Ahiga - M. Wolf
Niyt - F. Wolf
It's been a bit of traveling for the Ute pair with more stops along the way than Ahiga had planned for. But when one is traveling with one who has never travelled before, that likely should have been expected. Stops to rest. To drink. To discuss proper wolf guest etiquette. To pee. Nothing too out of the ordinary. But as his surroundings grow more familiar, Ahiga walks with more caution, taking time to test the lingering scents in the area. There's been no overwhelming trace of dog, death, or destruction, though there is a doggish scent that lingers here and there. It's enough to keep him alert as he continues with Althaea along the river. The younger female has stopped to rest, and Ahiga has left her beneath a cover of foliage to scout ahead a short ways. And so he arrives at the river fork alone, moving quietly and deliberately with head held low and golden eyes constantly moving.
The river sings a river song; the wind a tune above. The sky and earth together lay, for all the world's in love~ So go the words to the tune Niyt is humming under her breath as she drifts along. For all there's been bits of concerning news lately, there's also been enough pleasant ones to keep her mood positive. The blind wolf is wandering down to the fork - perhaps she'll check out that waterfall for Anoki. There's good hunting just beyond it, anyhow; down in the grassy fields. For now, she pads along at an unhurried lope.
Nothing to be seen, initially. Ahiga does not relax. Being alone on another pack's land is daunting enough on a normal day, but with suspicions that bad things might have found the Cerulean too brings forth another kind of nervousness. Who knows what traps may be lurking? And so he keeps his eyes and ears open as he moves onward, searching for more clues when the sound of humming drifts to his ears. It's subtle, but detected, and he stiffens as he turns, ears pressing against his skull. But the form that he sees at a slight distance is thankfully wolfish, but he does not begin to feel relief until recognition sets in. He knows this wolf! A bit of his tenseness eases, though he still approaches with caution. He is, afterall, intruding on /her/ lands. "Niyt?" he calls, voice gentle, yet different than when he last saw her seasons
Niyt goes silent and tilts her head at the sound of a voice, ears flicking as they seek to locate that voice, nose twitching as it searches for scent. Now then, who... She pads a few steps closer, paying attention carefully to those senses that remain hers. A young voice, if certainly no puppy. A bit deep, and the scent is... ah, that's one of the Ute wolves, isn't it? The pack-scent is the first thing to be deciphered, and she smiles as she takes a few more steps. "Hello," she says, her tone friendly, and there's a pause as she continues to seek for the specific name that goes with this specific one.
Ah, a smile. Ahiga exhales a slight breath as his tail begins to move, swaying gently from one side to the other. It's nice to see a friendly face after having been bombarded by those that are anything but, and those untrustworthy. "It's Ahiga, from Ute," he offers as he approaches, pausing at a respectable distance. "Tala an' Ikuna's friend. I know you've probably talked to them more than me," a fact that he hopes does not hinder this whole mission of his. But despite the mission at hand and the seriousness of it all, there's genuine relief that's felt and shown on his face. "You don't know how good it is to see you, Niyt. You're well? An' your pack?"
There's recognition on Niyt's face at the name, and the smile broadens. She may not know Ahiga well, but she does know him. He's the one Tala was so madly in love with! "And how is Tala? Are the two of you together now?" she asks, because she is in the end her mother's daughter and that's an important thing to ask. The other questions should, she supposes, also get answered. "I'm well, yes. Cerulean is... ah, we have our clouds and our sunshine, but the wind keeps on blowing."
Is he...what? The mentioning of Tala catches him off guard. Well obviously, Niyt /does/ remember them well! He stutters out a few babblish words before catching his tongue and quieting himself, feeling his face grow warm beneath his fur. Geeze. If he could just stop /sounding/ so stupid he might actually stand a chance at passing off as composed. With her, it doesn't matter if he looks like a fool! "Uh, yes," he says, finally getting control of language again. Now, on with the mission! Much easier to talk about than his love life. If things had been in any way, shape, or form the same here as it was in Ute, Niyt's description wouldn't sound so placid. "I'm sorry that I've come unannounced on your lands, Niyt, an' I hope your alpha and beta accept my apology too, but we Ute could use the help of our friends."
Niyt smiles fondly as Ahiga admits to the romance. Ah, young love! So sweet. The apology sounds like a standard bit of formality, and she simply nods to it, but that last bit... help, is it? Not just a visit, not just a trip to talk with those friends, but... help. There's a brief, considering frown. As times for him to come... well, it's perhaps not the best. Some of those 'clouds' on Cerulean are an alpha that's halfway lost his mind, and a beta that's been busy trying to deal with him. After a few moments, she shakes her head. "Don't worry about the intrusion, be welcome. We'll find Coinin for you to speak with, but... what's happened? What does Ute need?"
