Haiza and Olathe, female wolf pups
Niyt, female wolf
---Two-River Fork---
It's a bright new world! Seen through new eyes and with occasionally odd ways of interpreting things but Haiza is new at this. She's barely just getting the moving around without always crawling on her belly thing down and already she's made a break for freedom. From the entrance to the den it all looks really weird though, compared to the dark little underground world she was getting used to seeing. She's being watched, parents wouldn't leave the pups all alone but right now she sits by herself in the den entrance, squinting at the world and trying to decide what to make of it.
The world is a strange and wonderful place, isn't it? At least, when you're a puppy. Niyt remembers when she was young - well, not /that/ young, but young! - and she could see all sorts of things. Unlike most pups, of course, her vision went away again, but... ah, well. So it goes! Today, she's serving the role of object-in-motion for little Haiza watching from the den as she lopes along to visit her uncle and his family. "Ah, hello!" she calls out, smiling. (and how could she not smile?)
So many things to look at! So much moving stuff! Like that bit of fluff! Oh and a leaf...Haiza has no idea what a leaf is of course, at the moment it's called 'Ooooo' and it is to be chased! If she could only get her paws to move in the right way flopping over after the first step. Her first prey escapes on the breeze but there's no time to dwell on this failure as there's a big something moving her way! And it makes noises! It's kind of like mum and dad but not mum and dad...She dubs it not-mum-and-dad and is entirely unsure what to make of Niyt. First wolf she's seen aside from her parents but her parents are nice so clearly that makes this one nice. Logical conclusion met she perks up suddenly and gives a squeaky yip back. She can make noises too!
This not-mum-and-dad moves kind of different than either of them, too. The way she steps down is more testing, and her head, well, it swings about but doesn't quite point straight to Haiza. Niyt laughs at the little yip, and lowers her forward half to bring herself closer to the little puppy. "Oh, there you are!" she says. This, right here, is a /conversation/! A back and forth of dialog.
The differences are a little lost on Haiza, everything is so different, she doesn't know what anything is, her attention to detail is a little lost in the sheer amount of stuff there is to pay attention to. Conversation she doesn't really get yet either, certainly she has a very limited vocabulary of little barks and squeaks but with Niyt so close she doesn't think to use it. Instead she stumbles/wobbles towards the nose that has now lowered to her level and flops her paws on it. Ha! Her second ever prey is caught.
Well, conversation will come later. Probably with the incessant whys, or maybe the just a little further!s For now... Niyt's nose! It is caught! By a puppy, no less. She giggles, and then launches a surprise counterattack, by opening her muzzle just a little, while keeping her nose still, and licking at the puppy's belly! Liiiick!
Haiza squeals as she's taken by surprise, jumps and loses her balance all in the same second, flopping over sideways as she springs from Niyt's nose. What on earth was that?! She doesn't bother getting back up right away but starts yapping at Niyt because clearly it has to be her fault!
Acrobaticpuppy! Sorta. Niyt giggles... oh, and then it turns to an outright laugh as she creeps closer to the scolding Haiza. "Yes, yes. Unfair, I know," she tells the pup, then leans in to demonstrate once more the power of belly-lick!
Haiza recognises the tongue this time, her parents had been attacking her with those things too! She yips in dismay and twists and wiggles until she finds her feet again. By which time she's getting licked anyway! A protest whine and then she strikes back, contradicting her own attack by trying to push Niyt's muzzle away with a paw while at the same time she moves towards the tongue, mostly snapping on air as she tries to get it for gnawing on.
Yeep! Tongues are not for gnawing on! Haiza actually has rather an advantage with the blind wolf as compared to her parents, on account of Niyt can't see those snapping little jaws! And snap they do, even managing to get a sidewise bite or three before the adult wolf can pull her tongue away. Now she's gonna be talking funny, and it's all Haiza's fault! Eyes barely open, and she's causing trouble already. Niyt smiles again, though - for how could she be grumpy at a puppy? - and flops her head over to the side as that paw shoves her.
