Two-River Fork
Tariro - m. Wolf (Alpha)
Coinin - m. Wolf
Catori - f. adol. Wolf
-----------------------------------
Two rivers and one wolf; it was a choice between being on the right or the left. A rock well placed at the conjoining ends of the fork is the settling point at the packs alpha, white coat swaying in the wind and damp. Looking down both rivers he hmms in thought, ears twitching as he listened to his surroundings.
Coinin lifts his head from his paws. He had been resting in his usual spot. Most of the slush seems to have melted away and the weather is turning warmer. This is something that pleases him. He didn't mind the winter, but he definitely likes the spring and summer more. He glances around to see who else is up and about. He notes Tariro and offers him a nod, "Hi Tariro." he says.
A ear flicks from the alpha as his name breaks his focus on whatever he was thinking about. Looking to the side he smiles, "Hello Coinin." Just the wolf he was hoping to meet up with. "How are things?"
Coinin offers the alpha a smile, things have been rather quiet lately, but quiet isn't always a bad thing. After the influx of guests of been kind of nice to rest and get to know everyone. At least everyone that has shown their face around the pack. He hasn't detected the presence of anyone on the borders in the days. Other than a brief chat with Molasses the other day that has been the sum of his activities, "I'm doing well. It's quiet out there. How about yourself?" he asks.
Catori has been wandering around the area on her own for a short bit, though now she has made her way back towards where her aunt and the local pack seems to be found a good amount of the time. Her bright gaze drifts over the ears, ears perking forward while she moves along, tail swaying a few times as she goes.
It was indeed quiet, but Tariro liked the quiet; gave him time to think over a few things. "I've been well." He is then quiet again before picking himself up from the rock and turning to face the wolf befor him. As he does, another comes into view, one whom he doesn't address just yet. "Coinin, mind if I have a word?" He wasn't sure how he would take what he was about to ask of him, but the decision needed to be made.
Coinin raises himself to a sitting position when Tariro asks him for a word. Hopefully there is nothing going on that he doesn't know about. He gives him a nod and a smile, "Sure. Whats up?" he asks. He also spares a glance to Catori and offers her a smile as well, "Hi Catori. Its good to see you again." He hadn't seen her since that night awhile back when they had spoken. He idly wonders if she has had any luck in finding her father. That would be something.
Catori glances towards the voices of otehrs while she moves along, her ears perking forward and she offers a smile and nod to the pair as she gets closer. "Afternoon Coinin.. Hope all is well around here." A glance is offered over to Tariro and she titls her head slightly.
Tariro says nothing as he gives Catori another looking to. This is probably the first time he has see her awake but he wasn't to concerned about it though. Swinging his tail, water steaming from its end, he takes a seat once more upon the rock curling it around his left side. Drawing his attention back on Coinin he says, "You know of my brother, Shag... I have not seen him since the death of Alaqua and his position here as Beta holds little weight to the pack so long as he is gone." Where was he getting at with this.. Not saying another further for a moment he waits to see what the wolfs reponse is.
Coinin listens to what Tariro has to say. Well of course the position of beta is very important to the pack. In most packs its pretty essential that you keep the hierarchy set at all times. This pack thankfully doens't seem to require that level of control. This is likely because most members of the pack are a family and there seems to be a natural hierarchy that develops in families, "Of course. I'm sorry that I never got to meet him." He is sorry that he never got to meet Tariro's brother. He sounded like a nice guy. The last he had heard of him from Neero was that he was out wandering somewhere. Hopefully he returns some day. He gives Catori and nod and a smile, "Things are quiet at the moment."
Catori shifts on her paws and soon settles down to her haunches, tail swaying a few times in the process. A slight bow of her head is offered to Tariro once she figrues out he must be the alpha around here. His quiet while the two speak, a ear twitching forward and while her gaze drifts over the area a few moments.
"Many never got to meet him." Tar states. Perhaps it was for the best though- or was it. Now wasn't the time to ponder that however. "I'm not sure what you may of heard about his departure but I'm afraid he will not be returning to us." A hard thing to say even for him, he looks off to one side. Noticing Catori's nod to him he nods back keeping the respect between wolves. "With that likelihood, I have decided to denounce his title as Beta leaving it open for another to receive."
Coinin nods his head, well that only seems to be logical. Shag can't really act in the role of beta if he isn't here. He offers Tariro something of a sad smile. He knows that it must be hard for him to come to the conclusion that his brother will not be coming back. He knows that the two of them had been rather close, obviously because they were brothers and had run the pack together for some time, "I see..." he says. He isn't really sure tha the likes where this is going. A tiny voice is begining to sound in his mind telling him to run away while he still has the chance.
Catori hums softly to herself but she is rather quiet over the talk of the pack issues. Not like she is part of it, nor has anything to add to start with. Her gaze drifts over to Coinin curiously, wondering what he might be thinking about with the new that has been given.
