Skelaghe - Female Wolf
Aquene - Female Juvenile
- Hillside Den -
Skelaghe can't be angry with any of her children. Over her life, Skelaghe has failed to become angry with animals, with strangers, who have done much worse than show a lack of compassion. She has no hope at even managing to feign anger with any of her children. She tries, though, admirably. When she wants nothing more than to slink into the den, curl around her offspring, and groom them lovingly, she doesn't. She enters with her head held high, her expression stern. Her eyes adjust quickly as she looks for her wayward daughter.
Aquene sat there on her haunches, smiling up at mother dearest with an oh-so cute face. Not she, no. Aquene would hurt no one. Even if to her mother she was wrong, she felt she was right in the matter and thus had all ready disposed any thoughts of it. She even wagged her tail.
Normally, Skelaghe would leave no distance between herself and her daughter. She would press herself against her daughter, nuzzle, lick, and smile. She doesn't do any of that today, though. She hangs back by the den entrance, and she fights to keep her expression stern. "I am very upset with how you handled yourself out there, Aquene. I had thought we were raising you to show more kindness than that, especially to those who need it most."
Aquene tilted her head. A stern talk from mother? Why was she not bothered by this. She kept her cute, nearly happy appearance even in her response. "Need it most? He blamed you for something you didn't even know...and became rather intense," she said. "I thought he was going to attack you."
"He lost his mate, puppy. He lost his children before they were even born. He is hurting in ways you can't imagine, and he does not need you or anyone adding onto that." After her first few sentences, Skelaghe lies down. She's still at the den entrance, with distance still between Aquene and herself, but at least her head is more level to Aquene's now. "I love that you want to protect me, Aquene. But there are proper and improper ways to go about it, and hurting someone who is already hurt is never worth the benefits you may get from it."
Aquene blinked again. "How do you know he lost his unborn pups?" she said. "Where's the proof that...Sketch? Sketch was even carrying pups?" She sat calmly, staring Skelaghe straight in the eye...kind of like how Helaku might. "Doesn't the pack come before outsiders?"
So far, Skelaghe has had little difficulty in raising her pups. They're getting older, though... And their father may have had a little too much influence in their upbringing, if they have gotten these ideas from him. Of course, Aquene spends more time with him than the others, but... "There are many things wrong with what you've said, puppy. First, regardless of their species, Vincent and Sketch were every bit as much members of our pack as anyone else. They trusted me with everything they had, and I seldom repaid that trust as it should be repaid. Even so, they were always loyal. Second, you should have very solid evidence if you want to accuse Vincent of lying to me, or Sketch of lying to him. And third... Yes, puppy. If I had to, I would destroy everything before seeing you or one of your siblings hurt. But I want you to think, long and hard, on what, if anything, makes your life more valuable than anyone else's."
Aquene blinked, tilting her head a few times. "How do we know that Vincent's words that Sketch was having pups is right? What if that is an assumption?" Again with the head tilting... "And I didn't know Vincent was technically part of our pack. I had never seem him before. Forget about my life being more important...I don't really care about that. Vincent seemed unlogically unstable." Maybe she spent a little too much time with Helaku?
"You cannot assume so much about strangers, Aquene. But even if everything you assumed was right, being cruel to someone who is 'unstable' is no way to resolve a situation." With that, Skelaghe stands again. "I've told you what I want you to do, puppy. Whether you do it is up to you. I only hope that, should you ever wind up hurting in the way Vincent is hurting, you will find someone who is kind instead of someone who is only concerned for herself and her loved ones."
Aquene blinked again. She wondered how Father Dearest would react to Skelaghe's words, and to that she didn't honestly know. He was her example in how to live because it did elevate her in certain ways, even if it made her questionable in others. "Is there anything else?"
"Only that I love you so very much, pup." Skelaghe finally takes a few steps closer to Aquene, after which she attempts to nuzzle the girl. "I want you to have a happy and fulfilled life. I hope you know that." Nothing could ever change that, no matter how dimly Skelaghe may view Aquene's behaviour, at the time.
Aquene accepted the nuzzle, and returned it contently, pressing herself up against Skelaghe. "I do," she said.
Skelaghe licks Aquene lightly, then says, "I have to go now. Vincent does need my help. I promise you I'll be safe though." After nuzzling her daughter once more, Skelaghe turns to leave the den. He was not in good shape when Aquene and Skelaghe entered the den. She doubts he'll have gotten far.
Aquene licked in return and settled into the den. She felt like napping, or otherwise...napping for now that Skel was going out. "I'll be here," she said. "Unless Father comes by and takes me to the pond. He said he wanted to teach me about swimming."
