Aurora, female juvenile cougar
Peyote, male juvenile cougar
=== Stone Formations ===
The littlest princess of the Amaranth tribe has made her way out to the neat stones at the edge of her family's territory, knowing it's the usual hang-out spot for herself and Peyote, her closest friend...even if he still tackles her sometimes. Being away from the center of the bustle makes sure things are quiet and peaceful and a good atmosphere for playing and practicing hunting. The fawny-furred juvenile leaps nimbly up on top of one of the flat rocks, her faint spot remnants glittering highlights in the sun's warm light.
Peyote is there waiting for her, but only first reveals this when the girl jumps up onto one of the rocks. And he jumps out from behind another. "Hi Aurora!" He chirps happily, his childlike happy nature ever present even as he grows bigger. Hes matured somewhat though as at least instead of straight out pouncing her he just playfights with her sometimes. The boy smiles up at his friend and stands up on his hind paws holding up with his forepaws on her rock. "Come lookin for me?" He asks with a softhearted laugh.
Aurora's ears prick forward at the familiar sound of her friend's voice, the cougar girl's pale green eyes practically shine from both her happiness and the spring sunlight. She giggles, turning around to offer a sweetly affectionate nuzzle to the bigger cougar boy's cheek, purring softly. "Yeah, I hadn't seen you around in a while. You been with your family?" By which she means his adoptive mother and brothers, as she's familiar with her friend's cubhood history.
Peyote would hope she was privvy to the ancient history! To the nuzzling he returns one of his own along with a purr. "Yah theres been a few problems back at the den, but Im out again now." He shrugs it off and hops up on her rock with her now! "Whup! Heh, its good to see yah. What kind of trouble you gonna get us into this time?" He asks with a teasing grin to the smaller feline.
Aurora giggles merrily, circling energetically around the puma boy. "Um, I dunno! You're usually good at coming up with some ideas...but I bet we could think of something together!" she chirps, turning to face out over the valley so she can scan over what's beyond their homelands...from one of the coolest vantage points around.
Peyote watches her circle and puts a paw playfully on her forehead when she settles again. He pauses with her then and looks out over the scenery and smiles thoughtfully. "Well, I was thinking we are getting big enough to maybe take down a carribou. What do you say?" She would know him enough by now to tell he was kidding.. but then again it might be fun to try. Maybe hes serious!
Aurora lifts up onto her hind legs and bats at the other puma's paw with both of her own, trying to knock it off. She rolls her eyes at the suggestion with a little teenage-attitude 'huff', paddng over to the edge of the rock and considering once again. "I heard there's a waterfall north of our territory. You ever been to it?"
Peyote laughs as she fights back and pokes her lightly in the side after she knocks his paw away. "Hey dont knock my idea so quickly, can you just picture your dad's face when you drag one of those home?" He laughs and shakes his head lightly. "No, but Ive heard of it too. You wanna go check that out? Might be some good swimming." He hops down and looks around, all ready for an adventure.
"Psh, there's no way I could catch one of those things -- they're too big...or I'm too small!" Aurora answers, hopping down from the small ledge to land beside Peyote. "Yeah, let's go! Everyone who's seen it already says it's really neat." Being the Matron's daughter she ends up hearing a lot of the Sisters' gossip just by being around while the adults are talking. She falls into step alongside her companion, heading towards the northeast and the sound of rushing water.
=== Waterfall Ledge ===
Peyote snickers softly. She is probably the smallest cougress in the area. "Hey you said it not me, tiny." He chirps. He does tease her alot, but he never means any harm out of it. Its a kind of childish flirting, though Peyote is getting pretty good about not taking it too far. As he travels towards the rumored interest with his pretty little companion. "Bout time we found this place and took it over for ourselves, huh." The confident growing cub grins. "Did you hear if there was fish there?" Making conversation until the sounds of running water grows louder around them.
