-- Fallen Log --
With a night of patroling ahead of the Storm she is making her way towards the river to get a drink. Felstride is off the other way checking out the area before catching up with her. The alpha hops up onto the fallen long with a yawn escaping her, forepaws grip at the log's surface and she gives herself a shake before walking down the length of the log and then hops down the other side. Maw twitching and ears perk as she takes in the different scents and sounds of the area around her. Its been so quiet lately and that really bothers her to some degree.
"Very foolish of you to be apart from your big brute of a mate, Storm," comes a disembodied voice that seems to float out of the darkness itself before Lilith's ghostly pale coat betrays her presence. "I'd think you'd have learned by now the dangers of going outside of your den alone...what with two of your pack members already dead," the peppered wolf continues to taunt, padding steadily closer towards the rival female. "Are you so brave as to tempt fate tonight, my fellow alpha?"
Several lengths behind Lilith is Verissimus. As usual, the large, aging male prefers to lurk in the shadows where only the glow of his eyes can be seen - watching, waiting. He doesn't smell any of the other Lazuli wolves in the immediate area, though he knows his nose isn't as keen as it once was; if one of Storm's comrades should sneak up on them, he's ready to spring to his mate's assistance. His thick black lip curls back, exposing a brief glimmer of fang - a silent nod to Lilith's words.
Misery has been loitering around the area since her meeting with Storm, though hasn't run into any wolves..mostly intentionally. Still, she's purposely left her stink all around the woods at the base of the foothills, so that when she's actually in the area, it's more difficult to tell the new scent from the old. Catching wind of the wolves about the log, the coyote makes her way into the area, though is careful to remain both upwind and out of sight, hunkering down in the shadows, barely within earshot, to observe. There's not a whole lot someone her size could do, afterall, against a bunch of wolves.
Not as easily spotted, her earthy pelt blending nicely with the brambles and soil, Rayen makes her existence known in other ways. "Your friends are waiting for you, Storm." It's more along the lines of laziness, not caution, that keeps Rayen from moving into plainer view. Her golden eyes peer across the area, searching for anything else that might be, or will be, present.
Standing guard on den duty, Miakoda has been ill at ease, sensing, or scenting something in the air. It's only after having someone else take her post that the Beta female moves through the foliage of the forest, squeezing herself out of the dense undergrowth and towards the fallen log. Unfamiliar, yet sickeningly familiar scents are caught in the air, and they are enough for her eyes to narrow and lips to curl up a little. With ears flattening against her head, she arrives on the scene, eyes turning to any visible face that she can see, settling lastly on Storm. "Storm.." murmured from some ways behind.
Others of his pack might be standing; Tamanous sits, near Rayen, narrow eyes further squinted with an amusement that is decidedly nasty. He has personal and bitey problems with Storm. "I'm quite looking forward to eating your stomach out," not at all as pleasant in tone as he normally is.
Bodhi slowly pads into the area from the direction of the river having had some business there, his gaze surveying the area carefully and blinking slightly at the sight, brows furrowing slightly as he watches those visible before making his way over toward Storm and the also arriving Miakoda "Sounds like there might be trouble" his nose wrinkling slightly in distaste.
Closer to Lillith than to the rest of her pack, Frost stands behind and beside the alpha. Unlike the others, she says nothing, just fixes the Lazuli alpha with a sharp electrum stare. Her lips pull back in an expression pleasant enough to be termed a smile - if it didn't bare her teeth quite so much. As it is... no, decidedly not.
The scent is watch catches Storm's attention first, there here.. So close to the den? Her ears flick back while her gaze drifts towards Lilith watching her through narrowed eyes while lifting her head. She shows no fear as the rest of her pack trickles in behind her. "I'll go where I want on my lands." Her voices carries to reach the others. "I'm braver then your so called back and yourself. You and yours have no honor, nor will they ever have it." A ear twitches as she looks towards Rayen's voice. "They are waiting, and they will have to wait a long time before I see them agaiin." The alpha refuses to die here and there paws that is for sure. Her hackles raise, tail stiffening while a thick growl escapes her throat. "Amusing.. I'll enjoy eatting your tounge." The alpha offers back to Tamanous, movement behind her catches her attention, ears flicking as she doesn't take her gaze off the ones before her. "Mia.. Bodhi, We have uninvited guests." Meaning, there is going to be a fight..
"Your lands?" Lilith cackles. "You still hold that delusion, even now? I suppose we'll have to resort to pure force to stake our claim, then," the white-and-black shewolf growls in the face-off of the two packs, her ears slicking back against her head as she suddenly lunges for the other alpha, glistening fangs aimed at the throat of her equal opposite.