Success! Haiza's going to remember that trick and probably get told off for it in the future. The tongue retreats but victory is short lived for when Niyt's head flops Haiza loses some of the thing supporting her weight. Her balance is a very fragile thing still and she yelps in surprise as she flops straight down onto her front. A little disapproving wuff and she bats a paw at Niyt's muzzle to tell her off for moving.
There is another puppy that is awake it seems! Litle Olathe is poking her way out from where she is, a faint snuffle escaping her in the process while she toodles along to rests at the front of the den. She sniffs out once more before a slight yip escapes her. As if saying HI!!
Adults are /so/ unreasonable. Seriously! They're always after puppies to do things like sleep, or not bite their sisters, or get baths... Parents are the worst, though. Cousins can just spoil the pups and make things harder for mum and dad... like by teaching them effective means to avoid baths! Oops. Niyt laughs at Haiza's bat, and reaches out her big, big paw to lightly thump the ground behind the puppy before tilting her head to another little yippy voice. "Why, hello to you too!"
Haiza blinks at the big paw. Paws go thump? She wiggles back up onto hers and tries it too!...It doesn't really work, there's no sound to it at all. She tries again! Then gets distracted. That puppies have an attention span is purely wishful thinking. Her little ears perk and she looks round to spot Olathe! It's a play thing she recognises! A yip back and she stumbles back towards the den, little tail wagging. She doesn't get the concept of sister yet but play mate she understands.
Olathe shifts forward a few steps more and soon sliding down the bit of hill from the den's entrance. Oh sure its just a step for some adults but she is just a pup! Another little yip and then a yap escapes her in the process while she wiggles about and winds up on her back peering towards her sister and cousin.
Big paw goes thump again! You see, Haiza - oh, no. You don't see. You see a sister! Niyt laughs, wiggling her way closer to the two youngsters and listening to them yip and yap and tumble.
Haiza has her sights set on her latest target! Even Olathe wiggling over doesn't stop Haiza from deciding to pounce her sister! Though without much limb strength or experience it less pounce on and more flop upon but then there will be gnawing.
Olathe licks across her maw an is just about to get herself back onto her paws, and is nearly there.. An then *thud* a sharp yelping yip escapes her as she is attacked savagly! She is going to DIE!.. Sniffsniff.. Oh, its just that one tha sleeps with them in the den. She wiggles about batting and bapping out with forepaws towards her sister.
Niyt laughs, hearing the puppies FIERCELY BRAWL! Or... well, something like that. She wriggles herself closer, and reaches in a big paw to... she doesn't even know. Nudge at them? Vaguely? Oh, it's such wild chaos, it is!
Haiza is in the middle of her attack when she spots the giant looming paw! She still returns a few bats at her sister but the moment she's set on one target she always seems to find another. Now it's the paw and half tumbling away from Olathe she wobbles for the new foe! Trying to repeat the good old flop and gnaw trick on it.
Olathe wiggles and shifts but finds herself unable to move thanks big but sister on her shoulders! RUFF!! escapes her which is more like a small ruff, but it sounded bigger in her head! She blinks and peers around, a faint sniff heard as she looks around for her sister and looks towards the HUGE paw and she squeaks!
The paw! The paaaaaaw! It's coming! Defend yourselves! Niyt nudges down at the puppies, patting at them with uncertain motions. She has no idea what she's doing, really! She can't see! She just brings THE PAW!
All hail The Paw! Clearly Haiza's idea of hailing is trying to eat it. She gnaws upon it while she tries to climb up on top. She has no plan to deal with this random invasion but it's not like that will stop her.
Olathe squeals as the HUGE evil paw gets her.. NOOOOO.. and then she wiggles about trying to grasp hold of the paw with her forepaws. She tries to wrap her forepaws around Niyt's and wiggles about, a grrrrrrr escapes her in the process. She is fierce!
Niyt's paw is dragged down by the mighty weight of... a Haiza! How fierce! She laughs, letting it sink as the pup climbs on top of it, only to find it also tugged down by Olathe, also fierce. Her paw is now the meat in a puppy-bread sammich! She wobbles it side to side, ruffling both puppies /at the same time/.
