Niyt (f Wolf)
Anoki (m Wolf Pup)
The sky is bright blue overhead, and the weather is warm but not hot. A lovely late-spring day, except for the thunderclouds lurking on the horizon. But they're only lurking, so far; a reminder of recent storms, a threat of more in the future, and an exhortation to enjoy the nice weather while it lasts. Niyt is trying to do just that, walking slowly through the tall grasses. She's got a distant expression, though, her thoughts miles away from here.
Laying in the grass, one paw pinning a stick down, Niyt's little brother Anoki is chewing on the other end of the stick. He's been getting his sharp teeth in, and that means CHEW CHEW CHEW. Because eventually he'll be old enough to eat meat. But right now he's old enough to chew the everlovin' daylights out of everything, and that's what he's up to. However, he also seems to be.. sort of .. quiet. Staring into the grasses ahead of him with thought. A pensive expression for a puppy is rare, but here is one.
Thoughtfull expressions are in this season, but it would seem that Len didn't get the memo. She's just trotting along, skip in her step, humming under her breath - no suprise there. She's not in her own little world today, she's in the great big world around them! Living for life and...all that other cheesy stuff. The wolf spots Anoki laying in the grass, and sees movement that she recognizes as Niyt - why is everyone so quiet?
Niyt pads along, lifting her head occasionally to let the wind ruffle her fur, or to catch some interesting scent. She nearly passes by her brother entirely before the sound of stick-gnawings finally penetrates her distraction. She hesitates, one paw lifted in the air, and then finally turns her steps to head toward Anoki. She's on the opposite side of him as Len is, and so it takes a few steps before her ear flicks at that hum, and she smiles, tail wagging softly. She doesn't say anything immediately, though.
Crunch crunch gnaw crunch, thoughtful the wee pup chews, watching... something. That might not be visible to Len or Niyt. Something he seems to see only because he's drifting in that state of 'awake' and 'sleep' that comes from a lazy day spent basking in sunlight and chewing a stick. Shadows in front of him that move in the grass, one lapine in shape, the other avian, but neither are things he really has words for yet. Well, he has sorta-words. He doesn't notice his sister or Aunt juuust yet.
Visible? No. Niyt's eyes are no better in the world of spirits than they are in the world of flesh. But the rest of her usual senses work just about the same there, and that vague sixth sense that lets her feel the spiritual glow of others works even better when there's no body to interfere with and hide the metaphysical component. So, as she approaches, she's quite aware of the two shadowy shapes before her brother. Aware, but not terribly concerned; while the world of spirits is not without its dangers, these two seem as oblivious to the wolves as many of the wolves are to them. She pads over to her brother, and lies down beside him, putting her head on her paws. Perhaps her thoughts will become less restless if her feet do the same.
When Niyt lays down, Anoki seems to snap awake-- and loses sight of the two shadows he had been lazily watching. He looks up, and then over at Niyt, letting his stick go free, before wagging his tail. "Nit!" he says, happily, before leaning in to lick at her face and shoulder if allowed.
Niyt leans her head forward, just to make it a bit easier for Anoki to lick, and nuzzles back at him. Just because she's distracted doesn't mean she doesn't love her brother! "Hello, little moon."
"Da sky not happy," Niyt gets told by Anoki, as he frowns a bit, "Hasn' been happy for a while! But It ain't yelling or making things wet, so I guess maybe it s'eepin'? He asks, looking to his older sister for explination. "A'nna beenna longy-ear thing been runnin' frommma black birdie."
"Even the sky needs to rest. I think it will keep resting through the rest of today... I can't smell the storm-smell on it yet. But you should make sure to be tucked away in a den tonight. Safe and dry." Niyt smiles, then the smile fades a little as she goes on. "The long-eared one is called a hare," she replies. "She's scared, and that's why she still can't get away."
"Haaa'r," Anoki parrots thoughtfully, nodding. "is like a Rackcoom?" He asks, curiously, before he frowns, and then says, "The black birdie scares me too, Nit. It look happy but .. make me feel not happy inna mah tummeh," he says, frowning, as he shuffles a little closer. Safe and dry? But that means no puddles! Hmf..
A... raccoon? Now where did her brother find one of those? "A little like," says Niyt, and then smiles. "It's okay to be scared. But you can't let it stop you from thinking." Niyt nuzzles between her brother's ears, and puts a gentle wolf-kiss there. "You're smart and brave and strong, and if you put your mind to it, you and your pack can solve any problem, no matter how scary." No puddles while sleeping, at least! Just for running out into come morning.
Anoki oohs, and nods. "An'ki metta Rackcooom. Learn lotta words from rackcoom! Like Fly! And RackCoom." He grins, tail wagging. Then he smiles as he's nuzzled, and licked, and returns the affection with a nuzzle back, huggin one of Niyt's larger paws with his two forepaws happily, before he asks, "... Rackcoom not fly. An'ki not Fly. But Birdies fly, and daddeh fly. How come?"
Niyt chuckles softly as Anoki describes his grand raccoon-meeting, and nods. "Sounds like a nice raccoon, to teach you new things," she replies. Oh, if only she knew! That question is a stumper, though. Anoki might as well ask why the sky is blue! ...actually, no. The sky being blue would be a far easier answer to give. There's a few moments of silence, as Niyt considers on her answer. "Well, everyone has different things they're good at," she finally says. "Sometimes it's obvious things, and sometimes it's ones you'd never expect, but everyone has their own special talents and abilities."
Anoki bobs his head sleepily, then, laying his head against his sister's shoulder, he mumbles, softly, "Daddeh is da bes' ever at E'RYFING. Him and Mommeh." he smiles, then lets his head sag a bit.
Niyt laughs. "Someday, Anoki, you'll be just as good as he is," she replies softly, before she, too, lowers her head, resting along with her brother in this moment of calm between storms.
