Chandani - Female Cougar Cub
Chesmu - Male Cougar
Kein - Male Cougar Cub
- Stone Formations -
Chandani is heading off towards the Stone Formations it is the middle off the morning hours. The cub is bored and is hoping to come across one off her siblings or at least Pelutho if none off her sisters or brother is around wanting to find someone to play with.
The cure for most boredom, if only for the fact he's become a bit of a cub escort, is Chesmu, fresh from his daily rounds of peeing on bushes and making sure there's not territorial threats. Not the greatest thing in the world. Downright boring. Perks of the job are nice, though.
Kein has been more subdued and quiet ever since the thing with the mouse. Since both things with mice. He can't go try to hunt anything, because he doesn't know what's safe to hunt. He can't ask because he doesn't want to admit something that will get him in trouble. He can't even hope for Chesmu to come by and relieve some of the boredom, because Chesmu is Bad. He also can't tell anyone Chesmu is bad, for the same reason he can't ask which animals he's allowed to practice hunting on. This leaves him with very little to do when the rest of his family is occupied or sleeping, and he's currently just lying beside one of the large stone formations, staring ahead of him. Thinking.
Chandani makes her way closer towards the area and spots Kein she rushes over towards him excitedly trying hard not to try and pounce him at least there's another cub around not just her, "Hi." She says excitedly, and waits to see the other one's reaction hoping that she's not disturbing him.
Chesmu notices, as always, cub activities. Chesmu is always happy to see them so active, but not wandering the lands haphazardly without an adult. He is oblivious to Kein's thoughts on mice and himself. He finally reaches Kein and then notices Chandani. "Chandani!"
Kein hasn't seen Nayeli is weeks, and he has never met any of her siblings, though he has seen them. He glances up at the strange young female's voice, but before he can say anything, there is a loud, unexpected voice beside him. He jumps up to look at the cougar who has that familiar voice, and immediately backs a step away from both Chesmu and Chandani.
Chandani hears the chieftain's voice and quickly turns to face his direction nervously thinking she's in trouble and her voice breaks, "Y-y-yes, daddy?" Then waits to hear what he has to say next.
She is in trouble... sort of. To get to Kein's location it involves leaving home. "Did you come with an adult?" Chesmu is big on that little piece of parenting. Though he's turned it on Maulisho's cubs, too. He looks over at Kein and wonders if Maulisho has spoken to him yet about his strange behavior.
Kein has not spoken to Mom about anything important. He has been almost as quiet as Pel in the last week or so. He definitely remains quiet now, as he listens to Chesmu lecture someone who isn't him, and he appears interested in keeping his distance. He doesn't trust Chesmu, thanks to one tiny animal's lying, and he feels bad for the other cub. Bad enough to lie for her, say someone dropped her off? Maybe. First he'll see how well she responds to Chesmu's question.
Chandani looks down at the ground and sighs kicking her right fore-paw slightly above the ground then raises her head up and faces the chieftain's direction, "I-I am fine." She says not saying one way or another rather or not she came with an adult. "Nothing happened to me."
Yeah, yeah, that's what Chesmu was afraid of. Chandani has been adopting this attitude of not needing an adult and that everything will be fine. "Chandani!" Chesmu says. "We've been over this! You're vulnerable without an adult!"
Kein really doesn't want the chief's attention on him, but he doesn't want anyone else facing the evil chief's wrath either. It's different when mom gets upset about something, in large part because Mom never yells. Still standing several feet away from Chesmu and this new cub, he speaks up, before Chandani can say anything else, "Don't yell at her! She didn't do anything. Kasim brought her here a little bit ago." He may be asking for trouble, but Kasim isn't here right now, at least. It might get Chesmu to stop lying.
Chandani quickly turns to face Kein with a surprised look and then tries to hide it as she turns back to face the chieftain and goes on with what the other cub mentioned, "That is why I said, I am fine and nothing happened to me."
And Chesmu buys it, though he is surprised. Maulisho is looking for him! And other thoughts come to mind. "Well, good. I'm grateful to Kasim. Did he say where he was going?" Odd he wouldn't stick around.