Olathe attempt to gum the paw that she has hold of. Almight gumming starts NOW!! CHOMPCHOMP drool, slurp.. Ah how cute! She wiggles about and is able to slowly get onto her hindpaws as an odd angle.
Haiza squeaks as the paw starts moving around under her and she nearly falls off all over again. By lying on it she stays on just about, her behind occasionally falls off but the majority of her stays on to start yapping at the paw as if that'd make it stop.
The paw is relentless! Okay, yes, admittedly, an outside observer would probably note that it's wiggling very slowly and carefully, and not really doing much /beyond/ wiggling, even as Olathe does her best to chomp it to bits and Haiza gives it the mightiest of mighty lectures. Details! It's still The Paw! An adversary that many (okay, two) pups have faced before! One that presents a challenge even to the most skilled and sisterly team of adventurous youth!
Olathe is soon not able to hold onto the paws and flops backwards to peer up at the evil paw. Oh she'll get you yet! With a wiggle of her form she shifts up onto her paws and pawpawpaws out towards Niyt. See this will totally work!
It's not working! How can Haiza's tactics not work! A few more yaps at the paw and then she start yapping at the den instead. There's an evil foe out here and their parents aren't helping them defeat it! Probably lounging around watching. Lazy adults! Haiza wuffs at the paw and tries to thump her paw down again, this time on Niyt's paw. She's so light Niyt might not even notice.
Haiza's parents, or at least one of them, is probably thinking that Niyt is getting precisely what she deserves in being mauled by a pair of puppies. She brought this on herself, O Ye Many Years Ago! The wolf laughs, as Olathe comes up to paw at her more intently, and Haiza joins in with the battings and pattings. The Paw wobbles once more, and then... THUMP! Down to the ground it goes, and lays still. Ded!
Olathe shifts on her paws and eyes the dead paw.. She slowly inches owards it and snifsniffs at it a few times. She lifts her forepaw to poke and bat out at it a few times. WRUFF! I KELLL you!
Haiza yelps when the paw thumps seeing as she's still on top of it. It can still thump better than her! She thumps her paw on it again. Nothing's ever died around her yet so when it stops she just bats her paw out at it again and then sits on it. It clearly gave in. Victory is hers! Oh and maybe her sister's too. Happy yap!
Yep. Paw's dead now. Doesn't move. Not even a little! Never mind it's still attached to a Niyt, and she's doing perfectly fine. Even giggling. The Paw has been defeated by these fine examples of puphood.
Olathe grins and wiggles about before moving to pounce upon the 'dead' paw. MINE.. is what she would clealry be saying if she could! She eyes her sister and bats out at her with a forepaw.
Dead paws are boring! Haiza whines but then Olathe bats at her! Distracted again she stands back up and starts batting back at Olathe. She won't give up her spot on the paw without a fight.
Dead paws are boring, yes. But! Dead paws provide a fine place for sisterly competition. Now it's paws. Soon, perhaps it'll be... mice! Then rabbits. Someday, maybe they'll even be fighting over boys! ...er. Not dead ones, or at least Niyt certainly hopes not, but nonetheless. She smiles, lying there and letting the siblings squabble and play.
Olathe grrs out at her sister, both of her paws are used to bat and poke out at Haiza while she tryes to keep herself sitting on Niyt's paw.
Haiza inches closer between bats before going to try and flop on Olathe again, trying to knock her sister off the paw, or possibly catch her. Haiza's not really thinking that far ahead.
The Queens of the Mountain! Er, Paw. Paws are like mountains, only... well, yes. Niyt smiles as the girls play and squabble. "Go on, you can take her!" Which her? She's not saying!
Olathe eyes widen as she feels herself getting pushed backwrds off the paw. HEY.. this is her mountain! She swallows and wiggles working on nipping at Haiza a few times before trying to wrap her forepaws around her dear sister's neck.
Haiza would disagree, it's her mountain! It even speaks! Or the bit of it with the nose does anyway. Haiza goes Raarrrg! It sounds like a squeak though and just as she's about to try and gum her sister to death she slips off the side of the paw and falls off with a yip!
