Thickening Forest
================================================================================
Moving away from, the stream the stand of trees begins to thicken and the low shrubs while other types of vegetation begin to thin out between the larger trees. The light begins to dim if you move deeper into the forest. Leaves rustle and creatures scurry, hiding here and there within the foliage, enough to cover and likely conceal, depending on size. The forest seems to thicken the closer you head to the center of the woods, though the trees extend in almost every direction.
Felstride, Wolf
Storm, Wolf
Even though the spring is bringing the warm breezes, Felstride's heart does not feel that warmth. It's becoming harder and harder for him to walk, and the recent threat from seemingly rogue cougars has weighed him down even further. Knowing he would have to deal with these problems, he took a long and painful walk upriver, eventually settling himself among a dense group of pine trees, alone, to think. His eyes are less alluring than they used to be and are showing just how tired he is as he looks off across the rolling water. The wolf's side aches, and now that he's settled himself on his haunches he loathes the idea of having to get up and move again. Felstride.. seems a little grizzled, even afraid sometimes, not knowing what is to come. He sighs deeply, breath a little raspy, and his eyes seem to glaze over, remembering things from long ago.
With the pack on high alert about the cougars Storm has taken up patrolling the edges of the land more, she isn't about to have some cougar just come wandering in and not know about it that's for sure. Upon the patrol is when she caught Fel's scent and has followed after him. While she is aging herself she still has a good amount of spunk left in her step, but then she is somewhat younger then dear Fel is after all. With the warmth of spring returning her joints and old wounds have stopped aching as much, save at night when it can still get somewhat cool, but she doesn't complain. It doesn't take long for her to catches sight of the other, she pauses a moment watching him and her ears lower slightly. Fear and worry cross her face for a moment before she shakes it away and continues forward to his side. A soft murr escaping her once near him. "So, this is where your hiding now hum?" She questions softly while nosing at his neck.
It actually takes him quite a long time to notice that anyone is nearby, so caught up in things long since past. It's only when Storm's voice echo's across his consciousness and he feels her warmth against his neck that he blinks out of his waking dream, and almost melts back into the nuzzle, leaning maybe a little heavier than he might usually. The wolf issues that quiet, rich burr from deep inhis chest, a warm and soothing sound, and after a moment he begins to groom the shorter fur along Storm's neck. He is content with that for a long, long time, until finally he lifts his eyes to meet hers, and smiles. He is hiding, isn't he? Felstride nods very gently, shifting his hindend to rest a little more comfortably on the ground, and taps his tail a few times against the ground. He's very, very quite, and after a while he leans into Storm again, "I love you."
Storm ears perk forward slightly as she watches him seem to awake from a dream, it bothers her to say the least. She lets him lean against her all he wants, her forepaws pressing against the damp ground more to make sure they both don't go tumbling downwards because ot if though. A happy murr escapes her while she tilts her head to lean into the grooming some. As he stops she lets her gaze rest upon his, watching his eyes a few moments. She soon settles to her haunches at his side so when he leans against her she won't have any trouble keeping him up. Her ears twitch forward as she hears him speak and she offers a warm smile. "I love you too." She offers softly while giving his cheek a few soft licks and rubs her cheek to his. Just hearing him and watching him now makes her worry more, she knows very well that everyone's time must come and it is slowly starting to sink in that she won't have Felstride around at some point. It is a sad thought, one she never thought about until this moment. "How are you feeling?"
His maw curls up, his cheeks bunching in a genuine smile. To some extent, Felstride figured that he might just.. fade off one day, maybe start walking down river and not come back up. Who knows. He still has things to do here, however, and the looming cougar threat is foremost on his mind. The dark wolf, fur graying around the edges now, 'mmms' quietly at his mate first, before replying, "Well," to her question of his health. He's lying, of course, but he's not about to worry her even more with the reality of it all. "I am worried, though, about these cougars roaming the forest. I have sent Cyrus, Helios, and Echo out on short patrols, but it worries me greatly to put them in such danger." To him, they're still pups. He shakes his head, and chuffs that thought away, "But, how are you? I admit.. I have not had much time for you, and I would like to remedy that." Innocenteyes.
Storm mms faintly at the well comment, he can lie all he wants but she knows better then that. She's had two litters of pups and they have all tried to lie to her at some point. Not that she points this out to him mind you. A ear perks and she nods while her gaze drifts towards the water. "Helios was talking about that when I saw him. He was excited even though I told him to not let it go to his head." Between Helios and Cyrus she swear Helios acts more like Fel. "They will be fine, I've made sure they go in pairs and they have worked it out so they all do the same amount." A ear perks and she turns her gaze back to you watching you before smiling. "I'm fine, glad that spring is finally here." Even if there was no new pups for the pack, they have plenty to deal with now with the cougars so perhaps its best that no pups was around actually. "Oh you would?" She chuckles softly and noses at your muzzle. "Well, I'm yours so remedy away."
Felstride tilts an ear in Storm's direction, the other scanning the surrounding trees, anxious. He nods a few times, knowing deep down that the sons of the pack will be fine, but he can't help but worry. Cyrus and Helios are, after all, the only two boys he's fathered; /someone/ is going to have to continue his bloodline. The longer he thinks about these cougars, the heavy his shoulders feel. He will not, however, give in to mere thoughts. The wolf lifts his head and squares himself a bit, full attention falling on Storm, serious, until her last words. Unable to help himself, he laughs warmly and leans forward, nuzzling her thick neck ruff, at times gnawing like a puppy at her ears. A playful, devious little growl even escapes his maw, like it did when they were seasons younger. It's a little comical, actually, to watch such an old fart play again.
