Therdde - Male Duck
Moonseeker - Female Cougar
- Snowy Highlands -
Therdde is getting old. Way too old to be this far north when winter has yet to fully release its grip on the land. Way too old to be playing messenger, especially when there is no entertainment value in it for him. Then again, he's also way too old to speak brashly to a predator when he has a wing firmly under that predator's paw, too, so... Here he is, most reluctantly, looking for a female cougar that the one who sent him described in intimate detail. The exact shade of her fur, the lighter marking on her chest, the red-dyed fur on her chest and shoulder... Of course, unlike some avian species, Therdde's eyesight is not magnificent, and he has to fly far too low to the ground for his liking in order to see such details. As he flies, every flap of his wings reminds him of the male cougar's heavy paw pinning his wing to the ground.
Ever since she has returned Moonseeker has been on her own, at the moment she is settled upon a rock head lowered to her forepaws while her gaze drifts towards the forest and the direction that she left Malak some days before. She's tired and hungry but she hasn't allowed herself to sleep or even hunt while her mind is still going over everything that happened lately. The flapping of birds wings doesn't do much to catch her attention, and while she hears it she doesn't bother trying to find it.
Moonseeker is not the first cougar Therdde has spotted since being released by that vicious brute earlier. She is the first whose red markings stand out to him, though, and as he dips a little lower, he manages to spot the lighter fur on her chest. Finally! He doesn't land immediately. Rather, he looks around, and upon spotting a particularly large rock a fair distance away from the cougar, far enough to allow him to escape, should he need to, he lands, enjoying the chance to give his bruised, but not broken, wing a chance to rest. He stretches his wings out to their full, then pulls them into his body before shouting at the very top of his very small lungs, "You there! Cougar!"
Moonseeker licks across her maw and lifts her head to peer up at the voice, she eyes the bird, a duck, a few moments before blinking and hums softly as she takes in a breath. "What is it duck?" She questions after a moment. Sure some cougars may see the bird as a meal but she doesn't see a reason for it.
Therdde continues speaking just as loudly as he can. "Your name is Moonseeker, is it not?!" The male refused to give him his name, but he did, at least, give the name of the cougar he would be seeking. Predators! Pshaw! They have no idea how to adequately hire a messenger, least of all a duck. He has no need for meat, at least not the kind of meat they eat, and no idea how going to see another predator with no way to prove who they came from can put their lives in danger. If not for the fact that Therdde genuinely fears that male finding out he did not pass the message along, he would not be here now.
Moonseeker blinks at the bird and ahs faintly while shifting to her haunches and nods a moment. "Yes.. I'm.. Do I know you?" She questions while shifting to her paws and hops down from the rock moving a bit closer to the other with a few lashes of her tail.
Therdde spreads his wings, a rather subconscious move, when she moves nearer to him, desperately wanting to take to the air. Then a vision of the male from earlier tearing his wins off and eating them while he watches plays in his head, and he slowly tuck them back in. "You do not know me. I was sent here by a male who would not give me his name, who said I had to tell you something." The arrogant drake then fervently prays for this female to not eat him. Absent is his normal cocky nature when dealing with ground-living predators.
Moonseeker smirks fiantly as she hears him, her tail flicking while she pauses seeing how nervous the bird seems. She drops back to her haunches and hums faintly. "I see.." Is the only thing she offers for a moment. "Well then.. What is the message?"
Therdde relaxes, just a little, when the cougaress sits. Whew. There is a pause as he sets his small brain to remembering what the male told him. Then, he says, "Ah. There is a male named... Cheveyo? ... Who wishes you and yours ill. He is recruiting others to prepare to move on these lands." That was it, right? Yes, Therdde is reasonably certain that it is. And, once again, the stretches his wings out.
Moonseeker blinks while watching the duck a few moments before taking in a breath. "Cheveyo?" The name is somewhat framiler but she can't remember from where. "Did the cougar tell you why he is planning on doing this?" She questions curiously.
"Why, why, why. You always want to know why!" Not just Moonseeker. Predators in general. Always asking why. Why do predators do anything? With a little bit of a hop, Therdde takes to the air, to 'safety'. He does not immediately fly away, though. Rather, he shouts down, "He only said you should be careful!" Of course, originally, Therdde hadn't intended to pass /that/ little bit along, but then he remembered that predators are not terribly bright.
Moonseeker blinks while watching the duck and lifts her head. "Wait!.." She calls out while she stands up following along the ground. "Can you tell him thank you.. And.. That I miss him?" She isn't sure if it was Malak but who else would warn her? And she isn't sure how Malak would even take the message for that matter. "And thank you for the message."
Is she crazy?! Therdde never wants to go near that male again! But... Well, at least if he passes this back on, than that male will /know/ he gave her the message, and that ought to be his salvation... Fine! "I will tell him!" Reluctantly, and only from the safest of places, but Therdde /will/ tell him.
Moonseeker nods while tilting her head to look around area. "Thank you!" She says once more, and ponders just who she is going to tell this information to.
