Skelaghe - Female Wolf
Crescendo - Female Adolescent Wolf
- Hilltop Vista -
Her pups are growing so quickly. Soon, they will not really be pups anymore. Since being weaned, they sleep for much longer periods, now. She is grateful for that, at least. They will be asleep for at least an hour, yet, while Skelaghe has had plenty of rest, for once. The female wolf is currently right outside of her den, looking in the direction of the slowly rising sun.
Crescendo woke with the sun this morning, a habit she's had for quite some time now. Having spent the last few months wandering around, the sienna wolf has explored the land one more than one plane. She seems lost in thought where she walks, but she knows this area belongs to someone and her senses are alert. Stopping now and lifting her head slightly, she sniffs in the air and catches that same scent she's found earlier, only stronger. She gazes across the fields, searching for someone else but herself. She sees another wolf ahead of her, and sits back to watch the other before making a decision of how, or indeed if, to approach.
Skelaghe's eyes are unfocused, even for a moment after some movement catches some bit of attention in the back of her mind. She should be more vigilant. Her mate has told her that time and time again. With her children growing older, though, she has slipped back into feeling largely peaceful. As such, since the movement she spotted does not continue to move closer, she allows herself to finish her thoughts before finally pulling herself away from the landscape in her mind to focus on the sitting female in the distance. Ah. She stands, looking in her direction. Her tail raises, but she does not appear particularly aggressive.
As her presence is noted, Crescendo dips her head just for a moment. As the other female doesn't seem too averse to her, she stands up again and starts towards her with careful steps. Her posture shows that she means no harm, even if she's prepared to retreat if need be. Coming up to the other, she stands at a polite distance and dips her head again in a form of greeting. "Good morning. I'm sorry for interrupting your peace," she offers.
Skelaghe remains standing as Crescendo approaches. She does not move away from the den, even though she does not seem terribly tense as the younger wolf approaches. She keeps her ears perked as Crescendo speaks, then responds, with a smile, "There is no need for an apology. It is a pleasure to meet you. I am Skelaghe, alphaess of the Ute." Her tone is very kind. Friendly.
"The same to you." The smile relaxes Crescendo a little, and her ears flex slightly at the name of the pack. "I'm Crescendo, currently wandering. So much to explore..." She trails off momentarily as her thoughts wander, her attention seemingly caught by something else than her surroundings. But she shakes her head almost immediately, focusing on Skelaghe again. "I've heard of you," she admits, smiling back at the older wolf.
Skelaghe tilts her head slightly as Crescendo mentions having heard of her. That's... Uncommon. "From whom?" The curiosity in Skelaghe's voice is undeniable. Does she find it so hard to believe anyone would speak of her? She has always been humble, so perhaps... But she has also always liked to think that she has left a lasting impact with various creatures.
Her tail slowly brushes against the grass, pushing the reeds aside. "I was born eastward from here, and the elders ever so often mentioned the Ute pack. They spoke of your spirituality. It got me curious." She paws the ground thoughtfully. "Wanderlust got hold of me eventually and I set out initially with the intention of looking for the pack. I happened to meet someone who got me off-track." She looks up again. "I've spent the last few months learning about the spiritual. It has been very rewarding." He tail comes to a rest again.
The elders? Speaking of the Ute? To the east? Skelaghe's tail lowers and wags just slightly, and she asks, "Who were your elders? Oh, it would do her so much good to hear of some of her former packmates. Who is still alive? Skelaghe, herself, is getting older. She won't be having another litter of pups, she knows. She is not so old as to have reason to think that most of the wolves she used to know are dead, but she had certainly assumed she would never hear of them again.
Pausing to think, the names not kept fresh in memory, Crescendo recalls, "Zev... Corin and Aquene... Auryn... My memory doesn't serve me too well with names right now," she apologizes. "They were all kind and understanding, but I couldn't resist leaving and exploring. I had no idea whether I'd actually be able to find the pack they spoke of, but it seems sometimes you're lucky." She smiles again, flexing her ears.
The names bring a reminiscence to her expression. It is all she can do to avoid closing her eyes so she can visualize her old packmates, her old alpha. There is still a moment of silence before she speaks. "I am so pleased that you were successful in finding us. That you are here. Thank you." For what? For simply speaking those names. She could not be happier, knowing that certain members of her old pack have again found peace.
Crescendo nods before reaching down to gnaw at an itch on her leg. Lifting her head again, she looks at the ever-rising sun. "I find it fascinating how much more there is to this world than what we see. The time I spent learning about the spirits and the forces around us has definitely altered my views." The adolescent behaviour has been very subdued up until now, when her tails starts to wag and her eyes light up with excitement. "I want to be a shaman. I'm hoping I can be."
Skelaghe believes, so strongly, in forces beyond what can be seen with the normal eye. Can she communicate with them, directly? She likes to think so. Do they communicate back? Not often. Still... "I will be glad to help you along this journey, Crescendo, and you are welcome to stay with us as long as you like."
The excitement stays at Skelaghe's words and Crescendo tilts her head to the side. "Really? That is most kind of you, I... I wasn't expecting... But thank you," she smiles widely. "Thank you very much. I won't let you down, I promise." She throws a glance at the den opening, now noticing the soft sound of snoozing in there. She raises her head a little more, her ears alert. "Little ones?" she asks.
Skelaghe has become so accustomed to the sound of her children. If she /couldn't/ hear them, should would probably take more notice than she does to the quiet sounds they make while sleeping, or even the less quiet sounds they make while playing. Still, as Crescendo mentions them, she looks back, into the den. "My children." Her number one priority, and her pride and joy. Looking back to the younger wolf, she adds, "They're sleeping now, but I imagine it should not be much longer before you meet them."
At the outlook of meeting the pups, Crescendo looks joyful. "Pups are wonderful. So lively..!" She stretches, shaking her body as a shiver runs through it. The thought of playful puppies is bringing back her own playfulness, after having walked rather lonesome for such a long time. Feeling quite comfortable in Skelaghe's presence, she rolls over on her back and comes to her feet again in a smooth movement, tail wagging slowly.
Skelaghe can't help but chuckle. Just after she arrived in these parts, she probably would have taken this opportunity to play with crescendo quite enthusiastically. She is much older now, though, and she does not play quite as readily as she used to. "They'll run you ragged if you give them the chance." How much luckier could Skelaghe get? The last two newcomers to the pack have been young females who like pups. Certainly, she needs no more convincing that her period of trial is over. Things will continue to get better. She knows it.
Crescendo had woken with a good feeling, and now it seems as though it has been justified. In better ways than she would have hoped for. Of all things that could've happened, this was definitely one of the better. Lying down again, she lifts a paw to scratch her bi-colored face. "The spirits have been kind," she points out. "They have been very accepting. It's a good sign, I think." She smiles up at the older female, feeling very content at this moment.
"Yes, they have." Skelaghe opens her mouth, as though she had intended to say something more. Then there's a soft whimper from inside the den. Ah. So, one of them wakes, already. Skelaghe grins slightly, and says, "Duty calls." Not that she would have it any other way, ever. "I'm going to see to them. Probably won't leave for a while yet. Treat this as you would your home, though." Without waiting for a response, Skelaghe turns to head into the den, to comfort whatever child was woken by a scary dream or by a sibling turning and smacking into him or her.
Lingering for a few moments, listening to the sounds of the pups and taking in the heat of the sun, Crescendo then gets to her feet and makes a silent leave, detouring up the hill for a quick pause to look at the surroundings. So she makes her way down the other side of the hill, comfortable in Skelaghe's invitation.