Rayen laughs a smooth, hushed laughter. But she says nothing more, content to studying the other Lazuli wolves that have shown up. Even when Lilith makes her move, Rayen is still. Picking her target takes careful deliberation.
Miakoda glances over to Bodhi as he arrives thoguh soon returns her attention to the other pack, eyes narrow and a soft growl rumbling in her throat. As Lilith lunges for Storm, she snarls and races forward, keeping her head and aim low, going for a clinging bite to the other Alpha's foreleg.
When Lilith moves, Tamanous jerks to his paws, puppet-quick. He doesn't move for a moment, watching, and then when he does dart in, biting at Miakoda's flank, it's in several quick twitchy movements, trying to bite and then pull back.
Bodhi bares his fangs with ears folding back as he listens to Liliths little spiel, his muscles tense as he watches. The moment Lilith starts her lunge tho he lets out a loud growl of his own as he starts a full out charge aimed directly at her side with the effects that might have.
Already on her feet, Frost lunges for Bodhi the instant he even looks like he's going to move. The lean wolf is initially most interested in getting between him and the alpha's fight, but that doesn't stop her from biting at any part of his body she can reach, ears flattened against her own skull.
Storm was expecting Lilith to attack first, she was hoping for it actually. the Lazuli alpha darts forward shorting the distance between she and the other alph while her head is lowered to protect her throat. Her jaws snap out as a thick growl tumbles from her chest and she tries to bite down against the side of Lilith's neck.
Her arrival heralded by a crashing and thundering through the underbrush, Gloom leaps into the fray with a snarling roar that borders on bear-like. Her trajectory takes her directly toward the snarling alphas.
Ember is close behind Gloom. The small, dark grey wolf does not appear to pose much of a threat to anyone one on one, but something about his sly movement -- and his rather large and powerful companion -- indicates he may know how to fight. He draws in the scene, giving a few moments' studious glance of each Sangre and each Lazuli present, appearing to hunt for a target ... but what target, only a moment in time will tell: the moment Gloom motions to strike. He follows her in, loping steadily, intentionally avoiding betraying his own focus.
Crashing against Storm, Lilith snarls, her jaws tearing at her fur and scraping the skin beneath her heavy coat, possibly doing more damage than she can tell in her bloodlust. Her foreleg is grabbed by Miakoda, keeping her from lunging much further against Storm's form, and she can feel the crack of ribs as Bodhi slams against her; throughout it all, she continues to bite wildly, thrashing about in a flurry of fangs and claws against her rival. The arrival of any other wolves goes unnoticed, assumed to be other Lazuli members; regardless, Lilith is completely focused on this duel - very likely to the death - of shewolf alphas.
Verissimus may be old, but he is also quick. As Gloom barrels toward Lilith and Storm, the dark alpha lunges from his position and moves to intercept the she-wolf by cutting her off. This fight, which has been a long time coming, is between the females of Sangre and Lazuli; for the love his mate, he isn't about to let an outsider interfere. "Rayen!" he snarls, his jaws snapping and slavering when he barks her name. No further command is issued; hopefully, she should know what he wants her to do.
There's her target. There's not a moment's pause when Verissimus speaks. Rayen erupts from her cover, the flesh of her muzzle folding away from her teeth. "You were not invited!" She snaps, sinewy legs impelling her toward Gloom while her jaws aim to bite down whatever part of the flesh they find first. She had noticed Ember, but leaves him right now; he's not the bigger threat, literally speaking.
Miakoda's jaws clamp down tightly around Lilith's foreleg, and she bites down hard into the flesh, a snarl voicing her hatred as she twists her head to the side, as one would do when trying to tear off a piece of meat. But her efforts are short-lived as she is soon attacked from behind by Tamanous. A snarl of pain has her releasing the unwanted alpha's leg, and she turns to face the male, head ducked as she lunges forward, jaws snapping metalically for his shoulder.
Bodhi can't help but grin ever so slightly as he feels and hears his solid impact on Lilith, that tho is quickly replaced by a combination of a snarl and yelp of pain as he feels Frosts fangs bite into his shoulder. Another snarl released moments later tho this time in anger as he turns his attention toward the source of the pain and aiming a pawstrike at her concidering the closeness
Frost snarls, disdaining the paw that lashes out at her face. The lean wolf backs up a couple of paces only to slam forward into the male's side, attempting to bowl him over - or at least knock him off-balance. Even if that does put her right back in his snapping range. She doesn't seem to care much about any damage she takes.