Tariro says nothing for what seems like a long time while he looks at Coinin in question. Did he know what he was about to ask of him; would he even except it when offered? Those were questions he hoped had good answers. Waiting a moment longer before voicing his thoughts once more, leaps from the rock to the shoreline from his seated stance; shaking his pelt and then approaching Coinin. "Now, I know you may not be my brother but..." he stops there trying to think of something to say should what comes next be held in silence. "You've proven to me that you youself are quite capable of such a title."
Coinin takes a sharp breath when Tariro speaks. That was exactly what he had worried about. While he may have proven himself to Tariro, he doesn't really know what he thinks about this himself. After all he had only been with the pack a few months now and while its true he was feeling at home here, he doesn't know if that is enough time for something like this. He doesn't even know if he is ready for for this type of responsibility. This is a /huge/ responsibility, "Me?" he asks when he remembers to breathe again.
Catori gaze drifts back an forth between the two, a curious look offered and she smiles while glancing to Coinin. Her tail sways about a few times and she burrs a moment. "I'm sure Alpha Tariro has thought long and hard over the subject and would not be offering you the title unless he felt it was fitting of you."
Tariro nods slowly before looking to Catori and cant help but agree with her. "You question your abilities Coinin, but I know you are more than capable." He says before bumping the wolf in the shoulder with his nose. "You've kept watch over the border and given guidance to those who needed it. Its those qualities that I look to see at my side and those qualities alone that allow me to trust in my decision." It was up to Coinin now whether to accept or decline his offer.
Coinin glances over to Catori for a moment before looking back toward Tariro. He isn't in the business of saying no to the alpha and he does trust him. If he thinks he is capable of this then he will trust him on that. He swallows and takes a deep breath. Well here he goes. Might as well jump in. He can't help but find a small amount of humor in this. Back in his old pack there was no chance that he would have been been made beta, and yet when he left and came here he was made beta in just a few months, "I will." Well there you go, can't take it back now.
Catori smiles and tilts her head, a nod seen while her tail thumps against the ground a few times. "Good for you Coinin!" She offers with a happy tone. While she may not know him that well she's still spoken with Coinin a few many times and each time his been a friend to her so she feels this is a good thing.
Tariro could sense the reluctance in Coinin even as he agrees to take on the part. A smile is given and he takes a seat infront of him. "You dont have to follow through immediately.. take your time till you feel comfortable. I know what its like to take on a position you might not think you quite ready for." When he first took on Alpha, he had no idea how to lead a group let alone how to care for one. He feels it'll be the same for Coinin. "I'm here for you Coinin.. ask me if there is something you dont know."
Coinin doesn't even really know where to begin. He had seen his parents be the beta's but he was also much younger and probably not privy to much of the work that they did. He nods his head slowly, "Ok then....where do I start? What does a beta in the Cerulean do?" he asks. He spares a glance to Catori and gives her a smile and and a shrug, "Thanks."
Catori smiles and nods back to him, her tail swaying around. "Welcome." She offers with a soft tone before settling herself down upon the ground and stretches out relaxing for the moment.
Tariro now there was a question he wasn't to sure about. Sure his own parents were beta but that doesn't mean he paid any attention to what they did. If he had to guess however he would say, "I would say, stick to what you've been doing. When a decision needs to be made and I'm not around you are lieable to make the best choice."
Coinin can live with that. At least its probably something that he can get used to. There don't seem to be alot of decisions that need to be made on the spot anyway. After all most things seem to flow nicely here. He can probably just skim along for awhile while he gets used to doing the job, "Ok. I think I can do that." That seems easy enough, he is sure it won't always be easy but at least its a begining.
"You'll do fine." He says this with confidence and reassurance. Tar doubts there will be anything to highly important happening around here that he wont be around for. "Now, I welcome you to life as a Beta." All that needed to be done now was to tell the pack, but how and who would do it?
Coinin offers Tariro a smile and a shrug, "Thanks. I hope that you know what you are doing..." And he really does. While its true that there aren't a great many decisions to be made he doesn't want to do this job alone, at least Tariro will be around, though the thought of Tariro being on the older side does bother him a bit, "You have to promise me that you won't die or vanish mysteriously or something."
Does Tariro know what he's doing, well thats a matter of opinion, but in all honestly, yes- yes he does. Chuckling suddenly, "Hey, I may be getting old but that doesn't mean i'm going leave." He says, "This is my home and my families home. I'm here till the end."
Coinin smiles and shrugs his shoulders, "Well just make sure the 'end' isn't too soon ok. That means nothing dangerous...and not doing anything stupid." Not that he has ever seen Tariro do anything stupid, but still. His face then grows a bit more serious, "I will try not to mess this up. I can't replace your brother, but I will try to do a good job."
Tariro frowns, "Aww, but.." He smirks. He's going to have to find something to be stupid and dangerous with now just in spite of him now. Joking of course he nods. "I am glad to hear that. I have full confidence you'll keep your word too."
