Storyteller's Butte
================================================================================
Out of nowhere among the flatlands, a tall, thin rock formation juts out of the desert terrain, its nearly-vertical sides too steep for most creatures to be able to climb. The ruddy color of sunset, the butte is the source of many fables and legends among the inhabitants of the area, and not just because of its uniqueness as a landmark in the midst of the lowlands. Along the bottom of the butte, a few feet up, a myriad of carvings decorate the red stone. Though slightly faded by wind and erosion, one can still make out petroglyphs of several types of animals and other symbols encircling the rock. Some suggest man is responsible, others suggest a divine power, but the mystery of their origins remains nonetheless.
Storm is making her way towards the Butte at a slow pace, no reason to get in a hurry when she doesn't have any place to get to. She sniffs at a few rocks and bushes as she moves along. Once at the rocks she hops up from one to another before making her way to the top and settles down upon it with a yawn escaping her.
Midnight is stretches out upon his side. Mainly just trying to keep warm, he is very aware of what's around him. Noticing her causes him to roll to his stomach. "Greetings." he calls to her as she settles.
Storm ears perk and she looks over to the voice, a smile offered while she nods. "Hello Midnight.. How are you doing?"
Midnight smiles, "Better now." Sitting up he tilts his head, "How you doing? Been out and about today?"
Storm ahs softly and hehs a moment. "Yes.. Sorta hard to just sit around an do nothing after being on the move all the time with the patrol an so forth."
Midnight pushes up shaking out his body, "I hear you. Might get old like me." he laughs lightly. "I tried chasing a hare and thought I broke all my muscles."
Storm ears twitch and she shifts up onto her paws, it takes her amoment with her shoulder but when she's up she makes her way on over towards him. "Well now why would you go and do a silly thing like that?"
"I was hungry?" he says tilting his head. Midnight grins a little, "I do have to eat you know. Fish doesn't always fill you up."
Storm chuckles and smiles while she noses out at his shoulder faintly before settling to her haunches. "Well I suppose that is true.."
Midnight noses between her ears lightly, "I just need to exercise more. Can't become the big fat one of the pack."
Storm smiles a moment as she chuckles. "Well I'm not going to do that either so.. Someone else gets to be the fat one."
Midnight chuckles, "I could never imagine you as the fat one. You always were able to eat stuff and never gain a ounce."
Storm tibbits faintly. "When I was younger sure.." She points out before glancing at herself and sighs a bit. "Losing it now though.."
Storm grins and shakes her head. "Oh.. You've always looked like this." She offers with a playful tone.
Midnight laughs, "Gee thanks!" he gives her a playful bump to the side.
Storm chuckles and grins a moment. "I try." She offers softly.
Midnight nips at one of her ears, "You haven't changed any though. Which is a good thing. You are the same Stormie I've always known."
Storm wruffles softly and tilts her head after the nip. "Well.. I suppose that's a good thing that I haven't changed all that much then huh?"
Midnight nods his head, "Of course." Looking around for a moment he sighs deeply. "You know what? Sometimes I do wish I did have pups of my own. As odd as that must sound coming from me." tail lightly thumping against the rock.
Storm ears perk while she watches him a few moments before she noses at his cheek. "I'm sorry about that.." She offers softly. "Never found the right girl?"
Midnight chuckles, "Nah.. What girl would be crazy enough to want me? Probably for the best you know..."
Storm smirks faintly and leans against him while she looks off over the land. "Your not that bad."
Midnight smirks, "Oh? Better than I once was I hope."
Storm nods. "Well that's what I ment of course."
Midnight gently nuzzles the back of her neck, "Well.. Who knows maybe some wolfess will wander in and fall for my charm." he smirks knowing that the one he truly longs for will never see him in that fashion.
Storm tail sways a few times. "I hope that happens for you.. Everyone deserves to have love in her life at some point."
Midnight nods his head, "Who knows." he looks off to nowhere in particular. "I may not have the love that is shared between mates. But here with friends I feel loved."
Storm lifts her head to watch Midnight a few moments, a faint smile is seen. "This is true.." Being around family is the one thing that is keeping the once alpha going at the moment. After a moment she drifts quiet, mind lost in thoughts while she listens to the night around them.
