- Eroded Well -
It is past midday, and Kein is at the well. With the gradually warming temperatures on the mountain, Kein has started visiting the well at least twice a day, often with one or more of his children in tow. Currently, though, he is alone, and after getting a drink, he backs up a few steps and stretches out.
At this time, a figure from the north was heading up to get her very own drink. The slightly limping form that has become a signature of her being would appear in the distance as she slowly headed towards the very same well, for a similar task. She has been back only a few days and so far, she has stayed near the cave her own little exploratory search had not made much of any headway. She had no clue where Ashen might be or if he was still okay. Scuddle has also not made the situation any better with pushing her to go out again and search for him. About the only thing she had left was the hope that Ashen was still safe somewhere. She had one final plan to find the youth, and that was to head to the lake and see if she could ask Ohanzee's spirit for guidance like she did the last time. As she continued forth she has yet to see the other cougar up near the well, her attention more to the ground in front of her thinking more then paying attention to what lies ahead.
Much unlike Jinx, Kein does not remain oblivious to a nearby cougar's presence.. As the pawsteps approach, Kein looks in their direction. Upon spotting Jinx, his tail flicks several times. He waits until Jinx is closer before speaking, suddenly, "How is my daughter, Jinx?" His tone lacks any hint of patience. Kaya told him that Jinx did not want the cub to accompany her outside of the territory, but he cannot help but see Jinx and Kasim as a corrupting influence on his eldest daughter, cannot help but be somewhat resentful about the fact that he has not seen his daughter in weeks because she would prefer to stay with Jinx, Kasim, and Scuddle.
Jinx quickly perks her ears as the voice hits them her head quickly moving up. Her facial expression was fairly neutral her having recently tried to hide all the grief she was feeling. Kaya? Oh yeah Kaya. "She is doing alright, I have been trying to get her to head back home but she keeps refusing." She comments with a little sigh. She was honestly getting a little frustrated with that situation herself. While Kaya was welcome to stay Jinx has been urging her to head back home. Her and Kasim were no substitutions for her real parents. She then continued her way towards the well now watching Kein. What really had happened between Kaya and her father to make her stay at there den for so long? She really didn't know she had received Kaya's thoughts on it, it all seemed to go back to that silly growling incident, one in which she dismissed some time ago but for others it seems to have evolved into a much worse issue for others.
Perhaps Kein really does judge Jinx too harshly. He may never know, since, after Kasim confronted him about the whole thing, he has been much more content to ignore Jinx, Kasim, and all of their lot than risk being angered by them. His tail flicks a couple more times, but his tone remains calm enough. "I have news about Ashen." Why does he have to be the one to tell them this? Throughout, he is anticipating being verbally attacked again, and that accounts for all of the stress that Kein is feeling, more than anything Jinx has done or said.
Jinx can see as suddenly her neutral looks start to crack away. "Y..you have news? Do you know where he is? I..is he alive?" Her voice suddenly does shift into a bit more nervous sound as she stops moving forward. Her eyes are now wide as all the worry she has for the kit comes out. The only attack he receives are the barrage of questions though. Her heart starts to race as she watches him, her mind racing at all the possibilities in which this news could be.
"He is alive. He is being cared for by a wolf named Skelaghe." How much does Kein actually know? Not much at all. Ashen ran away. He's being cared for by a wolf Kein once gave shelter. That's it. He watches Jinx warily, but he is not as tense as he was, for example, when Kasim last spoke to him.
Jinx nods as she receives this information. He's alive, to her that was one of the most important things to find out. "Do you know where this wolf rests?" Her voice has calmed a bit with the knowledge of her son's living status. But still she was anxious to see if he knew a bit more then what he has let on. For all of her cares, she was Ashen's mother, even if not through blood she had raised them and helped them to grow into what she considered fine cougars.