Aurora sticks her tongue out at the male at his teases, prancing along proudly beside him despite her undersized stature. "Naw, nobody said. There might be some in the river, though..." Following the trail of running water from the lake that borders the valley of wolves, the pair of cougars soon come within sight of the roaring waterfall, crashing to the ground far below. "Whoa," Aurora murmurs aloud, eyes wide as she takes in the incredible sight. "Awesome." She starts to pad up nearer for a closer look at the falls.
Peyote flits his tail about behind him as he thinks. "It would be good with some lunch." First carribou, now fish? Peyote sure has something on his mind. Food. That is until the sight before him becomes a little more dramatic. "Oh wow neat!" After a brief pause to take in the scenery he laughs and runs after his friend. "I guess this can be another one of our hang outs!" He says over the noise of the falling water. He turns off and makes for the water, dipping his head down to tap-tap his tongue to get a crisp clear drink, grinning as he notices a little fish swim quickly from under his nose.
Aurora has stopped for a drink of the natural running water, drained from the snowcap atop the mountain peak -- so it tastes way better than their stagnant pool of rainwater does. As she's settled right next to Peyote, naturally, her paw suddenly comes down in front of his nose, splashing the water as she instinctively slaps at the darting fish...or just maybe to get Peyote a little wet, too.
Peyote mmms and cant help but purr as he tastes it. Hes going to have a little trouble bringing his face back from this drink.. that is he would have if the drink didnt suddenly fly into his face! Snort snuffle.. "Hey!! Whyy you.." He growls dramatically but cant help but laugh and then shoots his paw into the water to splash her back! "Take that!" It didnt take but 2 minutes before they got right back to playing again after their walk!
Aurora giggles wildly and pulls back as she's splashed in retaliation, covering her face with a forepaw, the water droplets cool against her sun-warmed pelt. The littler juvenile is quick to redirect their attention before she ends up completely soaked in the cold river. "You wanna walk to the edge and see what all we can see? Maybe we'll see a bear!"
Peyote splashes her feet one more time just to see if she will react more playfully, but her distraction works and he steps away from the waters edge.. perhaps he doesnt want to get soaked either. "Puh, why would you want to see a bear? Deer is what Im after.. Together we are big enough! We could catch one." he starts towards the waterfalls edge with her, keeping between her and the quickly flowing river.
Aurora giggles at her confident companion. "You're not big enough to hunt deer yet," she points out. She may be small, but he's not quite as big as the adults just yet either! Picking up her pace a bit, she trots up to the edge of the cliff, carefully peeking out over the forest of trees below. Pale green predatory eyes search out the smallest signs of movement as the young cougaress surveys this strange new environment from an eagle's eye view.
Peyote just keeps smiling even as he hears that. "Yah I know.. well.. Im at least getting bigger." He defends his pride and gasps at the view. "Ive never been up so high before." He stays right by Aurora, still protectively by her side. "We make a pretty good team and.. and together I think we are as big as one grownup. Thats why i think we can do it. So... do ya see any?" He peers off into the distance, searching over the trees for life.
Aurora shyly smiles at the confidence-bolstering words from her companion -- he's her friend for a reason, after all. "Well, thanks," she giggles a little sheepishly at the young mountain lion. Aurora then turns to look out among the trees as he's doing. But her youthful attention span keeps getting distracted by every bird, bug, and rodent that darts past her line of vision...
Peyote purrs and gives his friends cheek a nuzzle. "I dont see any deer or bears. But hey at least we can still find some pretty cool places, huh." He wonders just what they will find next.
Aurora nodnods, turning from the scenic view beneath their paws back to Peyote. "Yeah. And even if we're not big enough to hunt caribou...maybe we could still try to catch some fish?" she suggests, tailtip flicking about eagerly behind her. Her tummy's starting to rumble, after all, and she could go for an afternoon snack. "Whoever gets one first wins!" she chirps happily, racing back to the water's edge to start scoping out her prey.
Peyote grins happily and nods in agreement. "Now your talkin, Aurora!" And he scrambles after her to find a spot further back on the river where the flow isn't as fast and the waters shallow enough to wade in.. because hes going to jump in and go for it!
