Wind-Swept Lowlands
----------
Starlight can be seen out in the middle of the lowlands, grazing like she has never seen forage before, but looking quite content as she stuffs her muzzle. Her tail flicks and she moves steadily across the land while she eats,
Luckily, Lootah had been on the edge of the lowlands, doing about the same thing as Starlight was, only not quite as vigorously. It's when the wind blows her scent his way that his head lifts, and the painted stallion breaks into a sudden gallop to find her, his deep brown eyes searching around the prairie for the possibly pregnant mare, tail and head carried tall and proud as he thunders through the area, nostrils flaring with breath already.
Starlight doesn't notice Lootah's approach, as she's far too busy stuffing her face, but she'd certainly be glad if she knew he was there. She whickers softly, and then begins to tear up more grass, long black tail keeping a slow metronome.
Though he was still a distance off, he was close enough now to see her in his path, and let out a echoing whinny, his hooves picking up and carrying him quickly over to her, slowing to a canter, and then a trot, prancing around her in a show off manner, tossing his head a few times. "Hey there, beautiful." He says happily, and does a circle around her, flicking his tail in differing direction. My, he was in a great mood today.
Starlight lifts her head at the whinny, and she smiles. "Hello, Handsome." she whickers softly, though she lowers her head again to graze as she continues to speak. "What has you in such a merry mood?"
What had him in such a merry mood? Why, the three new mares, of course! Brushing his side up against hers, the stallion let out a whicker similar in tone, and stamped his hooves a bit triumphantly. "I wish you would've been there to meet them, Starlight." He began, a laugh mixed in between his words, but he finally came out with it. "Three. Three new mares!"
Starlight chuckles softly. "That's wonderful news." she says. She lifts her head and she nuzzles them. "I'll meet them as soon as I'm able...but I need to finish eating." she grins, then lowers her head to eagerly snap up the grass again.
So intent on grazing.. he'd known many mares who'd been keen to grazing, but perhaps this behavior from Starlight was revealing of something more. Letting his eyes examine her, especially her belly area, he blinked, and nudged at her shoulder playfully. "Eating for two, hmm?" He asks quietly, a shred of hope in his voice that she is, in fact, carrying their foal.
Starlight giggles, and she lifts her head to nudge at him in return, nuzzling along his neck before she again resumes grazing. "I might be." she smiles in a mischevious manner, looking up at him.
"Might be?" He asked, tilting his head to one side and frowning briefly. He'd never actually been around any of the mares that he'd gotten pregnant, nor had he ever been around a pregnant mare before. Yes, the young stallion had much to learn. Lootah's flesh colored muzzle again touched her side, and he blinked once, then again. "When.. will you know for sure?"
Starlight giggles. "Well...I know now. At least, intuitively." she whickers, taking a couple of steps to continue grazing hungrily.
Another curious look is given to the mare, the stallion at a loss of words. So.. did that mean that she knew if she was pregnant or not, and was hiding the information from her? Furrowing his brows a bit, the painted male flicked his tail, and let out a snort. "Well then.. tell me?" He says, his tone confusing in itself. Was he demanding an answer, or joking around? Even Lootah himself wouldn't be able to answer that question.
Starlight grins up at Lootah. He might demand an answer, but that's certainly no way to get a reply from her. "I might...if you convince me." she whickers, smiling softly to the stallion.
Convince her? Well, that was no good. Lootah might've been a charmer, but he wasn't really a convincer. Frowning a bit at her stubbornness, the stallion took an idle step away, a dissatisfied snort escaping from his flared nostrils. Lowering his head, the gold and white male began to graze as well, though not nearly as furiously as she did. His grazing wasn't really out of hunger, but out of boredom.
Starlight is pretty well stuffed as she lifts her head to walk over to him, nuzzling softly. She had only been joking with him. "I'm sorry..." she noses his forelock. "I can just hope you'll forgive the joke next summer, where our foal comes." she smiles.
Perhaps he overreacted a bit, but stallions did that quite a lot. Luckily for these mares, Lootah didn't dabble in the emotion too much. Just when he was rightfully upset over something. But, when Starlight came up to his side and reassured him, he lifted his head, and after chewing his final bit of grass, his ears tilted forward, and he brushed his cheek across her neck, and grinned mildly. Oh, he was excited. Very, very excited, inwardly. But if he was to become the herd stallion, he would have to show levelheadedness, at all times. "That's very good news.." He says, his tone at least letting on that he was indeed, happy. Another brush of his muzzle, and he whickered softly. "I look forward to it."
Dandelion has been keeping herself sparse during her heat. Its rather hard to hide, given her condition, but she's done her best to keep herself away after having decided to wait until spring. Her heat is finally waning, though, as summer finally draws to a close. With that, the palomino mustang mare finds her way through the Lowlands to Lootah and Starlight. She nickers greetings from afar as she rondezvous with them.
Starlight brushes her velvety nose over his shoulder, neck, and then touches her nose to his, whuffing softly. "I'm happy that you're happy, and I'm glad I'll have children once again." she says softly, as he already knows her past. She turns at another voice, and she whinnies to the mare. "Hello, Dandelion!"
Nodding his head so that their noses rubbed together a bit, the stallion's grin widens with what Starlight says, and even moreso when he hears a familiar nicker. Starlight had beat him to the greeting, but yes, it was Dandelion. Lifting his head a bit, Lootah let out a greeting nicker as well, the tone of his voice low but still more than welcoming. "Dandelion, very nice to see you again," he said, leaving the end to trail off a bit, taking a few paces toward the palomino, "For a while there I thought we might've scared you off or something."
Dandelion shakes her head. "Just needed some ... time alone," she nickers, trotting up. She reaches out with her muzzle to breath-exchange her herd-sister and the stallion. "What have I missed?" she asks.
Starlight nods to Dandelion, and she gives the mare a light nuzzle befoe she bumps her head against Lootah again. She's quite distended with food, and thus moves little, preferring rest after such a big meal.
Lootah hadn't much joined in on the mare's breath exchanges or whuffles since he'd been around any of them, but content with the number of mares that were joining their small but growing band, and with the proven knowledge that he would have a foal of his own (one, so far) come this summer, the young stallion was in a great place, mentally. Thus, he let out a light breath near Dandelion, and brushed his cheek against her side, and then turned to look around. "More mares have joined us. We now have six mares and myself." This is said with a bit of pride, and he doesn't hide it as he raises his head and tail to show off a bit. Though it was certainly not all his doing, a bragging voice inside reassured him that his searches paid off. Deep brown eyes glimmering, he then looked to Starlight, sharing a faintly more 'meaningful' nuzzle with her, before he turned on his white hooves to get out of the area. The poor boy was parched, and a trip to the pond not far off seemed to be in order. "I will return shortly." He says this with a nod of his head, and flicks his tail to the left, then to the right, and runs off with a rather triumphant whinny on his way out.