A faint grunt escapes Storm as she crashes into the other alpha, her jaws snapping and ripping at Lilith's fur while she is ripped into as well. Her shoulder and neck is caught a few times, but she refuses to let the ohter get a good hold on her through. She slashes out with her forepaws trying to drive Lilith backwards. As for the new wolves in the area she doesn't look or notice them.. Little busy after all.
Tamanous' flanking attack likely saves Lilith from suffering a broken leg as well; at least she can still move - if painfully - with only a broken rib. Though the more she thrashes against Storm, the more discomfort that broken rib seems to provide, becoming a sharp stab of pain in her side as she continues to fight.
Gloom puts on the brakes as she sees the cluster of snarling, biting wolves surrounding the tussling alphas. In the split-second's hesitation, she sees Rayen rushing toward her. She snarls, bracing herself for the impending impact, her raised hackles making her look all that much larger and intimidating. Her lips curl back over her fangs and she lowers her head, ears splayed, tensing. "Neither were you!" she snaps, then dives forward, dodging to the side in an attempt to use her attacker's momentum against her and rip her shoulder open as they pass.

Ember takes advantage of himself not being a bigger threat by striking toward Rayen, aiming to distract her with a nip to her hindleg, approaching from such an angle as to deny Rayen any solid target on himself. His hidden intent is to irritate her and cause her to desire to strike him, giving Gloom a better chance to bring her full strength to bear with Rayen hopefully distracted on him.
When Gloom makes her move, Verissimus makes his. With the giantess distracted by Rayen, he comes in from the opposite side and makes a grab for one of her ears with his teeth. If he succeeds, he jerks his head to the side and yanks abruptly downward in order to give his packmate better access to her face, vulnerable eyes and nose. If he doesn't, he drops to the ground like a stone and goes, snapping and snarling, for the soft flesh of her underbelly instead.
Aureate eyes glint with deranged anger at this assertion. She needs no invitation; this party was thrown for /her/. Ember's attempts to distract her go mostly unnoticed and unacknowledged, other than an irritated lash of her tail. However she shows a similar lack of recognition to the damage Gloom causes, even as the skin tears away to expose a sliver of her shoulder muscles. The growl that rolls from her throat is of bloodlust alone, and Rayen quickly follows up on this-- twisting around sharply to snap at Gloom's head, however the new injury does slow the speed of her turn by a precious second or so.
Miakoda bites into Tamanous's already bitten shoulder, deepening the cut with savage repetitive snaps and tears. But she doesn't go without receiving another wound, this one more painful than the one to her flank. The other wolf's teeth sink deeply into her foreleg, and her grip is momentarily lost on him as she gives an instinctive pull back from him. In retaliation, if only to try to get him to unclamp his jaws from her, her head turns sharply and she aims continuous snaps at the side of his neck, trying her best to get at the soft underside of it, but in the position they're in, it's difficult.
When Miakoda bites at him, Tamanous whines a little from the back of his throat, and when he feels her grip loosen he pulls away at once, stumbling a little.
Bodhi snorts slightly as he sidesteps Frost's small charge and lashes out with his paw again at her face, tho this time he actually takes the time to aim after her eye as she passes.
Perhaps it's fortunate that Bodhi lashes out with another cuff; as Frost barrels past, he strikes the ridge of her brow, splitting skin and sending a wash of blood over her eye. She snarls at the sting, and redirects her momentum into a snapping slash at the male's hindquarters, since there are now no obstacles in her path to crash into.
Storm grunts as the jaws slash across the side of her neck while she backs off a few steps once able. Though not for long. The alpha lunges forward towards Lilith, jaws going to try and grab hold of her shoulder as she attachs from a new angle. Her forepaws going to slam back against the other alpha's side and back while trying to drive her downwards to the ground. So much rage and anger is in the alpha right now that the fight around her falls on dim ears as she just wants to rip apart the one that has caused her family so much pain recently.
Someone, it's unclear exactly who in the tangle of wolves, jostles Lilith, ramming some body part into her side, and something snaps loudly - but the twigs below them are too moist from the nearby river to crack so easily. Almost instantaneously, the peppered white wolf freezes mid-snarl, her silver eyes shooting open, as the sound was accompanied by a sharp puncturing pain within her. Her jaw hangs wide, her breath cut short by the jolt of agony, but when she tries to inhale again, no air reaches her lungs. Startled, the alpha tries to speak, but without air to push out of her lungs, nothing but silence leaves her muzzle. Falling away from Storm, she stumbles for a few steps before collapsing onto the side of the punctured lung, only succeeding in driving the fractured rib further in, the alpha struggling for oxygen like a fish out of water. Thrashing about for a moment as though suffering from a seizure, Lilith's widened silver eyes lose their brightness after a few moments without oxygen, fading to a dull grey in death, her thrashes subsiding to simple twitches.