Storm lowers her head and rubs softly against the underside of his chest with the top of her muzzle. "Fel.. It'll be alright." She says softly. "Try and relax some." They have been with other long enough that she knows when something bothers him. Her ears perk forward at the laugh and she grins slightly. "That's better." She lowers her head and chuckles at the gnawing while trying to keep her ears free, not that she tries very hard. A soft playful growl escaping her while she softly at his chest a few times.
A low whine issues from his muzzle, but it is not filled with pain, it is purely play. The wolf manages to laugh through that, and continues to go after Storm's ears, and since she's not trying very hard he gets in a few good nomnomnoms before relenting. He picks up a forepaw and baps Storm's chest fluff, nipping playfully with the front of his teeth, nose wrinkling in the process. He enjoys himself for a little while, content in the pup-like play, before he eases back just a little bit and rests his forehead against Storm's shoulder. To be honest, he hadn't though much about what he'd be leaving behind when time finally caught up with him, but that realization is slowly dawning on him now. Felstride shakes his head slightly, not wanting to think so much on it, and lifts his head to swipe across Storm's cheek with his tongue. SLUURP.
Storm wruffs out a few times as her ears are chewed on, though it if really bothered her she would have moved her head by now, after all the sharp puppy teeth chewing on them it really doesn't bother her. She gives her head a shake once he stops trying to drool them off and grins. Her tail sways about while her own forepaw is lifted and paws out at him, her head lowering to nip and nibble across his forleg. It would be a sight for sure to catch these two playing at the moment, perhaps amusing to some in fact. As he stops so does she, her ears perking forward while she turns her head to press her cheek to his head, a soft murr escaping her. She's rather happy at the moment, an its never taken much to actually please Storm. After a few moments pass she lowers her head and peers at him just in time to just slurped across her cheek. She blinks and smirks. "Little brat.." Is said with a playful tone and she nips out at his muzzle a few times.
"I know," Felstride churrls back at her, tongue lolling from one side of his mouth in that silent, wolfish laughter. He hasn't done that in ages, and it makes him feel almost his son's ages.. and part of him finds that funny. The nips are met with ones of his own, and it's a surprise that they don't bite each other's noses off in the process. Felstride even laughs quietly, though soft and hard to hear it's still a rich and vibrant noise. He gently bumps the crown of his head against her chest and chuffs once, managing to stand on all ours without crying out in pain. Damnwarwound. The wolf slows his play a bit, nuzzling his cheek against hers and whispers into her ear, "I do love you," as if.. you know.. she forgot.
Storm shifts slightly and nips at the side of her maw to keep from nipping off noses of course. She grins as she listens to him, any laugh from him she'll take as it makes her forget about having to deal with anything, at least for a few moments. Her head lifts slightly at the headbump, and a deep murr escapes her while she shifts back onto her paws once his standing, as if to make sure if he was to have problem staying up she would be there to catch him, somehow. With stiff joints it takes her a moment to actually get fully straightened out, which she helps along by stretching as she leans into the nuzzle. She murrs out happily and smiles. "Love you more." Is offered after a moment before she presses her shoulder against his slightly, her cheek rubbing across his.
Who knows how love they'll stay like that, heads bowed, brushing cheek against cheek, nose to shoulder, all the while issuing quiet and content sounds. Felstride softly churrs, his purr q[equivalent, and chuckles quietly at his mate. "Love you /most/," his says, puppishly, emphasizing his point with an extra nuzzle underneath his chin at the base of her jaw, a favorite spot. Rwar. His sways his long tail, making a quiet swishing noise behind him that echos the light breeze, and he flicks his ears at the sounds of the river tumbling nearby. Felstride takes a deep breath, cementing Storm's scent in his mind, afraid he'll forget, before he rests his nose against her. Tawr.
Storm murmurs happily as she leans against you more for a few moments before settling against her paws not wanting you to get unstable any as she knows his in pain even if he won't tell her. "Ya ya.. So you say." She says with a soft playful tone as she leans into the nuzzle across her chin and jaw. For a long moment she slips quiet, her eyes closed as she just enjoys the feel of him touching her, worried that she might forget it at some point. She snuffles slightly and smiles while bumping her nose softly back against yours, amber eyes resting upon yours.
"I do," Felstride offers with a final nod, as if cementing that he does in fact love her that much more. In truth, he knows that they're both equally as in love, and equally as gooshy about it. Still, with all that has gone on recently, it's nice to escape back to what they once had. He never really thought about how much older he was, but now that it's caught up with him, his age seems to bring him down and he bears the weight silently, and alone. The wolf chuffs warmly, offering a final nuzzle and gives the top, whiter part of her muzzle a soft lick. Mwah! Tail wagging, Felstride lifts his head and turns himself southwest, back toward the denser part of the forest and the densite. "Come," he asks quietly, bumping their shoulders together, stiffly beginning to walk that whole way back. His jaw tightens as he determines not to cry out, but his right hindleg limp is pronounced... Despite this, he will not cry out.
Storm might not be near as old as he but his still catching up with her, stiff joints and one achy shoulder that left her during the colder days in the den as the shoulder refused to allow movement, not that she would ever complain mind you. "I know." Is said softly before she licks slowly across his cheek and maw while her ears perk forward at the nuzzle. A smile graces her maw and she murrs at the lick, it would be nice to be young again and do things of old. She is still for a moment as she watches him, pain seen upon his form and also in her eyes before she moves forward at his side encase he wants help. He didn't even have to ask her to come, if she could she would follow him anywhere.
