=== Pristine Lake ===
Half a year has passed since Ruya first arrived in the lands of the Amaranth, reuniting with her eldest daughter just in time to be present for the birth of her first grandchildren...one of which has been named as being next in line for the role of matron by the Great Mother Paoro herself. Since pronouncing herself shamaness of her sister-tribe in the lack of another laying claim to the title, she has been considering many things; the dream which first drove her from the Ahyoka to the Amaranth, young Arroyo's apparent destiny, and how to harmonize this end with the rest of her family, both blood-related and otherwise. Though she has never considered herself remarkably inclined towards the spiritual realm, she has found herself drawn to the lake found to the north of Amaranth's territory, the calm waters proving to be a reliable source of meditative thought for all of her questions and uncertainties.
A bit of a free spirit would be an understatement for this one, Roki is often returning to the lands of his birth.. though not always making that fact known to the tribe. The political strife of his family never really bothered the old featherbrain too much, but their happiness and security was something nice to check in on now and again. He would appear to them in times of need where he could offer advice or assistance. The soft breeze through the trees announces more presence than the featherclad cougar who walks amongst the trees enjoying the singsong of birds who normally would silence respectfully..or fearfully in the presence of a top predator. Drawn towards the growing noises of the waterfall, Roki decides he is indeed thirsty and on drawing closer picks up the scent of someone familiar amongst the steadily growing humidity in the air.. and a smile crosses his maw as he contemplates the wonders of fate's design. A moment later he is beside his daughter, leaning down to lap at the cool waters surface gracefully, scarcely causing her meditative waters any ripples at all in this calm corner of the waterfalls pool.
The lake is a wide enough circle that any other passing visitors on the other bank may go unnoticed (at least consciously) by the thoughtful cougaress, but when another approaches her side to take a drink of the calm waters, Ruya glances up despite his quiet approach -- and is pleasantly surprised to find it's someone she knows very well. "Father..!" she greets cheerfuly, a smile spreading quickly across her maw as she rises to offer him a lovingly affectionate nuzzle. "I haven't seen you in such a long time..." she purrs, "I hope you've been well?" Pulling back to meet her elder's gaze, her smile widens as she offers a token of good news: "You have a pair of young great-grandcubs here in Amaranth now."
Roki finishes his drink and sits up regally as his daughter draws close to show her affections, which is of course returned by a nuzzle to the top of her head along with a kiss. He settles back up and nods quietly at the question of his wellness and then again at the news of the new cubs, though he doesnt seem too surprised to hear it. "Yes, I have seen this." Not personally, but dreams are so vivid and all too often true. "You are a very good grandmother, Ruya. You worry for our family and sometimes the snows fall earlier than we would like to see, but remember that the spring can arrive early as well, often right when we need it most." Early autumn is a strange time to be talking about snows and spring.. but then again Roki is a little grey around the whiskers. His eyes still shine with all the brightness and clarity that was so evident in his youth however.
Ruya seems briefly puzzled by Roki's claim of having already seen his great-grandchildren...before she recalls the incredibly clear, almost lifelike vision of Paoro that came to her in the very dream that set her paws on course for the Amaranth, and she responds with a knowing nod. "Well, you are welcome to meet them, if you would like. And the rest of your family here as well, of course." She knows that with her father being a direct descendent of Paoro, he is related in some way to many of those involved with the Amaranth. At the compliment to her role, and the mystical proverb following it, the blue-lined cougaress slowly nods with a smile. "Thank you, father. You've always known what to say to make me feel better. I only hope I can do the same for the Amaranth...I have taken up grandmother's role of shamaness here, as there were no others. I hope I can do her memory justice." As if that were even possible...the great mother is unmatched by any, if all the stories she's heard are true.
Roki chuckles quietly over his daughters look of confusion. Its a look he has grown accustomed to seeing on many many creatures with whom he has spoken, but it only actually causes him this much amusement when its his own offspring who still look that way.. they should know better by now afterall. Her offer for him to meet his own family is greeted with a silly rolling of his eyes but he pays it no extra mind. He will see them if he is needed, but it isnt necessary for him to do so in person right now. To the news that she will take on the role his mother had for the tribe, however, does seem to be of more relevance, and his rounded ears perk right up... as do the feathers around his shoulders somehow. The old cat can use his shoulderblades expressively it seems. After she expresses her concern about the size of the prints needed filling a calm smile passes over his face. "Of this I have no doubt, daughter. I have heard many whispers that this would come to be, though I have to admit I was beginning to wonder when or if. But the spirits do not lie." His face grows a bit more stoic, which is a rare thing to see from Roki. "You will have to hear voices that you are unaccustomed to listening to, as today you have found an answer in the waters.. so too seek to the trees earth and sky." His tail lashes and he stands up slowly, that smile returning home once again. "Ah yes, an early spring after an early winter." The elder takes his leave, having said what was to be said.
The spirits do not lie. Their words may be enigmatic, or the path unclear, but there is no intentional deception...at least by the spirits with which the Amaranth are in tune. At her father's sage advice, Ruya solemnly nods again, having grown accustomed to hearing many words of wisdom from the older male from the time she was only a cub. When Roki departs as quickly and wordlessly as he arrived, Ruya does not seem too upset; his words and presence, however brief, were enough. Like her eldest daughter, he goes where the winds take him.