Kein is a little surprised that Chesmu bought it that easily. Since he did, though, Kein does nothing but shrug. "I don't remember if he said anything." That is truthful enough. If he knew, he might well direct Chesmu to go the wrong way, so he might have time to ask Kasim to back him up, just in case Chesmu asks. If Kasim is angry about it... Well, at least Kasim is generally more laid back than the chief, and Kein probably won't have to listen to any more yelling...
Chandani keeps her attention on her father, "He did not say anything to me about where he was going." Comes her own reply being honest with that part. Then turns back to face Kein glad he helped her out with Chesmu almost as glad that the yelling has stopped..
Well, that's not good. Chesmu will have to find some other way of finding Kasim, evasive as he is. "Well, then I suppose you won't mind me watching over you for a little." Chesmu says. Perhaps maybe he can ask Kein why he's been acting strange.
Kein just gives another shrug, as if to say that he doesn't care if Chesmu stays. He hops up to one of the smaller stones after shrugging, though, and lies back down up here. He'd prefer it if Chesmu left, that way Kein could go find Kasim to let him know what he told Chesmu, but at least while the chief is here, he's not out finding Kasim and finding out that Kein lied.
Chandani turns to face her father and sighs, "I do not mind." She says. Wishing he will also leave so she can speak to Kein in private and maybe even help in looking for Kasim. Knowing her father he will not leave that easily. So the female turns around trying to find something to do... wanting to get over her boredom.
After a few minutes of thought, Chesmu finally arrives at a decision. "Kein. I need to speak with you." Chesmu begins trying to find a good way to handle the problems with the cub.
Kein should be polite to adults. But he shouldn't lie to adults either. He's not sure how much he is absolved by the fact (or his belief) that Chesmu is evil. He lifts his head when Chesmu says they need to talk, looking down at the chieftain. There's a brief pause before he asks, "About what?" He'd prefer to just say the same thing he said last time, that he doesn't want to talk, but he's not sure that'll fly, this time.
Chandani quickly turns her head to Chesmu's direction curiosity getting the better off her now waiting to hear what the chieftain has to say.
Chesmu sits stoically before Kein. Silent. Collected. "Kein, I wanted to leave this to your mother. But I love you like a son in many ways." Chesmu thinks that is a nice start. "Now I am worried about you. You have been acting strangely, ever since I ate that mouse. I want to know what is bothering you. You know you can tell me anything."
Kein keeps his eyes on Chesmu as the chief speaks. Before Chesmu even stops talking, shortly after he mentions the mouse, Kein lays his ears back. He doesn't answer immediately, either. He's not sure why the chief refuses to believe that Kein is not a bad cub, since that's how Kein has interpreted Chesmu's behavior around him. He's not going to give in, though. Having decided that, he looks away, lowering his head onto his paws. "You don't gotta worry about me. I'm fine."
Chandani blinks her eyes and seems lost then turns to face Chesmu, "You ate a mouse?" She asks. Before turning back to face Kein wondering what a mouse has to do with what Kein is going through now? But she does not ask noticing that the male cub does not seem to want to talk about it and she does respect his wishes by not asking him anything about it.
Now that will not fly with Chesmu. He wants an actual answer to his question. "Kein!" Chesmu says, maybe a harsher tone this go around. "I can tell you are *not* fine. And I *do* have to worry about you as one of the cougars of this tribe who cares a great deal about you." There is definitely something going on here with Kein. He does look over at Chandani. "Mice are food. I offered it to him, he refused it."
Kein tenses as Chesmu starts yelling again. And when Chesmu 'lies' to his own daughter, it just makes Kein's mood worse, makes him less willing to talk. In response to all of the yelling and what he sees as Chesmu's deception, he says, in his own raised voice, "I don't wanna talk to you anymore!" He /definitely/ shouldn't be yelling at any adults, and part of him worries that Mom is going to hear him, but a larger part of him just wants to be left alone now.
Chandani blinks her eyes a little and looks up at Kein trying to think off something to say. Turns to face the chief and sighs. "Kein do you want to talk to be about anything?" She asks trying to help out feeling sorry for him not liking to see anyone in this condition at all and if she can do anything to help she will be more than willing to try.