"I do not. And given... Other circumstances... I can't recommend going to find him. Not when he has no desire to be here." That is, generally, what running away means. "There are threats outside of Amaranth. Most recently, a cougar named Cheveyo... One of Chesmu's sons." Kein spits both of the names out with geniune venom in his tone, as the type he has never used when addressing any member of Amaranth about anything else before.
Jinx hasn't really have had much conversation with Kein, in fact nearly none at all. As he recommends not going on to look for him, a look of pain falls over her face. "I just can't leave him outside of Amaranth if I did, what kind of mother would I be?" Her tone going sad. "How can I trust this Skelaghe to be taking care of him? How am I suppose to figure out why he left? How am I to tell him that he is still loved." She says at that last point she stares towards the ground. "I don't believe he left for that whole growling issue. I had calmed him down after that, made him see he wasn't at fault even made him smile." She says with a sigh. "I cannot believe he just up and left because of something as silly as that whole situation." She couldn't just look at this whole issue shake her head and say oh well that is sad. After he describes this cougar out there and she hears the venom attributed with him she nods a little not really knowing very much on that situation since there are certain things her and Kasim avoid talking about and that being one. But she does take it into her thoughts, but for Ashen she was still willing to risk the trek.
Kein's tail flicks again as Jinx feels pressed to bring up the incident that, as far as Kein knows, led to Ashen's foolish disappearance. Ashen wasn't at fault? Well, sure, but Kein does blame Ashen, Kasim, Jinx, and even Kaya for all of the trouble they've caused since then. Had they just let him get his mate safe, he would have returned to Ashen to explain. Since they couldn't leave him be long enough for him to see to the safety and health of his mate, he cannot just ignore what trouble that cub caused. "I will not keep you here, but I will /not/ accept putting others of Amaranth at risk needlessly. That includes my daughter."
Jinx looks over the male as she nods. "I do not wish to risk any of Amaranth with anything I do." She says softly. "If I go I will search alone, if I go out to find him, your daughter will not be told, no one except Kasim will be told of me heading out. I will not make the same mistake I made last time." She says then looking towards the water. She really wished that whole issue had never happened. "My only wishes are to make sure my cubs are safe, and to leave this whole situation in the dust." She says as she then takes the rest of the steps up to the well. She really didn't instigate any of this but still, she does feel some fault does rest on her. "I am though, very sorry this whole situation blew up as it did." She says meekly as she suddenly feels compelled not to look into Keins face. She only wanted peace and the knowledge that everyone she cared about was safe, that is all she has ever wanted.
Kein is somewhat appeased by Jinx's statement that she will not tell Kaya she is leaving. Whatever troubles are between them, Kein still cares for the well-being of his firstborn. His tail comes to a rest behind him, and a small amount of the wariness leaves his expression. "Very well." He'll stand by his words. He won't stop Jinx from leaving, even if he doesn't think any attempt to get Ashen back here would be very successful... Or worth-while, with how little time remains before the male cubs of Ohanzee's litter will be expected to set out on their own. "Travel safely, Jinx."
Jinx softly looks up as he doesn't argue with her. It isn't really a point of bringing him home though that would be nice. It was simply the point of her wanting to see him. If she is destined to lose him she at least wants a chance to say goodbye. She then takes a few laps of water very much needing that refreshment as she offers him a faint smile as he wishes her safe travels. "You too Kein, Be safe, and also." She pauses for a moment or two. "If you or Nayeli wish to come by to try and talk Kaya in to coming back to your den you are more then welcome, I think a chat with her parents might be enough to do it." She says before she goes back to drinking letting him set off for whatever duties he has to do.
Kein hardly needs Jinx's welcome to visit anywhere in his territory. Since Kaya attacked him physically, though, he has been avoiding the girl, because if she did anything like that again, his reaction would likely not be as calm as it was last time. "I will let Nayeli know." As though Nayeli needs that permission any more than he does. Still, he is much calmer now than he was, as he turns to head northward, deeper into the territory.
