Sara - Female Cougar
Cheveyo - Male Cougar
Chayton - Male Falcon
Setting:
Lush Grasslands
----------------------------------------
Sara is carrying a large animal in her maw toward cheveyos terrotory as she decided to try and make peace with him as she takes the meat into his territory
Cheveyo is snoozing up in a tree. He had in fact just eaten, his tail twitching down the side of the tree.
Sara drags the dead animal straight towards the tree she determined to make the peaceoffering hoping if she is nice he may be more reasonable
Cheveyo is still asleep up in the tree. Right now he doesn't know the female is there.
Sara drops the animal and scratches at the bottom of the tree to try and wake him up wondering if he is in a deep sleep
Cheveyo grunts and lifts his head and opens his eyes when he hears scratching. "Who is there?"
Sara smiles and says "sorry did I wake you I came with something for you to eat I was hoping to make a peace offering"
Cheveyo grunts. Persistent female. He looks down at the so-called offering. "And what have you brought me?'
Chayton is gliding over the grassland, looking for prey. He's already had a few small meals today and isn't really hungry, but since his luck has been shaky lately he doesn't want to rest until he's had his fill. However, in this state he's easily distracted, and when he spots movement by a tree his curiousity is aroused. Cougars? He hasn't seen many of those around here. Refecting that he could easily perch near the top of that tree and look for prey as from the air, and listening to others is often entertaining, he lazily selects a branch near the top that doesn't seem too close to them.
Sara smiles and says "I brought a white tailed deer for you to feast upon it should feed you for several days" she hopes he will be nice now. or at least nicer
Cheveyo looks down at the deer and hmmmms. He shrugs and rests his head on his paws. "Not hungry."
Chayton glances down in surprise when he hears the cougars are talking about food. A deer? Well that's an excessively large animal to be eating! But he pays it no mind; with two large cougars in the area he's not about to try his luck at getting some. But this cougar must be important if he's got other cougars bringing him food, and especially if he can afford to refuse it. This interests the falcon enough that his intent to continue hunting while he's perched here is forgotten at the moment.
Sara nods and says "you may be hungry later would you please take my offering as a gesture to better relationship towards one another?"
Cheveyo looks down at the deer, considering his options. On the one paw, this means he won't have to spend precious energy later on a hunt. On the other paw, he does not like this female. "I take it on the condition that this by no means means we're at peace."
Chayton listens quietly and adjusts his guesses to match this new information. So the cougar isn't that important; the cougaress is just trying to make him like her better. But it's not working! Chayton can't help but chuckle quietly at this. Too bad he doesn't have a female falcon trying the same thing on him; he'd be full by now.
Sara smiles and says "very well I dont think you would on the first try any ways but I want you to at least try and be more reasonable with me the next time I visit"
Cheveyo chuckles and just closes his eyes. "You can keep thinking that... if you keep bringing me food." Cheveyo says, a joke, sort of. Of course, any male wouldn't mind a female bringing him food, even if the female herself is not liked.
Chayton chuckles a bit louder at this. Why, that attitude reminds him of... his actually. Others, mostly prey, try to bribe him with food all the time. Of course, they're trying to buy their lives and not his friendship. But he's never seen the logic of accepting the promise of food over actually getting food that's right in front of him.
Sara smiles and says "well I am just trying to show you I am not here to be your enemy" she starts to walk away and says "I wish you and your brother luck"
Cheveyo chuckles. He's actually quite sure she's not trying to be his enemy. He continues to wave his tail a bit. "We don't need luck. We need only each other."
Chayton rapidly grows less impressed by the cougar at this information. The falcon certainly doesn't need anyone else at all to help him. Still, he thinks the whole thing was nicely handled. He'd be impressed if he was willing to be impressed by anyone but himself. He mulls this over for a moment, silent.
Sara walks off alone leaving Cheveyo for now she will come back again after a few days to see if he has eaten the kill if he has she will likely get him another figuring she will be able to get closer to his brother if she impresses him with her hunting skills or at least proove she can help him take care of them
Cheveyo opens his eyes and watches the female leave. Then he smiles and twitches his tail. "You can't expect to live long amongst predators eavesdropping like that."
Chayton chuckles at the comment, "Who's eavesdropping? I haven't exactly been hiding on purpose. And I don't see how you could reach me here without giving me plenty of time to get away." he points out, chuckling again, "But then I'm used to cougars. There's a lot of them to the south, where I usually am." It's merely a matter of selecting the right perch and keeping off the ground when they're around; no trouble at all.
Cheveyo hmmms, then drops down to the ground and takes a look to the deer. "Yes. I am aware of those cougars." Cheveyo says without even hiding his venom. Traitors, the lot of them. He sniffs the kill he was given. "I like my deer young."
Chayton cocks his head, even more curious now. With the cougar out of the tree and a large meal just sitting there, the falcon doubts that he's in any real danger since he's small and can fight back. So, for the sake of easy conversation, he jumps off his current perch and glides down to another that's closer to the ground but still a comfortable distance away. "Oh? You don't like them?" he asks, allowing his curiousity to touch his tone.
