---Waterfall Ledge---
A cold shower of rain has been falling across much of the area, what snow was left has been slowly washed away thanks to it. After the rather difficult conversation Kachina had with her brother the day before she has stayed by herself for much of the day. The young cougar is curled up upon a rock that is near the cliff, head settled upon her forepaws while her tired gaze drifts out at the sky. She's slept little with so much on her mind, a ear twitch is about the only thing that might prove she is even awake at the moment. The rain is at least stating to slow an that is when Kach slowly moves, shifting upwards to her paws and makes her way towards the cliff to peer out over the land before her with a soft breath soon escaping her.
The rain is a snaredrum against the stones, tiktiktiktik. Behind it is the bass rumble of the waterfall, crashing down over the rocks. Together they make a white noise generator that helps to block out the rest of the mountaintop. The mist does the same; hanging in the air, the raindrops fall down through it and splash against the ground only to rise up again as particles of that same fog. The pattering rain grows less, and the roar of the falls grow greater as Kachina approaches them. Before her, past the veil of mist, lies the world of the lowlands. Rivers, flowing to the sea. Plains, bursting with spring grass. Forests, a patchwork of blooming trees and new leaves. The sky above is a soft blue, adorned with clouds of gentle white and stormy gray blowing in the wind. All this lies before her; stretching out to the horizon, so very far away from here.
In the spot where she slept, the fog deepens; it trembles, blurring in on itself to form an echo of her presence there. The form of a cougar; raindrops splashed upon a ghostly pelt in the spots of youth, and eyes the softest of silver blues.
Kachina lets her gaze drift off, following the water as she can only wonder where it may lead. Her gaze then turns downwards eyeing the drop before her as her ears pin back. The thoughts that came to her the night before after the conversation with Chaska all come flooding back to her. Would it be better if she was dead? A rock is pushed off the edge and she watches as it falls downwards, hitting against the rock face in the process until he plunks into the water below. Her mind spinning for a few moments before a soft breath escapes her and she turns away from the cliff and pauses at the place she was just resting upon. She blinks, her head tilting to the side as she slowly moves forward a few steps watching the ghostly form there.
The ghostly head lifts, and the expression on it is one of sorrow. The pale blue eyes focus on Kachina, looking at and through her. The cougar uncurls and slowly rises - a larger cat than Kachina, though he occupied her place. He lowers his head, giving a chuff before slowly padding toward the younger. His paws leave no trace, just spattered rain on stone. His voice is a whisper carried straight to the ears. "It has been a very long time."
Kachina pulls her head back as she watches the other stand and then move towards her. She looks beyond confused, ears lowered and head soon lowering as well while her form quivers. While the whisper may be for her it doesn't register in her mind for a good few moments and she takes in a soft breath. "What.. do you want?" Is questioned after a moment. The other animals she sees don't often speak with her, well at least not in the sense of 'speaking'. They have other ways which she does tend to pick up on after some time in there presence.
There is an immeasurable sense of sadness in the ghostly cougar's expression, his ears pinning back against his head. "I want to see you," he answers softly. "I want you to be happy." With that, he looks away, over the world stretched out below. He's quiet, though this place is never quiet. His gaze remains far-off, but his voice returns. "I am sorry."
Kachina relaxes slightly as the other seems to be sad, the voice at least somewhat calming to her. She shifts slowly, form lowering so she is settled back upon her haunches, and tail curling tightly at her side. At the 'I am sorry' it seems to dawn on her who it is. "Father?.." Is questions with an unsure tone. She has told Chaska that she could see there father, truthfuly she has never seen him before, unless this is him now before her..
Tantallon turns his head, regarding Kachina with his eyes that are so bright and yet are only the sky beyond. They glisten with the captured raindrops of his tears. The cougar of the mist smiles, though the sadness is still upon him. "Hello, daughter." He steps toward her, starting to nuzzle - then stops abruptly in the middle of the motion, for what is he save a shade, a ghost with no more form than the mist he seems? "Paoro never said how hard this was," he murmurs to himself.
Kachina watches him quietly for amoment more before she shifts closer, wanting to hug him but once he stops the movement she knows it would be impossible. "Paoro?" Is questioned for a moment, thinking she heard that name but she doesn't linger on it. "Chaska said you was dead.." Well he is but still that's not the point, she wants to ask why, what happened.. Though the questions never escape her. "Chaska's gone.. Mom too." Her ears lower back into her fur an she takes in a faint breath. "..An i'm going crazy.." Talking with a ghost is a good posibility of why she feels she is going crazy.
"I know," Tantallon says softly. "We watch, we spirits, but there is little we can do. Even to visit like this..." He trails off into silence, and shakes his head. "Nothing is simple or easy. Remember that, Kachina. Any hunt, any journey takes effort, and for every choice taken, there is something given up."
Kachina is quiet for a moment, that does make sense after all, there spirits. She takesin a breath and lets her gaze lower to the ground, watching the wet stone that is there quietly. "I.. suppose.. that makes sense." Is murmured out with a soft tone. "Are you here to tell me I should go on my quest?" This questioned after a moment.
"No," he says. "I... cannot. I have seen that path. There are answers, but..." Tantallon closes his eyes, and his form wavers, dissolving toward the mist until he forces himself to stiffen, to once more open those eyes that glisten with the rain. "I am here to tell you that I love you." He smiles gently. "No matter what."
Kachina wonders why he is here, if its not to push her into going on this quest. A soft breath escapes her and tilts her head. "So.. you have seen my path?" Is questioned before she shifts quiet knowing he can no answer her questions on it. That wouldn't be fair after all. As the ghostly mist starts to dissolve she blinks and moves to her paws. "Father.." She pauses as the mist returns and she smiles, a few tears cling to her cheeks and she takes in a soft breath. "Thank you.." She takes in a breath. "I love you.. An miss you so much." Though she gets the feeling that he already knows that.
Possible paths, at least; for they twist and fork by the moment, and even the most far-seeing cannot make sense of them at any distance. That is the true reason why Tantallon cannot speak; he would gladly be unfair, cheat in the most horrendous of ways, for his child. But chasing down the future is like pouncing a raindrop, and the bat of his paw to speak would alter it beyond recognition. The cougar smiles sadly, and he steps toward Kachina once more - but this time, he does not stop, even when his muzzle touches hers, soft and no more there than the mist. "I love you, and Chaska, and your mother... so very much." he murmurs, and takes another step, his ghostly body overlapping with hers, merging into her form and fading as it does.
Kachina takes in shakey breath while she lifts her head tow atch her father, a soft smile seen while she stands still as the mist moves through her it would seem. Her eyes close tightly, a few more tears roll down her cheeks in the process. "I wish you didn't have to leave.." Is said with a soft murmur while the mist fades away. Her head lowering once he seems to be gone. A few more questions on her mind, though one idea stands out in where she could possible find the answers.
Tantallon is gone. The rain has stopped. The sun shines down through the clouds, illuminating the mist with sparkling light and making it quite clear nothing lurks within.