Gloom scores a hit, but pays the price for her distraction. She spies Verissumus' approach at the last moment and swivels, stamping her forepaws down and grasping with splayed toes, claws digging furrows into the dirt; her hind-quarters continue her momentum, swinging her considerable bulk at the charging male. Her abrupt position-shift doesn't save her from his snapping teeth, though it does minimize the amount of ear he grasps. His tug, however, doesn't quite have the effect he likely hoped for. Gloom is anything but vain, and a torn ear isn't going to stop her. She yanks against his grasp, twisting her head (tearing her ear in the process) and trying to get her teeth on his throat.
Ember targets Verissimus this volley, but instead of a light nip, he goes for the elder wolf's throat slipping in from behind, taking advantage of his neck stretching during his attempt to reach up to grab Gloom's ears. True to his defensiveness, however, he strikes from the side opposite Rayen (which, since Rayen is attacking Gloom places Gloom between himself and Rayen as well) and endeavours to keep himself pressed so close to Verissimus' hide with his petite form that only a very precise, disciplined and calm strike could safely land on Ember without endangering harm upon Verissimus. Two sets of fangs are going for Verissimus' throat now, one from each side ...
Two sets of fangs are going for Verissimus - one from each side, it's true. It seems, at least to him, that the best thing to do is move abruptly backwards in the hope that the two allies will collide with each other. Lilith has fallen - that's all that matters. Not Gloom. Not Ember. Not even Rayen. "Retreat!" comes the alpha's ragged snarl as he turns with the speed and agility of a wolf half his age, sprinting back in the direction from which Sangre first came.
When Rayen finds flesh, she bites down harder, where ever her teeth end up. She doesn't see her leader fall, yet Rayen jerks back, almost as if by an invisible force. Her jaws slip away from Gloom, abandoning an opportunity she might have had to cause anymore damage, and snaps her head around. Lilith is not fighting, Lilith is lying motionless on the ground, while the other alpha is still standing. "Unacceptable!" Ignoring Verissimus' calls for withdrawal, Rayen turns to spring toward Storm as everything else around melts away from her reality.
With bite wounds to the flank and leg, Miakoda is bleeding as much as anyone else probably is, and with a momentary lull in her fight, she has a moment to breathe and assess the situation. One down, all others still up. And seeing Rayen going for Storm, she growls and heads towards her, movement a bit hindered by a limp because of that foreleg.
Bodhi widens his eyes and lets out a loud whine of agony as he feels Frost's teeth sink into his hindquarters and ripping out a chunk of flesh. It does not hinder him from turning to face her again tho and make an leap toward her as he grimaces in pain from the jolts going through the wounds from the effort, jaws open wide in the hopes of finding something to bite
In turn, Bodhi's teeth set themselves into Frost's haunches, the female snarling in pained response. She drops, letting her weight carry her to the ground despite his grip, her teeth snapping for the lower, weaker portion of his nearer hindleg.
Storm is surprised as she feels Lilith stumble away from her, a clump of fur and flesh resting in her jaws until she spits it out. A thick snarling growl escapes the alpha as she moves forward eyeing the dying wolf. "I told you this would end.." Her jaws snap at Lilith's face not about to make her passing easy like she did for her packmates. The alpha's gaze turns to the rest of her group making sure they are indeed leaving, a large bloody forepaw is pressed against the dead alpha's head pushing it to the wet ground. Her eyes lock onto Rayen and a thick snarl escapes her as she lunges forward bloody jaws snapping for the other's throat.
Gloom loses one target suddenly. She whirls on Rayen, turning her focus there until her assailant pulls away and heads toward Storm. Snarling, Gloom doesn't let up, diving after the smaller wolf, snapping at her haunches and rear legs...or even her tail.
Ember's fangs find only a loose bit of fur instead of a vein as he was hoping for. It does not take long for him to turn and attempt another strike at the retreating wolf, really pouring on his speed and agility to try and atch up. Ember snaps at his heels, pouring on every ounce of speed to attempt to get him to slow down, that Gloom might get in some more licks, except ... Gloom isn't following! Ember gives up the chase when he realizes this is the case, and darts back toward Gloom and Rayen.
