but so did watching herds of sheep, they both included rogue wolves. Jette sighs and slides back onto his haunches, leaving Alsoomse to her stall and turning a wary eye to Rouge who's still slumbering peacefully in the back of the barn. Jette twitches an ear before glancing back to the other female. "You know.. we're not a pack but we can offer a little bit of protection.. to say the least." He shrugs. "Your more then welcome to tag along where ever our paws lead us until you find the rest of your pack." Jette eyes her before glancing back at Rouge. "Besides... someone needs to toughin that girl up.." She was innocent. Too innocent to survive in the wild on her own. He shrugs gaze slipping away, "Just a thought."
Alsoomse shifts to the side of the entrance of the barn and works on pulling the large door close some, a rope hanging from the old handle coming in nicely. Once its pulled free she pushes it closed which will keep the wolf from trying to get in. Another rope is on the back of the door so they can open it later. She then moves back to her stall and settles down. "I don't think your want me tagging along with you. I'm not always very sane." As her old human said, she was a great fighter because she was crazy she wasn't kept around because of her looks mind you. A glance is offered towards the pup and her maw twitches while she settles down. "She'll be lucky to survive the rest of winter."
The male shrugs a shoulder idly, be that as it may he didn't mind. "Either way, sane or not, your more then welcome." Jette glances away from Rouge and back to her. There was something about her, crazy or not, that seemed trustworthy. Something he wanted to keep around. The male glances back at the pup and smirks, "She'll learn.." He seemed determind to make sure she did. Jette shifts his weight before wandering back to where Rouge slept. He slides back to his haunches and then to his belly, head settling on his paws as his eyes stayed steady on the door.
Alsoomse has slipped quiet, her maw twitches as she listions to Jette and watches him. "Alright.." She offers after a moment. "I'll follow along for a bit. An attempt to train her some." This is offered with a soft tone. Not like she has anything to lose not following them. "I suggest we stick around the farm until after winter though, be easier for her to deal with the coldness."
Jette nods his head breifly, "Sounds good." He falls quiet after this, eyes sliding shut but not sleeping. Not yet. His breathing is steady but there's no telling exactly when he falls asleep, or if he truely does. Two days before he was alone; now there was three.
Alsoomse watches him a few moments longer before her eyes close. Sleep isn't easy for her, though she soon drifts off into slumber. Perhaps now she'll actually get some rest with someone else around to watch her back so to speak.