What a loaded question. What do they need? Ahiga opens his mouth, then closes it slowly, ears falling back. What they need requires explanation, and thus, he does. "We've lost our home," he begins, voice soft, yet grim. It's a tale that's difficult to retell, the wounds of loss still fresh and hatred never quite diffusing. "Dogs. Dogs took our land from us. They came like... like a storm in summer. Quiet one moment, loud the next. There were so many've them, we couldn't handle them all. Two other wolves came to help, Grim an' Brutal, but even with them we lost. We lost... a lot." The edges of his muzzle downturn as a hard look is given to the ground. "Half our pack is scattered. Our Alpha's mate can't be found. We came here to look for refuge an' to warn you like we were warned before. But we didn' listen, an' we've paid for it."
Niyt listens to Ahiga's tale, with an expression of growing concern. She steps closer, bridging the polite space Ahiga left and following his voice to nose for his ears as if he were only a pup. An unthinking sort of gesture, that. "Clouds to blot out the sun," she murmurs with a frown. "Where are the rest of you? Someplace safe? Are you being followed?" She shakes her head. "It may be a while before you can get a proper audience. Tariro's... well. You'll want to speak to Coinin." And what of them here, with Tariro and his one pup, Rayen nearly ready to give birth, and the rest of them scattered loosely through the lands? Cerulean is in no shape to respond to a danger, even now that they're warned.
With his eyes set down and clouded with unwanted memories, Ahiga hardly notices Niyt's closeness until she's upon him. Golden eyes flit to her blind ones before they're out of view as she nuzzles his ears. He tenses slightly, not because the feeling is unwelcomed, but moreso because it is unexpected. But the tensing is a brief thing, and he exhales slowly. "We found a cavern behind a waterfall. We came carefully, an' weren't followed. Ikuna an' I have been makin' sure we don't scent any dogs. There was one.." he recalls, his expression hardening a tad. "A female, but we ran her off." His jaw tightens a little, pausing there, remembering words he'd nearly forgotten at one time, but the attack of dogs brought them back in full force. The warnings of a cat. "Coinin?" he blinks, though nods in reply.
A cavern, behind a waterfall. Niyt starts to consider on that, but her consideration is interrupted by a further detail. Female dog? "Jatya?" she asks, her tone surprised. Not at the dog's presence there - Anoki told her as much - but - Well, apparently it's say names in shocked tones time.
Tala remembered the dog's name. Ahiga didn't. But as he hears it again, there's no denying that was the dog. The female with the curled tail. "Yeah. Jatya. Tala remembered her more'n I did, but her kind was part of the warning that we were given. I didn't htink anything of it then, but maybe I should've. Maybe we wouldnt be where we are now if we'd've..." he trails off with a wrinkle of his nose, shaking his head. The 'maybes' could go on forever, but nothing changes the present. "We were told that dogs would come. Dogs that hunted wolves. That they would send their females ahead to fool the males to trust'm. Fall in love with them. Follow their heat an' lure them back. Whatever. We thought've your pack, an' Anoki, an' that friggin' dog that was here when I came to find Tala, but we couldn't get back to you because winter came. Then the dogs came." A scowl, followed by a hint of a growl that subsides quickly. "We saw her, still here. We hadn't find a Cerulean wolf, yet here's this...dog. We thought the same had happened to you. That what the cat said happened before we could warn ya. So we chased her. I don't know where she is, but she's a fool if she goes back to the falls."
The frown continues, and deepens. Niyt steps back, her head tilted as though to get a better sense of what she hears by having her ears properly placed for it. It doesn't seem to help. "Jatya has been here all winter. She and Anoki have been spending time together. She's a quiet girl. Nice." Insofar as any of the wolves of Cerulean, beside Anoki, see her. "We've seen no other dogs here. Not a one." Her head shakes, underscoring that point. "No cats, either - so maybe you're believing the wrong person." Another moment's frown. "Which way did she go?" Anoki will certainly want to know that... especially with his best friend now terrified of their usual meeting spot.
Spending time.. with a dog? Ew. Distaste writes itself upon Ahiga's face at that bit of information, and his eyes narrow marginally. Quiet and nice? Two words he wouldn't use describe any of that species, though it seems as if such thoughts aren't shared by all. Cerulean have sided with dogs. Or at least.. a dog. Problematic? Difficult to tell, though the troubled look on his face does not disappear. "If you were see what I saw happen to my pack, an' to feel an' see what's still happenin' to us now, there'd be no doubt what or who to believe. I wish you could know, but I'm sort've glad you don't." He takes a step back, brows furrowed. "I don't know where she went," he answers with another backwards step, an ear turning in the direction in which he left Althaea. "If Coinin is the one I should talk to, I'll find him. You know where my pack is. If you need to speak to my Alpha, he's there."
Niyt shakes her head slowly. She's seen many a thing, blind eyes and all; wolf or dog, there's more to someone than their shape. Each spirit goes through many cycles. "I'll tell Coinin, if I see him," says Niyt - but as her own steps turn away, they're not headed to find Cerulean's beta, but for her own younger brother. She'll tell Coinin if she finds him, of course, but first... Anoki will want to hear of this; of his Ute friends, and of what they've done with his love. An already complicated spring just got far worse.
Ahiga nods as he turns, heading back to Althaea's spot, looking just as troubled as he did upon his arrival, if not a tad bit moreso.