Gloom's teeth do catch Rayen's tail. But this is one persistant wolf, and with the grisly sound of ripping flesh, part of her tail gives way to display the scarlet stained bone beneath. "They will have no peace." She whispers. Instead of attacking, Rayen throws her head back, meeting Storm's jaws with her throat. Her maw twists into a defiant smile.
Miakoda's slow run soon slows more into a lope, having not yet reached Rayen and the ohers, but seeing very well what's happened with that particular wolf. Her ears raise in vague alarm at her suicidal stunt, but soon lay back against her skull carelessly afterwards. She whips around, still favoring a leg, teeth bared at any who still remain.
With rage in her eyes Storm just bites down against Rayen's throat while dragging her downwards to slam her upon Lilith's already dead form. A large forepaw shoves down against the dark wolf's side while she twists her head to try and break Rayen's neck in the process. Anyone who knows the alpha like Mia and Bodhi would most likely be confused by the sight of her ripping into this wolf with such hatred, they just pushed her way too far..
Gloom skids to a halt after she sees Rayen go down. She shakes her head, sending the fur and flesh of Rayen's tail flying. Her right ear is torn, to match her scarred right eye, and the fur on the left side of her neck is matted with blood, but otherwise she appears largely unharmed. She snorts, sneezing fur from her nose, just watching Storm.
Ember stands close behind Gloom. He has glimpsed Storm before, hiding and spying from the shadows, but never really been up close to the harborer of the traitor to Tremayne before, muzzle to muzzle. He seems completely unmoved by the wolf-on-wolf violence, but keeps his ears perked and his focus on Gloom and anyone who might threaten her.
Gasp! Is it .. over? Miakoda's lips are still pulled up to reveal fangs as her eyes dart left and right, looking to Storm now and staring at her briefly. But there's still sounds of struggle, and eyes dart to Bodhi and Frost. WIth a renewed growl, she heads their way to help out her packmate, aiming a bite at Frost's side.
Bodhi blinks for a moment at Frost's unexpected drop but quickly releases his bite and limps forward a few steps barely avoiding her snapping jaws before turning fully to face her again
That her teeth close on air doesn't faze Frost in the least; she just promptly lunges for Bodhi's underside instead, even before he completes his turn. The lean wolf is sufficiently fixated on her target that she makes no attempt to fend off Miakoda's attack; she has no problem with going down, as long as she gets a good, solid hit in on him in the process!
With Rayen dead Storm lets the bod go and stands there panting a few moments. The sound of Mia and Bodhi still fighting get her attention and she turns watching the three. Her head lowered she starts to move forward, blood running heavyly from a few of her wounds but she isn't about to die tonight like she said. She'll lets Mia and Bodhi finsh off Frost, hanging back just incase it seems.
Gloom snorts, rumbling deep in her throat. She turns away from Storm, fixing her good eye on Ember. She gestures after Tamanous, one of the wolves who fled.
Miakoda is apparently not one for mercy, very much knowing that these wolves showed no mercy to her lost packmates. And so as Frost goes down, Miakoda wastes no time in trying for her throat, fangs bared as she attemps to sink them into the soft flesh beneath her muzzle.
Bodhi whines in agony for the second time this night as he feels Frost's fangs tear out yet another large chunk flesh of his body, his movements somewhat unsteady but fast as he backs up a few steps and aiming to sink his fangs into her throat.
With two wolves going for the same target at the same time, how likely is it for either to connect? Yet Bodhi, by virtue of proximity, gets in a solid hit, if not quite on target. All the same, it has the desired effect; blood stains Frost's multihued pelt dark crimson, and the light in her eyes slowly ebbs with its loss. But she continues to snap at him until her life is spent entirely, trying for one last score.
Bodhi gives a slight shake of his head as he backs away from Frost's snapping jaws and watches her last few moments murmuring softly "You fought well" Once he is sure she has died tho he pads over once more offer her an respectfull nuzzle before looking at Miakoda murring softly "The den next I think."
Storm snorts faintly while lifting her head, and drops back onto her haunches while her eyes close as she listens to the sounds of the fight carry on. Her head lifts and a deep howl escapes the bloody alpha. She and her pack have won.. Finally, but at what cost?

[OOC: And thus ends the reign of terror of the Sangre pack. I appreciate everyone who participated and made this into such a great TP -- I look forward to the next one with you all! And if you have any ideas or suggestions for future plots, please don't hesitate to post them or page me about them!]