Cheveyo smiles. "It's still food. I might not be hungry now, but... I don't know. Might prove to be a good thing to have for later." Cheveyo says, misunderstanding what the bird was referring to.
Chayton blinks, taking a moment to figure out how he got that answer from that question. "Oh, you misunderstood me; I was asking about the cougars." he says quickly, his tone bored, "I wouldn't, of course, ask anyone as big as yourself about their food. Not very diplomatic." He smiles at this, nodding with excessive but not completely insincere politeness.
"Yes, no, I don't like the cougars to the south. That being an understatement." Cheveyo says. "Well, maybe some of them are not so bad. But there is a rather core group down south who betrayed my father who I personally would love to see brought to justice."
Chayton really knows very little about his neighbors, but he does know enough to say "Oh, the Amaranth. I know of them. In a way, I suppose I live among them, but we live in different circles, obviously. I see them a lot, but I really don't know much about them." The falcon is extremely neutral on this subject; aside from a few pleasantries that he doesn't value in the least, he hasn't really had any contact with them.
Cheveyo hmphs. "Not all in the Amaranth, either." Cheveyo says. "Their Chieftain and his family. They betrayed my father."
Chayton cocks his head, thinking about this, before suddenly revealing the depth of his lack of knowledge. "Who is their Chieftain?" he asks, curious.
Cheveyo shivers. "One who is my sister's mate: Kein. They're all traitors." Cheveyo says. "Murdered my father. Falsely accused him of brutal murders he never did." Cheveyo feels his hackles rising. "I only trust my brother and my mother now. I can *only* trust them. They would never have turned on my father."
Chayton repeats the name "Kein" to himself, suddenly finding that he knows it. "Oh, well that explains it. They're always throwing that name around as if it should be impressive." he says, absentmindedly. And rightly so, perhaps, if he's a liar and a murderer. Of course, keeping out of one cougar's reach is just as easy as any other, so he's not about to be intimidated by all that.
Cheveyo looks down at the deer, wondering just what his mother is doing now, back with the Amaranth, if there is a way to convince her to leave. To be safe. To NOT be there amongst murderers and liars. He can rest assured knowing his brother is safe for now. He takes a vicious bite of the deer.
Chayton glances at the meat but just as quickly forces his attention away from it. The last thing he wants to do is look like he's interested in the deer; a protective cougar is just as dangerous as a hungry one. Besides, he's not a vulture to be eating from the kill of another. Still, it looks quite delicious since it's fresh. Suddenly the falcon starts to chuckle, quickly explaining, "A few months ago I was hunting and came across a tiny little cougar cub, out by itself. It was small and completely unaware so I tried for it, only to have a cougaress come at the last moment so I couldn't get it. Little twerp said I'd 'be in big trouble' because his 'daddy is Kein and he's going to get you'." He chuckles again at his new appreciation for that memory.
Cheveyo looks at the meat, then bites off a sizable chunk and lays it out for the bird. It piqued his interest. "You don't say." Cheveyo says. "So the one who would be a brother to me isn't even capable of looking after his own cubs." Cheveyo says. "Did you find out the name of this cub?"
Chayton searches his memory, remembering being told but it was so long ago... "Crevan, I believe. Unfortunately, they're all too big to even consider now. Anything bigger than a housecat is simply too big, even if it can't protect itself." He glances from the offered piece of meat, back to the cougar, then back, obviously wary. But in this case he feels the odds are in his favor. He jumps from his perch, landing neatly on the ground, then walks over to the meat. Using his beak to hold it, he drags it away a few feet so that he's at least out of easy reach. "Thank you." he offers, before he starts to shred it into little pieces.
Cheveyo hmms and continues with what meat he has there with him. "I seek information in return." Cheveyo says. "You watch the Amaranth for me, and I'll give you meat. Does this sound to be a fair trade?"
Chayton pauses to think about it. He doesn't normally go for any deal with food involved, but most of the offers are cases where he has no guarantees. But here is a cougar who will want this information on a continuous basis, and if he's cheated once he can simply stop, though there's enough motivation that he doubts that. "If anything of note happens that I'm aware of, I'll be sure to tell you it if I'm compensated." he agrees easily.
"Excellent. You've already told me one thing of note. If you know anything more, there's plenty of meat on this deer." Cheveyo says. "It could continue to flow in your direction."
Chayton considers the piece in front of him thoughtfully, "Unfortunately, as I said, I know very little. Of course, I haven't been trying either." His tone hints that he thinks that his efforts would be fruitful if he did try. "I don't talk to the right cougars about the right things, you understand. I haven't had a reason to." Besides, he's already eaten some today and the piece he has will fill him up.
Cheveyo nods and says. "Then keep your eyes open. The more you can tell me the more you can engorge yourself." Cheveyo says. "for now, I must wish you goodbye."
Chayton swallows the last of what his belly will hold, the speed of his eating hastened by the closeness of the cougar. He nods at the goodbye, "Yes, I believe that I suddenly have a job I must get to." and he might as well start now since his belly is full and he doesn't have anything else to do for the rest of the day. Already he's considering how he might begin to put himself in a better position to get information that will get him more food. He stretches his wings and jumps into the air, circling a little to gain some height before he turns southwards.