Niyt smiles as the puppies tumble and fall, and starts to not only talk but sing! A little song with a jaunty tune... maybe it's an old one, maybe it's something the wind told her, maybe she's just making it up on the spot. Who knows?
~One for you, and one for me
One and one and one make three,
Fall down and leap up again -
Little puppy, tell me when.~
Olathe is indeed gummed upon and drooled upon for that matter, she wiggles and shifts before her eyes widen as she feels herself getting pulls off to the paw in the process. A faint snuffle escapes her and she CHOMPS down against Hazia, which is more lime gumming someone to death then anything. Her ears slowly perk and she titls her head peering one way then another before her gaze settles on Niyt and she slips quiet for a moment.
Haiza ends up on her back in a tangle of paws with Olathe but her retaliation is distracted by the singing. Her ears perk too and she stops to stare at Niyt. Ooo, this is new and different.
Silence! The puppies are actually quiet! With an audience that appreciative, how can Niyt do otherwise but to keep going?
~Two and one and one make four,
Five is only one pup more,
The rain falls down from the sky,
Little puppy, don't you cry.~
Olathe keeps herself pressed against her sister for a bit longer before moving to rest upon her haunches. Her blue gaze settled upon Niyt while she listens closely. So purdy.. or is it just different?
Haiza disentangles from her sister as well and continues to stare, her nose giving the odd twitch. It's pretty. She doesn't know what it means but it's pretty. After a moment she quietly starts to sneak towards Niyt to investigate.
Everything's different, when you're a little puppy. These two may be too young to understand the words yet, but there's no such thing as too young to understand what music is... pretty! Niyt smiles in between the verses of the counting-song.
~Two and two and two make six,
Seven's one more in the mix,
Rivers run down to the sea,
Little puppy, play with me.~
Olathe has no idea the words, other then it keeps her attention off her sister for a few moments at least. A soft snuffle escapes her while she peers over at Haiza as her sister moves towards Niyt once more.
Haiza is a little cautious, for once it's not something she wants to pounce on since that would probably make the pretty sound stop but she wants to know what the not-mum-and-dad is doing. She stops just in front of Niyt and sniffs again, her head tilting in confusion.
Niyt tilts her head down, her white-fogged eyes facing to Haiza's puppy-blue ones as she sings.
~Two and two and four make eight,
Just one more, and nine's the fate,
From the oceans, the wind blows,
Little puppy, touch your nose.~
Olathe shifts up to her paws an slowly toodles forward after her sister and closer towards the singing wolf. Once close enough she blinks and peers at Niyt's face, her tail wagging a few times an she soon leans forward to place a lick against her dear cousin's cheek!
Haiza inches slowly closer and sniff at Niyt's muzzle, finally she's paying enough attention to the scent that she starts thinking of comfy things to sleep on, Niyt of course having been one of them. Slowly she tucks herself in against Niyt's neck fluff and curls up there, her ears still perked.
Aww, puppy-kisses! Somehow, Niyt doesn't seem to mind baths like that. Maybe it's because puppy-tongues are so tiny. Or because puppies are so adorable when they do things like that, or like curling up against her. Awww.
~Two and three and five is ten,
Four and six are there again,
See the clouds, so high above,
Little puppy, you I love.~
Olathe seems to smile, a soft wruff escapes her and she hops forward to rests at the other side of Niyt. She snuggles against her fur and curls up, her head pressing against he older she-wolf's. An' this cuteness!
Calm has been restored after the puppy craziness and it appears Niyt has become a pillow again. Haiza's looking dozy now she's stopped attacking everything long enough to notice she's tired. She lets out a little squeaky yawn and rests against Niyt and though she closes her eyes she keeps her ears perked to the song.
The song has come to an end, it seems, for there's no more words - Niyt just hums the tune another time, in a soft, half-voiced howl. Just a tune, and a soft, warm cousin to press against for pups tired from vigorous play. She smiles, as the humming ends, and lowers her head carefully to rest with the little puppies.
Olathe closes her eyes and cuddles into the warmth of Niyt's fur. A soft murmur escaping her an the pup starts to doze off. Yes this one seems to have tired out after playing so much, and she found s comfy spot to sleep so it works out well.
