Camila - Female Coyote
Setting:
Isolated Oasis
--------------------
The two sisters had to have been running for at least an hour, probably more. Through the scorching heat of the desert, to here.. an area that didn't look quite so different from their home lands in the south, but it was certainly more.. what was the word, /liveable/? Immediately, the older female notices the body of water, the element being the true savior of the day for the both of them. Camila's breath is already heavy, but her heart beats faster at the sight of the cool drink ahead, and it's what she heads for immediately. Behind her, the coyotess' tail thrashes excitedly. Had they really found this paradise, or was this simply a cruel trick brought on by her daydreaming mind? Lowering her head to the water, her ears flicking back a bit in order to keep her wits, the cool liquid hit her mouth and slid down to her stomach in a fashion that could only be described as soothing. Nope, it was real all right. Lifting her cranium, water drips from her muzzle, and she makes sure that Sierra is actually get
getting a drink.
For almost the entire exodus, Sierra was able to keep up with her sister. It was only the last few minutes that she started to tire and began to fall behind. As the single tree became closer and closer, more in focus, the exhausted girl sprints as fast as she can to catch up with her sister. With a dire sense of urgency she drinks from the oasis of the desert. It's sheer luck, or perhaps divine intervention that they happened across this spring. Panting heavily, she stops drinking for air. A sombering look of regret and sadness still exists on her face as she lies down on the wet ground, resting her upper body in the shallows. She isn't entirely sure what to say.. She isn't entirely sure what happened.
Looking back, Camila did not see her sister. But, the splashes of the water that she was currently laying in, she did hear. Her paws too delved into the shallow pool, her tongue still lapping away at the water, quenching her thirst until she was all but full for the moment. A sigh of relief escaped the canine, and even in the water, her tail wagged. "It's a good thing we found this.." she said, and nodded her head. "I don't know how much longer we would've made it." This wasn't said to scare Sierra at all, but just a random thought that slipped, is all. Taking a look at her sister's face, Camila's head tilted to one side. "What's the matter? You're not still upset, are ya?" She asked, and let out a heavy sigh. "We're a lot better off than those idiots already. Look! Look at all this water! There's gotta be something to eat nearby."
That isn't quite enough convincing for Sierra. "You sh-sh-shouldn't-t have s-said anything." Only to her sister does she feel completely confident speaking to. It's understandable, though; her speaking has been a punchline for her entire life. "You could-d-d-d have stayed-d-d..." She doesn't sound like she's scolding her sibling. She presses her paws against the fine mud under the inches of water as she continues to pant. The air above the oasis is cool and even if there was food, it's too relaxing for the coyotess to want to get up and hunt it. "Hhh*HE* w-was only m-mad at m-me."
Shaking her head, Camila can't help but roll her eyes. The stutters don't bother the older sibling at all. It's something she's gotten used to over time, and perhaps the only thing that she has patience for. Her love for her sister keeps her otherwise short temper under great control. "He was mad at both of us. And besides, I wouldn't let you leave the Tribe alone, even if it was willingly." Resting in the shallows of the water alongside Sierra, Camila takes another few drinks of the water before resting her head on the very shallow part, the fur under her jaw intermingling with the dirt beneath the water. "Anyway.. we're much better off here. Rest up, and we'll look for food later on."
Mimicing her sister, Sierra rests her head between her paws and lets the water cool her neck and jaw. It's all a jumbled mess in her head now; Basilio's snarled words are the most vivid reverie to her. "I'm ssss-sso glad you c-c-came with m-me, though..." She whispers. Moments pass and Sierra calms herself and even seems to relax. Never in her life had she had to run has hard and as long as that before. Slowly, Sierra rises to her feet and steps deeper into the oasis, just up to her knees, and then sits down with a tired sigh. "C-camila? Wh-where are w-w-w-we going?"
Her sister's gratitude is mostly ignored. It wasn't that Camila didn't appreciate that the smaller female wanted her around, but what was she supposed to do? Let her only sister run off into the wilderness to die? While she had faith in Sierra's survival capabilities, she didn't have /that much/ faith in them. Not by herself. Not when she was so upset. Plus, that lot of rats back home didn't hold much favor anyway. In fact, she was happy to be away from Basilio and his oppressors. Picking on poor Sierra all the time, just because she was different.. it pissed her off. Not only did she feel infinitely bad for her younger sister, but there came times where she felt she shouldn't have to defend Sierra from her own pack. It was ridiculous. Sighing heavily, another grin tugged at Camila's lips as she rested in the water, her sides rising and falling rapidly, as she still hadn't quite caught her breath. "Oh, I dunno. Wherever there's food, I guess. Here is good for a while though, dont'cha think?"
Sierra shrugs, but it gradually turns into an agreeing nod. "It'ssss n-nice here." While the statement is true, it isn't exactly the most fruitful place to live. In all honesty it wasn't to different from living along the River. But that certainly had it's tougher times; the droughts of the dry season were brutal. It was brutal already, and it had a long way to go from being over. With a limp paw, Sierra swirls the water she sits in. This is almost a miracle in and of itself. Her heart rate starting to fall, she begins to think more clearly, whatever that accounts for. "I d-d-did-d-dn't like th-th-them either."
Had there been any lingering scents of .. any prey animals here, Camila would've at least suggested staying here for the night, or perhaps longer. But it'd been a while before they had a good meal, and this area provided little more than meager shelter and a drink. They would have to move eventually, but the elder sister was in no hurry. In fact, she was even hoping for a short nap before they even considered getting up again, much less moving. Closing both her eyes, one of her ears flicked in Sierra's direction, and she opened one of her eyes again. "Well, don't get too comfortable. We're just staying here long enough to get some strength back.. and hopefully we'll find some place nicer by nightfall."