Chesmu frowns at Kein. He needs to push the cub a little, he thinks. "Kein, you have to! I'm worried about you!" Chesmu says. And he wants to be out of this uncomfortable fiasco as soon as possible. "Just tell me what is wrong!"
"I'm /not/ bad!" The chief may think he is, may think that's why Kein would have no problem with killing and eating a mouse, but he's not. Angry at being yelled at and lectured and pushed around, especially by someone who Kein thinks did something very bad, Kein moves his paws and places his head directly on the stone, then covers his head with his paws. He doesn't want to talk anymore!
Chandani turns to face Chesmu when he starts to shout, "Daddy please do not yell like that." She says trying to calm him down. Then she tries to think of something to do. Then gets an idea, "Do you think. I can talk to Kein?" She asks hoping it will help give them some privacy not sure if it will work though.
Chesmu is about to say more when it hits him. Bad? Chesmu looks at Chandani a moment, a look that says 'wait a moment' before he leans forward. "Kein." Chesmu gets down to the ground to Kein's level, his tone is that of concerned love now. "Kein... you aren't bad. I can't imagine why you would think you are. I mean, you have been staying out of trouble and everything." Chesmu creeps around Kein to face him, his face showing an honest face of concerned adult. "I just want to know why you're unhappy so I can help you."
Sure, the chief may say he's not bad, but he takes every opportunity to yell at him, even when Kein just doesn't want to talk, and tried to get him to eat a mouse. If it weren't for Kein's troublesome past, this would never have become an issue, and now Chesmu is lying to him to try to get him to... What? Admit he has done something wrong? Kein can't even begin to figure out what is motivating the chieftain, but it /can't/ be good. "I just wanna go to bed. I'm tired." Read: Leave me alone already.
Chandani lets out another sigh realizing this is not going well for her father or Kein at all. The female cub does not say anything else at the moment as she waits to see if her father is going to continue trying to get through to Kein.
Chesmu feels stung. He looks over at Chandani and sighs. She can talk to him. Kein doesn't seem to trust him, but he'll probably talk to Chandani. He walks off, a little disenheartened.
When Kein realizes that Chesmu did nothing wrong, he will feel terrible. Right now, though, he's angry, hurt, and worn thin by all of the yelling. He doesn't want to talk to the unknown female anymore than he wants to talk to Chesmu. So, while he relaxes slightly when he hears the chieftain walk away, he doesn't uncover his head or say anything.
Chandani looks up at Kein, "I am sorry you got caught in what happened." She calls up to him trying not to speak too loudly. Trying to help calm Kein down.
Chesmu just watches the cubs carefully to assure that they don't get hurt.
Maybe some part of this is Chandani's fault. If she hadn't snuck away from her home, Kein might have been able to escape Chesmu's attention. Kein was the one who decided to lie to help her out, though. /That/ is not her fault. He doesn't blame her... But he does ignore her. Chesmu isn't far away, and his excuse of wanting to just sleep won't hold any water at all if he talks to Chandani now.
Chandani slowly starts to get on top off a rock herself, "Kein, please talk to me I am Chandani." She says introducing herself not noticing where Chesmu is since she did not look back when he walked away from them.
Kein shakes his head slightly, the motion muted by his head being covered with his paws. "I don't wanna talk. I wanna sleep. Just leave me alone." Kein is generally not /mean/, but despite the fact that he shouldn't be tired, he is, and he really doesn't want to talk to /anyone/ right now. He wants to be left alone.
Chandani frowns, "Alright." She says in a sad voice feeling bad. "I will leave you alone. I would like to talk to you about something when you are not tired if that is alright Kein." The female cub adds in a soft voice. The truth is she is also tired and still wanted to try and comfort Kein and talk to him.
Kein feels slightly guilty when he hears Chandani's tone. Not guilty enough to change his mind, but guilty. "Fine. We'll talk later. Now go away." He takes a deep breath, then adds, "Please." He /really/ doesn't want to ruin a future friendship with Chandani. Mom thinks he should be friends with Nayeli’s siblings, after all.
Chandani blinks her eyes. "Alright, I will see you later." Then letting out a soft yawn the female cub slowly starts to head down from the rock she was on hoping to get really get the chance to talk with him like they told each other they would do.
