Cast:
Kein, adult male cougar
Mythri, adolescent female cougar
Scene:
Kein knows the owner of the foreign scent he found all too well, and it was a battle to keep from going after it, from chasing Revan out where he left Amaranth and not stopping until there wasn't enough left of Revan to be recognizable even to his own family or until Kein was dead. Only one thing kept him in Amaranth. Mythri. It isn't hard to connect the sudden reappearance of Revan and the recent arrival of his daughter, and so Kein turned away from his border to follow Revan's scent into Amaranth. He /warned/ her not to create trouble, and drawing her father here definitely qualifies as creaing trouble. He knew he was going to regret letting her stay here.
An hour has passed. Two. Three. Several hours, and still Mythri is unable to fall asleep again. She's as relaxed as if she was sleeping, but her mind simply cannot let go and allow itself to drift into slumber. There's just too much to think about, too much to analyze, too much to contemplate. Most of it centers and revolves around the boy who was just here not all that long ago. Scarily close. Cael. His actions, his words, his intentions, his motivations... everything is fair game for pondering over. Her amber-rimmed dark eyes are half-closed, her breathing slow and steady, her muscles still and relaxed, but her mind is racing. She understands that a warrior needs plenty of rest in order to recover from injuries, but it's so hard to be /patient/!
Kein's pace as he tracks the quickly-fading trail Revan left is fast. Before he reaches its end, though, more scents catch his nose. Mythri. A very fertile Mythri. And... Cael. Kein bares his teeth and slows as he continues to approach Mythri. He cannot see her yet, and with the fact that her wounds have been cleaned, he doesn't realize she has been injured. Not yet. It won't be much longer, though, and he dreads what he might find, even without knowing that the young female is hurt. Through all of his anger and worry, there is no risk that /he/ might be drawn in by the scent of a fertile female, but to say that scent doesn't affect him at all would be a complete lie. It caused him to be even more tense, more... hostile? than he might be, otherwise.
Indeed, her scent is no doubt close to reaching its peak. Or maybe it already has? It's not something that Mythri is really paying all that much attention to, quantitatively, as she doesn't want to devote any more than just the bare amount of attention to herself. More than once she wondered if Cael's actions and words would have taken place if she hadn't smelled like she does. Or even if she had never encountered her father out here. The boy said that he wanted her. Or /wants/ her, present-tense. Will that desire go away with her refusal? Or will it remain, become stronger? Altogether too many things to think about at one time, but that's something that Mythri has plenty of right now. Time. As long as it's uninterrupted, anyway.
As soon as Kein spots Mythri, he stops walking, and for a moment, as he sees her, his mind is completely blank. At no point does it occur to him that her father would have done this to her, and the other obvious answer /hurts/ to think about. It hurts so much that he can't even force himself to think about it, for a moment. By the time he gets past that block, all thought of escorting Mythri out of his territory most forcefully is gone. If this what his son thought would be an appropriate punishment for Mythri, presumably for the very thing that Kein was coming here to punish Mythri for... Then what else did Cael do? Is Mythri nursing more wounds than just what Kein can see?
Ironically, yes. More wounds that Kein cannot see, yet wounds that aren't even close to what Kein suspects. Nor are they wounds that Kein would ever understand, or any of his family. Except, perhaps, and in no small way a continuation of that irony.. Kaya. The chieftain's eldest daughter, and the one who is in as similar a situation as Mythri, despite being worlds different from her. But Mythri has not met that particular sibling of Cael's, and even if she had, it's doubtful that the once-heir would even be on her mind at this present moment. No.. all she can think about is Cael. Cael.. Cael.. Cael. What /did/ his last remark mean? /What/ is different?
"Where did Cael go, Mythri?" Is that sympathy in Kein's tone? It has to be. What she did, what he /thinks/ she did, was bad, but she did not deserve /this/... And there's no way any female could deserve what else might have happened. If all of his fears are right... Than he is torn between finding his son as quickly as possible and staying here to make sure Mythri has whatever she might need to recover.
Kein? Here? Now? She's rather surprised she didn't notice his approach, but then again.. circumstances being what they are.. "I don't know," she answers quietly, opening her eyes the rest of the way and looking over at the approaching adult. It surely can't be sympathy that she's hearing; no leader would ever use such an emotion when dealing with her. Revan would have been appalled at the very thought. And surely that's why Kein is here, to find out why Revan was here, barely within Amaranth territory, but still close enough to warrant investigation. If Kein goes to track him down.. to hurt her father.. noooo. Mythri swallows hard. "Please.. don't harm him. He did what he felt he had to do." The female mind.. so quickly on to something else. Not that Kein would misunderstand her words or anything... the ambiguous pronoun strikes again!
Don't hurt him?! Why on Earth would Mythri ever defend the cougar who did this to her? Kein can think of one obvious reason: Cael threatened her with what might happen if he got in any trouble over it. It's hard to keep his temper controlled as he remainsideally, where he is long enough to ask, "Will you be okay for a little while?" Kein will try to find Nium or Qale on the way to his son. Ideally, Nium, but if it's Qale who Kein first crosses, then /Qale/ can search out Nium. Under no circumstances would Kein send a male to take care of Mythri, right now.
Suddenly, and quite unexpectedly, Mythri wants to give Kein a confident and encouraging smile. She feels a lot of gratitude to him for his simple question. It's an appeal to her inner strength, to her endurance.. and that's something she understands. "I will be," she answers, not with a smile, but with plenty of determination in her voice. Yes, she has survived thus far, and will continue to do her best to live as strongly as she can. Recovering for now, obviously, but soon to be back on her feet.
Kein nods his head a little bit. "I'm going to send our Shamaness-in-training here, when I find her. She might know of something that will help you feel better." Kein only mentions it so that Mythri won't be worried, or /as/ worried, when Nium arrives. Hopefully just having another female around won't upset her. And that's it, on Kein's part. He cuts a wide circle around Mythri in order to reach the other side of her, after which he intends to track down his son.
A whaaa? Shamaness? What the heck is /that/? And even better, she's not going to get the real thing, but apparently one in training! Whatever /that/ is. It's not entirely an encouraging thought, but if the whateveritis gets here before she's able to move, then Mythri simply won't have much choice or say in the matter. Apparently it's intended to help her feel better, so she can at least be grateful for that. As Kein begins to leave her line-of-sight, Mythri can't help but feel a little bit of anxiety at the very obvious determination, almost grim, in the adult male's stride and demeanor. There's going to be an awful lot of confrontation if he finds who he's seeking, and the adolescent is afraid that Revan will have no choice but to kill him, should Kein ever find him.
